The static, vibration, and buckling analysis of axisymmetric circular plates using the finite element method is discussed. For the static analysis, the stiffness matrix of a typical annular plate element is derived from the given displacement function and the appropriate constitutive relations. By assuming that the static displacement function, which is an exact solution of the circular plate equation ?2?2W = 0, closely represents the vibration and buckling modes, the mass and stability coefficient matrices for an annular element are also constructed. In addition to the annular element, the stiffness, mass, and stability coefficient matrices for a closure element are also included for the analysis of complete circular plates (no center hole). As an extension of the analysis, the exact displacement function for the symmetrical bending of circular plates having polar orthotropy is also given.  相似文献

The asymmetric vibration and stability of circular and annular plates using the finite element method is discussed. The plate bending model consists of one-dimensional circular and annular ring segments using a Fourier series approach to model the problem asymmetries. Using displacement functions which are the exact solutions of the static plate bending equation, the stiffness coefficients corresponding to the 1st and nth harmonics are used in closed form. By assuming that the static displacement function closely represents the vibration and stability modes, the mass and stability coefficient matrices for an annular and circular element are also constructed for the 1st and nth harmonics. Several numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the finite element model with that of classical methods.  相似文献

A stability analysis based on the Finite Strip Method is presented for skew orthotropic plates subjected to in-plane loadings. The straight sides of the plate are simply supported and the other two skewed sides are supported with any combination of fixed, free and simply supported boundaries. The plate is divided into strips, in contradistinction to elements in the Finite Element Method, and the displacement function is so chosen that it satisfies the boundary conditions and also the inter-strip compatibility conditions of an elemental strip. The energy expressions required to formulate the stiffness and stability coefficient matrices are formulated using smalldeflection theory. The buckling load intensity factor is evaluated for different aspect ratios of isotropic and orthotropic skew plates and the results of certain rectangular isotropic cases are compared with earlier investigations.  相似文献

This investigation deals with the axisymmetric static and dynamic buckling of a cylindricaliy orthotropic truncated shallow conical cap with clamped edge. The cases of conical caps with a free central circular hole and with a hole plugged by a rigid central mass have been considered. The governing equations are formulated in terms of normal displacement w and stress function Ψ. The orthogonal point collection method is used for spatial discretisation and the Newmark-β scheme is used for time-marching. Analysis has been carried out for a uniformly distributed conservative load normal to the undeformed surface and a central axial ring load at the hole. Dynamic load is taken as a step function load. The influence of orthotropic parameter β and annular ratio on the buckling loads has been investigated. New results for static and dynamic buckling loads have been presented for the isotropic and orthotropic truncated conical caps. Dynamic buckling loads obtained from static analysis have been found to agree well with the dynamic buckling loads based on transient response.  相似文献

Nonlinear axisymmetric static and dynamic buckling of clamped isotropic and cylindrically orthotropic elastic cap with central circular hole have been investigated. The governing equations are expressed in terms of normal displacement ω and stress function ψ. The orthogonal point collocation method has been used in the space domain and Newmark-β scheme in the time domain. The cases of shallow cap with free hole and with a hole plugged by rigid central mass are considered. Analysis has been carried out for uniformly distributed load and a ring load at the hole. Dynamic load is taken as a step function load. Detailed new results for static and dynamic buckling loads have been presented for the isotropic and orthotropic cases.  相似文献

An improved numerical method to exactly evaluate 14 × 14 dynamic and static element stiffness matrices is proposed for the spatial free vibration and stability analysis of nonsymmetric thin-walled straight beams subjected to eccentrically axial loads. Firstly equations of motion and force-deformation relations are rigorously derived from the total potential energy for a uniform beam element with nonsymmetric thin-walled cross-section. Next a system of linear algebraic equations with nonsymmetric matrices is constructed by introducing 14 displacement parameters and transforming the higher order simultaneous differential equation into the first order simultaneous equation. And then explicit expressions for displacement parameters are exactly evaluated by solving a generalized eigenproblem with complex eigenvalues. Finally exact element stiffness matrices are determined using force-deformation relations. Particularly straightforward application of the present method may not give the exact static stiffness because of existence of multiple zero eigenvalues in case of static buckling problems. Accordingly, a modified numerical method to resolve this difficulty is developed for two cases depending on the initial state of stress resultants. In order to demonstrate the validity and the accuracy of this method, the natural frequencies and buckling loads of nonsymmetric thin-walled beam-columns having bending-torsional deformation modes are evaluated and compared with analytical and F.E. solutions or results analyzed by ABAQUS’s shell element.  相似文献

