Nine samples of fresh raw cow's milk were separated into fat globules and milk serum by centrifugation. After destabilization by freezing and thawing, the milk fat globules were resolved into membranes and fat cores. The lipid composition of these structures was compared to that of the surrounding milk serum. Of the total milk fat, 95–98% was in the fat cores, 0.5–1% in the globule membranes and the rest (1.5–4%) in the milk serum. The fat cores contained 88–93% triglyceride, 5.2–9.8% diglyceride, 1.5–7.3% free fatty acid and 0.2–0.4% cholesterol, but no phospholipid. The lipids of the membrane contained 21–44% phospholipid, made up of about equal proportions of phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidyl choline, and sphingomyelin. The other lipids of the membrane (56–79%) consisted of 83–88% triglyceride, 5.1–10.7% diglyceride, 1–5.1% free fatty acid and 0.4–1.9% cholesterol. The milk serum contained 30–45% phospholipid divided about equally among phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidyl choline and sphingomyelin. The rest (55–70%) of the milk serum lipids was made up of 71–83% triglycerides, 4.3–10.1% diglycerides, 8.7–15.7% free fatty acids, and 1.2–8.4% cholesterol. Corresponding phospholipid classes of milk serum and globule membranes had identical fatty acid compositions. The triglycerides and diglycerides of the globule membranes possessed increased proportions of palmitic and stearic acids in comparison to the glycerides of the fat cores. When phospholipids of newly-emerged adults of the boll weevil,Anthonomus grandis Boheman, were studied in detail, phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine were found to be the major phospholipids; sphingomyelin and cardiolipin were present in smaller amounts, and four other minor components were identified. Fatty acid analyses performed on the intact phospholipids and on the enzyme degradation products of phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine demonstrated that oleic and linoleic acids were the major fatty acids present in the glycerophosphatides; the sphingomyelin contained fatty acids in the range of 20–22 carbons.  相似文献

Thoracic lymph was collected from 13 dogs fed corn oil and butterfat. The chylomicrons were isolated by centrifugation. The lipid composition of the fat core and the membrane of the chylomicron was compared to that of the surrounding lymph serum. The fat cores contained 90–96% triglyceride, 0.7–1.9% free cholesterol, 0.2–0.5% steryl ester, 0.9–3.5% free fatty acid and 1.4–6.1% diglyceride, but no phospholipid. The lipids of the membranes contained 58–75% phospholipid, 20–35% triglyceride, 2–5% free cholesterol, 1–2% free fatty acid, and 2–3% diglyceride, but little or no steryl ester. The membrane phospholipids were made up of 70–90% lecithin, 5–20% phosphatidyl ethanolamine, and 1–3% each of lysolecithin and sphingomyelin. The lymph serum contained 24–47% of total lipid as phospholipid, of which 70–92% was lecithin; the phosphatidyl ethanolamine, lysolecithin and sphingomyelin also present contributed 1–10% each. The neutral lipids of the lymph serum contained 49–75% triglyceride, 2–15% free cholesterol, 6–23% esterified cholesterol, 10–33% free fatty acid and 1–6% diglyceride. Alterations in dietary fat, or plant sterol supplementation led to lesser changes in the lipids of the chylomicron membranes than in the lipids of any other lymph fraction. The least variation was seen in the phospholipids. Taken in part from a PhD Thesis submitted by T. C. Huang to Queen's University, Kingston, Canada, in April 1965. Lipid composition of normal and hypertrophic bovine thyroids   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The phospholipid content of bovine thyroid tissue amounts to 70% of total lipid. Triglycerides and cholesterol are the main neutral lipids. Only trace amounts of free fatty acid and esterified cholesterol are found, while two not yet identified components also are present. The distribution of lipid phosphorus in the different phospholipid classes is as follows: phosphatidyl choline, 43.0%; phosphatidyl ethanolamine, 25.2%; phosphatidyl serine, 5.6%; phosphatidyl inositol, 6.5%; sphingomyelin, 14.0%; cardiolipin, 2.8%; lysophosphatidyl choline, <1%; and phosphatidic acid, <1%. The phosphatidyl ethanolamines are rich in plasmalogens. The fatty acid patterns in the different lipid classes are reported. The essential differences between normal and hypertrophic bovine thyroid tissue are higher water content and lower triglyceride and sphingomyelin values for hypertrophic tissue.  相似文献

