空间相干光通信中接收天线像差会使光外差效率下降.对本振光为高斯分布,信号光为爱里斑分布的光外差效率进行了研究,给出了无像差时外差效率的解析表达式.当焦平面上爱里斑半径与本振高斯光束光腰半径之比为1.71时,有最大外差效率81.45%.然后以本振光为理想的高斯光束,信号光受像差的影响,研究了倾斜、离焦、球差、彗差、像散等像差引起的光外差效率损失,给出了存在像差时外差效率的一维积分表达式.研究表明即使在采用离焦校正后,一个波长的球差引起的附加外差效率损失仍可达0.9 dB.因此对于爱里斑位于光轴上的接收天线,在设计时需仔细处理球差的影响.  相似文献

为了研究光纤与宽波导光栅的有效耦合,基于高斯光束与波导光栅的光耦合理论,以30μm宽波导光栅为研究对象,利用矩阵光学和高斯光束理论分析和设计了一种扩束光纤,并通过分析其耦合损耗,建立了扩束光纤与波导光栅耦合模型.优化所设计扩束光纤的结构参数后,得到束腰半径为10.8μm的输出光束.最后分析了扩束光纤的结构容差,并讨论了所设计扩束光纤的输出光束、单模光纤的输出光束以及束腰半径为16 μm的自由空间高斯光束各自在光栅表面的位置变化对光栅耦合效率的影响.可知扩束光纤输出的光束与单模光纤输出的光束相比具有较大的位置容差,与束腰半径为16 μm的自由空间高斯光束相比,光耦合效率基本相同.  相似文献

The average bit error rate (BER) of optical communication systems is considered in the presence of random angular jitter. First, the received power and the BER in the absence of jitter are reviewed. Then the average BER is obtained in the presence of circularly symmetric, normally distributed jitter by using the probability density function of the optical signal. By minimizing the power penalty for average BER, the optimum ratio of the divergence angle of the laser beam to the random angular jitter at the desired BER is obtained. An analytic approximation of the optimum ratio is derived as a function of the desired average BER. The results can be used for designing the link budget of optical communication and tracking channels in the presence of jitter.  相似文献

We present a new semiellipsoid microlens fabrication method that controls the printing gap in the UV lithography process without thermal reflow. The UV proximity printing method can precisely control the curvature radius ratio of the semiellipsoid microlens in the fabrication process. The proposed fabrication method facilitates mass production to achieve a high-yield and high-coupling semiellipsoid microlens that is suitable to be used in commercial fiber transmission systems. A semiellipsoid microlens can be tipped on a single-mode fiber end to improve power coupling efficiency from laser diodes. The semiellipsoid microlens allows increasing the fiber spot size and numerical aperture. It is very important to control the geometric parameters in the assembly procedure to increase the optical coupling efficiency between the laser diode and single-mode fiber. Wide misalignment tolerance, low loss, and low manufacturing cost could be achieved by the proposed fabrication method. The theoretical model is first developed to predict the optical coupling efficiency for various microstructure geometries of semiellipsoid microlens and assembly parameters in this study. Then, the Taguchi method is applied to obtain the optimal geometric parameters setting. The results show that optical coupling efficiency could be significantly improved by using the optimal geometric parameters setting.  相似文献

Superresolution performance of a plano-convex lens made of absorbing glass is analyzed numerically. It was found that a reduction of the radius of the Airy disk depends solely on the center transmittance of the lens (a zero edge thickness is assumed) for any reasonable ratio of radius of curvature of the convex surface and the lens radius. The modest decrease in the size of the central diffraction peak is followed by a large decrease of its energy content and a rapid brightening of the diffraction rings. The most that can be achieved with such a lens is a reduction of the radius of the Airy disk to 71% of the corresponding clear aperture value, followed by approximately 78% of the energy being diverted into diffraction rings.  相似文献

If a single optical fiber is used for both delivery and collection of light, two major factors affect the measurement of collected light: (1) the light transport in the medium that describes the amount of light that returns to the fiber and (2) the light coupling to the optical fiber that depends on the angular distribution of photons entering the fiber. We focus on the importance of the latter factor and describe how the efficiency of the coupling depends on the optical properties of the medium. For highly scattering tissues, the efficiency is well predicted by the numerical aperture (NA) of the fiber. For lower scattering, such as in soft tissues, photons arrive at the fiber from deeper depths, and the coupling efficiency could increase twofold to threefold above that predicted by the NA.  相似文献

