In this paper, we analyze the effects of a nonlinear amplifier on the performance of convolutionally coded multicarrier spread-spectrum systems in the presence of multipath fading. Two performance measures, bit-error rate (BER) and adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) are considered to assess the effects of in-band interference and out-of-band interference (spectral regrowth) from the nonlinear amplifier, respectively. A memoryless polynomial model is used to represent the bandpass amplifier amplitude nonlinearities (AM/AM) and a slow frequency-nonselective Rayleigh fading channel is assumed for each modulated carrier. Analytical results for the BER for uncoded systems and upper bounds on the BER for coded systems are presented. The optimum amplifier output power backoffs for both systems, which yield the smallest system power consumption, are also determined. The nonlinear bit-error-rate (BER) performance of dense optical wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) Manhattan Street Networks with deflection routing was evaluated using an extendable semianalytical process. The results show that nonlinear effects impose significant performance penalties on dense WDM networks, both in terms of maximum hops attainable and average BER, and should be taken into account when modeling such networks. Simple techniques such as optimal amplifier positioning can reduce the nonlinear penalties.  相似文献

The error vector magnitude (EVM) is extensively applied as a metric for digital transmitter signal quality compliance in modern communication systems. This article is focused on the effects of local oscillator (LO) phase noise and nonlinear distortion of power amplifier on EVM. This article contributes to below aspects. First, the relationships between EVM and two effects, LO phase noise and nonlinear distortion of power amplifier, are derived and expressed. Second, to simplify the expression, the third-order intermodulation distortion (IMD3) is used to calculate the EVM. Then, an expression for the EVM is derived based on the digital transmitter model that considers local oscillator phase noise and nonlinear distortion of power amplifier. Finally, the math formula of bit error rate (BER) versus EVM is given which can be easier and more useful to predict BER, according to analysis of the relationship between EVM and signal to noise rate (SNR), inspired by the works of Rishad, Md. Shahriar and AHM, 2006. Simulations are carried out to display the performance of EVM based on these relationships.  相似文献

正交频分复用(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing,OFDM)系统的主要缺点之一就是有较高的峰均功率比(Peak to Average Power Ratio,PAPR),降低了功率放大器(High Power Amplifier,HPA)的工作效率,同时HPA引入的非线性失真,恶化了系统的误比特率(Bite Error Rate,BER)性能.本文所提算法将限幅和HPA引入的非线性失真视为一个整体来考虑,利用与限幅噪声在时域上的近似稀疏性,对整个非线性过程进行建模.发送端通过限幅降低了OFDM信号的PAPR,在接收端,选取受噪声干扰小的可靠性观测向量,最小化信道噪声的影响,基于非线性模型计算得到的参数,利用压缩感知(Compressive Sensing,CS)算法能有效地恢复总的非线性失真信号,提升了系统的BER性能.  相似文献

The activities of the current European RACE and ACTS projects have led to an increasing interest in OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) as a means of combating impulsive noise and multipath effects and making fuller use of the available bandwidth of the system. This paper analyses the performance of OFDM signals in amplifier nonlinearity. In particular, bit error rate (BER) degradation as a result of amplitude limiting or clipping are analysed. In the presence of both nonlinear distortion and additive Gaussian noise, optimized output power back off is provided to balance the requirements of minimum BER and power amplifier efficiency. The recently introduced impulse postfix OFDM (IP-OFDM) system, which performs channel estimation in time-domain by exploiting the IP instead of pilot tones, can achieve the enhanced bit error rate (BER) performance compared to that of conventional OFDM systems. Since there is a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) issue of using the IP, however, the decision criteria for determining the power boosting factor (PBF) of IP were proposed to resolve the PAPR issue while achieving the optimum BER performance in the IP-OFDM system with an ideal high power amplifier (HPA). In this paper, a practical IP-OFDM system with a nonlinear HPA is considered and the impact of nonlinear HPA on the determination of the PBF of IP as well as the BER performance are analyzed. The BER lower bound is also derived in the case of QPSK and 16QAM. It is shown that the approximated lower bound approaches to the simulation results as the PBF is increased. According to the analytical results, due to the nonlinearity of the HPA, 1–3dB increased PBF than the ideal PBF is required to achieve the optimum BER performance, which is even deteriorated compared to that of IP-OFDM with an ideal soft envelope limiter.  相似文献