Clofibrate administration significantly altered the amount and fatty acid composition of lipids in mouse liver. The net content of phospholipids (PL) increased and that of triacylglycerols (TG) decreased concomitantly with liver enlargement in mice treated for two weeks with this drug (0.5% w/w in the food). The highest increase among PL was in phosphatidylcholine; other components either showed lower increases or, as in the case of sphingomyelin and the plasmalogens, decreased. In all lipid classes the treatment resulted in altered ratios between major saturates, between saturates and monoenes, and between major polyenes. Among these, 20∶3n–6 and 22∶5n–3 increased several-fold, and the 20∶3n–6/20∶4n–6 and 22∶5n–3/22∶6n–3 ratios increased due to a more active formation of the precursors than of the corresponding products. This change affected all glycerolipid classes. Liver sphingomyelin showed a relative enrichment in monoenoic fatty acids like 22∶1 and 24∶1, caused by a net decrease in the amount of saturates, particularly 22∶0 and 24∶0. The stimulated membrane proliferation imposed by clofibrate must increase phospholipid synthesis and, hence, the need for fatty acids. The results suggest that these demands are met mostly by TG acyl groups, either directly or after oxidation/desaturation processes. This was apparently the case for the polyenoic fatty acids of the n-6 and n-3 series. The longer chain (C22 and C24) components decreased, suggesting that their oxidation was stimulated to provide part of the required (C20 and C22) polyenes.  相似文献

The phospholipids of the snailCepaea nemoralis, comprising the major lipid fraction (65%) in this terrestrial pulmonate, were investigated by thin-layer and column chromatography. Detailed gas chromatographic analyses of liberated fatty acid fractions and amino acid analyses of the water soluble moieties of isolated phospholipid classes were carried out. Phosphatidyl choline (47%) and phosphatidyl ethanolamine (21%) were found to be the predominant phospholipid classes, while phosphatidyl serine (8%), phosphatidyl inositol (6%), diphosphatidyl glycerol (3%), ceramide amino-ethylphosphonate (7%), lysophosphatidyl choline (1%), and phosphatidic acid (1%) were present in lesser amounts. In the phosphatidyl ethanolamine and phosphatidyl serine fractions, minor quantities of plasmalogen analogues were detected. Fatty acid profiles of the various phospholipid classes appeared to be strikingly diverse, e.g. a characteristic component, such as linoleic (18∶2ω6) acid, ranging from 3–54%. In vivo radioisotope studies using 1-14C-acetate demonstrated the high biosynthetic rate of all phospholipid classes and their respective fatty acid fractions. Results are discussed in relation to data on the phospholipids from other invertebrate species.  相似文献

The lipid classes, fatty acids of total and individual lipids and sterols of Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba Dana) from two areas of the Antarctic Ocean were analyzed by thin layer chromatography (TLC), gas liquid chromatography (GLC) and gas liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (GLC/MS). Basic differences in the lipid composition of krill from the Scotia Sea (caught in Dec. 1977) and krill from the Gerlache Strait (caught in Mar. 1981) were not observed. The main lipid classes found were: phosphatidylcholine (PC) (33–36%), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) (5–6%), triacylglycerol (TG) (33–40%), free fatty acids (FFA) (8–16%) and sterols (1.4–1.7%). Wax esters and sterol esters were present only in traces. More than 50 fatty acids could be identified using GLC/MS, the major ones being 14∶0, 16∶0, 16∶1(n−7), 18∶1(n−9), 18∶1(n−7), 20∶5(n−3) and 22∶6(n−3). Phytanic acid was found in a concentration of 3% of total fatty acids. Short, medium-chain and hydroxy fatty acids (C≤10) were not detectable. The sterol fraction consisted of cholesterol, desmosterol and 22-dehydrocholesterol.  相似文献

