Mixed-model assembly lines are widely used in a range of production settings, such as the final assembly of the automotive and electronics industries, where they are applied to mass-produce standardised commodities. One of the greatest challenges when installing and reconfiguring these lines is the vast product variety modern mixed-model assembly lines have to cope with. Traditionally, product variety is bypassed during mid-term assembly line balancing by applying a joint precedence graph, which represents an (artificial) average model and serves as the input data for a single model assembly line balancing procedure. However, this procedure might lead to considerable variations in the station times, so that serious sequencing problems emerge and work overload threatens. To avoid these difficulties, different extensions of assembly line balancing for workload smoothing, i.e. horizontal balancing, have been introduced in the literature. This paper presents a multitude of known and yet unknown objectives for workload smoothing and systematically tests these measures in a comprehensive computational study. The results suggest that workload smoothing is an essential task in mixed-model assembly lines and that some (of the newly introduced) objectives are superior to others.  相似文献

Growing interests from customers in customised products and increasing competitions among peers necessitate companies to configure their manufacturing systems more effectively than ever before. We propose a new assembly line system configuration for companies that need intelligent solutions to satisfy customised demands on time with existing resources. A mixed-model parallel two-sided assembly line system is introduced based on the parallel two-sided assembly line system previously proposed in the literature. The mixed-model parallel two-sided assembly line balancing problem is illustrated with examples from the perspective of simultaneous balancing and sequencing. An agent-based ant colony optimisation algorithm is proposed to solve the problem. This algorithm is the first attempt in the literature to solve an assembly line balancing problem with an agent-based ant colony optimisation approach. The algorithm is illustrated with an example and its operational procedures and principles are explained and discussed.  相似文献

U-type and two-sided assembly lines are two types of design having advantages over traditional straight assembly lines. In this paper, a new line design hybrid of U-type and two-sided lines is presented. A bi-objective 0-1 integer programming model is developed to solve the line balancing problem of the proposed design. Zoning constraints are also considered for the proposed design. A number of test problems from the literature with up to 65 tasks are solved. Benefits of two-sided U-type lines are discussed.  相似文献

The constant research for efficiency and flexibility has forced assembly systems to change from simple/single assembly lines to mixed model assembly lines, while the necessity to reduce inventory has led the transition from single to multi-line systems, where some components are assembled in secondary lines, called feeder lines, connected to the main one by a ‘pull philosophy’. A possible approach to configure such an assembly system is to balance the main line first and use the retrieved cycle time to balance each feeder line separately, which is a questionable solution, especially if operators can perform tasks on both the feeder and the main line. Moreover for its complexity the mixed model balancing problem is usually solved transforming it into a single model by creating a single ‘virtual average model’, representative of the whole production mix. The use of a virtual average model assumes that the processing times of some models are higher or lower than the cycle time, which creates overload/idle time at the stations. This approach, especially in complex multi line production systems, largely reduces the assembly line productivity and increases the buffers dimensions. This paper faces the mixed model assembly line balancing problem in the presence of multiple feeder lines, introducing an innovative integrated main-feeder lines balancing procedure in case of unpaced assembly systems. The proposed approach is compared with the classical one and validated through simulation and industrial applications.  相似文献

We describe the design and use of a computer program to balance two-sided assembly lines. The program embodies a balancing algorithm that emphasizes speed over accuracy for the interactive, rapid refinement of solutions. We argue that this is a more useful approach to balancing real assembly lines than the typical optimality-seeking techniques. We also discuss some theoretical properties of two-sided lines; and we include the data for a real assembly line, which to our knowledge is the first to appear in the open literature in over 30 years  相似文献

