Practical Problems in Jet Dyeing

Experts on jet dyeing and jet-dyeing machines provide details of their practical studies and experiences over a wide range of types and qualities of fabrics. Some comparison is made with conventional winch dyeing from the viewpoint of problem-solving. Attention is drawn to such factors in jet dyeing as loading, rope length, fabric packing, liquor:goods ratios, entanglement, running speed, fabric distortion, avoidance of fabric damage, heating and cooling, and selection of dyes and auxiliaries. The shortcomings of jet machines are detailed. It is agreed that choice of machine from the many available for any given range of fabrics, particularly lightweight qualities, is extremely difficult and requires extensive practical study. The jet-dyeing system is considered to be a very useful contribution to the dyeing industry.

Dilatometer for use in tensile tests

An accurate dilatometer system is presented, which permits a simultaneous and automatic recording of sample volume change during a tensile test on a commercial tensile tester. Liquid displacements in the dilatometer capillary, which correspond to volume changes of the sample, are detected by means of a conductivity meter; tensile load is obtained from the testing machine itself; sample elongation is measured by means of an inductive displacement meter. Some experimental curves are reproduced and briefly discussed.     

Understanding the functions of acrylic processing aids in rigid PVC injection molding

Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) compound use is growing in specialty injection molding applications such as appliances, business equipment, and electrical enclosures. A key factor in determining the appearance and physical properties of the molded parts is the processability of the PVC compounds, which can be improved through the use of acrylic processing aids. Processing aids promote PVC fusion, modify the melt rheology, and/or provide lubrication. Some processing aid products are designed to serve one of these functions while others provide a combination of functions. Each of these functions and its major benefits in rigid PVC injection molding are described. Some guidelines for selecting appropriate processing aid products for applications are provided.

镜面磨削主要取决于机床精度、切削用量和砂轮的选择与修整。文章主要研究在MG1432高精度万能外圆磨床上,通过在磨削工艺过程中改变修整砂轮时工作台速度、磨削时工作台速度、工件线速度和过余进给量四个因素探索对工件粗糙度的影响。其实验条件为：使用树脂结合剂白刚玉石墨砂轮;工件为GCr15（HRC60）;修整工具为锋利的单颗粒金刚石修正笔,最终实现镜面磨削的工艺效果。

An attempt was made to indicate the possibility of using organic compounds as casting electrolytes, and to ascertain their effect upon the durability of plaster molds. The data presented point out the fact that ethylamine, piperidine, or tetramethylammoniumhydroxide may be used as casting electrolytes and that they attack molds to a lesser degree than do sodium carbonate and sodium silicate. Some data are presented which compare viscosity with surface tension.
