Engineers can play a special role in society. Working in industry, the corporation's sphere of influence can act as a lever for a contributing professional individual. Hence, the engineer is able to exert a greater force on the world than most other people. With technology carrying us away at a rapid (and some think devastating) rate, the need for socially responsible professional people is becoming more crucial. Many believe that members of minority groups can make an effective contribution to the modern social engineering concerns that confront us. There are several programs currently underway by colleges, government, and industries to increase the flow of minorities into the engineering profession. This article discusses two programs whose purpose is to promote an interest for engineering and science in youngsters. First, the Science Consultant Program-sponsored by Xerox Corporation. The SCP is a volunteer program that gives elementary school students a first-hand look at science by bringing scientists, technicians, and engineers to the inner-city classrooms. Second, the Junior Engineering Technical Society which works through school sponsored clubs and projects to provide engineering oriented career guidance to high school students. 相似文献

据2004年全国学生体质健康调研结果表明,我国中小学学生的近视率同2000年相比均有不同程度的上升,大城市的学生近视患病率显著提高。本文对重庆市部分中小学校教室进行光环境现状的调查,并根据国家现行的相关标准,对教室的光环境现状进行分析。结果表明,重庆市学校教室采光和黑板照明问题十分严重,人工照明也不理想,与国家新标准有一定差距。针对这一现状,本文针对部分问题提出了建议和解决对策。 相似文献

Access to the Internet is transforming classrooms in many ways. Students from anywhere can directly access people and information resources from anywhere else. Innovative educational materials can quickly become available throughout the world, not just throughout a school. Students can find up-to-date information and personal mentors without leaving their desks. Teachers can develop and participate in professional peer groups nationally, even internationally. We are exploring a local neighborhood view of educational networks. We describe three facets of this endeavor. First, we directly and pervasively involve community groups, for example, public school teachers and senior citizens, in defining and developing technology to address their needs and to facilitate their goals, Second, we seek to leverage and develop neighborhood resources by facilitating collaboration throughout the community via computer mediated communication (email, chat, shared whiteboards and notebooks, video conferencing). Third, we view the entire community as the learning community, and view local schools as a forever-unfinished community project (D. Schuler, 1996). 近年来我国学生视力不良检出率居高不下,并且呈现明显上升趋势,已经到了极为严重的程度.学校教室的采光照明问题是保护学生视力健康的重要部分.2004年我国重新修订了国家标准〈建筑照明设计标准〉GB50034-2004.本文对北京市部分大中小学校进行采光照明的调查分析,结果显示,北京市学校教室采光照明问题十分严重,与国家标准要求差距很大,在被调查的39间教室中,窗地面积比达标率为20.5%,课桌面照度达标率为25.6%,黑板照度达标率为零. 相似文献

Advanced manufacturing technology (AMT) instruction is and is likely to remain an important component of the industrial engineering education curriculum. As new manufacturing technologies become available and as existing manufacturing technologies become more integrated, industrial engineering departments must continuously develop their laboratory resources in order to provide their students with effective instruction. While financially limited departments cannot acquire state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment, they can provide improved hands-on AMT integration instruction without major capital investment. 根据当今安防的实际需求,设计了一套以ARM为平台,结合GPS技术、GPRS技术和图像采集技术的远程定位与监控终端。当检测到外界突发信号,比如强冲击或者人工按钮被按下,终端将采集到的GPS定位信息和图像信息通过GPRS网络实时传输到监控中心,同时发送报警信息到用户手机,监控中心也能通过发送查询指令,实时获取定位数据和图像信息。该系统具有低成本、高性能、高可靠性等优点,实现了智能报警、远程定位与监控功能。实验运行结果表明,系统定位和监控功能满足实际使用要求。 相似文献

尽管高品质的天然采光可以提高居住环境的舒适度,益于居住者的身心健康,但人们很少了解居住者对天然采光的需求与天然采光之间的量的关系。笔者通过回顾性研究,在结合建筑科学、社会科学、心理学研究方法的基础上,探索一种利用物理实地测量、问卷调查、数理统计为一体的综合研究模式,来建立天然采光的质与量之间的关系,并以此评估建筑天然采光的质量。本文以研究香港中学天然采光质量为例,评估该研究模式的可行性。研究结果证实:此研究模式可以较理想的评估学校建筑的自然采光质量问题。 相似文献

The growing interest in the United Kingdom in educational technology is reflected in the creation of a number of new organizations. The present interest in some devices is outlined; the author describes the rise and fall of programmed instruction, the reasons why early hopes were not realized, and the lessons to be derived. An educational television service and the Open University, both the world's largest systems of their kind, are described. Many teachers are reluctant to accept educational technology; this might be overcome by introducing teachers to the technique in a teaching situation, through local "workshops," the use of audiovisual aids in selected educational establishments, and instruction in the management of equipment.