Notwithstanding the existence of a broad research base on assembly line balancing (ALB), companies do not use the mathematical approaches developed in the literature to configure assembly lines. This article aims to fill the gap between research and application by presenting and testing in a real industrial context a methodology based on complexity reduction and kaizen events. First, the methodology supports reducing the complexity that affects real-life assembly systems in terms of the variety of, e.g. finished products, materials and parts. Next, the methodology proposes the conduction of kaizen events by using lean manufacturing tools, such as process analysis, time observation, waste identification, workstation standard documents and yamazumi charts. The methodology is successfully applied to a case study that describes its use in the confectionery process for a major chocolatier company along with the results of the application. The main contribution of this paper consists in presenting a method to manage the line balancing activity within everyday industrial realities, helping practitioners to improve and maintain the performance over time.  相似文献

Assembly sequence planning (ASP) and assembly line balancing (ALB) play critical roles in designing product assembly systems. In view of the trend of concurrent engineering, pondering simultaneously over these two problems in the development of assembly systems is significant for establishing a manufacturing system. This paper contemplates the assembly tool change and the assembly direction as measurements in ASP; and further, Equal Piles assembly line strategy is adopted and the imbalanced status of the system employed as criteria for the evaluation concerning ALB. Focus of the paper is principally on proposing hybrid evolutionary multiple-objective algorithms (HEMOAs) for solutions with regard to integrate the evolutionary multi-objective optimization and grouping genetic algorithms. The results provide a set of objectives and amend Pareto-optimal solutions to benefit decision makers in the assembly plan. In addition, an implemented decision analytic model supports the preference selection from the Pareto-optimal ones. Finally, the exemplifications demonstrate the effectiveness and performance of the proposed algorithm. The consequences definitely illustrate that HEMOAs search out Pareto-optimal solutions effectively and contribute to references for the flexible change of assembly system design.  相似文献

In the past two decades, augmented reality(AR) has received a growing amount of attention by researchers in the manufacturing technology community, because AR can be applied to address a wide range of problems throughout the assembly phase in the lifecycle of a product, e.g., planning, design, ergonomics assessment, operation guidance and training. However, to the best of authors' knowledge, there has not been any comprehensive review of AR-based assembly systems. This paper aims to provide a concise overview of the technical features, characteristics and broad range of applications of ARbased assembly systems published between 1990 and 2015. Among these selected articles, two thirds of them were published between 2005 and 2015, and they are considered as recent pertinent works which will be discussed in detail. In addition, the current limitation factors and future trends in the development will also be discussed.  相似文献

Addressing the materials feeding principle of kitting, commonly applied in the materials supply to mass-customised assembly, the current paper has the purpose of exploring how the man-hour efficiency of kit preparation is affected by the design and the context of the kit preparation. The study presented in the paper is based on a comprehensive methodology, comprising several steps and considering a large set of qualitative as well as quantitative data from 15 case studies. It also utilises the expertise of practitioners from the industry. The paper provides a valuable addition to the existing literature where empirical evidence is scarce. From a practical perspective, it offers support to the design of man-hour efficient kit preparation systems. The findings show that the design and the context of the kit preparation system can have a decisive, yet complex, impact on the man-hour efficiency and, thereby, on an assessment of the applicability of kitting. The paper identifies several important aspects of both design and context and indicates how these aspects are linked to the man-hour efficiency of kit preparation.  相似文献

Cost analysis is crucial in the design of assembly systems and the decision on their level of automation (LoA). This paper presents a cost estimation model of assembly system that is used to decide their LoA during the early phase of projects. Based on an extensive literature review, a complete cost model integrating multiple cost drivers is proposed. This model is then exploited to create the objective function of an integer linear programme model utilised to solve the LoA decision problem. The work provides a way to perform cost estimation of assembly systems alternatives and to decide the most appropriate LoA in assembly. The cost estimation model is built with a parametric approach allowing the definition of various optimisation objectives. The proposed integer programme, complement this approach by proposing the suitable constraints set, that describes the LoA decision problem.  相似文献