Four-wave-mixing based on ultrafast nonlinear gain dynamics in a semiconductor laser amplifier was applied for wavelength conversion of a 10-channel OFDM signal with a channel spacing of 9 GHz and a modulation rate of 140 Mb/s per channel. We have developed a second-order small-signal model for describing the nonlinear redistribution of noise in a saturated semiconductor optical amplifier. In this paper, the details of the model are presented. A numerical example is used to compare the model to statistical simulations. We show that the proper inclusion of second-order noise terms is required for describing the change in the skewness (third-order moment) of the noise distributions. The calculated probability density functions are described far out in the tails and can hence describe signals with very low bit error rate (BER). The work is relevant for describing the noise distribution and BER in, for example, optical regeneration.  相似文献

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexed signals typically exhibit large dynamic ranges due to superposition of a large number of subcarrier signals. As a result, such signals are highly vulnerable to distortion caused by high power amplifier (HPA) nonlinearity, leading to degradation in bit error rate (BER). In turn, the HPA operating point should be backed off to compensate for such degradation at the expense of the HPA efficiency. In this paper, the considered amplifier chain is a solid state power amplifier of Rapp’s model. We develop the factors contributing to BER degradation in terms of the input back-off (IBO) level assuming quadrature phase shift keying modulation. Consequently, the BER performance for such an amplifier model is developed as a function in IBO. Then, we show how this developed performance can be used to determine the required HPA operating point to achieve a certain required BER. Accordingly, an improvement in the amplifier efficiency is achieved. All developed analytic expressions are compared against simulation measurements, which show that good agreement exists.  相似文献

We describe the first wide-band tellurite-based fiber Raman amplifier (T-FRA) for application to seamless ultra-large-capacity dense wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) systems. First, we confirmed that the Raman scattering characteristics of the tellurite-based fiber has so large a gain coefficient and Stokes shift that we can achieve a wide-band tellurite-based fiber Raman amplifier with a shorter fiber length than when using silica-based fiber. Second, we investigated the small signal gain and the signal transmission characteristics for a high gain and high output power operation with a single-stage amplifier. Focusing on double Rayleigh scattering, we compared the high gain limit of tellurite- and silica-based fibers. We then studied the impact of nonlinear effects by measuring the bit error rate (BER) when using a two-stage amplifier with a high output power of 18.8 dBm in which we simultaneously amplified eight channel signals in the L-band located on the ITU 100-GHz grid. Finally, we designed a wide-band tellurite-based fiber Raman amplifier with a multiwavelength band pumping scheme. We constructed this amplifier with a tellurite-based fiber only 250 m in length pumped by four-wavelength-channel laser diodes, and it provided a 160-nm bandwidth with a gain of over 10 dB and a noise figure below 10 dB from 1490 to 1650 nm. We also measured the BER to confirm the transmission characteristics of the amplifier for single channel operation over the whole signal wavelength range of 160 nm. We thus confirmed that the amplifier could be employed in ultra-high-capacity WDM systems.  相似文献

正交频分复用(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing,OFDM)信号具有较高的峰均功率比(Peak to Average Power Ratio,PAPR),不仅影响功率放大器(High Power Amplifier,HPA)的工作效率,而且HPA使得OFDM信号产生严重的非线性失真,导致系统的误比特率(Bite Error Rate,BER)增大.本文基于限幅和压缩感知(Compressive Sensing,CS)提出了改进的补偿算法,发送端采用限幅降低信号的PAPR,接收端首先采用改进的逆模型方式减小HPA引入的非线性失真,再采用CS抵消由限幅引入的信号失真.仿真表明,所提方法不仅明显降低了OFDM信号的PAPR,而且有效提高了系统的BER性能.  相似文献