This paper deals with the large-amplitude axisymmetric free vibrations of cylindrically orthotropic thin circular plates of varying thicknesses with edge elastically restrained against rotation and in-plane displacement. Geometric nonlinearity due to moderately large deflections is included. Linear, parabolic and cubic variations of thickness are considered. Harmonic vibrations are assumed and time is eliminated from the von Kármán-type governing equations by the Kantorovich averaging method. The orthogonal point collocation method is used for spatial discretisation. Results are presented for the linear frequency of first axisymmetric mode and for the amplitude-period response. The effect of taper ratio, orthotropic parameter and rotational and in-plane stiffness of the support on the nonlinear vibration behaviour is investigated.  相似文献

The dynamic axisymmetric behaviour of clamped orthotropic shallow spherical shell subjected to instantaneously applied uniform step-pressure load of infinite duration, is investigated here. The available modal equations, based on an assumed two-term mode shape for the lateral displacement, for the free flexural vibrations of an orthotropic shallow spherical shell is extended now for the forced oscillations. The resulting modal equations, two in number, are numerically integrated using Runge-Kutta method, and hence the load-deflection curves are plotted. The pressure corresponding to a sudden jump in the maximum deflection (at the apex) is considered as the dynamic buckling pressure, and these values are found for various values of geometric parameters and one value of orthotropic parameter. The numerical results are also determined for the isotropic case and they agree very well with the previous available results. It is observed here that the dynamic buckling load increases with the increase in the orthotropic parameter value. The effect of damping on the dynamic buckling load is also studied and this effect is found to increase the dynamic buckling load. It is further observed that this effect is more pronounced with increase in the rise of the shell.  相似文献

The dynamic response of horizontally curved bridge decks simply supported along the radial edges under the action of the moving vehicle is investigated. The bridge deck is idealised as a number of finite strips with orthotropic elastic properties. The stiffness and mass matrix of an individual element were derived using a homogeneous differential equation of an orthotropic plate in polar co-ordinates. The vehicle is idealized as a sprung mass moving at a constant speed in a circular path parallel to the central line of the bridge. The unsprung mass of the vehicle is assumed to be always in contact with the bridge surface during its motion. Viscous damping is taken into account for both bridge and vehicle. Dynamic deflections and moments are presented for the mid-point of the bridge deck and the values have been compared with the available analytical solution.  相似文献

In this paper the problem of the optimal design of thin-walled tubular columns under loadings controlled by displacement is investigated. A radius of cross-sectional circular profile varying along the axis of the shell-column as well as a wall thickness, which lead to the maximal axial displacement caused by compression before the structure buckles are sought. Both global (buckling of a column) and local (wall buckling of a shell) stability of a structure are taken into account. The geometry of the structure is approximated by the convex Bézier polynomial. The results are obtained using numerical optimization method, namely the simulated annealing method.  相似文献

Over the last few decades, storage tanks have become bigger and thinner. Because of this, the buckling capacity of these cylindrical shells may well be the determining factor of shell thickness. In this paper, the critical buckling load of isotropic and orthotropic cylinders subjected to different types of wind load distributions is investigated. The prebuckling displacements are obtained by using the membrane theory of shell analysis. The principle of minimum potential energy in conjunction with Ritz's approach is used to obtain the stability matrix. The size of the stability matrix in this analysis is (81 × 81). By solving the stability matrix as an eigenvalue problem, the critical pressures are obtained as eigenvalues and the deflection shapes as eigenvectors. In the present study cylindrical shells of various dimensions, which are fixed at the base and free at the top, are investigated. The buckling load curves for isotropic and orthotropic cylinders of various dimensions are given for practical use.  相似文献

This study deals with the geometrically nonlinear axisymmetric static and transient analysis of cylindrically orthotropic elastic thin tapered circular plates subjected to uniformly distributed and discrete central loads. Differential equations in terms of transverse displacement w and stress function ψ have been employed. The displacement w and stress function ψ are expanded in finite power series. The orthogonal point collocation method in space domain and Newmark-β scheme in time domain have been used. Step function dynamic loads are considered. Static and dynamic results have been presented for isotropic and orthotropic immovable clamped and simply supported plates with linearly varying thickness for three values of taper ratios and the effect of varying thickness has been investigated. A simple approximate method is used to predict the maximum dynamic response to step load from the results for static loads and is found to yield sufficiently accurate results.  相似文献