The lipid composition of the pineal organ from the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was determined to establish whether the involvement of this organ in the control of circadian rhythms is reflected by specific adaptations of lipid composition. Lipid comprised 4.9% of the tissue wet weight and triacylglycerols were the major lipid class present (47% of total lipid). Phosphatidylcholine (PC) was the principal polar lipid, and smaller proportions of other phospholipids and cholesterol were also present. Plasmalogens contributed 11% of the ethanolamine glycerophospholipids (EGP). No cerebrosides were detected. The fatty acid composition of triacylglycerols was generally similar to that of total lipids in which saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) were present in almost equal proportions. Each of the polar lipid classes had a specific fatty acid composition. With the exception of phosphatidylinositol (PI), in which 20∶4n−6 comprised 27.4% of the total fatty acids, 22∶6n−3 was the principal PUFA in all lipid classes. The proportion of 20∶5n−3 never exceeded 6.0% of the fatty acids in any lipid class. The predominant molecular species of PC were 16∶0/22∶6n−3 and 16∶0/18∶1, which accounted for 33.2 and 28.5%, respectively, of the total molecular species of this phospholipid. Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) contained the highest level of di-22∶6n−3 (13.0%) of any phospholipid. There was also 4.9% of this molecular species in phosphatidylserine (PS) and 4.1% in PC. In PE, the species 16∶0/22∶6, 18∶1/22∶6 and 18∶0/22∶6 totalled 45.1%, while in PS 18∶0/22∶6 accounted for 43.9% of the total molecular species. The most abundant molecular species of PI was 18∶0/20∶4n−6 (37.8%). The lipid composition of the pineal organ of trout, and particularly the molecular species composition of PI, is more similar to the composition of the retina than that of the brain. Molecular species are abbreviated as follows: e.g., 16∶0/22∶6 PC is 1-palmitoyl-2-docosahexaenoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine.  相似文献

The lipid composition of beef and human pituitary was determined by chromatographic and spectrophotometric methods. Beef pituitary lipid contained about 25% nonpolar lipids and 75% phospholipids whereas nonpolar lipids made up approximately 60% of the total in human pituitaries. The main nonpolar (i.e., low polarity) lipids in human pituitary were triglycerides, cholesterol, free fatty acids and an unidentified component in the triglyceride fraction. Cholesterol was the major nonpolar lipid component in freshly collected beef anterior and posterior pituitary, but the amount of free fatty acids appeared to increase during storage. Preliminary investigation of the unknown nonpolar lipid in human pituitaries suggested that it was an unsaturated hydroxy compound with no carbonyl functions. Thin layer chromatography indicated that it was also present in smaller amounts in freshly collected beef pituitaries. The main phospholipids of beef anterior, posterior and human pituitary were phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl inositol, phosphatidyl serine and sphingomyelin. The fatty acid composition of total nonpolar lipids, free fatty acids, total phospholipids, phosphatidyl ethanolamine and phosphatidyl choline of beef anterior and posterior pituitary was determined by gas liquid chromatography. Mixtures of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids ranging from C12 to C22 were present; the main fatty acids were palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and arachidonic.  相似文献

Feeding an oil from Lunaria biennis rich in 22∶1n−9 and 24∶1n−9 to homozygous quaking (qk.qk) mice caused a large increase in the percentage of 24∶1n−9 and corresponding decreases in the percentage of 24∶0 and 22∶0 in sphingomyelins from liver, erythrocytes, and milk. Brain sphingomyelin from 2-wk-old qk.qk pups born to qk.qk mothers maintained on the Lunaria oil had essentially normal percentage of 24∶1n−9 and 18∶0, in contrast to pups born to mothers maintained on a control oil rich in 18∶1n−9 whose brain sphingomyelin had a markedly reduced percentage of 24∶1n−9 and an increased percentage of 18∶0. After 2 wk and up to and beyond weaning, the qk.qk pups from Lunaria-fed mothers weaned on to the Lunaria diet had a markedly decreased percentage of 24∶1n−9 in their brain sphingomyelin, accompanied by an increased percentage of 18∶0, as compared to heterozygous quaking mice. However, the percentage of 24∶1n−9 in brain sphingomyelin in qk.qk pups weaned on to the Lunaria diet continued throughout this period (2–8 wk postbirth) to be significantly higher than in qk.qk pups weaned on to the control diet. We conclude that dietary 24∶1n−9 influences the fatty acid composition of brain sphingomyelin in qk.qk mice, but only via the mother in pre- or early postnatal animals. We further consider that the dietary effects may be elicited mainly in the sphingomyelin of nonmyelinated brain cells, and that the nervonic acid in myelin sphingomyelin may be formed mainly by chain elongation in oligodendrocytes from shorter chain fatty acid precursors.  相似文献

