It is demonstrated how modulation schemes based on QPSK can be directly incorporated into QAM-based systems. It is argued that this leads directly to an easily implementable structure that is both efficient in bandwidth and data reliability. It is contended that the correct solution to the concatenated coding problem for HDTV transmission is to simply extend the modulation codes developed for QPSK-to-QAM modulation. In nonconcatenated situations, a trellis code based on a binary code at rate 2/3 is usually best. However, this is not the case for higher error rates at the output of the trellis decoder (e.g., when a symbol error correcting decoder follows as a concatenated code). The reason for this follows from an analysis of the effect of the number of nearest neighbors on the error rate. A four-way partition of QAM is a natural extension of QPSK modulation; it is a simple matter to incorporate any good QPSK code into a trellis coding scheme for QAM modulation. A concatenated coding scheme based on QPSK trellis codes and symbol error correcting coding is proposed. An example is presented to show the advantages of this approach  相似文献

We apply two reduced-computation variants of the BCJR algorithm to the decoding of serial and parallel concatenated convolutional codes. One computes its recursions at only M states per trellis stage; one computes only at states with values above a threshold. The threshold scheme is much more efficient, and it greatly reduces the computation of the BCJR algorithm. By computing only when the channel demands it, the threshold scheme reduces the turbo decoder computation to one-four nodes per trellis stage after the second iteration  相似文献

The future terrestrial television broadcasting system should support the transmission of a digital HDTV signal with a high spectral efficiency. In addition, this system should maintain graceful degradation as the actual analog systems, and should be compatible with the SDTV. The system compatibility can be achieved by using a hierarchical HDTV source-coding scheme that can provide at least two (HDTV, SDTV) or three (HDTV, EDTV, SDTV) hierarchy levels: SDTV image quality will be expected for portable receivers, and HDTV/EDTV image quality will destinate to stationary receivers with roof-top antennas. Taking into account the receivers' antenna gains and the different channel conditions, there will be a difference of 25–30 dB between the received powers of the stationary and the portable receivers. Therefore, the design of a powerful and a suitable transmission scheme for the future broadcasting of the digital HDTV signal will be a technological challenge. In this article we describe a concept of a flexible reconfigurable hierarchical digital terrestrial TV broadcasting system for clear and taboo channels. The flexibility of the proposed scheme easily permits the receivers to support different reconfigurable modes: One HDTV program or multi-programming EDTV or SDTV (for fixed receivers up to 5 × SDTV in clear and up to 2 × SDTV in taboo channels; for portable receivers up to 2 × SDTV.) The system achieves a high interoperability with the Satellite Baseline system. It maintains a graceful degradation and provides a hierarchical complexity. It is based on a concatenated coding scheme. The inner code of the concatenated coding scheme is combined with multi-resolution modulation. The basic constellation is a 64-QAM, which will be operated in clear channels. It can be reconfigured to a 16-QAM in the case of taboo channels. The principle of OFDM with very rugged frequency/time synchronization mechanisms is used to combat the frequency selectivity and the co-channel interference (CCI) in the channel. Known pilot symbols are sent regularly in order to perform coherent detection.The authors are within the RACE-dTTb and the German HDTV-T project.  相似文献

Trellis coded modulation (TCM) is a bandwidth efficient transmission scheme that can achieve high coding gain by integrating coding and modulation. This paper presents an analytical expression for the error event probability of concatenated space-time block coding with TCM which reveals some dominant factors affecting the system performance over slow fading channels when perfect interleavers are used. This leads to establishing the design criteria for constructing the optimal trellis codes of such a concatenated system over slow flat fading channels. Through simulation, significant performance improvement is shown to be obtained by concatenating the interleaved streams of these codes with space-time block codes over fading channels. Simulation results also demonstrate that these trellis codes have better error performance than traditional codes designed for single-antenna Gaussian or fading channels. Performance results over quasi-static fading channels without interleaving are also compared in this paper. Furthermore, it is shown that concatenated space-time block coding with TCM (with/without interleaving) outperforms space-time trellis codes under the same spectral efficiency, trellis complexity, and signal constellation.  相似文献

我们提出了一种多符号网格码(MTCM)与差分空时分组码级连的传输方法,研究了在传输信道是慢时变平坦瑞利衰变的条件下,并采用理想交织时系统的性能。导出了这个级连系统的成对错误概率上限表达式,分析表明,系统的性能主要受到不同信号序列间的最小汉明矩离和信号星座间的平方欧几里德矩离的影响。仿真结果表明,在相同的频谱有效性和信号星座条件下,这种级连的系统比非级连差分空时编码系统有更好的性能。  相似文献

In this paper, we present a novel concatenated trellis coded modulation (CTCM) scheme for limited diversity order fading channels. Examples for such channels include those encountered in indoor wireless networks like IEEE 802.11. It is first shown that when the diversity order afforded by the channel is fixed, bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) is no longer the best way to encode. We then develop CTCM, which is superior to both BICM and conventional TCM of similar complexities. Unlike conventional TCM where convolutional codes are designed over modulated signal sets, CTCM has TCM concatenated to short length inner codes. Each trellis branch in the TCM now corresponds to a short block-code. We discuss design of good inner codes that allow for simple decoders. CTCM design incorporates useful features of both BICM and conventional TCM. Code design is explained with examples. Simulation results and information theoretic supporting the arguments are shown.  相似文献

Shows how coding and constellation shaping may provide significant gains to a discrete multitone (DMT) system transmitting over spectrally-shaped channels. First, the authors present and analyze a concatenated coding scheme consisting of an inner trellis code and outer block code when applied to DMT modulation, and address some of the implementation issues associated with this scheme. Some laboratory test results for a DMT prototype employing the coding scheme are presented. Next, they propose a method for applying Forney's trellis shaper across the tones in a DMT system to realize significant shaping gain. To illustrate the coding and shaping gains achieved, they use scenarios indicative of the newly introduced asymmetric digital subscriber line service. By combining a powerful coding scheme, shaping, and DMT modulation, they arrive at an implementable transceiver that can provide very high data rates over spectrally-shaped channels  相似文献
