Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was employed as the polymer matrix for ion conduction as gelled electrolytes with lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) in propylene carbonate (PC) solution. The TPU was prepared by methylene bis(p‐cyclohexyl isocyanate) as the hard segment while employing both poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) as the soft segments. The copolymer comprising both PEG and PTMG was prepared such that it possessed the combined characteristics of good conductivity from the former and good mechanical properties from the latter. All the polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and Fourier transform IR spectroscopy. The conductivity data were obtained from alternating current impedance experiments. The results revealed that the copolymer containing both PEG and PTMG as the soft segments showed better performance than TPU containing either PEG or PTMG. The copolymer TPU(PEG/PTMG) proved to be a good gelled electrolyte from 5 to 85°C. This copolymer, impregnated with 150% LiClO4/PC, possessed good mechanical strength and conductivity as high as 10?3 S/cm. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 80: 935–942, 2001  相似文献

Three different segmented thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) were synthesized with 4,4′‐methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate) as a hard segment and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) or poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) or an equal mixture of PEG and PPG with molecular 2000 as soft segments. The soft‐segment component of TPU was changed to monitor modifications in chemical and physical properties among the three TPUs. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis were used to monitor changes in thermal characteristics. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed to predict the interaction between the lithium cation and the hard or soft segment in the presence of added LiClO4. The deconvolution results of spectral bands associated with the N? H groups of these TPUs were used to obtain such information. Impedance spectroscopy was used to inspect the changes in the bulk conductivity of these TPUs caused by alteration of the soft‐segment component. The conductivity changes were explained through combined DSC and FTIR results. The electrochemical stability of the TPU systems was studied by linear sweep voltammetry. The results showed that the copolymer system had better thermal and electrochemical stability than the other systems. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 82: 1462–1473, 2001  相似文献

Cross‐linked poly(ethylene glycol)/poly[(vinylidene fluoride)‐co‐hexafluoropropylene] (XPEG/PVDF–HFP) gel‐type polymer electrolyte interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) were prepared by cross‐linking the PEG molecules in the presence of PVDF–HFP molecules. Thermal, mechanical, swelling and electrochemical properties, as well as microstructures of the prepared polymer electrolytes, were investigated for various polymer compositions. The mechanical strength increased, but the swelling ratio in electrolyte solution decreased with increasing PVDF–HFP content. The ion conductivity was highly affected by the type of electrolyte salt, and increased with increasing XPEG concentration. The Arrhenius‐type relationship was observed in the temperature dependence of ion conductivity. The polymer electrolyte systems prepared in this study were electrochemically stable up to about 5 V. Current fuel cell technology demands improvements for widespread use, and novel polymer materials may be able to achieve the necessary enhancements. This work inspects the composition, structure, and properties of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)–aromatic polyimide systems aimed at polymer electrolyte membrane applications, as PEG is a known ion conductor and aromatic polyimides are quite stable. Liquid electrolytes were incorporated into the polymers through soaking to achieve ionic conductivity. By varying polyimide and liquid electrolyte, the polymers were analyzed for their structure and conductivity. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, small‐angle X‐ray scattering, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry were used as characterization tools. Electrolyte identity impacts liquid uptake and conductivity. Polyimide identity can influence the size and variability of the doped polymer structure, which ultimately can change conductivity by up to 28%, with the maximum conductivity being 102 mS/cm at 80°C and 70% RH. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Methyl 3‐(3‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)imidazole‐1‐yl)propanoate chloride salt (IL‐Cl), methyl 3‐(3‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)imidazole‐1‐yl)propanoate bromate salt (IL‐Br), and their derivatives modified by polyethylene glycol (PEG) through ester‐exchange reaction (IL‐PEGs) were synthesized. First, the properties of those materials, especially their conductivity, have been extensively studied. Second, using the IL‐PEG with the highest conductivity as a plasticizer and electrolyte, a series of gel polymer electrolytes were successfully fabricated from polyurethane, poly‐1,4‐butylene adipate glycol 2000, and IL‐PEGs by melting blends with different mass ratios in a Haake torque rheometer. The surface morphology, thermal properties, and the surface resistivity of gel polymer electrolytes were studied by scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and surface resistivity test, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy pictures showed that the surface of polymer electrolyte is smoother than that without added IL‐PEGs. Thermogravimetric analysis results revealed that the polymer electrolytes will not decompose when the processing temperature is below 275°C. It was found that the surface resistivity of polymer electrolytes can be below 109 Ω, showing a good antistatic property, and it changes slightly as the relative humidity decreases from 40% to 0.1%, indicting that the material has low humidity sensitivity. This study is a new demonstration and development in ionic liquid based polymer electrolyte. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2014 , 131, 40675.  相似文献

Sodium ion conducting thin film polymer electrolytes based on poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) complexed with NaClO3 were prepared by a solution‐casting method. Characterization by XRD, IR spectroscopy and AC conductivity has been carried out on these thin film electrolytes to analyse their properties. The conductivity studies show that the conductivity value of PEO:NaClO3 complex increases with the increase in salt concentrations. Increase in conductivity was found in the electrolyte system by the addition of low molecular weight polymer poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and the organic solvents dimethylformamide (DMF) and propylene carbonate (PC). Using these electrolyte systems, cell parameters were measured from the discharge study with the application of load 100 kΩ at room temperature with common cell configuration Na|electrolyte|C:I2:electrolyte. The open circuit voltage (OCV) ranges from 2.81 to 3.23 V and the short circuit current (SCC) ranges from 340 to 1180 µA. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

2,4‐Toluene diisocyanate, poly(propylene glycol), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate were used to synthesize PEG–UA (urethane acrylate) monomer. The crosslinked polymer and gel polymer electrolytes were prepared in dioxane by free radical polymerization. The swelling behaviour, thermal degradation properties, morphology and ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolytes were investigated. With decrease in the proportion of dioxane used, the synthesized polymer's network density increased, its affinity with a solution of 1 M LiClO4 in propylene carbonate (PC) decreased, and more microgel which diffused in the network. At the same time, the conductivity increased and reached 4 × 10?4 S cm?1 at 25 °C. Copyright © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The effects of the molecular aggregation structure on the rheological properties of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) were investigated. The TPU was composed of poly{(tetramethylene adipate)-co-(hexamethylene adipate)} glycol as the soft segments, 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and 1,4-butanediol as the hard segments. The TPU sheets prepared by injection molding were annealed at various temperatures from 23 to 120 °C to vary the molecular aggregation structure. Glass transition temperature of the soft segment and melting points of the hard segment domains of the TPUs decreased and increased, respectively, with increasing annealing temperature. The results of DSC, solid-state NMR spectroscopy and dynamic viscoelastic measurements revealed that the degree of micro-phase separation of the TPUs becomes stronger with increasing annealing temperature due to the progress of formation of well-organized hard segment domains. The dynamic temperature sweep experiments for molten TPUs revealed that the temperature at critical gel point, which is defined as the temperature at which the dynamic storage modulus coincides with the loss storage modulus, in the cooling process increased with the progress of aggregation of the hard segments in the TPUs observed in the solid state. The uniaxial elongational viscosity measurements showed that TPUs exhibited an obvious strain hardening behavior with strain rate owing to residual hard segment domains at an operating temperature. It was revealed that the formation of well-organized hard segment domains had a profound effect on the rheological properties of TPUs, in particular on their elongational viscosity.  相似文献

