This paper presents two-step design methodologies and performance analyses of finite-impulse response (FIR), allpass, and infinite-impulse response (IIR) variable fractional delay (VFD) digital filters. In the first step, a set of fractional delay (FD) filters are designed. In the second step, these FD filter coefficients are approximated by polynomial functions of FD. The FIR FD filter design problem is formulated in the peak-constrained weighted least-squares (PCWLS) sense and solved by the projected least-squares (PLS) algorithm. For the allpass and IIR FD filters, the design problem is nonconvex and a global solution is difficult to obtain. The allpass FD filters are directly designed as a linearly constrained quadratic programming problem and solved using the PLS algorithm. For IIR FD filters, the fixed denominator is obtained by model reduction of a time-domain average FIR filter. The remaining numerators of the IIR FD filters are designed by solving linear equations derived from the orthogonality principle. Analyses on the relative performances indicate that the IIR VFD filter with a low-order fixed denominator offers a combination of the following desirable properties including small number of denominator coefficients, lowest group delay, easily achievable stable design, avoidance of transients due to nonvariable denominator coefficients, and good overall magnitude and group delay performances especially for high passband cutoff frequency ( ges 0.9pi) . Filter examples covering three adjacent ranges of wideband cutoff frequencies [0.95, 0.925, 0.9], [0.875, 0.85, 0.825], and [0.8, 0.775, 0.75] are given to illustrate the design methodologies and the relative performances of the proposed methods.  相似文献

In designing two-dimensional (2-D) digital filters in the frequency domain, an efficient technique is to first decompose the given 2-D frequency domain design specifications into one-dimensional (1-D) ones, and then approximate the resulting 1-D magnitude specifications using the well-developed 1-D filter design techniques. Finally, by interconnecting the designed 1-D filters one can obtain a 2-D digital filter. However, since the magnitude responses of digital filters must be nonnegative, it is required that the decomposition of 2-D magnitude specifications result in nonnegative 1-D magnitude specifications. We call such a decomposition the nonnegative decomposition. This paper proposes a nonnegative decomposition method for decomposing the given 2-D magnitude specifications into 1-D ones, and then transforms the problem of designing a 2-D digital filter into that of designing 1-D filters. Consequently, the original problem of designing a 2-D filter is significantly simplified.  相似文献

This paper presents a method for the frequency-domain design of digital finite impulse response filters with arbitrary magnitude and group delay responses. The method can deal with both the equiripple design problem and the peak constrained least squares (PCLS) design problem. Consequently, the method can also be applied to the equiripple passbands and PCLS stopbands design problem as a special case of the PCLS design. Both the equiripple and the PCLS design problems are converted into weighted least squares optimization problems. They are then solved iteratively with appropriately updated error weighting functions. A novel scheme for updating the error weighting function is developed to incorporate the design requirements. Design examples are included in order to compare the performance of the filters designed using the proposed scheme and several other existing methods.  相似文献

Digital integrator design using Simpson rule and fractional delay filter   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The IIR digital integrator is designed by using the Simpson integration rule and fractional delay filter. To improve the design accuracy of a conventional Simpson IIR integrator at high frequency, the sampling interval is reduced from T to 0.5T. As a result, a fractional delay filter needed to be designed in the proposed Simpson integrator. However, this problem can be solved easily by applying well-documented design techniques of the FIR and all-pass fractional delay filters. Several design examples are illustrated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

This paper presents a new direct design of infinite-impulse response (IIR) filters with a flat magnitude response in both passband and stopband (Butterworth filters). The design specifications are passband and stopband frequencies and passband droop and stopband attenuation. The approach is based on an allpass filter with flatness at frequency points /spl omega/=0 and /spl omega/=/spl pi/. Depending on the parity of the IIR filter order, the allpass filter is either real or complex. However, in both cases, the resulting IIR filter is real.  相似文献

