This paper presents exergy analysis of a hybrid solid oxide fuel cell and gas turbine (SOFC/GT) system in comparison with retrofitted system with steam injection. It is proposed to use hot gas turbine exhaust gases heat in a heat recovery steam generator to produce steam and inject it into gas turbine. Based on a steady-state model of the processes, exergy flow rates are calculated for all components and a detailed exergy analysis is performed. The components with the highest proportion of irreversibility in the hybrid systems are identified and compared. It is shown that steam injection decreases the wasted exergy from the system exhaust and boosts the exergetic efficiency by 12.11%. Also, 17.87% and 12.31% increase in exergy output and the thermal efficiency, respectively, is demonstrated. A parametric study is also performed for different values of compression pressure ratio, current density and pinch point temperature difference.  相似文献

The aim of the paper is to investigate possible improvements in the geometry design of a monolithic solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) through analysis of the entropy generation terms. The different contributions to the local rate of entropy generation are calculated using a computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model of the fuel cell, accounting for energy transfer, fluid dynamics, current transfer, chemical reactions and electrochemistry. The fuel cell geometry is then modified to reduce the main sources of irreversibility and increase its efficiency.  相似文献

In this study, energy and exergy analyses of a 1 kW Horizon H-1000 XP Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cell has been investigated. A testing apparatus has been established to analyze the system efficiencies based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics. In this mechanism pure hydrogen has been directly used as a fuel in compressed gas formation. Purity of hydrogen was above 99.99%. The system performance was investigated through experimental studies on energy and parametric studies on exergy by changing the operating pressure and operation temperature. The results showed that the energy efficiency of PEM fuel cell is 45.58% for experimental study and 41.27% for parametric study at full load. Also, 2.25% and 4.2% performance improvements were obtained by changing the operating temperature ratio (T/T0) from 1 to 1.2 and operating pressure ratio (P/P0) from 1 to 2, respectively.  相似文献

This study is basically composed of two sections. In the first section, a CFD analysis is used to provide a better insight to molten carbonate fuel cell operation and performance characteristics at very high current densities. Therefore, a mathematical model is developed by employing mass and momentum conservation, electrochemical reaction mechanisms and electric charges. The model results are then compared with the available data for an MCFC unit, and a good agreement is observed. In addition, the model is applied to predict the unit cell behaviour at various operating pressures, temperatures, and cathode gas stoichiometric ratios. In the second section, a thermodynamic model is utilized to examine energy efficiency, exergy efficiency and entropy generation of the MCFC. At low current densities, no considerable difference in output voltage and power is observed; however, for greater values of current densities, the difference is not negligible. If the molten carbonate fuel cell is to operate at current densities smaller than 2500 A m−2, there is no point to pressurize the system. If the fuel cell operates at pressures greater than atmospheric pressure, the unit cell cost could be minimized. In addition, various partial pressure ratios at the cathode side demonstrated nearly the same effect on the performance of the fuel cell. With a 60 K change in operating temperature, almost 10% improvement in energy and exergy efficiencies is obtained. Both efficiencies initially increase at lower current densities and then reach their maximum values and ultimately decrease with the increase of current density. By elevating the pressure, both energy and exergy efficiencies of the cell enhance. In addition, higher operating pressure and temperature decrease the unit cell entropy generation.  相似文献

