Cr-doped diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were synthesized using a cathodic arc evaporation (CAE) process. The thermal oxidation behavior of Cr-doped DLC films was investigated using thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The phase identification and microstructural examinations were conducted by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM), transmission electron spectroscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) in order to understand the characteristics of Cr-doped DLC films. The as-deposited Cr-doped DLC film exhibits a lamellar structure observed by TEM. A significant weight loss of film results from the thermal oxidation of carbon occurred at 290 to 342 °C. At the temperature higher than 342 °C, slight weight gain of specimen was observed due to the thermal oxidation of the underlying CrCxNy and CrN interlayer. By heat-treated specimens from 200 to 400 °C, Raman spectra reveal the increase of ID/IG value conforming to the graphitiation process of the Cr-doped DLC films. Finally, surface reactions of the annealed films using XPS analysis were discussed.  相似文献

Ion beam-assisted deposition offers a novel and unique process to prepare diamond-like carbon (DLC) films at room temperature, with particularly good interface adhesion. This advantage was explored in this study to deposit highly wear-resistant coating on bearing 52100 steel. Both dual ion beam sputtering and ion beam deposition were employed. Various bombarding species and energy were investigated to optimize the process. Raman, X-ray photoelectron and Auger electron spectroscopy were used to characterize the bonding structure of DLC. Extensive experiments were carried out to examine the tribological behaviour of the DLC/52100 system. A metal intermediate layer can help tremendously in wear resistance. The results are optimistic and may lead to useful applications.  相似文献

Titanium-doped diamond-like carbon (Ti-doped DLC) films with a Ti content of 1.1 at.% were synthesized on a Si substrate by a process that involves filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) and metal vapor vacuum arc (MeVVA) systems. The effect of annealing temperature on the microstructure, surface roughness, hardness and electrical resistivity of the resulting films was evaluated in this study. The Raman spectra revealed that the degree of graphitization of the Ti-doped DLC thin films was increased from 25 to 600 °C and the microstructure of the films is converted to a nano-crystalline graphite structure. The resulting films maintain a smooth surface after the annealing process. The hardness of the Ti-doped DLC films increases as the annealing temperature increases up to 400 °C because the induced defects and the inter-atomic bonds are repaired after the annealing process. But the hardness decreases at the higher temperature due to the increase of number and size of the nano-crystalline graphitic domains. Since the degree of graphitization of the thin films increases, the electrical resistivity of the Ti-doped DLC thin films decreases from 0.038 to 0.006 Ω cm.  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were synthesized by RF plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition and the effects of plasma pre-treatment and post-treatment on the DLC films were investigated. Experimental results show that the surface roughness of the substrate, ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 nm, created by the plasma pre-treatment, will affect the surface roughness of the DLC films deposited using methane as the carbon source. However, the film surface roughness (0.1-0.4 nm) is much smaller than that of the substrate. Raman analysis and hardness measurement by nanoindentation indicate that the structure and the hardness of the DLC films are relatively unchanged for the film surface roughness investigated. For the argon or hydrogen plasma post-treatment of the DLC films deposited using acetylene as the carbon source, it is found that surface roughness decreases with the post-treatment time. Although the hardness decreases after post-treatment, it remains relatively constant with increasing post-treatment time.  相似文献

Ternary TiCrN and nanocomposite TiCr(C,N)/amorphous carbon (a-C) coatings with different carbon contents (0-26.6 at.%) were synthesized by cathodic arc evaporation with plasma enhanced duct equipment. The structural, chemical, and mechanical properties of the deposited films were studied by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and nanoindentation measurement. The atomic content ratios of carbon/(Ti + Cr) and carbon/nitrogen increased with increasing C2H2 flow rate. A nanocomposite structure of coexisting metastable hard TiCr(C,N) crystallites and amorphous carbon phases was found in the TiCr(C,N)/a-C coatings, those possessed smaller crystallite sizes than the ternary TiCrN film. XPS analyses revealed the concentration of a-C increased with increasing carbon content from 8.9 at.% to 26.6 at.%. Exceeding the metastable solubility range of carbon within the TiCrN lattice, the carbon formed a-C phase in the deposited coatings. The nanocomposite TiCr(C,N)/a-C coatings exhibited higher hardness value of 29-31 GPa than the deposited TiCrN coating (26 ± 1 GPa). It has been found that the structural and mechanical properties of the films were correlated with the carbon content in the TiCr(C,N)/a-C coatings.  相似文献