Balancing mixed-model assembly lines to reduce work overload   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We propose a new line balancing approach for mixed-model assembly lines with an emphasis on how the assignment of tasks to stations affects the ability to construct daily sequences of jobs (customer orders) that provide stable workloads (in a minute-to-minute sense) on the assembly line, while also achieving reasonable workload balance among the stations. The issue of short-term workload stability has received little attention in the assembly line balancing literature. Such stability allows assembly workers to complete their tasks without being rushed and thereby contributes to product quality. We propose a new objective for assembly line balancing that helps to achieve better short-term workload stability and develop a heuristic solution procedure based on filtered beam search for this new objective. Computational results show that for small problems (which can be solved optimally), this approach provides near optimal solutions, and for larger problems, it provides significantly better results than traditional assembly line balancing methods.  相似文献

An emerging approach for design of dynamic materials involves mimicking natural systems, which are adept at changing their structure and function in response to their environment. Biological systems possess a diverse range of dynamic mechanisms, including competitive ligand–protein binding, enzyme‐catalyzed remodeling, and allosteric protein conformational changes. These dynamic mechanisms are now being exploited by materials scientists and engineers to design “bioinspired” synthetic materials that undergo responsive assembly and disassembly as well as dynamic volume and shape changes. The purpose of this review is to describe recent progress in design and development of bioinspired dynamic materials, with a particular emphasis on hydrogel networks. We specifically focus on emerging approaches that use biological phenomena as an inspiration for design of materials.  相似文献

Cities are incorporating smart and green infrastructure components in their urban design policies, adapting existing and new infrastructure systems to integrate technological advances to mitigate extreme weather due to climate change. Research has illustrated that smart green infrastructure (SGI) provides not only climate change resilience but also many health and wellbeing benefits that improve the quality of life of citizens. With the growing demand for smart technology, a series of problems and challenges, including governance, privacy, and security, must be addressed. This paper explores the potential to transition from grey, green, or smart silos to work with nature-based solutions and smart technology to help change cities to achieve considerable environmental and socio-economic benefits. The concepts of grey, green, and smart infrastructure are presented, and the needs, benefits, and applications are investigated. Moreover, the advantages of using integrated smart, green nature-based solutions are discussed. A comprehensive literature review is undertaken with keyword searches, including journal papers, stakeholder and case study reports, and local authority action plans. The methodology adopts multimethod qualitative information review, including literature, case studies, expert interviews, and documentary analysis. Published data and information are analysed to capture the key concepts in implementing SGI systems, such as storm-water control, flood and coastal defense, urban waste management, transportation, recreation, and asset management. The paper investigates the elimination of silo approaches and the alleviation of the destructions caused by extreme weather events using these interdependent SGI systems supported by novel data-driven platforms to provide nature-based solutions to boost the health and wellbeing of the residents.  相似文献

The paper presents a new simulated annealing (SA)-based algorithm for the assembly line-balancing problem with a U-type configuration. The proposed algorithm employs an intelligent mechanism to search a large solution space. U-type assembly systems are becoming increasingly popular in today's modern production environments since they are more general than the traditional assembly systems. In these systems, tasks are to be allocated into stations by moving forward and backward through the precedence diagram in contrast to a typical forward move in the traditional assembly systems. The performance of the algorithm is measured by solving a large number of benchmark problems available in the literature. The results of the computational experiments indicate that the proposed SA-based algorithm performs quite effectively. It also yields the optimal solution for most problem instances. Future research directions and a comprehensive bibliography are also provided here.  相似文献

