Background  

We had found a 14% higher incidence of pneumonia with vitamin E supplementation in a subgroup of the Alpha-Tocopherol Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention (ATBC) Study cohort: participants who had initiated smoking by the age of 20 years. In this study, we explored the modification of vitamin E effect by body weight, because the same dose could lead to a greater effect in participants with low body weight.  相似文献

Factors associated with adiposity in normal weight female adolescents with adequate and high percent body fat: elaborating a risk model. This study was carried out to evaluate the factors associated with adiposity in normal weight adolescents presenting appropriate or high percent body fat, who attended the public schools in Vi?osa county-Minas Gerais/Brazil. A total of 118 female adolescents at age range from 14 to 19 years and have already presented the menarche were evaluated. The adolescents were divided into 2 groups: G1 with high percent body fat and G2 with appropriate percent body fat. The following variables were evaluated: anthropometric, body composition, lifestyle and the family history of non-communicable chronic diseases. In subsample, the basal energy consumption was determined by indirect calorimetry. The G1-grouped adolescents showed higher values for most anthropometric and body composition variables (p < 0.001). No differences were observed (p > 0.05) for basal metabolism and metabolism of lean body mass, smoking habit, total energy consumption and protein and lipid as well between groups. When comparing the physical activity level, the G1 adolescents spent more time with 1-level sedentary activities whereas the G2 ones showed higher total caloric consumption with daily activities (p < 0.001). According to risk factors under analysis, the variables related to lifestyle, as distinguishing the use of sweeteners (OR = 13.47), provided higher contribution to excessive adiposity in the normal weight adolescents. The detailed analysis of the body composition as well as the risk factors associated with excessive body fat makes possible the early diagnosis and the development of more appropriate intervention means.  相似文献

The effect of a diet containingtrans-fatty acids (tFA) on the fatty acid composition and fat accumulation in adipose tissue was investigated in mice. Male C57BI/6J mice were fed Control or Trans Diets that were similar, except that 50% of the 18∶1, which was allcis in the Control Diet, was replaced bytFA in the Trans Diet. At selected ages, body weight, epididymal fat pad weight, perirenal fat yield, adipose tissue cellularity and fatty acid composition were examined. Over the time period studied (2–24 mon), the proportion of 18∶0 and 16∶0 tended to decrease whilecis-18∶1 levels increased. Compared to the Control Diet, the Trans Diet resulted in adipose tissue lipids with higher percentages of 14∶0 and 18∶2n−6 and lower percentages ofcis-18∶1 and 20∶4n−6. In polar lipids,tFA replaced saturated fatty acids, whereastFA replacedcis-18∶1 in the nonpolar lipids. Body weights at 16 and 24 mon of age and epididymal fat pad weights at 8–24 mon of age were lower in mice fed the Trans Diet as compared to those fed the Control Diet. At the ages studied, the Trans Diet also resulted in lower values for perirenal fat weights, triacylglycerol to polar lipid ratios, and adipose cell size. The data suggest that chronic consumption oftFA affects lipid metabolism and results in decreased fat accumulation in murine adipose tissue.  相似文献

Gene‐by‐diet interactions play an important role in the prevention of several diseases. Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) are ligands of gene regulators [e.g. peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptors (PPAR)] and have anti‐inflammatory properties. The aim of the study was to investigate the changes in gene expression in monocytes during the intervention with two trans fatty acids (trans‐11 18:1 and trans‐12 18:1) and endogenous CLA from trans‐11 18:1 as precursor in humans. Monocytes were isolated at baseline and after a 6‐week intervention period. The female and male test groups received Σ6.0 g trans‐11 and trans‐12 18:1/day (1 : 1). The control group received control oil. The expression of candidate genes was determined by quantitative RT‐PCR. Gender‐ and treatment‐related gene expression was found. Due to trans fatty acid intake in both gender subgroups, the relative PPARγ expression was up‐regulated. In the female test group, the expression of FAT, SCD, COX2 and BCL2 were induced, while in the male test group E‐FABP, CYP, GLUT4 and PBE were induced. In the male test group compared to controls, a clear increase in gene expression of PPARγ and GLUT4 was shown. The results reveal a gender‐ and treatment‐related gene expression. There is no clear indication as to what extent the supplemented trans fatty acids and the synthesized cis‐9,trans‐11 CLA were involved.  相似文献