A novel solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)/gas turbine (GT) hybrid cycle system with CO2 capture is proposed based on a typical topping cycle SOFC/GT hybrid system. The H2 gas is separated from the outlet mixture gas of SOFC1 anode by employing the advanced ceramic proton membrane technology, and then, it is injected into SOFC2 to continue a new electrochemical reaction. The outlet gas of SOFC1 cathode and the exhaust gas from SOFC2 burn in the afterburner 1. The combustion gas production of the afterburner1 expands in the turbine 1. The outlet gas of SOFC1 anode employs the oxy‐fuel combustion mode in the afterburner 2 after H2 gas is separated. Then, the combustion gas production expands in the turbine 2. To ensure that the flue gas temperature does not exceed the maximum allowed turbine inlet temperature, steam is injected into the afterburner 2. The outlet gas of the afterburner 2 contains all the CO2 gas of the system. When the steam is removed by condensation, the CO2 gas can be captured. The steam generated by the waste heat boiler is used to drive a refrigerator and make CO2 gas liquefied at a lower temperature. The performance of the novel quasi‐zero CO2 emission SOFC/GT hybrid cycle system is analyzed with a case study. The effects of key parameters, such as CO2 liquefaction temperature, hydrogen separation rate, and the unit oxygen production energy consumption on the new system performance, are investigated. Compared with the other quasi‐zero CO2 emission power systems, the new system has the highest efficiency of around 64.13%. The model of the hybrid solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and gas turbine (GT) cycle is used to evaluate the impacts of the inlet fuel composition on the specific work and efficiency of the cycle. In order to perform the analysis, the system fueled with methane is considered as the reference case. For alternative cases, methane is partially replaced with hydrogen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen with an increment of 5% at each step. The results indicate that the trend of the variations and the magnitude of the changes depend on the replacing gases. The specific work and efficiency of the SOFC, GT, and cycle as a whole for the cycle with and without anode recirculation can increased, decreased, or remain unaffected when methane is replaced with these species. All these trends are justified by investigating the system's operational parameters. This study confirms the importance of the fuel composition impacts on the SOFC–GT cycle performance.  相似文献

In this study, both energetic and exergetic performances of a combined heat and power (CHP) system for vehicular applications are evaluated. This system proposes ammonia-fed solid oxide fuel cells based on proton conducting electrolyte (SOFC-H+) with a heat recovery option. Fuel consumption of combined fuel cell and energy storage system is investigated for several cases. The performance of the portable SOFC system is studied in a wide range of the cell’s average current densities and fuel utilization ratios. Considering a heat recovery option, the system exergy efficiency is calculated to be 60-90% as a function of current density, whereas energy efficiency varies between 60 and 40%, respectively. The largest exergy destructions take place in the SOFC stack, micro-turbine, and first heat exchanger. The entropy generation rate in the CHP system shows a 25% decrease for every 100 °C increase in average operating temperature.  相似文献

For a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and micro gas turbine (MGT) hybrid system, optimal control of load changes requires optimal dynamic scheduling of set points for the system's controllers. Thus, this paper proposes an improved iterative particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to optimize the operating parameters under various loads. This method combines the iteration method and the PSO algorithm together, which can execute the discrete PSO iteratively until the control profile would converge to an optimal one. In MATLAB environment, the simulation results show that the SOFC/MGT hybrid model with the optimized parameters can effectively track the output power with high efficiency. Hence, the improved iterative PSO algorithm can be helpful for system analysis, optimization design, and real‐time control of the SOFC/MGT hybrid system. An integrated process of biomass gasification and solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) is investigated using energy and exergy analyses. The performance of the system is assessed by calculating several parameters such as electrical efficiency, combined heat and power efficiency, power to heat ratio, exergy destruction ratio, and exergy efficiency. A performance comparison of power systems for different gasification agents is given by thermodynamic analysis. Exergy analysis is applied to investigate exergy destruction in components in the power systems. When using oxygen-enriched air as gasification agent, the gasifier reactor causes the greatest exergy destruction. About 29% of the chemical energy of the biomass is converted into net electric power, while about 17% of it is used to for producing hot water for district heating purposes. The total exergy efficiency of combined heat and power is 29%. For the case in which steam as the gasification agent, the highest exergy destruction lies in the air preheater due to the great temperature difference between the hot and cold side. The net electrical efficiency is about 40%. The exergy combined heat and power efficiency is above 36%, which is higher than that when air or oxygen-enriched air as gasification agent.  相似文献

