The α-Fe2O3 nanorods were successfully synthesized without any templates by calcining the α-FeOOH precursor in air at 300 °C for 2 h and their LPG sensing characteristics were investigated. The α-FeOOH precursor was prepared through a simple and low cost wet chemical route at low temperature (40 °C) using FeSO4·7H2O and CH3COONa as starting materials. The formation of α-FeOOH precursor and its topotactic transformation to α-Fe2O3 upon calcination was confirmed by X-ray diffraction measurement (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. The α-Fe2O3 nanorods exhibited outstanding gas sensing characteristics such as, higher gas response (∼1746-50 ppm LPG at 300 °C), extremely rapid response (∼3-4 s), relatively slow recovery (∼8-9 min), excellent repeatability, good selectivity and lower operating temperature (∼300 °C). Furthermore, the α-Fe2O3 nanorods are able to detect up to 5 ppm for LPG with reasonable response (∼15) at the operating temperature of 300 °C and they can be reliably used to monitor the concentration of LPG over the range (5-60 ppm). The experimental results clearly demonstrate the potential of using the α-Fe2O3 nanorods as sensing material in the fabrication of LPG sensors. Plausible LP G sensing mechanism of the α-Fe2O3 nanorods is also discussed.  相似文献

Unloaded ZnO and Nb/ZnO nanoparticles containing 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mol.% Nb were produced in a single step by flame-spray pyrolysis (FSP) technique. The nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The BET surface area (SSABET) of the nanoparticles was measured by nitrogen adsorption. FSP yielded small Nb particles attached to the surface of the supporting ZnO nanoparticles, indicating a high SSABET. The morphology and accurate size of the primary particles were further investigated by TEM. Nb/ZnO nanoparticles paste composed of ethyl cellulose and terpineol as binder and solvent respectively was coated on Al2O3 substrate interdigitated with gold electrodes to form thick films by spin coating technique. After the sensing tests, the morphology and the cross-section of sensing film were analyzed by SEM and EDS analyses. The influence on a low dynamic range of Nb concentration on NO2 response (0.1-4 ppm) of thick film sensor elements was studied at the operating temperatures ranging from 250 to 350 °C in the presence of dry air. The optimum Nb concentration was found be 0.5 mol.% and 0.5 mol.% Nb exhibited an optimum NO2 response of ∼1640 and a short response time (27 s) for NO2 concentration of 4 ppm at 300 °C.  相似文献

One-dimensional (1D) ZnO nanorods with pencil-like shape and high aspect ratio were successfully synthesized using a cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-assisted hydrothermal process at 90 °C. The surface morphology and structure of nanocrystals were characterized by FE-SEM, XRD and XPS analysis. Experimental results show that the surfactant and base concentration play important roles in the formation and growth orientation of ZnO nanorods. The ZnO nanorods synthesized exhibits high response and selectivity to NO2, the highest response to 40 ppm NO2 reached 206 and the selectivity with respect to CO and CH4 at same concentration reached 10.3 and 30 times, respectively. The effects of synthesis method, surfactant and calcination condition on sensing properties were systematically investigated. The results indicate that the CTAB-assisted low temperature hydrothermal process is a potentially facile method for synthesis of 1D ZnO nanorods and excellent potential candidates as gas sensing materials.  相似文献

Nanostrucutred spinel ZnCo2O4 (∼26-30 nm) was synthesized by calcining the mixed precursor (consisting of cobalt hydroxyl carbonate and zinc hydroxyl carbonate) in air at 600 °C for 5 h. The mixed precursor was prepared through a low cost and simple co-precipitation/digestion method. The transformation of the mixed precursor into nanostructured spinel ZnCo2O4 upon calcinations was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). To demonstrate the potential applicability of ZnCo2O4 spinel in the fabrication of gas sensors, its LPG sensing characteristics were systematically investigated. The ZnCo2O4 spinel exhibited outstanding gas sensing characteristics such as, higher gas response (∼72-50 ppm LPG gas at 350 °C), response time (∼85-90 s), recovery time (∼75-80 s), excellent repeatability, good selectivity and relatively lower operating temperature (∼350 °C). The experimental results demonstrated that the nanostructured spinel ZnCo2O4 is a very promising material for the fabrication of LPG sensors with good sensing characteristics. Plausible LPG sensing mechanism is also discussed.  相似文献