Platelet phospholipid and fatty acid composition was determined in nine normal subjects and in 11 patients with primary defects in platelet function. Two of the patients had thrombasthenia (Glanzmann) and nine had various types of abnormalities in platelet aggregation and platelet factor 3 availability attributed to impairment of the platelet release reaction. The values observed for platelet lipids in the normal subjects were similar to those reported by others. Four of the patients with a disturbance in the platelet release reaction were in the same family and showed the same abnormal pattern of platelet lipid composition. Phospholipid analysis showed a decrease in the relative amount of phosphatidyl ethanolamine (PE) and an increase in lecithin. Abnormalities in fatty acids consisted of an increase in the relative amounts of 18∶1ω9, 20∶0 and 20∶1ω9 and a decrease in the 22∶4ω6+24∶1 fraction. Similar changes in PE and 18∶1ω9 were also observed in another patient with a similar defect in platelet function. In this patient the relative amount of platelet sphingomyelin was also increased. The platelet lipid composition in the other six patients and in one normal subject given aspirin was essentially normal.  相似文献

Lipids of some thermophilic fungi   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Total lipid content in the thermophilic fungi—Thermoascus aurantiacus, Humicola lanuginosa, Malbranchea pulchella var.sulfurea, andAbsidia ramosa—varied from 5.3 to 19.1% of mycelial dry weight. The neutral and polar lipid fractions accounted for 56.4 to 80.2% and 19.8 to 43.6%, respectively. All the fungi contained monoglycerides, diglycerides, triglycerides, free fatty acids, and sterols in variable amounts. Sterol ester was detected only inA. ramosa. Phosphatide composition was: phosphatidyl choline (15.9–47%), phosphatidyl ethanolamine (23.4–67%), phosphatidyl serine (9.3–17.6%), and phosphatidyl inositol (1.9–11.9%). Diphosphatidyl glycerol occurred in considerable quantity only inH. lanuginosa andM. pulchella var.sulfurea. Phosphatidic acid, detected as a minor component only inM. pulchella var.sulfurea andA. ramosa, does not appear to be a characteristic phosphatide of thermophilic fungi as suggested earlier. The 16∶0, 16∶1, 18∶0, 18∶1, and 18∶2 acids were the main fatty acid components. In addition,A. ramosa contained 18∶3 acid. Total lipids contained an average of 0.93 double bonds per mole of fatty acids, and neutral lipids tend to be more unsaturated than phospholipids.  相似文献

The lipid composition of the yellow clam,Mesodesma mactroides, that lives in the northern beaches of the Buenos Aires province of Argentina was studied. The main nonpolar lipids are triglycerides and alkoxyglycerides. Phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, and phosphatidyl serine are the main phospholipids. The predominant fatty acids are 16∶0, 16∶1ω7, 18∶0, 18∶1ω9, 20∶5ω3, and 22∶6ω3. The are mainly provided by the clam's food and stored in the hepatopancreas. The content of polyunsaturated acids increases in summer together with an increase in nonpolar lipids and is correlative with an increase in phytoplankton in the sea water. Sexual maturity modifies the lipid composition of gametes.  相似文献

