The output characteristics of nonlinear optical fiber-loop mirror are analyzed in detail when the pump pulses with the same wavelength are input in the both directions for recovering the clock component of the signal spectrum.It is found that the double output pulses are produced in the transmission port of the nonlinear optical fiber-loop mirror.The output pulse peaks are located in time domain at the rising and falling edges of the pump pulses.It is demonstrated that the rising and falling edges of the pump pulse can be directly extracted by this method.Through numerical simulation,the effects of therelative delay of pump pulses and the dispersion of fiber on the characteristics of output pulses are studied.By spectrum analysis,it is found that the spectrum of output pulse sequence includes the clock components of the pump pulse sequence,and a new idea is provided for all-optical clock extraction.  相似文献

Through the incorporation of optical filters in a cascade of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA's), with each amplifier exhibiting nonuniform gain, we determine the optimal conditions for passively equalizing many wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) channels while maintaining a high SNR. For 20 WDM channels spaced 0.5 nm apart, it is found that 3-dB, 2-nm-wide notch filters with center wavelength at 1.560 μm will provide sufficient SNR equalization for potential megameter transmission when located after every 20 EDFA's. This performance is achieved with no a priori knowledge of the input or output signals  相似文献

We propose a novel compact design for a single-stage S-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier, wherein distributed suppression of C-band amplified spontaneous emission is provided by optimized bend loss in a coaxial core fiber. Simulations show that /spl sim/25-dB unsaturated gain over 30-nm bandwidth (1495-1525) nm is achievable with the designed module, using a nominal pump power of 500 mW. The noise figure of the amplifier varies between 4.5 and 8 dB from 1495 to 1525 nm. By proper designing, we have also ensured that the gain ripple over the entire 30-nm bandwidth is 相似文献

The accuracy of erbium-doped fiber amplifier gain characterization tests has been evaluated using reduced sets of wavelength-division-multiplexing laser sources. Wavelength grids with both uniform and nonuniform wavelength spacing have been evaluated. Experiments show that it is necessary to maintain equal spectral density of source power per region in order to operate at the same saturation/inversion conditions of the amplifier. In this paper, we propose a fiber amplifier gain equalizer using a coherent optical transversal filter. The gain equalizer is tunable and has a bandwidth in the order of 30 nm. We also study the effects of different parameters such as input signal power pattern and the input pump power on the gain profile of the amplifier. The results show that, when the input signal power pattern changes, the amplifier does not maintain its gain profile. The gain profile has to be maintained in order to make the gain equalization effective. We show that, the pump input power can be adjusted so that the changes in the gain profile are compensated for. The gain profile varies quite slowly, hence compensation is feasible. As an example, we discuss the design of a gain equalizer for a system consisting of seven wavelength channels  相似文献

The advent of EDFA-based dense WDM places demanding optical source requirements for EDFA characterization. An iterative method is proposed here, based on a homogeneous amplifier model, to calculate the required signal conditions for WDM testing with a reduced set of saturating channels and a broad-band noise probe. EDFA gain measurements demonstrating this reduced-source technique agree to within 0.2 dB to those obtained with a four-channel WDM system operating near 1.55 /spl mu/m.  相似文献

Er-doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) gain transients are dynamic performance-degrading effects that need to be effectively suppressed in next-generation reconfigurable optical networks. In this paper, we experimentally assess the feasibility of an electronic dynamic gain control based on low-cost optoelectronic components, showing that a linearized electrical circuit and a control bandwidth smaller than 1 MHz can achieve the same performance as the commonly proposed all-optical feedback solutions.  相似文献

Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) were irradiated with /sup 60/Co /spl gamma/-rays up to a total dose of 3 kGy. Gain measurements and 1310-nm absorption were achieved during the irradiation to characterize the radiation-induced damage on the fiber. A model based on classical equations was developed to perform accurate predictions of the effects of radiation on EDFAs. This model was shown to be consistent with the experiment at various dose rates and temperatures, therefore allowing the extrapolation to a space environment simulation.  相似文献