Gas sensors were designed and fabricated using oxide nanofibers as the sensing materials on micro platforms using micromachining technology. Pure and Pt doped SnO2 nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning and their H2S gas sensing characteristics were subsequently investigated. The sensing temperatures of 300 and 500 °C could be attained at the heater powers of 36 and 94 mW, respectively, and the sensors showed high and fast responses to H2S. The responses of 0.08 wt% Pt doped SnO2 nanofibers to 4-20 ppm H2S, were 25.9-40.6 times higher than those of pure SnO2 nanofibers. The gas sensing characteristics were discussed in relation to the catalytic promotion effect of Pt, nano-scale morphology of electrospun nanofibers, and sensor platform using micro heater.  相似文献

Synthesis and gas sensing properties of bundle-like α-Fe2O3 nanorods   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Bundle-like α-Fe2O3 nanostructures were successfully synthesized by a simple calcination of β-FeOOH precursor derived from a hydrothermal method in the presence of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone). The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray power diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The results indicated that bundle-like nanostructures were composed of well-aligned single crystalline nanorods with the diameters of 20-30 nm and the lengths of 200-300 nm. The gas sensing properties of as-prepared products were investigated. It was found that the sensor based on α-Fe2O3 nanostructure exhibited high response, quick response-recovery, and good repeatability to acetone at 250 °C.  相似文献

Crystalline α-MoO3/TiO2 core/shell nanorods are fabricated by a hydrothermal method and subsequent annealing processes under H2/Ar flow and in the ambient atmosphere. The shell layer is composed of crystalline TiO2 particles with a diameter of 2-6 nm, and its thickness can be easily controlled in the range of 15-45 nm. The core/shell nanorods show enhanced sensing properties to ethanol vapor compared to bare α-MoO3 nanorods. The sensing mechanism is different from that of other one-dimensional metal oxide core/shell nanostructures due to very weak response of TiO2 nanoparticles to ethanol. The enhanced sensing properties can be explained by the change of type II heterojunction barrier formed at the interface between α-MoO3 and TiO2 in the different gas atmosphere. The present results demonstrate a novel sensing mechanism available for gas sensors with high performance.  相似文献

Crystalline CeO2/TiO2 core/shell nanorods were fabricated by a hydrothermal method and a subsequent annealing process under the hydrogen and air atmosphere. The thickness of the outer shell composed of crystal TiO2 nanoparticles can be tuned in the range of 5-11 nm. The crystal core/shell nanorods exhibited enhanced gas-sensing properties to ethanol vapor in terms of sensor response and selectivity. The calculated sensor response based on the change of the heterojunction barrier formed at the interface between CeO2 and TiO2 is agreed with the experimental results, and thus the change of the heterojunction barrier at different gas atmosphere can be used to explain the enhanced ethanol sensing properties.  相似文献

A facile spray pyrolysis route is used to deposit aluminium doped ZnO (AZO) thin films on to the glass substrates. It is observed that on aluminium doping the particle size of ZnO reduces significantly; moreover, uniformity of particle also gets enhanced. Their XRD study reveals that intensity ratio of crystal planes depend on the aluminium doping concentration. The gas response studies of; ∼800 nm thick Al-doped ZnO films at different operating temperatures show that 5 at% Al-doped ZnO thin film exhibits highest response towards H2S gas at 200 °C. The results suggest that the gas response strongly depends on the particle size and aluminium doping in the ZnO.  相似文献

Hierarchical SnO2 microspheres were synthesized by a hydrothermal method at 140 °C using stannic chloride hydrate and sodium hydroxide as starting materials. The individual hierarchical SnO2 microsphere ranged from 700 to 900 nm in diameter. After these microspheres were heated at 600 °C for 2 h, the spheres were cross-linked into clusters by short SnO2 nanorods as revealed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Most importantly, SnO2 hierarchical microsphere sensor exhibits excellent selectivity and fast response to ethanol. Response and recovery times were 0.6 s and 11 s when the sensor was exposed to 50 ppm ethanol at an operating temperature of 300 °C. Thus, hierarchical structures play a significant role in the field of gas sensing.  相似文献