A theoretical solid oxide fuel cell–gas turbine hybrid system has been designed using a Capstone 60 kW micro-gas turbine. Through simulation it is demonstrated that the hybrid system can be controlled to achieve transient capability greater than the Capstone 60 kW recuperated gas turbine alone. The Capstone 60 kW gas turbine transient capability is limited because in order to maintain combustor, turbine and heat exchangers temperatures within operating requirements, the Capstone combustor fuel-to-air ratio must be maintained. Potentially fast fuel flow rate changes, must be limited to the slower, inertia limited, turbo machinery air response. This limits a 60 kW recuperated gas turbine to transient response rates of approximately 1 kW s−1. However, in the SOFC/GT hybrid system, the combustor temperature can be controlled, by manipulating the fuel cell current, to regulate the amount of fuel sent to the combustor. By using such control pairing, the fuel flow rate does not have to be constrained by the air flow in SOFC/GT hybrid systems. This makes it possible to use the rotational inertia of the gas turbine, to buffer the fuel cell power response, during fuel cell fuel flow transients that otherwise limit fuel cell system transient capability. Such synergistic integration improves the transient response capability of the integrated SOFC gas turbine hybrid system. Through simulation it has been demonstrated that SOFC/GT hybrid system can be developed to have excellent transient capability.  相似文献

In the present study a two‐dimensional model of a tubular solid oxide fuel cell operating in a stack is presented. The model analyzes electrochemistry, momentum, heat and mass transfers inside the cell. Internal steam reforming of the reformed natural gas is considered for hydrogen production and Gibbs energy minimization method is used to calculate the fuel equilibrium species concentrations. The conservation equations for energy, mass, momentum and voltage are solved simultaneously using appropriate numerical techniques. The heat radiation between the preheater and cathode surface is incorporated into the model and local heat transfer coefficients are determined throughout the anode and cathode channels. The developed model has been compared with the experimental and numerical data available in literature. The model is used to study the effect of various operating parameters such as excess air, operating pressure and air inlet temperature and the results are discussed in detail. The results show that a more uniform temperature distribution can be achieved along the cell at higher air‐flow rates and operating pressures and the cell output voltage is enhanced. This paper presents an exergetic analysis of a combined heat and power (CHP) system, integrating a near-atmospheric solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) with an allothermal biomass fluidised bed steam gasification process. The gasification heat requirement is supplied to the fluidised bed from the SOFC stack through high-temperature sodium heat pipes. The CHP system was modelled in AspenPlus™ software including sub-models for the gasification, SOFC, gas cleaning and heat pipes. For an average current density of 3000 A m−2 the proposed system would consume 90 kg h−1 biomass producing 170 kWe net power with a system exergetic efficiency of 36%, out of which 34% are electrical.  相似文献

For a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) integrated into a micro gas turbine (MGT) hybrid power system, SOFC operating temperature and turbine inlet temperature are the key parameters, which affect the performance of the hybrid system. Thus, a least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) identification model based on an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to describe the nonlinear temperature dynamic properties of the SOFC/MGT hybrid system in this paper. During the process of modeling, an improved PSO algorithm is employed to optimize the parameters of the LS-SVM. In order to obtain the training and prediction data to identify the modified LS-SVM model, a SOFC/MGT physical model is established via Simulink toolbox of MATLAB6.5. Compared to the conventional BP neural network and the standard LS-SVM, the simulation results show that the modified LS-SVM model can efficiently reflect the temperature response of the SOFC/MGT hybrid system.  相似文献