This paper considers multidimensional infinite-impulse response (IIR) filters that are iteratively implemented. The focus is on zero-phase filters with symmetric polynomials in the numerator and denominator of the multivariable transfer function. A rigorous optimization-based design of the filter is considered. Transfer function magnitude specifications, convergence speed requirements for the iterative implementation, and spatial decay of the filter impulse response (which defines the boundary condition influence in the spatial domain of the filtered signal) are all formulated as optimization constraints. When the denominator of the zero-phase IIR filter is strictly positive, these frequency domain specifications can be cast as a linear program and then efficiently solved. The method is illustrated with two two-dimensional IIR filter design examples.  相似文献

It is well known that IIR digital filters require quite fewer computations, comparedwith FIR filters,in order to meet stringent magnitude specifications when the phase distortioncan be tolerated. An approximately linear phase, however, can be also obtained with the IIRfilter by making use of a technique without increasing the complexity.Based on a certain numberof attenuation zeros in the pass band,a new approach is developed for the design of polyphasewave digital filters with exact magnitude responses and Chebyshev approximation of the desiredphase responses. The minimum number of attenuation zeros is estimated, and some examples areincluded.  相似文献

Fractional delay (FD) filters are an important class of digital filters and are useful in various signal processing applications. This paper discusses a design problem of FD infinite-impulse-response (IIR) filters with the maxflat frequency response in frequency domain. First, a flatness condition of FD filters at an arbitrarily specified frequency point is described, and then a system of linear equations is derived from the flatness condition. Therefore, a set of filter coefficients can be easily obtained by solving this system of linear equations. For a special case in which the frequency response is required to be maxflat at omega = 0 or pi , a closed-form expression for its filter coefficients is derived by solving a linear system of Vandermonde equations. It is also shown that the existing maxflat FD finite-impulse-response (FIR) and IIR filters are special cases of the FD IIR filters proposed in this paper. Finally, some examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed filters.  相似文献

This paper presents a method for the frequency domain design of infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters. The proposed method designs filters approximating prescribed magnitude and phase responses. IIR filters of this kind can have approximately linear-phase responses in their passbands, or they can equalize magnitude and phase responses of given systems. In many cases, these filters can be implemented with less memory and with fewer computations per output sample than equivalent finite impulse response (FIR) digital filters. An important feature of the proposed method is the possibility to specify a maximum radius for the poles of the designed rational transfer function. Consequently, stability can be guaranteed, and undesired effects of implementations using fixed-point arithmetic can be alleviated by restricting the poles to keep a prescribed distance from the unit circle. This is achieved by applying Rouche's theorem in the proposed design algorithm. We motivate the use of IIR filters with an unequal number of poles and zeros outside the origin of the complex plane. In order to satisfy simultaneous specifications on magnitude and phase responses, it is advantageous to use IIR filters with only a few poles outside the origin of the z-plane and an arbitrary number of zeros. Filters of this type are a compromise between IIR filters with optimum magnitude responses and phase-approximating FIR filters. We use design examples to compare filters designed by the proposed method to those obtained by other methods. In addition, we compare the proposed general IIR filters with other popular more specialized structures such as FIR filters and cascaded systems consisting of frequency-selective IIR filters and phase-equalizing allpass filters  相似文献

A new procedure for the design of a real doubly complementary (DC) pair of digital filters obtained from an all-pass structure is presented. The filter design is based on a zero-phase FIR filter design with multi-band frequency specifications and approximate linear-phase characteristic. The resulting complex or real all-pass filter structure is guaranteed to be stable. Some examples illustrating the design method including comparisons with conventional approximately linear phase IIR filters are also shown  相似文献

The design of two-channel linear-phase quadrature mirror filter (QMF) banks constructed by real infinite impulse response (IIR) digital all-pass filters is considered. The design problem is appropriately formulated to result in a simple optimisation problem. Using a variant of Karmarkar's algorithm, the optimisation problem can be efficiently solved through a frequency sampling and iterative approximation method to find the real coefficients for the IIR digital all-pass filters. The resulting two-channel QMF banks possess an approximately linear phase response without magnitude distortion. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is achieved by forming an appropriate Chebyshev approximation of the desired phase response and then finding its solution from a linear subspace in a few iterations. Finally, several simulation examples are presented for illustration and comparison  相似文献