The results of a detailed study of the buckling and postbuckling responses of composite panels with central circular cutouts are presented. The panels are subjected to combined edge shear and temperature change. The panels are discretized by using a two-field degenerate solid element with each of the displacement components having a linear variation throughout the thickness of the panel. The fundamental unknowns consist of the average mechanical strains through the thickness and the displacement components. The effects of geometric nonlinearities and laminated anisotropic material behavior are included. The stability boundary, postbuckling response and hierarchical sensitivity coefficients are evaluated. The hierarchical sensitivity coefficients measure the sensitivity of the buckling and postbuckling responses to variations in the panel stiffnesses, and the material properties of both the individual layers and the constituents (fibers and matrix). Numerical results are presented for composite panels with central circular cutouts subjected to combined edge shear and temperature change, showing the effects of variations in the hole diameter, laminate stacking sequence and fiber orientation, on the stability boundary and postbuckling response and their sensitivity to changes in the various panel parameters.  相似文献

The post-buckling behaviour of cylindrically orthotropic circular plates is investigated through a finite element formulation, with the plates resting on an elastic foundation and their edges are elastically restrained against rotation. Results are presented in the form of linear buckling load parameters and empirical formulae for radial load ratios for various values of spring stiffness, foundation stiffness and orthotropy parameter.  相似文献

An energy principle is employed to derive the equations governing the stability of a simply-supported, eccentrically ring-stiffened, oval, orthotropic cylindrical shell. The kinematic relations used are those of Love-type shell theory and the effect of reinforcing rings is accounted for by a distributed stiffness approach. The cylinder is subjected to a combination of uniform axial and lateral pressures.

It is determined that the domain of stability of such a stiffened cylinder is bounded by two distinct solutions, herein denoted as corresponding to ‘long’ and ‘short’ axial wavelengths, with the extent of the short wavelength solution being dependent upon the degree of stiffening afforded by the rings.

The analysis of the effects of ring eccentricity shows that ovals are affected in a similar manner to circular cylinders in that outside rings provide the greatest capacity for sustaining axial compression, while inside rings are capable of supporting the greatest lateral pressure.

Finally, it is found that the buckling load of an oval cylinder under uniform lateral pressure slightly exceeds the corresponding value for an equivalent circular cylinder. As a further verification of this phenomenon, a Rayleigh-Ritz procedure is employed to determine the buckling load of an oval ring under uniform radial load. The results of this analysis corroborate those obtained for the cylinder.  相似文献

A mixed finite-difference scheme is presented for the free vibration analysis of simply supported laminated orthotropic circular cylinders. The study is based on the linear three-dimensional theory of orthotropic elasticity, and the governing equations are reduced to six first-order ordinary differential equations in the thickness coordinate. In the finite-difference discretization two interlacing grids are used for the different fundamental unknowns in such a way as to reduce both the local discretization error and the bandwidth of the resulting finite-difference field equations. Numerical studies are presented of the effects of variations in the lamination and geometric characteristics of circular cylinders on their vibration characteristics. Also, the accuracy and range of validity of two-dimensional Sanders—Budiansky type shell theories are investigated.  相似文献

This paper presents the theoretical developments of an exact finite strip for the buckling and initial post-buckling analyses of channel section struts. The presented method provides an efficient and extremely accurate buckling solution. The Von-Karman’s equilibrium equation is solved exactly to obtain the buckling loads and mode shapes for the channel section struts. The investigation of buckling behavior is then extended to an initial post-buckling study with the assumption that the deflected form immediately after the buckling is the same as that obtained for the buckling. Through the solution of the Von-Karman’s compatibility equation, the in-plane displacement functions which are themselves related to the Airy stress function are developed in terms of the unknown coefficient in the assumed out-of-plane deflection function. All the displacement functions are then substituted in the total strain energy expressions. The theorem of minimum total potential energy is subsequently applied to solve for the unknown coefficient. The developed method is subsequently applied to analyze the initial post-buckling behavior of some representative channel sections for which the results were also obtained through the application of a semi-energy finite strip method. Through the comparison of the results and the appropriate discussion, the knowledge of the level of capability of the developed method is significantly promoted.  相似文献

A unified analysis method based on two-dimensional elasticity theory is outlined for evaluation of bending, buckling and vibration of multilayer orthotropic sandwich beams and panels. The effects of initial geometric imperfections are included. It is shown that beams or panels deforming under conditions of plain stress or plane strain may be treated as special instances of folded-plate structures using computer programs which are now widely available. Examples are given, including evaluation of stress contours in a sandwich panel under patch load and analysis of overall and local (face-wrinkling) buckling modes in sandwich panels with stiff and soft cores.  相似文献