Rice straw is a potential energy source for power generation. Here, a biomass-based combined heat and power plant integrating a downdraft gasifier, a solid oxide fuel cell, a micro gas turbine and an organic Rankine cycle is investigated. Energy, exergy, and economic analyses and multi-objective optimization of the proposed system are performed. A parametric analysis is carried out to understand the effects on system performance and cost of varying key parameters: current density, fuel utilization factor, operating pressure, pinch point temperature, recuperator effectiveness and compressors isentropic efficiency. The results show that current density plays the most important role in achieving a tradeoff between system exergy efficiency and cost rate. Also, it is observed that the highest exergy destruction occurs in the gasifier, so improving the performance of this component can considerably reduce the system irreversibility. At the optimum point, the system generates 329 kW of electricity and 56 kW of heating with an exergy efficiency of 35.1% and a cost rate of 10.2 $/h. The capability of this system for using Iran rice straw produced in one year is evaluated as a case study, and it is shown that the proposed system can generate 6660 GWh electrical energy and 1140 GWh thermal energy.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to analyze methane-fed internal reforming solid oxide fuel cell–gas turbine (IRSOFC—GT) power generation system based on the first and second law of thermodynamics. Exergy analysis is used to indicate the thermodynamic losses in each unit and to assess the work potentials of the streams of matter and of heat interactions. The system consists of a prereformer, a SOFC stack, a combustor, a turbine, a fuel compressor and air compressor, recuperators and a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). A parametric study is also performed to evaluate the effect of various parameters such as fuel flow rate, air flow rate, temperature and pressure on system performance.  相似文献

Power generation using gas turbine (GT) power plants operating on the Brayton cycle suffers from low efficiencies, resulting in poor fuel to power conversion. A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is proposed for integration into a 10 MW gas turbine power plant, operating at 30% efficiency, in order to improve system efficiencies and economics. The SOFC system is indirectly coupled to the gas turbine power plant, paying careful attention to minimize the disruption to the GT operation. A thermo-economic model is developed for the hybrid power plant, and predicts an optimized power output of 20.6 MW at 49.9% efficiency. The model also predicts a break-even per-unit energy cost of USD 4.65 ¢ kWh−1 for the hybrid system based on futuristic mass generation SOFC costs. This shows that SOFCs may be indirectly integrated into existing GT power systems to improve their thermodynamic and economic performance.  相似文献

This study deals with the thermodynamic analysis of molten carbonate fuel cell combined with a gas turbine, based on the first- and second-law of thermodynamics. The mass, energy, entropy and exergy balance equations are written and applied to the system and its components. Some parametric studies are performed to investigate the change of system performance through energy and exergy efficiencies with the change of operating conditions. The irreversibilities occuring in different devices of the integrated system are also investigated through the exergy destruction analysis in these devices. The maximum output work of the MCFC is estimated to be 314.3 kW for an operating temperature of 650 °C. The overall energy and exergy efficiencies achieved for this system are 42.89% and 37.75%, respectively.  相似文献

Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) are of great interest nowadays. The feature of SOFCs makes them suitable for hybrid systems because they work high operating temperature and when combined with conventional turbine power plants offer high cycle efficiencies. In this work a hybrid solid oxide fuel cell and gas turbine power system model is developed. Two models have been developed based on simple thermodynamic expressions. The simple models are used in the preliminary part of the study and a more realistic based on the performance maps. A comparative study of the simulated configurations, based on an energy analysis is used to perform a parametric study of the overall hybrid system efficiency. Some important observations are made by means of a sensitivity study of the whole cycle for the selected configuration. The results of the selected model were compared to an earlier model from an available literature.  相似文献

In this paper, the model of hybrid solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and gas turbine (GT) cycle is applied to investigate the effects of the inlet fuel type and composition on the performance of the hybrid SOFC–GT cycle. The sensitivity analyses of the impacts of the concentration of the different components, namely, methane, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen, in the inlet fuel on the performance of the hybrid SOFC–GT cycle are performed. The simulation results are presented with respect to a reference case, when the system is fueled by pure methane. Then, the performance of the hybrid SOFC–GT system when methane is partially replaced by each component within a corresponding range of concentration with an increment of 5% at each step is investigated. The results point out that the output powers of the SOFC, GT, and cycle as a whole decrease sharply when methane is replaced with other species in majority of the cases.  相似文献