Ergonomic aspects have a crucial role in manual assembly systems. They impact on the workers’ health, final product quality and productivity. For these reasons, there is the necessity to integrate them into the assembly line balancing phase as, whereas, only time and cost variables are considered. In this study, human energy expenditures are considered as ergonomic aspects and we integrate them, for the first time, into the assembly line balancing problem type 2 through the rest allowance evaluation. We consider as an objective function the minimization of the smoothness index. Firstly, a new optimal method based on mixed integer linear programming and a new linearization methodology are proposed. Then, a heuristic approach is introduced. To complete the study, a computational experimentation is presented to validate the mathematical model and to compare the methodologies proposed in terms of computational time, complexity and solution. Additionally, we provide a detailed analysis of the impact that rest allowance evaluation can have on productivity comparing the results obtained, taking into account the rest allowance integration before, during and after the assembly balancing process.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel stochastic two-sided U-type assembly line balancing (STUALB) procedure, an algorithm based on the genetic algorithm and a heuristic priority rule-based procedure to solve STUALB problem are proposed. With this new proposed assembly line design, all advantages of both two-sided assembly lines and U-type assembly lines are combined. Due to the variability of the real-life conditions, stochastic task times are also considered in the study. The proposed approach aims to minimise the number of positions (i.e. the U-type assembly line length) as the primary objective and to minimise the number of stations (i.e. the number of operators) as a secondary objective for a given cycle time. An example problem is solved to illustrate the proposed approach. In order to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, test problems taken from the literature are used. The experimental results show that the proposed approach performs well.  相似文献

The general assembly line balancing problem with setups (GALBPS) was recently defined in the literature. It adds sequence-dependent setup time considerations to the classical simple assembly line balancing problem (SALBP) as follows: whenever a task is assigned next to another at the same workstation, a setup time must be added to compute the global workstation time, thereby providing the task sequence inside each workstation. This paper proposes heuristic procedures, based on priority rules, for solving GALBPS, many of which are an improvement upon heuristic procedures published to date.  相似文献

This paper offers a review of the development and use of multi-agent modelling techniques and simulations in the context of manufacturing systems and supply chain management (SCM). The objective of the paper is twofold. First, it presents a comprehensive literature review of current multi-agent systems (MAS) research applications in the field of manufacturing systems and SCM. Second, it aims to identify and evaluate some key issues involved in using MAS methods to model and simulate manufacturing systems. A variety of different MAS applications are reviewed in three different classified research areas: production design and development, production planning and control, and SCM. In presenting a detailed taxonomy of MAS applications, the paper describes MAS application domains from five different perspectives. The review suggests the MAS approach represents a feasible framework for designing and analysing real-time manufacturing operations, since the approach is capable of modelling different levels of agent behaviour and dynamical interactions. The paper also highlights a number of key issues which have to be taken into account in attempting to design MAS-based research paradigms for future applications in manufacturing systems.  相似文献

Using Ant Techniques to Solve the Assembly Line Balancing Problem   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9  
This paper presents an approach, based on ant techniques, to effectively address the assembly line balancing problem with the complicating factors of parallel workstations, stochastic task durations, and mixed-models. A methodology was inspired by the behavior of social insects in an attempt to distribute tasks among workers so that strategic performance measures are optimized. This methodology is used to address several assembly line balancing problems from the literature. The assembly line layouts obtained from these solutions are used for simulated production runs so that output performance measures (such as cycle time performance) are obtained. Output performance measures resulting from this approach are compared to output performance measures obtained from several other heuristics, such as simulated annealing. A comparison shows that the ant approach is competitive with the other heuristic methods in terms of these performance measures.  相似文献

为有效解决带有顺序相关调整时间的双边装配线平衡问题,提出了一种简单高效的变邻域搜索算法。该算法通过将优先关系约束融入到交换、插入、交叉、变异等算子中,分别得到4个不同的邻域结构来保证搜索过程中解的可行性,避免过多重复邻域解的生成。4个邻域结构的搜索空间依次变大,以增强算法搜索能力。同时,结合装配线的特点,提出基于作业序列的编码和解码方式,在解码过程中,优先选择空闲时间较多的边,引入启发式目标加快算法收敛。分配结束后,对装配线末端的工作站组进行局部调整。通过将该算法先后用于求解无/有顺序相关调整时间的双边装配线平衡第一类问题,并与已有的算法进行对比,验证了所提的变邻域搜索算法的优越性和有效性。  相似文献