This article analyzes the nonlinear phase noise caused by an amplified spontaneous-emission of erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier and self-phase modulation (SPM) in a differential phase-shift keying modulation- balanced direct detection optical fiber communication system. Using numerical methods, the characteristic function of the differential nonlinear phase noise cos(Dj){\cos (\Delta \varphi)} in the received electrical current of signals and the accurate computation formula of the BER are achieved when SPM is dominant comparing to cross phase modulation and four wave mixing. The result is verified by a simulation of a 40-Gbit/s transmission system.  相似文献

An all-optical signal processor based on the self-wavelength conversion of Raman solitons is described. The processor consists of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA), a highly nonlinear fiber, and an optical bandpass filter. The timing-jitter-free demultiplexing of the processor was demonstrated by an 80-km transmission experiment. Error-free bit error rate (BER) performance was achieved. Transmitted fourfold optical time-division multiplexing (OTDM) signals with a large timing jitter of about 16 ps for an OTDM signal interval of 25 ps were demultiplexed to 9.95-Gb/s signals without signal degradation.  相似文献

In this paper, we show both theoretically and experimentally that the probability density function of the intensity of an amplified signal by parametric amplifiers subject to a pump with excess noise is highly asymmetric. This is due to the nonlinear relationship between the optical pump power and the parametric gain. Because of this, the relationship between the noise figure (NF) and the bit error rate (BER) is modified, compared with that predicted by the chi2 theory, which is an effect that is notable at large NFs and low BERs. The difference in predicted BER can be of several orders of magnitudes between the correct theory and the chi2 approximation in single-stage parametric amplifiers. We also show that in the limit of many cascaded parametric amplifiers, the statistics of the noise of an amplified optical signal approaches chi2. Furthermore, the BER of a parametric amplifier is generally lower compared with erbium-doped fiber amplifiers for the same NF values if we assume quantum-limited amplification  相似文献

In this article, analysis of a linearised travelling tube amplifier (TWT) using multi-tone signal under the digital modulation schemes is presented. The pre-distortion lineariser circuit based on the Schottky diodes is used to compensate for the nonlinear behaviour of the TWT amplifier in the noisy channel. The stability of the TWTA in combination with the lineariser has also been investigated through simulations. The 4-QAM and QPSK modulators are utilised and applied before linearised TWTA and capture results. The data passing through the linearised TWTA is analysed by using advanced design system (ADS). Constellation and eye diagrams are obtained from different modulation schemes and compared with each other in the same environment. Finally, the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the system is evaluated using Monte Carlo estimation for three different values of input-back-off (IBO). It is shown that the performance is improved by applying the proposed signal pre-distortion lineariser.  相似文献

Orthogonal frequency division modulation (OFDM) system is very useful for the multi-path channel and highly bandwidth-efficient system. However, OFDM signal shows the high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) so that nonlinear distortion can happen in the high power amplifier (HPA). This paper studies BER performance variation according to input back off (IBO) values when the predistorter is used for the compensation for the HPA nonlinearity. In the case of the solid state power amplifier (SSPA) of nonlinearity parameter p=0.5 and IBO=0 dB, the system with predistorter is poorer than the one without predistorter. But this situation is inverted, if IBO is increased from 0 dB to 3 dB. So, we can find that there is a threshold value of IBO for the predistorter to effectively compensate for the nonlinear SSPA when the sub-carrier number and p value are changed. This threshold IBO value is proportional to the nonlinearity parameter p value but it is nearly independent of the sub-carrier number because amplitude and distribution are normalized. The OFDM system with predistorter can be improved only when thee IBO value is higher than the threshold value.  相似文献
