将原位化学气相沉积法合成的碳纳米管(CNTs)与铝的复合粉末进行球磨混合,进而粉末冶金制备CNTs/Al复合材料,研究球磨工艺对复合材料的微观组织和力学性能的影响。结果表明:球磨过程中不添加过程控制剂所得到的复合材料力学性能优异;随着球磨时间的增加,CNTs逐步分散嵌入铝基体内部,复合材料的组织也变得更加致密均匀。CNTs/Al复合材料的硬度和抗拉强度均随球磨时间的延长持续增加,但是伸长率先增后减。经90min球磨的CNTs/Al复合材料展现了强韧兼备的特点,其硬度和抗拉强度较原始纯铝提高了1.4倍和1.7倍,并且具有17.9%的高伸长率。  相似文献

Aluminum (Al) matrix composite materials reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNT) and silicon carbide nanoparticles (nano-SiC) were fabricated by mechanical ball milling, followed by hot-pressing. Nano-SiC was used as an active mixing agent for dispersing the CNTs in the Al powder. The hardness of the produced composites was dramatically increased, up to eight times higher than bulk pure Al, by increasing the amount of nano-SiC particles. A small quantity of aluminum carbide (Al(4)C(3)) was observed by TEM analysis and quantified using x-ray diffraction. The composite with the highest hardness values contained some nanosized Al(4)C(3). Along with the CNT and the nano-SiC, Al(4)C(3) also seemed to play a role in the enhanced hardness of the composites. The high energy milling process seems to lead to a homogeneous dispersion of the high aspect ratio CNTs, and of the nearly spherical nano-SiC particles in the Al matrix. This powder metallurgical approach could also be applied to other nanoreinforced composites, such as ceramics or complex matrix materials.  相似文献

Functionally graded carbon nanotube (CNT)‐reinforced aluminum (Al) matrix composites have been successfully fabricated by a powder metallurgy route. The gradient layers containing different amounts of CNT additions showed different microstructures and hardness. Each layer demonstrated good adhesion, with no serious pores or microcracks. We controlled the characteristics of the bulk composite by the efficient design of each CNT gradient layer. The functionally graded material concept offers a feasible approach to fabricating Al‐CNT nanocomposites.  相似文献

Mechanical milling presents an effective solution in producing a homogenous structure for composites. The present study focused on the production of 0.5 wt% yttria nanoparticle reinforced 7075 aluminum alloy composite in order to examine the effects of yttria dispersion and interfacial bonding by ball milling technique. The 7075 aluminum alloy powders and yttria were mechanically alloyed with different milling times. The milled composites powders were then consolidated with the help of hot pressing. Hardness, density, and tensile tests were carried out for characterizing the mechanical properties of the composite. The milled powder and the microstructural evolution of the composites were analyzed utilizing scanning and transmission electron microscopy. A striking enhancement of 164% and 90% in hardness and ultimate tensile strength, respectively, were found compared with the reference 7075 aluminum alloy fabricated with the same producing history. The origins of the observed increase in hardness and strength were discussed within the strengthening mechanisms' framework.  相似文献

采用卧式高能球磨法制备0%~2%CNTs/Al5083(质量分数)复合材料,研究球磨时间和CNTs含量对复合材料性能的影响。采用扫描电镜(SEM)和透射电镜(TEM)对复合材料的形貌进行表征,测试复合材料的抗拉强度及硬度。结果表明:当球磨时间为1.5h时,CNTs可均匀分散在Al5083基体中;CNTs质量分数为1.5%时,CNTs/Al5083界面结合力最好,复合材料的抗拉强度和硬度分别为188.8MPa和136HV,比未加CNTs的Al5083合金基体分别提高了32.2%和36%。  相似文献

In this study, the effect of CNT amount in Al-CNT composites produced by adding carbon nanotube (CNT) to 7075 Al alloy in various amounts on microstructure and wear behaviors of aluminum matrix composites was investigated. CNT was added to 7075 Al alloy powder at five different amounts. The powders were mechanically milled for 2 hours. Mechanical milled powders were cold pressed and then pre-shaped by hot pressing. Pre-shaped samples were sintered for 1 hour under 10?6 millibar in 580°C. Microstructure examinations, hardness measurements, and wear tests were carried out. The results show that CNT's in the microstructure were agglomerated as nanotube amount increases and there was no uniform distribution. The highest hardness value was obtained in AMC reinforced with 1% CNT while it is seen that hardness of the composite decreases and weight loss increases as CNT amount increases.  相似文献

