This study investigates the performance of joint code-division multiple access/packet-reservation multiple access (CDMA/PRMA) with the consideration of imperfect power control in TDD-CDMA cellular systems, and compares with that of CDMA/PRMA with an assumption of perfect power control. Both voice and World Wide Web (WWW) Internet browsing traffic were considered. We have studied their performances in terms of packet loss probability, power outage probability and average access delay. The results show that the assumption of CDMA/PRMA with perfect power control is too optimistic and independent of cell radius. It might be valid when the cell radius is <500 m. In addition, the performance of CDMA/PRMA with imperfect power control is highly limited by the cell radius due to its constraint on transmission power levels. Therefore, careful study is required if CDMA/PRMA is used in TDD systems.  相似文献

A joint code division multiple access and noncollision packet reservation multiple access (CDMA/NC-PRMA) technique is proposed and investigated as an uplink protocol for the third-generation (3G) mobile systems. Being the underlying time division multiple access (TDMA) architecture of the CDMA transmissions, NC-PRMA enables the base station (BS) to have a centralized control over the slot allocation policy. In order to reduce the multiple access interference (MAI) variation in a CDMA transmission, two different slot assignment schemes, referred to as load-balancing (LB) and power-grouping (PG) schemes, are proposed and evaluated. Simulation results show that considerable improvement can be achieved over the joint CDMA/PRMA scheme, in which the MAI variation is reduced by way of a dynamic permission probability for contending terminals. Especially when an imperfect power control mechanism is considered, the proposed PG assignment scheme achieves significant performance advantages  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a multihop medium access control (mMAC) scheme for time division duplexing-code division multiple access (TDD-CDMA) cellular networks with two-hop relay architecture to support packet data transmission. The proposed mMAC is based on joint CDMA/PRMA (packet reservation multiple access) protocol and it includes BCH code selection, power control and multihop relaying. Simulation results reveal that cellular networks with two-hop relay architecture with the proposed mMAC scheme can substantially provide a good performance as well as larger cell coverage as compared to conventional TDD-CDMA single-hop cellular networks.  相似文献

Multidimensional packet reservation multiple access is proposed as a medium-access control (MAC) strategy for the uplink channel of the UTRA (UMTS terrestrial radio access) time-division/code-division multiple-access (TD/CDMA) mode to benefit from efficient statistical multiplexing on the large common pool of available resources (i.e., slots defined both in time and code domain). A prioritized Bayesian broadcast algorithm is derived to stabilize multidimensional packet reservation multiple access (MD PRMA) and to allow for access delay discrimination of four different access classes. Access delay spread can be selected, and trading voice-dropping ratio against data-access delay is possible. To control multiple-access interference, Bayesian broadcast can be combined with load-based access control. The performance of both frequency-division duplex (FDD) and time-division duplex (TDD) mode is evaluated, the latter particularly relevant for TD/CDMA. The paper deals with the evaluation of performances of packet reservation multiple access (PRMA) and code division multiple access (CDMA) in a mixed cellular environment, composed by a regular grid of macrocells plus microcells deployed in the most congested areas. The investigation aims at evaluating the impact of the different interference mechanisms on traffic performance and bases on the comparison between two technical solutions proposed in literature. The approach is quite innovative since the analysis is carried out considering realistic spatial traffic statistics, which are characterized, even with a nominally uniform user distribution, by fluctuations resulting in uneven traffic loads on different cells. One key requirement for radio access in advanced, third generation (3G) mobile communication systems is the ability to accommodate a variety of services via a flexible and efficient medium access control (MAC) protocol. The paper presents and evaluates a new multiple access protocol termed CRDA (collision resolution and dynamic allocation), which has the potential to meet the above requirement. CRDA is basically a slotted packet-reservation multiple access technique with dedicated reservation slots, which allows the main shortcoming of previous PRMA schemes, i.e., contention, to be overcome through the integration in the MAC protocol of a code-division multiple-access (CDMA) transmission mode used to access the reservation slots. This prevents collisions during the reservation phase and enhances channel throughput, notably in the case of mixed voice/data traffic. Our simulations of the CRDA MAC integrate voice channels with data sources, generating what we call advanced data traffic, which has a very similar shape to the actual traffic generated by World Wide Web (WWW) applications. The standard assumption of Poissonian data traffic is also considered. Our conclusion is that the CRDA MAC protocol satisfactorily accommodates both types of traffic  相似文献