A technique for realizing linear phase IIR filters   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A real-time IIR filter structure is presented that possesses exact phase linearity with 10~1000 times fewer general multiplies than conventional FIR filters of similar performance and better magnitude characteristics than equiripple or maximally flat group delay IIR filters. This structure is based on a technique using local time reversal and single pass sectioned convolution methods to realized a real-time recursive implementation of the noncausal transfer function H(z-1). The time reversed section technique used to realize exactly linear phase IIR filters is described. The effects of finite section length on the sectional convolution are analyzed. A simulation methodology is developed to address the special requirements of simulating a time reversed section filter. A design example is presented, with computer simulation to illustrate performance, in terms of overall magnitude response and phase linearity, as a function of finite section length. Nine example filter specifications are used to compare the performance and complexity of the time reversed section technique to those of a direct FIR implementation  相似文献

In this paper, the least p-power error criterion is presented to design digital infinite impulse response (IIR) filters to have an arbitrarily prescribed frequency response. First, an iterative quadratic programming (QP) method is used to design a stable unconstrained one-dimensional IIR filter whose optimal filter coefficients are obtained by solving the QP problem in each iteration. Then, the proposed method is extended to design constrained IIR filters and two-dimensional IIR filters with a separable denominator polynomial. Finally, design examples of the low-pass filter are demonstrated to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed iterative QP method.  相似文献

In this paper, the closed-form design of half-sample delay infinite-impulse response (IIR) filter is presented. First, the continued fraction expansion (CFE) and its recursive computation are reviewed briefly. Then, the CFE of square root function is applied to design half-sample delay IIR filters with various orders. The comparisons with conventional maximally flat half-sample delay all-pass and Lagrange filters are made and implementation issue is also addressed. Next, the designed half-sample delay filter is used to reduce the approximation error of the conventional IIR Simpson integrator, to design half-band and diamond shaped filters, and to magnify the digital image. Finally, several numerical examples are illustrated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method  相似文献

Generalized digital Butterworth filter design   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This correspondence introduces a new class of infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters that unifies the classical digital Butterworth filter and the well-known maximally flat FIR filter. New closed-form expressions are provided, and a straightforward design technique is described. The new IIR digital filters have more zeros than poles (away from the origin), and their (monotonic) square magnitude frequency responses are maximally flat at ω=0 and at ω=π. Another result of the correspondence is that for a specified cutoff frequency and a specified number of zeros, there is only one valid way in which to split the zeros between z=-1 and the passband. This technique also permits continuous variation of the cutoff frequency. IIR filters having more zeros than poles are of interest because often, to obtain a good tradeoff between performance and implementation complexity, just a few poles are best  相似文献

This paper proposes a straightforward method for designing variable digital filters with arbitrary variable magnitude as well as arbitrary fixed-phase or variable fractional delay (VFD) responses. The basic idea is to avoid the complicated direct design of one-dimensional (1-D) variable digital filters by decomposing the original variable filter design problem into easier subproblems that only require constant 1-D filter designs and multidimensional polynomial approximations. Through constant 1-D filter designs and multidimensional polynomial fits, we can easily obtain a variable digital filter satisfying the given variable design specifications. To decompose the original variable filter design into constant 1-D filter designs and multidimensional polynomial fits, a new multidimensional complex array decomposition called vector array decomposition (VAD) is proposed, which is based on two new theorems using the singular value decomposition (SVD). Once the VAD is obtained, the subproblems can be easily solved. Furthermore, we show that the VAD can also be generalized to the weighted least squares (WLS) case (WLS-VAD) for the WLS variable filter design. Three design examples are given to illustrate that the WLS-VAD and VAD-based techniques are considerably efficient for designing variable digital filters with arbitrary variable magnitude and arbitrary fixed-phase or VFD responses.  相似文献
