Measurements were made of 131I, 137Cs, 134Cs and 103Ru in environmental samples collected from Ibaraki-Prefecture, Japan, after the Chernobyl accident. The highest values of 131I obtained in May 1986 were 98 Bq l-1 (2.7 nCi l-1) for rain water (collected at the beginning of the rainfall), 400 Bq kg-1 (11 nCi kg-1) for pine needles (wet), 160 Bq kg-1 (4.3 nCi kg-1) for vegetables (wet) and 52 Bq kg-1 (1.4 nCi kg-1) for seaweed (wet). Most of the radioiodine in rain water was present as IO3- and I-. The proportion of IO3- in fresh rain water was higher than that of I-, but the IO3- was converted to I- during storage. About 10% of 131I was removed from leaf vegetables by washing, and about 70% by boiling. 相似文献

After the Chernobyl accident in April 1986, considerable deposition of radionuclides occurred regionally in eastern, central and northwestern Sweden. Locally, the fallout of radiocesium exceeded the remainder from atmospheric nuclear weapons tests by several magnitudes. Since the end of the 1960s samples of organs from various plant and animal species, annually collected at different localities, have been preserved in the Swedish Environmental Specimen Bank (ESB). In this work samples from the ESB have been used for retrospective studies of radioactive pollution. The activities of Cs-134 and Cs-137 in muscle tissues from reindeer, Rangifer tarandus, and pike, Esox lucius, preserved in the ESB, were measured. The samples were collected annually; the reindeer at three localities in northern Sweden and the pike at one of them. In material collected prior to the Chernobyl accident, the levels of Cs-137 were 57-180 Bq/kg in reindeer and 14-24 Bq/kg in pike, fresh weight basis. These levels relate to earlier nuclear bomb tests. A significant decrease was found in pike during the pre-Chernobyl period (1971-86). In post-Chernobyl samples the burden of Cs-137 varied from amounts equal to the former levels in the northernmost locality and up to 80 times higher for the maximum values in the southernmost locality. The highest value recorded was 18,425 Bq/kg in reindeer. The geographic variations in reindeer from Chernobyl fallout were in accordance with the pattern of deposition estimated by aircraft surveys performed in May 1986. The ratio between 'new' and 'old' radiocesium burdens in pike, caught in 1987, approached the corresponding ratio for reindeer grazing in the precipitation area of the lake; 33 and 19, respectively. 相似文献

Macrofungi are effective accumulators of Ag. This study provides a comprehensive review of this phenomenon supported by original data on the Ag concentrations of macrofungi from pristine and Ag-polluted areas. In pristine areas, the median Ag concentrations of ectomycorrhizal (ECM) and saprobic (SAP) macrofungi were 0.79 and 2.94 mg kg− 1, respectively. In these areas, hyperaccumulation thresholds for Ag in ECM and SAP macrofungi are proposed as 100 and 300 mg kg− 1, respectively. In a Ag-polluted area, the Ag concentrations in macrofungi (ECM and SAP) were significantly elevated with the median value of 24.7 mg kg− 1 and the highest concentrations in Amanita spp. of the section Vaginatae (304-692 mg kg− 1). The intracellular speciation of Ag in fruit-bodies of the Ag-accumulator Amanita submembranacea was inspected by size exclusion chromatography followed by sulfhydryl-specific fluorimetric assays of ligands using reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography and improved polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Virtually all Ag was found to be intracellular and sequestered in the major 7 kDa and minor 3.3 kDa complexes. The lack of glutathione and phytochelatins and the presence of a single 3 kDa sulfhydryl-containing peptide in the isolated Ag-complexes suggest that detoxification of Ag in A. submembranacea may rely on metallothionein. Vertical distribution of Ag in a polluted forest soil profile has shown substantial enrichment in organic horizons; in polluted technosol, the highest Ag concentrations were found in surface layers. Standardized EDTA extraction of Ag in both the investigated soil profiles showed relatively low Ag extractibility, generally within the range of 2.2-7.7% of total Ag content. 相似文献