The quality and parameters of probing optical beams are extremely important in biomedical imaging systems both for image quality and light coupling efficiency considerations. For example, the shape, size, focal position, and focal range of such beams could have a great impact on the lateral resolution, penetration depth, and signal-to-noise ratio of the image in optical coherence tomography. We present a beam profile characterization of different variations of graded-index (GRIN) fiber lenses, which were recently proposed for biomedical imaging probes. Those GRIN lens modules are made of a single mode fiber and a GRIN fiber lens with or without a fiber spacer between them. We discuss theoretical analysis methods, fabrication techniques, and measured performance compared with theory.  相似文献

In this paper we present a simple and novel method to maximize on-axis coupling efficiency to radially symmetric fibers without the need for extra free space optical elements. The method is based on inserting a segment of step-index multimode fiber (MMF), cleaved to a particular length, between the input fiber and the output fiber (OF). The MMF segment modifies the input field to match the guided modes in the OF. Using this technique we show that, by inserting an appropriate length MMF segment, it is theoretically possible to obtain a coupling coefficient as high as ?0.8 dB between a single mode fiber and a graded index ring-shaped fiber and ?0.32 dB for a multi-shell fiber. Our experimental measurements showed good agreement with theoretical predictions for the ring fiber.  相似文献

近年来,超稳光生微波和远距离时频同步等高精度、高速科学研究对低噪声飞秒光纤激光器具有迫切的需求。为实现低时间抖动噪声的激光种子源,基于“光积木”结构,设计并搭建了一台重复频率为100 MHz的全保偏掺铒锁模光纤激光器,“光积木”结构可以有效地抑制激光器的机械噪声和重频漂移。采用平衡光学互相关技术,首次从全保偏锁模光纤激光器的出射脉冲中直接进行了高精度的时间抖动测量。该激光器在傅里叶频率10 kHz至1 MHz的积分区间内,积分均方根时间抖动仅为98.36 as。  相似文献

The processes of surface plasmon resonance excitation in a bent single-mode optical fiber with a metallized cladding have been studied experimentally. It is shown that, for a certain combination of the bending radius of an optical fiber and the thickness of a metal film, a strong coupling between the fundamental and plasmon–polariton mode is achieved through a whispering gallery mode supported by the fiber cladding, which leads to the formation of a resonance dip with a depth of ~30 dB or more in the transmission spectrum of an optical fiber loop. The position of the dip depends strongly on the ambient refractive index, which provides the possibility of refractometric measurements with a spectral sensitivity of ~5 μm/RIU and a resolution of ~4 × 10–6. Limits of measurement of the refractive index are determined by the operating spectral range and the bending radius of the optical fiber and are 1.42–1.44 for the setup used.  相似文献

The optical trap detector is based on two, 1 cm x 1 cm silicon photodiodes and a spherical mirror contained in a package that is highly efficient for measuring light diverging from the end of an optical fiber. The mathematical derivation of the coupling efficiency relies on the integral directional response weighted by the angular intensity distribution of an idealized parabolic optical beam. Results of directional-uniformity measurements, acquired with the aid of a six-axis industrial robotic arm, indicate that the trap has a collection efficiency greater than 99.9% for a fiber numerical aperture of 0.24. Spatial uniformity measurements indicate that the variation of detector response as a function of position is less than 0.1%. The detector's absolute responsivity at 672.3, 851.7, and 986.1 nm is also documented by comparison with other optical detectors and various input conditions and indicates that the design is well suited for laser and optical fiber power measurements.  相似文献

We introduce an anamorphic photonic crystal fiber (PCF) produced by postprocessing techniques to improve the coupling loss between a conventional single-mode fiber and rectangular microwaveguide. One end of the round core is connected with the conventional fiber, and the other end of the rectangular core is connected with the rectangular microwaveguide, then the PCF is tapered pro rata. In this way, the loss of mode mismatch between the output of the conventional fiber and the input of the waveguide would be reduced, which results in enhanced coupling efficiency. The conclusion was confirmed by numerical simulation: the new method is better than straight coupling between the optical fiber and the rectangular microwaveguide, and more than 2.8 dB improvement of coupling efficiency is achieved.  相似文献

In this article, the statistics of fracture response in terms of the mean and coefficient of variation of mixed mode stress intensity factor (SIF) of an isotropic plate with hole emanating radial cracks and crack growth subjected to in-plane mechanical tensile, shear, and combined loading is evaluated. The random system parameters, such as normalized crack length, crack angle, and normalized radius of hole, are assumed as uncorrelated random variables. The basic formulation is based on the extended finite-element method with level set method combined with second-order perturbation method. The effects of the normalized radius of the hole, normalized crack length, crack angles, different positions of the hole with cracks, and in-plane loadings on the statistics of mixed mode SIF with input random system parameters are analyzed.  相似文献