Packet reservation multiple access (PRMA) improves capacity in microcellular systems compared with time division multiple access (TDMA) or frequency division multiple access (FDMA). In PRMA, when a mobile terminal has information packets to transmit, it contends with other terminals for access to a common radio channel. Therefore the main performance degradation is due to the collision of terminals simultaneously transmitting packets. In this paper we propose a non-collision PRMA (NC-PRMA) protocol with signatures to achieve a better performance than PRMA does. Two classes of duplexing schemes, frequency division duplexing (FDD) and shared time division duplexing (STDD), are explored and two speech activity models, slow and fast, in both FDD and STDD schemes are studied. From the results of a computer simulation it is observed that, with the constraint of a packet-dropping rate no greater than 0·01, NC-PRMA can support 38 (43) and 45 (49) users respectively under the FDD and STDD schemes if the slow (fast) speech activity detector is adopted. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper presents a terminal‐assisted frame‐based packet reservation multiple access (TAF‐PRMA) protocol, which optimizes random access control between heterogeneous traffic aiming at more efficient voice/data integrated services in dynamic reservation TDMA‐based broadband access networks. In order to achieve a differentiated quality‐of‐service (QoS) guarantee for individual service plus maximal system resource utilization, TAF‐PRMA independently controls the random access parameters such as the lengths of the access regions dedicated to respective service traffic and the corresponding permission probabilities, on a frame‐by‐frame basis. In addition, we have adopted a terminal‐assisted random access mechanism where the voice terminal readjusts a global permission probability from the central controller in order to handle the ‘fair access’ issue resulting from distributed queuing problems inherent in the access network. Our extensive simulation results indicate that TAF‐PRMA achieves significant improvements in terms of voice capacity, delay, and fairness over most of the existing medium access control (MAC) schemes for integrated services.  相似文献

Several multiple access control (MAC) protocols of industrial interest can be modeled by discrete-state discrete-time Markov chains, with finite lower block Hessenberg probability transition matrices PN, where the diagonal blocks have a size which decreases while passing from the top left block (A0,0) down to the right bottom block (AN,N). Such matrices have been identified in the literature as funnel matrices. In general, for meaningful systems of engineering interest, the size of PN is so large that the computation of the PN stationary probabilities (π) with common numerical methods cannot be performed due to the computational cost involved. To calculate the stationary probabilities of PN we have developed an innovative computational method which fully exploits the block Hessenberg structure of the matrix I-PN . In this way, we drastically reduce the overall computational cost with respect to the customarily used LU factorization, while still keeping the strong numerical stability of Gaussian elimination with diagonal adjustment. The potential of the new method is exploited to assess the performance of an access protocol for third-generation mobile systems, called PRMA++ (packet reservation multiple access protocol). This was designed within the European project RACE and has so far been studied, to the best of our knowledge, via simulative analysis. Simulation work is reported indicating that packet reservation multiple access (PRMA) allows a variety of information sources to share the same wireless access channel. Some of the sources, such as speech terminals, are classified as periodic and others, such as signaling, are classified as random. Packets from all sources contend for access to channel time slots. When a periodic information terminal succeeds in gaining access, it reserves subsequent time slots for uncontested transmission. Future third-generation mobile communication systems will need multi-access control (MAC) protocols suitable for multimedia code division multiple access (CDMA) radio communications. Distributed queueing random access protocol (DQRAP)/CDMA is a general purpose MAC protocol oriented to the CDMA environment. Analytical model expressions and computer simulations have shown its capacity to achieve near-optimum performance under heterogeneous traffic scenarios in a unicellular environment. A cellular environment has been designed to verify that DQPAP/CDMA maintains its near-optimum performance in a packet switched mobile communication system. A hybrid access protocol known, as contention time-division multiple access (C-TDMA), is presented and analyzed in a radio cellular multiuser system scenario. C-TDMA shows some features of contention-based (slotted-ALOHA) and reservation-based (packet reservation multiple access, PRMA) protocols. It has been recommended for use in the uplink of future European multimedia distribution systems. A simple Markov model is proposed to describe C-TDMA behavior. A complete statistical analysis of the model has been made in order to evaluate the performance of the protocol. However, due to the long computation time required in the presence of a large number of users, a simpler approach known as equilibrium point analysis (EPA) is used. Moreover, on the basis of the EPA analysis and the C-TDMA design parameters, a fast algorithm has been developed to improve the achievable throughput of C-TDMA. Results in terms of throughput and delay under variable traffic conditions indicate that C-TDMA is able to grant optimum throughput/delay figures for typical multiuser systems. Moreover, for a digital speech scenario, a performance comparison with PRMA demonstrates that C-TDMA yields equivalent performance to PRMA in terms of number of users supported by the system with a limited packet dropping rate  相似文献
