Different torque meets specific compounding requirements

Co-rotating twin screw extruders from Maris feature a number of technological innovations. Maris' two production lines — TM-HT and TM-MW — have the same screw geometry but they have different specific torque. This means for the same screw speed, the TM-HT can offer an increase in productivity. High torque for use in the laboratory

Italian company Comac has introduced the EBC 25 AV-HT for use in the laboratory. The company says that the extruder's screws offer high torque — 90 Nm at three different screw speeds (600, 900 and 1200 rpm). The extruder has an adequate free volume for feeding with cutting teeth screw profiles, which makes it easier to feed blends with low apparent densities or large particles. RingExtruder boosts output without degradation

In addition to its CX range of twin screw extruders, Centruy Inc. offers its 3+ RingExtruder through a joint venture with Blach Verfahrentechnik GmbH. The design consists of 12 closely intermeshing co-rotating screws and is claimed to offer a unique alternative for increasing throughput without excessive shear or heat generation. The company adds that rather than relying on high screw speeds the 3+ RingExtruder can achieve higher throughput through increased torque and greater free volume. Century adds that melt flow analysis undertaken on samples produced on the 3+ show no appreciable material degradation. A series of RingExtruders ranging from 30-120 mm are available to meet most throughput requirements. Compounding based on thermokinetics

Draiswerke Inc. has developed the Gelimat^® compounding system, which uses a unique mixing and compounding technology based on thermokinetic principles. The high-speed process is designed to accommodate a number of process parameter changes during a brief 5–20 second cycle. Draiswerke says using thermokinetics makes the mixing and compounding process very efficient, reducing the compounding time to a matter of seconds. Compounded material is ejected automatically by an electronic temperature sensor through a discharge door, where it can be fed into a melt pump, a short barrel extruder, calendar, moulding system or other shaping device. The entire system is coupled to advanced process controls that allow the user to change any or all of the process parameters.