An anode layer source is a special ion gun, which can be fed with carbon precursors like acetylene to deposit hard and highly defect-free hydrogenated diamond-like carbon films at room temperature. The present study focuses on the influence of the process parameters — discharge voltage, process pressure and acetylene flow — on structure and mechanical properties of the deposited films. Raman spectra show that an increased discharge voltage yields decreased structural disorder, i.e. a lower C-C sp3 hybridised fraction of carbon atoms in the films. By an elevation of the discharge voltage from 1 to 3 kV the full width at half maximum of the G-band decreases from 194 ± 0.2 cm− 1 to 183 ± 0.7 cm− 1. Films deposited at the lowest discharge voltage show in accordance to the spectroscopic data the highest nanohardness (36 ± 1 GPa), stress (− 2.34 ± 0.2 GPa) and reduced elastic modulus (180 ± 4 GPa).  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were deposited by a cathodic arc plasma evaporation (CAPD) process, using a mechanical shield filter combined with a magnetic filter with enhanced arc structure at substrate-bias voltage ranging from − 50 to − 300 V. The film characteristics were investigated using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The mechanical properties were investigated by using a nanoindentation tester, scratch test and ball on disc wear test. The Raman spectra of the films showed that the wavenumber ranging from 900 to 1800 cm− 1 could be deconvoluted into 1140 cm− 1, D band and G band. The bias caused a significant effect on the sp3 content which was increased with the decreasing of ID/IG ratio. The XPS spectra data of the films which were etched by H+ plasma indicated the sp3 content are higher than those of the as-deposited DLC films. This implied that there is a sp2-rich layer present on the surface of the as-deposited DLC films. The nanoindentation hardness increased as the maximum load increased. A 380 nm thick and well adhered DLC film was successfully deposited on WC-Co substrate above a Ti interlayer. The adhesion critical load of the DLC films was about 33 N. The results of the wear tests demonstrated that the friction coefficient of the DLC films was between 0.12 and 0.2.  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films have proven quite advantageous in many tribological applications due to their low friction coefficient, their extreme hardness, and more recently their high adherence on different substrate materials. However, for many applications, DLC films as thick as 2 μm are required, which cause high residual stress. In order to overcome this problem, this study observed the behavior of different thicknesses of silicon interlayer between DLC films and Ti6Al4V substrates. The study also analyzed the relation of growth parameters to the mechanical properties of DLC films. Silicon and DLC films were grown by using a rf-PECVD at 13.56 MHz with silane and methane atmospheres, respectively. The contribution of an interlayer thickness to the adhesion between the DLC films and Ti6Al4V substrate was evaluated by using a micro-scratch technique. The hardness and friction coefficient were evaluated by using microindentation and lateral force microscopy (LFM), respectively. Raman scattering spectroscopy was used to characterize the film quality. A correlation was found between the intrinsic stress and adhesion of DLC film and the parameters of the silicon interlayer growth. The addition of a silicon interlayer successfully reduced intrinsic stress of the films, even as measured by using a perfilometry technique.  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon films (DLC) and silicon doped diamond-like carbon films were deposited on Ni substrate by cathodic micro-arc discharge at room temperature in aqueous solutions. The deposit potential was 130 V. The structure of the films was characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectra and XPS analysis demonstrated that the films were diamond-like carbon clearly. SEM observation showed that the DLC films were uniform and the thickness was about 200 nm. Potentiodynamic polarization curve indicated the corrosion resistance of the Ni substrate was markedly improved by DLC films.  相似文献

We have examined the effect of annealing on physicochemical properties of the diamond-like carbon (DLC) films to produce higher quality films by the electron spin resonance spectral analyses of the immobilized dangling-bond sites (DBS), since amount of DBS reflects the characteristics of DLC films. On heat treatment of DLC deposited from ethylene monomer under anaerobic condition, the DBS decay was clearly shown, as the temperature raised. The decay described by second-order kinetics indicated that the recombination reaction of DBS progressed on heat treatment, suggesting that annealing treatment would accelerate the carbon-carbon covalent bonding network to produce harder films. In fact, the resulted DLC film derived from ethylene monomer showed non-existence of any type of oxygen atom based on X-ray photoelectron spectrum measurement, and water contact angle measurement showed higher hydrophobic surface of the DLC films.  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were synthesized by RF plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition using acetylene as the carbon source and the effects of acetylene/nitrogen ratio in the reaction atmosphere, deposition pressure, and plasma post-treatment using different atmospheres on the surface roughness and mechanical properties of DLC films were investigated. Although the surface roughness, characterized by AFM, decreased as the acetylene/nitrogen ratio in the reaction atmosphere decreased, the hardness of DLC films measured by nanoindentation also decreased with the decrease of the acetylene/nitrogen ratio, which is consistent with the Raman results of the ID/IG ratio. Rougher films with higher residual stress were obtained when using a deposition pressure higher than 40.0 Pa (0.3 torr). For the effect of plasma post-treatment using different atmospheres, surface smoothing was found for the hydrogen plasma post-treatment, whereas nitrogen and argon plasma post-treatments resulted in surface roughening. Hydrogen plasma post-treatment was found to lower the surface roughness without significantly sacrificing the hardness.  相似文献