Toxic and combustible gas detection plays a major role in environmental air quality monitoring. Real-time monitoring of hazardous gases and signal of accidental leakages is of great importance owing to the concern for safety requirements in industries and household applications. A simple and economical method for the fabrication of highly sensitive zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods based gas sensors for detecting low concentrations of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) was studied in this work. Platinum (Pt) nanoparticles were deposited on the sensing medium which acts as catalysts to improve the sensor performance. The change in electrical resistance of the metal oxide semiconductor for varying concentrations of LPG was measured. Maximum response of 59% was achieved for 9000 ppm LPG at 250 °C. Further to improve the sensing performance of the sensor towards LPG, surface modification of ZnO nanorods using zinc stannate (Zn2SnO4) microcubes was performed. High response of 63% was observed for 3000 ppm LPG at 250 °C. Significant improvement in response of the sensor with Zn2SnO4 microcubes on ZnO nanorods was observed when compared to sensor with ZnO nanorods.  相似文献

In order to further understand the different contributions to NOx sensing mechanism as well as the importance of electrode geometry, solid state potentiometric sensors with varying La2CuO4 sensing electrode thicknesses were studied. These sensors (with a Pt counter electrode) showed a dependence of NO2 sensitivity which decreased with increasing thickness in the temperature range of 550-650 °C. They also showed NO sensitivity that was independent of thickness at 400 °C and 600 °C, but varied at temperatures between. This behavior was attributed to multiple mechanistic contributions explained by Differential Electrode Equilibria.  相似文献

In2O3 hollow spheres with shell thicknesses of ∼150 nm and ∼300 nm were prepared by the one-pot synthesis of indium-precursor-coated carbon spheres via hydrothermal reaction and subsequent removal of core carbon by heat treatment. The gas response (Ra/Rg, Ra: resistance in air, Rg: resistance in gas) of the thin hollow spheres to 100 ppm C2H5OH was 137.2 at 400 °C, which was 1.86 and 3.84 times higher than that of the thick hollow spheres and of the nanopowders prepared by precipitation, respectively. The gas sensing characteristics are discussed in relation to the shell configuration of the hollow spheres. The enhanced gas response of the hollow spheres was attributed to the effective diffusion of analyte gas toward the entire sensor surface via very thin and nano-porous shells.  相似文献

The article presents the results of research studies on ceramics SnO2 sensors with Pt catalysts. The role of catalysis in gas sensing mechanisms was investigated. In order to obtain samples with different catalytic activity but with identical Pt loading, the Pt/SnO2 catalysts were calcined at different temperatures (400-800 °C). Structural analysis of these samples was performed. Among the sensors manufactured with Pt/SnO2, the highest sensitivity was shown for the sensor obtained with Pt/SnO2 sample sintered at 800 °C. The correlation between catalytic activity and sensor sensitivity is given.  相似文献

Pure and Cu-doped ZnO nanofibers were synthesized via electrospinning technology. The morphology and structure of the as-synthesized nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The effects of Cu doping on H2S sensing properties at low concentration (1-10 ppm) were investigated at 230 °C. The results show that the H2S sensing properties of ZnO nanofibers are effectively improved by Cu doping: 6 at% Cu-doped ZnO nanofibers show a maximum sensitivity to H2S gas, and the response to 10 ppm H2S is one order of magnitude higher than the one of pure ZnO nanofibers.  相似文献

The intent of this work is to look at the effects of varying the La2CuO4 electrode area and the asymmetry between the sensing and counter electrode in a solid state potentiometric sensor with respect to NOx sensitivity. NO2 sensitivity was observed at 500-600 °C with a maximum sensitivity of ∼22 mV/decade [NO2] observed at 500 °C for the sensor with a La2CuO4 electrode area of ∼30 mm2. The relationship between NO2 sensitivity and area is nearly parabolic at 500 °C, decreases linearly with increasing electrode area at 600 °C, and was a mixture of parabolic and linear behavior 550 °C. NO sensitivity varied non-linearly with electrode area with a minima (maximum sensitivity) of ∼−22 mV/decade [NO] at 450 °C for the sensor with a La2CuO4 electrode area of 16 mm2. The behavior at 400 °C was similar to that of 450 °C, but with smaller sensitivities due to a saturation effect. At 500 °C, NO sensitivity decreases linearly with area.We also used electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to investigate the electrochemical processes that are affected when the sensing electrode area is changed. Changes in impedance with exposure to NOx were attributed to either changes in La2CuO4 conductivity due to gas adsorption (high frequency impedance) or electrocatalysis occurring at the electrode/electrolyte interface (total electrode impedance). NO2 caused a decrease in high frequency impedance while NO caused an increase. In contrast, NO2 and NO both caused a decrease in the total electrode impedance. The effect of area on both the potentiometric and impedance responses show relationships that can be explained through the mechanistic contributions included in differential electrode equilibria.  相似文献