Carbon nanotube/silver (CNT/Ag) nanocomposites include CNT volume fraction up to 10?vol.% were prepared by chemical reduction in solution followed by spark plasma sintering. Multiwalled CNTs underwent surface modifications by acid treatments, the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy data indicated several functional groups loaded on the CNT surface by acid functionalisation. The acid-treated CNTs were sensitised and activated. Silver was deposited on the surface of the activated CNTs by chemical reduction of alkaline silver nitrate solution at room temperature. The microstructures of the prepared CNT/Ag nanocomposite powders were investigated by high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM), transmission electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction analysis. The results indicated that the produced CNT/Ag nanocomposite powders have coated type morphology. The produced CNT/Ag nanocomposite powders were sintered by spark plasma sintering. It was observed from the microstructure investigations of the sintered materials by HRSEM that the CNTs were distributed in the silver matrix with good homogeneity. The hardness and the tensile properties of the produced CNT/Ag nanocomposites were measured. By increasing the volume fraction of CNTs in the silver matrix, the hardness values increased but the elongation values of the prepared CNT/Ag nanocomposites decreased. In addition, the tensile strength was increased by increasing the CNTs volume fraction up to 7.5?vol.%, but the sample composed of 10?vol.% CNT/Ag was fractured before yielding.  相似文献

The Cu-W bulk nanocomposites of different compositions were successfully synthesized by high-energy ball milling of elemental powders. The nanocrystalline nature of the Cu-W composite powder is confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. The Cu-W nanocomposite powder could be sintered at 300-400 degrees C below the sintering temperature of the un-milled Cu-W powders. The Cu-W nanocomposites showed superior densification and hardness than that of un-milled Cu-W composites. The nanocomposites also have three times higher hardness to resistivity ratio in comparison to Oxygen free high conductivity copper.  相似文献

In carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced metal matrix composites (MMCs), the good dispersion of CNTs in the matrix as well as the processing problems are the major challenges inhibiting the development of these composites. In this study, well-dispersed CNTs reinforced aluminum (Al) matrix nanocomposite was fabricated by a novel Spread–Dispersion (SD) method. Specimens with ultra-fine grain size down to 20 nm were obtained. The tensile strength of the CNT nanocomposite was 66% greater than the base matrix with a minor decrease in ductility. Such enhancement was analyzed on the basis of segregation and uniform distribution of clustered CNTs, disappearance of the CNT-free zones, eliminated porosity, stronger Al/CNT bonding and the retention of CNT graphitic structure.  相似文献

We have increased the tensile strength without compromising the elongation of aluminum (Al)–carbon nanotube (CNT) composite by a combination of spark plasma sintering followed by hot-extrusion processes. From the microstructural viewpoint, the average thickness of the boundary layer with relatively low CNT incorporation has been observed by optical, field-emission scanning electron, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopies. Significantly, the Al–CNT composite showed no decrease in elongation despite highly enhanced tensile strength compared to that of pure Al. We believe that the presence of CNTs in the boundary layer affects the mechanical properties, which leads to well-aligned CNTs in the extrusion direction as well as effective stress transfer between the Al matrix and the CNTs due to the generation of aluminum carbide.  相似文献

Because of their high mechanical strength, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are being considered as nanoscale fibres to enhance the performance of polymer composite materials. Novel CNT-based composites have been fabricated using different methods, expecting that the resulting composites would possess enhanced or completely new set of physical properties due to the addition of CNTs. However, the physics of interactions between CNT and its surrounding matrix material in such nano-composites has yet to be elucidated and methods for determining the parameters controlling interfacial characteristics such as interfacial shear stress, is still challenging. An improvement of the physical properties of polymer nanocomposites, based on carbon nanotubes (CNTs), is addicted to a good dispersion and strong interactions between the matrix and the filler.  相似文献

采用挤压铸造法制备不同体积分数的TiB2P/Al复合材料, 利用扫描电镜、 硬度计、 拉伸试验机等对复合材料的室温力学性能进行了研究, 系统地分析了体积分数和热处理工艺对材料力学性能的影响。结果表明: 挤压铸造TiB2P/Al复合材料的布氏硬度、 抗弯强度和弹性模量随增强相TiB2体积分数的增加而提高。45% TiB2P/Al复合材料T6处理后硬度和抗弯强度分别比退火态时提高了23%和40%, 但热处理状态对弹性模量的影响不大。   相似文献

In this investigation, carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced aluminum composites were prepared by the molecular-level mixing process using copper coated CNTs. The mixing of CNTs was accomplished by ultrasonic mixing and ball milling. Electroless Cu-coated CNTs were used to enhance the interfacial bonding between CNTs and aluminum. Scanning electron microscope analysis revealed the homogenous dispersion of Cu-coated CNTs in the composite samples compared with the uncoated CNTs. The samples were pressureless sintered under vacuum followed by hot rolling to promote the uniform microstructure and dispersion of CNTs. In 1.0 wt.% uncoated and Cu-coated CNT/Al composites, compared to pure Al, the microhardness increased by 44% and 103%, respectively. As compared to the pure Al, for 1.0 wt.% uncoated CNT/Al composite, increase in yield strength and ultimate tensile strength was estimated about 58% and 62%, respectively. However, in case of 1.0 wt.% Cu-coated CNT/Al composite, yield strength and ultimate tensile strength were increased significantly about 121% and 107%, respectively.  相似文献