The paper presents investigations of the optical properties of thin high-refractive-index silicon nitride (SiNx) and diamond-like carbon (DLC) films deposited by the radio-frequency plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition method for applications in tuning the functional properties of optical devices working in the infrared spectral range, e.g., optical sensors, filters or resonators. The deposition technique offers the ability to control the film's optical properties and thickness on the nanometer scale. We obtained thin, high-refractive-index films of both types at deposition temperatures below 350 °C, which is acceptable under the thermal budget of most optical devices. In the case of SiNx films, it was found that for short deposition processes (up to 5 min long) the refractive index of the film increases in parallel with its thickness (up to 50 nm), while for longer processes the refractive index becomes almost constant. For DLC films, the effect of refractive index increase was observed up to 220 nm in film thickness.  相似文献

In this study diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were deposited by a dual-mode (radio frequency/microwave) reactor. A mixture of hydrogen and methane was used for deposition of DLC films. The film structure, thickness, roughness, refractive index of the films and plasma elements were investigated as a function of the radio frequency (RF) and microwave (MW) power, gas ratio and substrate substance. It was shown that by increasing the H2 content, the refractive index grows to 2.63, the growth rate decreases to 10 (nm/min) and the surface roughness drops to 0.824 nm. Taking into consideration the RF power it was found that, as the power increases, the growth rate increases to 11.6 (nm/min), the variations of the refractive index and the roughness were continuously increasing, up to a certain limit of RF power. The Raman G-band peak position was less dependent on RF power for the glass substrate than that of the Si substrate and a converse tendency exists with increasing the hydrogen content. Adding MW plasma to the RF discharge (dual-mode) leads to an increase of the thickness and roughness of the films, which is attributed to the density enhancement of ions and radicals. Also, optical emission spectroscopy is used to study the plasma elements.  相似文献

Bi-layer W-Se-C/diamond-like carbon (DLC) and WSex/DLC coatings were obtained by standard and shadow-masked pulsed laser co-deposition from WSe2 and graphite targets. W-Se-C coatings appeared as nanocomposites containing quasi-amorphous WSe2, WC, spherical β-W nanocrystalline particles encapsulated in WSe2 amorphous shell, and amorphous carbon phases. In WSex/DLC coatings, the formation of chemical bonds between W and C atoms was noticed at the interface. An increase of the C concentration over 40 at.% increases hardness and elasticity (up to 2 times at ~ 60 at.%C), and the Se/W ratio was always close to 1.4. The use of shadow-masked configuration avoids the deposition of micro- and nanoparticles. However, this method leads to a substantial increase of the Se content (Se/W ≥ 4), and the coatings became softer.  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were successfully prepared on glass substrates and surfaces of selenium drums via radio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition method. The microstructure, surface morphology, hardness, film adhesion, and tribological properties of the films were characterized and evaluated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and micro-sclerometer and friction-wear spectrometer. The results showed that DLC films have smooth surfaces, homogeneous particle sizes, and excellent tribological properties, which can be used to improve the surface quality of the selenium drums and prolong their service life.  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films have been successfully deposited on Y-cut LiNbO3 substrates using the plasma enhanced CVD technique. A thin interlayer of SiC between the DLC films and the LiNbO3 is necessary to ensure a good adhesion of the DLC films to the LiNbO3 substrate. The physical properties and structural network of the DLC films have been investigated in detail. It is observed that the film hardness is increased with increasing the film thickness, as is the adhesion of the DLC films to the LiNbO3 substrates. The effect of accelerating surface acoustic wave by the DLC films has been confirmed.  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were deposited by a T-shape filtered arc deposition (T-FAD) apparatus, applying bias voltage to the plasma transportation duct which filters the macrodroplet emitted from the cathode, in order to obtain a higher deposition rate. Ion current, deposition rate, discharge voltage, duct current, and anode current were measured as a function of duct bias. The anode current decreased and the duct current increased when a positive bias was applied to the duct. This fact indicates that the T-shape duct acted as another anode of the vacuum arc discharge. It was found that the maximum deposition rate as well as the ion current was obtained at about 15 V of duct bias. Improvement in plasma transportation to the process chamber through the duct was considered from the viewpoint of the characteristics of duct current against bias voltage. The value of the optimum duct bias was the same as the intersection point of the characteristics of duct current against bias voltage.  相似文献