Phospholipid classes were separated from mouse brain lipid extracts by preparative thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Methyl esters were prepared from the intact phospholipids by direct transesterification at room temperature in the presence of silica gel by using 0.5m NaOH-methanol in order to prevent interference by aldehydes or derivatives. Dimethyl acetal derivatives of phosphoglyceride alkenyl ethers (alkenyl moiety with a double bond in 1,2-position relative to oxygen linkage) were prepared, using 5% concentrated HCl in methanol, followed by preparative TLC for isolation. The major phospholipids present were ethanolamine phosphoglycerides (EPG) 39.8%, choline phosphoglycerides (CPG) 39.7%, serine phosphoglycerides (SPG) 15.0%, and sphingomyelin (Sph) 5.4%. One-fifth of the total phospholipids (PL) were in the form of plasmalogens, mainly EPG. Choline and serine plasmalogens were present in trace quantities. The major aldehyde components of the plasmalogens were 16∶0, 18∶0, and 18∶1. The EPG were rich in long-chain poly-unsaturated fatty acids, including 28.8% of 22∶6 and 17.0% of 20∶4, but contained only 7.2% of 16∶0. In contrast, the CPG contained 39.6% of 16∶0, and 31.0% of 18∶1 with a small content of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The SPG exhibited a still different pattern containing 38.2% of 18∶0, 23.2% of 18∶1, 24.3% of 22∶6, 2.9% of 16∶0, and 3.8% of 20∶4. Normal phase high performance liquid chromatography methods are described for the separation of neutral lipid, fatty acid and five phospholipid classes using spectrophotometric detection at 206 nm. Separations were accomplished in less than 10 min for each lipid class. A mobile phase consisting of hexane/methyltertiarybutylether/acetic acid (100∶5∶0.02) proved effective in separating cholesteryl ester and triglyceride with recoveries of 100% for radiolabeled cholesteryl oleate and 98% for radiolabeled triolein. Free fatty acid and cholesterol were separated by two different mobile phases. The first, hexane/methyltertiarybutylether/acetic acid (70∶30∶0.02) effectively separated free fatty acids and cholesterol, but did not separate cholesterol from 1,2-diglyceride. A mobile phase consisting of hexane/isopropanol/acetic acid (100∶2∶0.02) effectively separated free fatty acid, cholesterol, 1,2-diglyceride and 1,3-diglyceride. Recoveries of oleic acid and cholesterol were 100% and 97%, respectively. Five phospholipid classes were separated using methylteriarybutylether/methanol/aqueous ammonium acetate (pH 8.6) (5∶8∶2) as the mobile phase. The recoveries of phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, sphingomyelin and lysophosphatidylcholine were each greater than 96%.  相似文献

The neutral and polar lipid composition ofEntomophthora coronata was determined qualitatively. The fungus was grown on a chemically nondefined medium (Sabouraud dextrose yeast extract) and a chemically defined medium for a period up to 26 days. The lipids were characterized by thin-layer, column, gas chromatography, and selective sprays,32P-labeling, and mass spectrometry. The neutral lipids consist of monoglycerides, diglycerides, cholesterol, free fatty acids, triglycerides, and cholesteryl esters. The polar lipids consist of phospholipids (phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidyl choline, lysophosphatidyl ethanolamine, lysophosphatidyl choline, and spingomyelin), a number of glycolipids including cerebrosides, and many unrecognizable lipids, most of which are present in trace amounts. The cerebrosides and spingomyelin are present in significant amounts, and their concentration increased with age of the culture. The major fatty acids (>10%) of the total, neutral, and polar lipids of the mycelia are 14∶0, 16∶0, 18∶1, 18∶3(γ), and 24∶1. The polar lipids of total culture (unsaturation index 0.88) and of the conidia (unsaturation index 1.48) are considerably more unsaturated than the corresponding neutral lipids (unsaturated index 0.50 and 0.49). The mycelial polar lipids, compared to the neutral lipids, possess less 14∶0 and 18∶1 but contain a greater percentage of 16∶0, 18∶2, 18∶3(γ), 24∶0, and 24∶1. The major fatty acid of the conidia (>10%) are 13∶0, 14∶0, 18∶1, 18∶2, 18∶3(γ), and 20∶4. Their polar lipids have a higher proportion of 18∶2, 18∶3(γ), and 20∶4. The cerebrosides possess 24.1 in high relative proportion (30.1%). Presented at the AOCS Meeting, Atlantic City, October 1971.  相似文献

The fatty acid composition of the major liver microsomal phospholipids has been studied during pre- and postnatal development of the rabbit. The fatty acid composition of the total lipids, phosphatidyl choline, and phosphatidyl ethanolamine from animals −6, −3, 0, +3, +6, +9, +16, and +112 days of age was determined. Fatty acid composition is similar in phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine for oleic acid at +3, +6, +9, and +16 day old animals; palmitoleic acid at +9 day old animals and linoleic acid at −6, −3, and 0 day old animals. Palmitoleic acid demonstrated a uniform decrease during early development in the total lipids and in both phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine; however, in the 112 day animal, the amount was just slightly lower than that observed for the earliest prenatal animal studied. Oleic acid decreased considerably during early postnatal development in the total lipids, phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine, but an increase in the 112 day animal was observed. Linoleic acid fluctuated considerably throughout postnatal development in the total lipids as well as in the two major phosphatides. Lecithin biosynthesis has been studied by two pathways during development of rabbit liver from −6 days to +110 days. The two pathways of lecithin biosynthesis were evaluated by assaying the activities of the liver enzymes choline phosphotransferase and phosphatidylmethyltransferase at different time intervals during development. The greater enzymatic activity was observed in the cholinephosphotransferase during development.  相似文献