Poly(ether urethanes) obtained by the copolymerization of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and lysine ethyl ester (LysOEt) are elastomeric materials that can be processed readily to form flexible, soft films. In view of these desirable physicomechanical properties, the potential use of these new materials as solid polymer electrolytes was explored. Solid polymer electrolytes were prepared with copolymers containing PEG blocks of different lengths and with different concentrations of lithium triflate (LiCF3SO3). Correlations between the length of the PEG block, the concentration of lithium triflate in the formulation, and the observed Li+ ion conductivity were investigated. Solid electrolyte formulations were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry for glass transition temperatures (Tg), melting points (Tm), and crystallinity. Ionic conductivity measurements were carried out on thin films of the polymer electrolytes that had been cast on a microelectrode assembly using conventional ac-impedance spectroscopy. These polymer electrolytes showed inherently high ionic conductivity at room temperature. The optimum concentration of lithium triflate was about 25–30% (w/w), resulting at room temperature in an ionic conductivity of about 10−5 S cm−1. For poly(PEG2000-LysOEt) containing 30% of LiCF3SO3, the activation energy was ∼ 1.1 eV. Our results indicate that block copolymers of PEG and lysine ethyl ester are promising candidates for the development of polymeric, solvent-free electrolytes. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells can provide alternatively sourced energy, but current PEMs lose performance under certain conditions. The current work examines composition, structure and properties of poly (ethylene glycol)-aromatic polyimide-ionic liquid systems for PEM applications, as poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) is an ion conductor and polyimides are stable. To evaluate polymer interactions, different PEG concentrations (0–50% by weight) and different PEG molecular weights (990–6000 g/mole) were examined. Characterization techniques included Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, small-angle x-ray scattering, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. By increasing the PEG amount, PEG domains and polymer flexibility are increased, which increases conductivity by two to three orders of magnitude. By increasing PEG molecular weight, PEG segmental motion and PEG-polyimide interface quality are decreased, which decreases conductivity by a factor of two. The maximum conductivity was 64 mS/cm at 80 °C and 70 %RH.  相似文献

Polymer electrolyte based lithium ion batteries represent a revolution in the battery community due to their intrinsic enhanced safety, and as a result polymer electrolytes have been proposed as a replacement for conventional liquid electrolytes. Herein, the preparation of a family of crosslinked network polymers as electrolytes via the ‘click‐chemistry’ technique involving thiol‐ene or thiol‐epoxy is reported. These network polymer electrolytes comprise bifunctional poly(ethylene glycol) as the lithium ion solvating polymer, pentaerythritol tetrakis (3‐mercaptopropionate) as the crosslinker and lithium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide as the lithium salt. The crosslinked network polymer electrolytes obtained show low Tg, high ionic conductivity and a good lithium ion transference number (ca 0.56). In addition, the membrane demonstrated sterling mechanical robustness and high thermal stability. The advantages of the network polymer electrolytes in this study are their harmonious characteristics as solid electrolytes and the potential adaptability to improve performance by combining with inorganic fillers, ionic liquids or other materials. In addition, the simple formation of the network structures without high temperatures or light irradiation has enabled the practical large‐area fabrication and in situ fabrication on cathode electrodes. As a preliminary study, the prepared crosslinked network polymer materials were used as solid electrolytes in the elaboration of all‐solid‐state lithium metal battery prototypes with moderate charge–discharge profiles at different current densities leaving a good platform for further improvement. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A mixture of flammable organic solvent, alkali metal salt, and nonflammable room temperature ionic liquid has been used as a new type of electrolyte. A novel microporous polymer electrolyte based on poly(vinylidene fluoride), i.e., PVDF, and poly(ethylene glycol), i.e., PEG, was prepared by a simple phase‐inversion technique. The mixed electrolyte was observed to be nonflammable at ionic liquid contents of 60 vol % or greater. The viscosity (range, 0.98–30.5 mPa s) and conductivity (range, 9.9 to 22.25 mS cm?1) of the mixed electrolyte were discussed. The porosity, solution uptake, and conductivity mechanism of polymer membranes also were discussed. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Degradable thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) elastomers incorporating poly(D ,L ‐lactide‐co‐glycolide) (PLGA) were synthesized and characterized. The soft segments consisted of a mixture of poly(butylene adipate) (PBA) and PLGA with PBA/PLGA ratios of 100/0, 75/25, and 50/50 wt %. Two PLGA polyesters were used. BD‐PLGA was initiated from butanediol; whereas BHMBA‐PLGA was initiated from 2,2‐bis‐(hydroxymethyl)butanoic acid. The hard segments consisted of dicyclohexylmethane‐4,4′‐diisocyanate (H12MDI) and 1,4‐butanediol (BD). The hard segment content, expressed as the weight ratio of BD to polyol used in the TPU formulation, was set either at 8 or 12% (31.2 or 38.1% hard segment by weight, respectively). In all cases initial [NCO]/[OH] ratio was 1.03. The tensile modulus of the TPUs ranged from 9 to 131 MPa and ultimate strains ranged from 100 to 750%. DMA was used to probe the thermomechanical transitions of the TPUs and indicated useful application temperatures from well below zero up to 60–80°C depending on the formulation. Hydrolytic degradation of the TPUs was tested in seawater at 37°C. All of the PLGA‐containing TPUs showed enhanced degradation compared to those with only PBA as the soft segment. The latter compositions remained essentially unchanged throughout the test while the PLGA‐containing TPUs lost as much as 45% of their initial mass in 153 days. Molecular weights of TPUs containing degradable polyols were lower than those derived from 100% PBA polyol. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

Lithium ion conducting membranes are the key materials for lithium batteries. The lithium ion conducting gel polymer electrolyte membrane (Li-GPEM) based on porous poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) matrix and cross-linked PEG network is prepared by a typical phase inversion process. By immersing the porous PVDF-HFP membrane in liquid electrolyte containing poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) and an initiator to absorb the liquid electrolyte at 25°C, and then thermally cross-linking at 60°C, the Li-GPEM is fabricated successfully. The measurements on its weight loss, mechanical and electrochemical properties reveal that the obtained Li-GPEM has better overall performance than the liquid and blend gel systems used as conductive media in lithium batteries. The ionic conductivity of the fabricated Li-GPEM can reach as high as 2.25 × 10-3 S/cm at 25°C.  相似文献

Polymer electrolytes are attractive for the applications in conventional electrochemical devices and emerging flexible devices. In this study, we developed a poly(urethane acrylate)‐based gel polymer electrolyte with excellent mechanical stability, optical transparency, and a high ionic conductivity. These polymer electrolytes showed excellent dimensional stability and an elastomer‐like behavior with a Shore A hardness in the range of 20–40. The optical transmittance values of these polymers films were over 80% in the visible range. Their ionic conductivities were controlled via changes in the concentration of the linker, dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA), and the lithium salt incorporated into the polymer. The maximum ionic conductivity reached 3.7 mS/cm at room temperature (~23 °C) when the DMPA/poly(ethylene glycol) molar ratio was 0.25, and the ionic conductivity was found to be proportional to the salt concentration. We believe that these polymer electrolytes will be useful in various electrochemical applications where flexibility, high ionic conductivity, and transparency in the electrolytes are necessary. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Lithium ion conducting solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) films consisted of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix with lithium perchlorate as a dopant ionic salt, poly(ethylene glycol) as plasticizer and montmorillonite clay as inorganic nanofiller have been prepared by classical solution casting and high intensity ultrasonic assisted solution casting methods. The X‐ray diffraction study confirmed the amorphous structure of all these PMMA‐based solid electrolytes and the clay nanosheets existed in exfoliated form in their amorphous phase. Dielectric relaxation spectroscopy had been employed for the investigation of complex dielectric function, ac electrical conductivity, electric modulus, and impedance spectra of these electrolytes over the frequency range from 20 Hz to 1 MHz. It was observed that the dielectric properties and ionic conductivity of the electrolytes strongly depended on the sample preparation methods, and also had changes with addition of the clay nanofiller. Temperature‐dependent dielectric study of the electrolyte films confirmed that their dc ionic conductivity and conductivity relaxation time values obeyed the Arrhenius behavior. This study also revealed that the lithium ion transportation in the ion–dipolar complexes of these electrolytes occurred through hopping mechanism and it was correlated with the conductivity relaxation time. Preparation of these electrolyte films through ultrasonic assisted solution casting method increased the ionic conductivity by more than one order of magnitude in comparison to that of the classical solution casting method, which revealed that the former was a novel method for the preparation of these SPEs of relatively enhanced ionic conductivity. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Multifunctional structural batteries and supercapacitors have the potential to improve performance and efficiency in advanced lightweight systems. A critical requirement is a structural electrolyte with superior multifunctional performance. We present here structural electrolytes prepared by the integration of liquid electrolytes with structural epoxy networks. Two distinct approaches were investigated: direct blending of an epoxy resin with a poly(ethylene‐glycol) (PEG)‐ or propylene carbonate (PC)‐based liquid electrolyte followed by in‐situ cure of the resin; and formation of a porous neat epoxy sample followed by backfill with a PC‐based electrolyte. The results show that in situ cure of the electrolytes within the epoxy network does not lead to good multifunctional performance due to a combination of plasticization of the structural network and limited percolation of the liquid network. In contrast, addition of a liquid electrolyte to a porous monolith results in both good stiffness and high ionic conductivity that approach multifunctional goals. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. A series of polyurethanes (PUs) with different polyether soft segments [polydioxolane (PDXL), polyethylene glycol (PEG), or PDXL/PEG] were synthesized successfully, and solid polymer electrolytes based on PU/LiClO4 complexes were prepared. The relations between structure and the ionic conductive properties of the PU‐based electrolytes were investigated by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis, and complex impedance analysis. Results showed that the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of PDXL–PU was lower than that of PEG–PU. Doped lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) salt could be dissolved well in soft segments of PDXL–PU. The ionic conductivity of the PDXL–PU/LiClO4 complex could reach a value of 2 × 10?5 S/cm at room temperature without the addition of an organic plasticizer. The system with PDXL/PEG as a soft segment had a higher Tg and a lower ionic conductivity than the one with PDXL as a soft segment. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The miscibility of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (TPUs) with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) was studied. PVC blends with TPUs, prepared from 4,4-diphenylmethane diisocyanate as diisocyanate, hydroxy-terminated poly(butylene adipate) (PBA) as the soft segment, and dimethylolpropionic acid as the chain extender carrying a latent anionic site for neutralization by triethylamine, showed a single glass transition temperature (Tg), irrespective of neutralization of latent anionic sites of TPU. But in neutralized TPU/PVC blends, limited intimate segmental mixing was perceived from the mechanical properties observed. When hydroxy-terminated poly(propylene glycol) was used as the soft segment instead of hydroxy-terminated PBA, PVC/TPU blends showed two separate Tg's of PVC and TPU, irrespective of neutralization. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (TPUs) are now widely used because of their excellent properties that include high tensile and tear strength, and good abrasion, impact and chemical resistance. TPUs are multiblock copolymers with alternating sequences of hard segments composed of diisocyanates and simple diols (chain extenders) and soft segments formed by polymer diols. Commonly used hard segments for TPUs are derived from 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and aliphatic diols. The aim of our research was to examine the possibility of obtaining TPUs with good tensile properties and thermal stability by using an unconventional aliphatic‐aromatic chain extender, containing sulfide linkages. Three series of novel TPUs were synthesized by melt polymerization from poly(oxytetramethylene) diol, poly(ε‐caprolactone) diol or poly(hexane‐1,6‐diyl carbonate) diol of number‐average molecular weight of 2000 g mol?1 as soft segments, MDI and 3,3′‐[methylenebis(1,4‐phenylenemethylenethio)]dipropan‐1‐ol as a chain extender. The structure and basic properties of the polymers were examined using Fourier transfer infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, Shore hardness and tensile tests. It is possible to synthesize TPUs from the aliphatic‐aromatic chain extender with good tensile properties (strength up to 42.6 MPa and elongation at break up to 750%) and thermal stability. Because the structure of the newly obtained TPUs incorporates sulfur atoms, the TPUs can exhibit improved antibacterial activity and adhesive properties.