Environmental exposures including dietary habits likely contribute to a high burden of CRC, however, data on the dietary habits of AA is sparse. Mortars were prepared from laboratory cements blended from a set of six representative ground clinkers and Terra Alba gypsum. The addition of gypsum was such that cements containing 1% SO3 less than the optimum SO3 content, the optimum SO3 content, and 1% greater than the optimum SO3 content were produced. Mortar bars and mortar cubes containing each of these cements were exposed to continuous room temperature (23 °C) curing, or to early-age curing cycles involving maximum temperatures of 55 and 85 °C, followed by long-term exposure at 100% RH over water, but not immersed in water. Measurements of expansion, dynamic elastic modulus, and weight gain were recorded at intervals of up to 900 days. Severe cracking and prominent delayed ettringite formation (DEF)-induced expansions were observed in 85 °C cured mortar bars derived from four of the six “oversulfated” cements. Much smaller expansions were observed in mortar bars from two cements with optimum SO3 content cements also cured at 85 °C. No expansion or other visible indication of distress was observed for any of the 55 °C or continuously room-temperature-cured mortars. The dynamic elastic modulus increased progressively on prolonged exposure for the unaffected mortar bars, but it decreased precipitously after the onset of expansion in affected mortar bars. Significant weight increases also accompanied the processes of expansion. Mortars that showed severe cracking and deterioration when exposed as mortar bars suffered almost no visible damage when exposed as cubes.  相似文献

ZrB2–SiC–ZrO2 composites were hot pressed in order to investigate the effects of adding nano-sized ZrO2 particles as well as the hot pressing parameters on the densification behavior of ZrB2–SiC composites. An L9 orthogonal array of the Taguchi method was employed to study the significance of each parameter such as the sintering temperature, time, the applied external pressure, and ZrO2/SiC volume ratio on the densification process. The statistical analyses revealed that among the mentioned parameters, the hot pressing temperature had a great influence over the densification. By being hot pressed at 1850 °C for 90 min under 16 MPa, fully dense ZrB2-based composites were obtained. The relative density of the composites decreased at first and then enhanced as a function of ZrO2/SiC ratio. Microstructural investigation of the fracture surfaces of the composites, which was carried out using the SEM analysis, showed the formation of new phases on the surfaces of SiC grains. The EDS and XRD analyses identified the ZrC as the newly formed interfacial phase due to the reaction between nano-ZrO2 and SiC. The ZrC acted as an adhesive interphase between the ZrB2/SiC grains, which could assist the sintering process.  相似文献

Pembrolizumab (mAb to PD-1) has been recently approved for the therapy of pretreated urothelial cancer. Despite the efficacy, it is often accompanied by unpredictable and sometime severe immune-related (ir) adverse events (AEs). Here, we report the clinical and immune–biological characterization of a patient with a metastatic bladder cancer who developed myositis signs (M) and a myasthenia-like syndrome (MLS) during treatment with pembrolizumab. The patient presented an autoimmunity-associated HLA haplotype (HLA-A*02/HLA-B*08/HLA-C*07/HLA-DRB1*03) and experienced an increase in activated CD8 T-cells along the treatment. The symptomatology regressed after pembrolizumab discontinuation and a pyridostigmine and steroids-based therapy. This is the first report of concurrent M and MLS appearance in cancer patients receiving pembrolizumab. More efforts are needed to define early the risk and the clinical meaning of irAEs in this setting.  相似文献