Lipids from bovine optic nerve were analyzed. The total content of 16.5% by weight included 27.2% nonpolar lipids, 26.1% glycolipids, and 46.7% phospholipids by weight. Free cholesterol was the major component of the nonpolar lipid fraction. The cerebrosides, 73.5% of total glycolipids, were separated by thin layer chromatography (TLC) into two bands (upper and lower) that were present in equal proportion. Cerebroside sulfates comprised about 27.5% of total glycolipids. Gangliosides were also detected in the glycolipid fraction. In order of predominance, choline glycerophospholipids, ethanolamine glycerophospholipids, ethanolamine plasmalogens, serine glycerophospholipids, sphingomyelins, and inositol glycerophospholipids were the major phospholipids. Palmitoyl (16∶0), stearoyl (18∶0), and oleoyl (18∶1) groups were the major acyl groups in all neutral and phospholipid classes. However, ethanolamine glycerophospholipids, serine glycerophospholipids, and inositol glycerophospholipids contained a large percentage of 22∶6 (docosahexaenoyl) group. The major alk-1-enyl groups of the plasmalogens were 16∶0, 18∶0, and 18∶1. Steroyl (18∶0), lignoceroyl (24∶0), and nervonoyl (24∶1) were the major acyl groups in all sphingolipids. Lower cerebroside band and cerebroside sulfates contained large amount of hydroxylignoceroyl (cerebronoyl) and hydroxynervonoyl groups. This investigation was supported by Grants DE-03191 and 2S06-RR-08037 from the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD.  相似文献

The lipid and fatty acid composition of muscle of 10 species of freshwater fish obtained from a market of Shanghai City was examined. Total lipids (TL) ranged over 0.9–4.7% of muscle for all samples. The content of triacylglycerol (TG) in muscle ranged over 0.2–3.4% and that of polar lipids (PL) was 0.5–1.3%. Differences of TL content were dependent on TG contents. The predominant important fatty acids (>10% of the total fatty acids in TL) were 16∶0 and 18∶1n−9 with some 16∶1n−7, 18∶2n−6, and 22∶6n−3. The polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) content was 10.2–43.4%, and especially Chinese sea bass contained above 20% of 22∶6n−3 in the total fatty acids. There were higher levels of PUFA such as 20∶5n−3 and 22∶6n−3 in PL than in neutral lipids. Muscle of the silver carp was stored at 20°C, and changes of lipid classes during storage were examined. Free fatty acids increased, and PL decreased during storage. This phenomenon was inhibited by heating the muscle, suggesting that lipid hydrolysis by phospholipase occurred in silver carp muscle.  相似文献

Weanling rats were fed essential fatty acid-deficient diets, either completely fat-free, or with partially hydrogenated fish oil (PHFO, 28 wt %), or with fractions derived from PHFO containing primarily positional isomers oftrans-eicosenoate (20∶1, 3 wt %) ortrans-docosenoate (22∶1, 3 wt %). Control animals were fed a peanut oil-containing diet (28 wt %). After 5 or 15 weeks on the diet, the content of neutral and phosphorus-containing lipids in the testes was determined. The fatty acid distribution in major lipid classes was analyzed for animals fed the diets for 15 weeks. The testicular stage of maturation or degeneration was assessed by histology. The group fed PHFO exhibited signs of complete testicular degeneration, or lack of maturation, already after 5 weeks, whereas the animals on the diets with the very long chain monoenoic acids suffered severe degenerations only after 15 weeks. In the PHFO-fed rats, a sharp decline in the concentration of testicular triacylglycerols was observed. In all of the essential fatty acid-deficient groups, an increase in testicular sphingomyelin was observed. Cholesterol levels were fairly similar among all dietary groups. The total testicular fatty acids of the PHFO-fed animals contained somewhat more eicosadienoic acid than found in the other groups, and somewhat less (n−9)-acids. In all EFA-deficient groups, (n−6)-acids were lowered, in particular in triacylglycerols and phosphatidyl cholines. The PHFO group did not show a lower (n−6)-concentration than the other deficient groups, in spite of the more severe symptoms of deficiency. There was no evidence of a major accumulation of long chain isomeric fatty acids in the degenerated testes of the PHFO-, 20∶1, and 22∶1-fed groups.  相似文献