We report the synthesis of flowerlike ZnO nanostructure using a facile hydrothermal process, and the investigation on the ammonia (NH3)-sensing properties of the pure and palladium (Pd)-sensitized flowerlike ZnO nanostructure. The phase purity, morphology, and structure of the pure and Pd-sensitized ZnO nanostructure are investigated. The characterized results reveal that the flowerlike ZnO has a wurtzite structure and is composed of numerous aggregated single-crystalline ZnO nanorods with a diameter of about 60 nm. Having fabricated gas sensors based on the pure and Pd-sensitized flowerlike ZnO, we find that the Pd-sensitized sensor exhibits a response of 45.7-50 ppm NH3 at 210 °C, which is about 8 times higher than that of pure ZnO at the optimal operating temperature of 350 °C. The enhanced NH3-sensing performance demonstrates that the significant decrease in optimal operating temperature and the distinct increase in response are attributed to the sensitization effect of Pd.  相似文献

The influences of La2O3 loading on the ethanol sensing properties of SnO2 nanorods were investigated. An obvious enhancement of response was obtained. The response of 5 wt% La2O3 loaded SnO2 nanorods was up to 213 for 100 ppm ethanol at low working temperature of 200 °C, while that of pure SnO2 nanorods is 45.1. The improvement in response might be attributed to the presence of basic sites, which facilitated the dehydrogenation process. While the working temperature was increased to 300 °C, the sensor response decreased to 16 for 100 ppm ethanol. Additionally, the La2O3 loaded SnO2 nanorods sensors showed good selectivity to ethanol over methane and hydrogen. Our results demonstrated that the La2O3 loaded SnO2 nanorods were promising in fabricating high performance ethanol sensors which could work at low temperature.  相似文献

The room temperature response characteristics of SnO2 thin film sensor loaded with platinum catalyst clusters are investigated for LPG under the exposure of ultraviolet radiation. The SnO2-Pt cluster sensor structures have been prepared using rf sputtering. Combined effect of UV radiation exposure (λ = 365 nm) and presence of Pt catalyst clusters (10 nm thick) on SnO2 thin film sensor surface is seen to lead to an enhanced response (4.4 × 103) for the detection of LPG (200 ppm) at room temperature whereas in the absence of UV illumination a comparable response (∼5 × 103) could be obtained but only at an elevated temperature of 220 °C. The present study therefore investigates the effect of UV illumination on LPG sensing characteristics of SnO2 sensors loaded with Pt clusters of varying thickness values. Results indicate the possibility of utilizing the sensor structure with novel dispersal of Pt catalyst clusters on SnO2 film surface for efficient detection of LPG at room temperature under the illumination of UV radiations.  相似文献

Au/SnO2 core-shell structure nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized using two methods, microwave and conventional precipitation. In both cases, the size of the Au core was 12-18 nm and the thickness of the SnO2 shell was 8-12 nm. The particle size of SnO2 synthesized using the microwave and precipitation method was 3-5 nm and 1-2 nm, respectively. Upon heating to 400-600 °C, both particles maintained their core-shell morphology but the smaller SnO2 particles prepared using the precipitation method were more sintered. The resistance changes in films of these particles were measured as a function of CO concentration. The Au/SnO2 particles prepared using the microwave method showed higher sensor response than those prepared using the precipitation method, even providing a significant signal at testing temperatures approaching ambient conditions, thereby affording a new class of material for gas sensing. Both sets of core-shell particles showed higher sensor response than the SnO2 nanoparticles. The role of the Au core as a catalyst in improving the adsorption and oxidation of CO gas is important for improving the low temperature response. In addition, the maintenance of the size of SnO2 in the microwave method during sintering contributed to the higher response towards CO sensing.  相似文献