Electroless Ni–P under bump metallization (UBM) has advantages of even surface, low cost and simplicity to deposit, but their mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and stability still face challenges under high soldering temperature. Incorporating carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into electroless Ni–P UBM might be expected to provide Ni–P–CNT composites with high mechanical strength and stability. Ni–P–CNT composite coatings as well as Ni–P coatings were fabricated by electroless plating process. In order to homogeneously disperse CNTs in composite coatings, acid pre-treatment and surfactant dispersant were introduced. During composite electroless plating, the ultrasonic agitation was also employed. In this study, scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) was used to observe the morphology and the CNTs were proved to be uniformly distributed in Ni–P–CNT coatings by SEM and atomic force microscopy. It was verified that the surface of the composite was quite smooth and continuous; CNTs are equably embedded in the matrix, which is advantageous for conductivity, mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. Shear tests were conducted to evaluate the effect of CNT reinforcement on the mechanical properties of joints, and the joints with CNT additions exhibited higher shear strength at different reflow cycles. Moreover, deposition mechanism of CNTs with Ni was analyzed and confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. Factors that affecting plating process was also discussed, and the optimum plating condition was suggested in this study.  相似文献

In the present study, we have fabricated a series of high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (HTVSR)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) nanocomposites with different CNT contents. The CNTs were pretreated by the chitosan salt before being incorporated into the HTVSR. The nanocomposites were then characterized in terms of morphological, thermal, mechanical and electrical properties. It was found that the chitosan salt pretreated CNTs dispersed uniformly within the HTVSR matrix, improving the thermal and mechanical properties of the HTVSR. The nanocomposites could remain conductive without losing inherent properties after 100 times of repeated stretching/release cycles by 100%, 200%, and even 300%. Moreover, the nanocomposites had good response to the compressed pressures. The results obtained from this study indicate that the fabricated nanocomposites are potential to be used in many electrical fields such as the conductive elastomer or the pressure sensor.  相似文献

The structural evolution of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) during mechanical milling was investigated using SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS and Raman spectroscopy. The study showed that milling of the CNTs alone introduces defects but preserves the tubular structure. When milling the CNTs with aluminum (Al) powder in order to produce a composite, Raman spectroscopy has shown that most of the nanotubes are destroyed. During sintering of the CNT/Al milled mixture, the carbon atoms available from the destruction of the nanotubes react with the Al to form aluminum carbide (Al4C3). The effect of milling on the Al matrix was also studied.  相似文献

Multiwall carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanocomposites have been successfully fabricated with melt blending. Two melt blending approaches of batch mixing and continuous extrusion have been used and the properties of the derived nanocomposites have been compared. The interaction of PMMA and CNTs, which is crucial to greatly improve the polymer properties, has been physically enhanced by adding a third party of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) compatibilizer. It is found that the electrical threshold for both PMMA/CNT and PMMA/PVDF/CNT nanocomposites lies between 0.5 to 1 wt% of CNTs. The thermal and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites increase with CNTs and they are further increased by the addition of PVDF For 5 wt% CNT reinforced PMMA/PVDF/CNT nanocomposite, the onset of decomposition temperature is about 17 degrees C higher and elastic modulus is about 19.5% higher than those of neat PMMA. Rheological study also shows that the CNTs incorporated in the PMMA/PVDF/CNT nanocomposites act as physical cross-linkers.  相似文献

Vibration damping characteristic of nanocomposites and carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites (CFRPs) containing multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been studied using the free and forced vibration tests. Several vibration parameters are varied to characterize the damping behavior in different amplitudes, natural frequencies and vibration modes. The damping ratio of the hybrid composites is enhanced with the addition of CNTs, which is attributed to sliding at the CNT-matrix interfaces. The damping ratio is dependent on the amplitude as a result of the random orientation of CNTs in the epoxy matrix. The natural frequency shows negligible influence on the damping properties. The forced vibration test indicates that the damping ratios of the CFRP composites increase with increasing CNT content in both the 1st and 2nd vibration modes. The CNT-epoxy nanocomposites also show similar increasing trends of damping ratio with CNT content, indicating the enhanced damping property of CFRPs arising mainly from the improved damping property of the modified matrix. The dynamic mechanical analysis further confirms that the CNTs have a strong influence on the composites damping properties. Both the dynamic loss modulus and loss factor of the nanocomposites and the corresponding CFRPs show consistent increases with the addition of CNTs, an indication of enhanced damping performance.  相似文献

In this study, epoxy-based nanocomposites containing multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were produced by a calendering approach. The electrical conductivities of these composites were investigated as a function of CNT content. The conductivity was found to obey a percolation-like power law with a percolation threshold below 0.05 vol.%. The electrical conductivity of the neat epoxy resin could be enhanced by nine orders of magnitude, with the addition of only 0.6 vol.% CNTs, suggesting the formation of a well-conducting network by the CNTs throughout the insulating polymer matrix. To characterize the dispersion and the morphology of CNTs in epoxy matrix, different microscopic techniques were applied to characterize the dispersion and the morphology of CNTs in epoxy matrix, such as atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In particular, the charge contrast imaging in SEM allows a visualization of the overall distribution of CNTs at a micro-scale, as well as the identification of CNT bundles at a nano-scale. On the basis of microscopic investigation, the electrical conduction mechanism of CNT/epoxy composites is discussed.  相似文献