Planar waveguide-grating couplers are analyzed to determine the effects of grating length, the incident beam size, and the coupling length of the grating on the input-coupling efficiency. The emphasis is to examine the effects of these finite lengths on the range of angles over which input coupling occurs and the shape of the efficiency curve. A general formula for normalized input-coupling efficiency is given to relate these lengths. When any one of these characteristic lengths is much smaller than the other two, both the angular width and angular dependence of the coupling efficiency for a scan of the incident beam angle will be mainly determined by that characteristic length. This is demonstrated experimentally for two cases: one has a relatively short grating length, and the other has a short coupling length.  相似文献

Intra-arterial measurements of the velocity and the average flow of red-blood cells were investigated by means of a fiber-coupled laser Doppler velocimeter based on the self-mixing effect. The velocity of the red cells was calculated from the frequency of the signal that occurs when light, scattered back from a moving object in front of a fiber into a laser-diode cavity, interferes with the laser cavity's proper mode. These fluctuations occur at the Doppler frequency. The signal was obtained from the photodiode that is present in the laser diode's housing. Temperature control and stabilization of the diode cavity were introduced to reduce the light-intensity fluctuation that is due to mode hopping of the diode. The velocimeter was calibrated with a rotating disk covered with white paper (nonlinearity of 2.6% for velocities up to 0.4 m/s) and tested in vitro as a fluid velocimeter. The velocimeter was used in in vivo tests on the iliac artery of a 35-kg pig and on the arteria pulmonaris of a healthy calf. The optical fiber was placed in the iliac artery by a basket catheter 4 cm proximal to the bifurcation of the femoral artery. The average arterial blood flow velocity of the red cells were measured upstream and downstream. A special cleaving procedure for the fiber tip in downstream measurement is reported. Blood-velocity measurement is compared with values generated by an ultrasound flowmeter, and a difference of less than 9% is found.  相似文献

The relationships between laser communication system parameters and adaptive optics system parameters are addressed. Improvement in optical signal propagation between space-based receivers and ground-based transmitters is possible with adaptive optics systems that compensate for a few degrees of freedom. Beginning with the relationship between optical signal fade and surge and the atmospheric log-amplitude variance and coupling to expressions that combine adaptive optics systems performance with the reduction in log-amplitude variance, system level examinations of the effects of adaptive optics can be done. Examples are given that show the advantageous reduction in signal fade and surge when adaptive optics are built into the optical system.  相似文献

A strip-loaded waveguide, electro-optic modulator was designed and analyzed in terms of single mode conditions, optical loss due to the metal electrodes, modulation efficiency, and mode size. Two designs were compared: Design 1 optimized the half-wave voltage (V(π)=1.1 V) with a nearly symmetric waveguide by maximizing modulation efficiency and minimizing the overall thickness of the waveguide; Design 2 optimized the insertion loss by reducing coupling loss by 4.6 dB via a strongly asymmetric waveguide that maximizes the overall mode size to most efficiently overlap with a single mode fiber. Design 2 also has a favorable half-wave voltage (V(π)=1.75 V). Some general guidelines in the selection of cladding layers in a detailed design of a poled-polymer electro-optic modulator incorporating a strip-loaded waveguide structure are suggested.  相似文献

Using the power flow equation, the state of mode coupling in 100-400 μm core step-index silica optical fibers is investigated in this article. Results show the coupling length L(c) at which the equilibrium mode distribution is achieved and the length z(s) of the fiber required for achieving the steady-state mode distribution. Functional dependences of these lengths on the core radius and wavelength are also given. Results agree well with those obtained using a long-established calculation method. Since large core silica optical fibers are used at short distances (usually at lengths of up to 10 m), the light they transmit is at the stage of coupling that is far from the equilibrium and steady-state mode distributions.  相似文献

Binary wavefront control in the focal plane (i.e., binary phase-only filtering) for partial compensation of atmospheric turbulence in fiber-coupled free-space laser communication systems is investigated. Numerical results from wave-optics simulations show that in an air-to-air scenario, the combination of binary phase-only filtering and centroid tracking provides mean fiber coupling efficiency close to that resulting from ideal least-squares adaptive optics, but without the requirement for direct wavefront sensing. This result suggests a simpler and less computationally demanding turbulence mitigation system that is more readily applied to tactical applications.  相似文献
