Carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) are grown on flexible carbon fabric via a simple and low‐cost flame synthesis process. The entire struture of the carbon fabric substrate retains its high flexibility after the growth of CNPs and can even be rolled‐up and twisted to a large degree without affecting the electric characteristics. No appreciable changes in the conductance can be observed under different bending curvatures after hundreds of bending cycles. The thermal conductivity of the carbon fabric with CNPs is about 2.34 W m?1 K?1, about one order of magnitude higher than that of most polymer substrates. The field emitter fabricated using the structure has a low threshold electric field of around 2.8 V μm?1, and a high field emission current density of 108 mA cm?2, which is about two to four orders of magnitude higher than that of most polymer substrate‐based flexible CNT field emitters. These results indicate that CNPs on carbon fabric have potential applications in flexible electronics devices and displays.  相似文献

Stress controllability in thermal and electrical conductivity is important for flexible piezoresistive devices. Due to the strength‐elasticity trade‐off, comprehensive investigation of stress‐controllable conduction in elastic high‐modulus polymers is challenging. Here presented is a 3D elastic graphene‐crosslinked carbon nanotube sponge/polyimide (Gw‐CNT/PI) nanocomposite. Graphene welding at the junction enables both phonon and electron transfer as well as avoids interfacial slippage during cyclic compression. The uniform Gw‐CNT/PI comprising a high‐modulus PI deposited on a porous templated network combines stress‐controllable thermal/electrical conductivity and cyclic elastic deformation. The uniform composites show different variation trends controlled by the porosity due to different phonon and electron conduction mechanisms. A relatively high k (3.24 W m?1 K?1, 1620% higher than PI) and suitable compressibility (16.5% under 1 MPa compression) enables the application of the composite in flexible elastic thermal interface conductors, which is further analyzed by finite element simulations. The interconnected network favors a high stress‐sensitive electrical conductivity (sensitivity, 973% at 9.6% strain). Thus, the Gw‐CNT/PI composite can be an important candidate material for piezoresistive sensors upon porosity optimization based on stress‐controllable thermal or electrical conductivity. The results provide insights toward controlling the stress‐induced thermal/electrical conductivities of 3D interconnected templated composite networks for piezoresistive conductors or sensors.  相似文献

Synthesizing 3D carbon nanotube (CNT) networks with multifunctional characteristics has stimulated the interest from the scientific community since the 1990s. Here, the fabrication of a novel composite material consisting of 3D covalently interconnected multiwalled CNT with silicon carbide (SiC) nano and microparticles is reported. The material is synthesized by a two‐step process involving the coating of CNT with silicon oxide (SiO x ) via chemical routes, followed by spark plasma sintering (SPS). SPS enables carbothermal reduction of SiOx and subsequent densification of the material into 3D composite blocks. Covalent interconnections of CNT are facilitated by a carbon diffusion process resulting in SiC formation as SiOx coated CNT are subjected to high temperatures. The presence of SiC in the sintered composite has been confirmed by Raman spectroscopy, as well as through energy filtered transmission electron microscopy maps. Interestingly, the 3D CNT composite exhibits high thermal conductivity (16.72 W m?1 K?1); and also a semiconducting behavior with an electron hopping mechanism associated to a 3D variable range hopping model. These findings demonstrate that it is indeed possible to fabricate SiC–CNT composites with enhanced physical properties that can be used as multifunctional materials.  相似文献

Polymer‐based thermal interface materials (TIMs) with excellent thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity are in high demand in the electronics industry. In the past decade, thermally conductive fillers, such as boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS), were usually incorporated into the polymer‐based TIMs to improve their thermal conductivity for efficient heat management. However, the thermal performance of those composites means that they are still far from practical applications, mainly because of poor control over the 3D conductive network. In the present work, a high thermally conductive BNNS/epoxy composite is fabricated by building a nacre‐mimetic 3D conductive network within an epoxy resin matrix, realized by a unique bidirectional freezing technique. The as‐prepared composite exhibits a high thermal conductivity (6.07 W m?1 K?1) at 15 vol% BNNS loading, outstanding electrical resistivity, and thermal stability, making it attractive to electronic packaging applications. In addition, this research provides a promising strategy to achieve high thermal conductive polymer‐based TIMs by building efficient 3D conductive networks.  相似文献

Thin polymer coatings are very popular, but the coatings on uneven surfaces or porous 3D structures are difficult to obtain with traditional methods. The pores are easily clogged due to nonuniform polymer curing processes caused by inevitable macroscale temperature gradients from their hotter outer to colder inner sides. Here an ultrafast and simple fabrication method is developed to obtain nanoscale coating layers on the inner and outer surfaces of a porous 3D sponge‐like carbon nanotube (CNT). Microwave irradiation rapidly and selectively heats the CNT immersed in a mixture solution of an uncured polymer and a diluent solvent, solidifying the polymer only adjacent to the CNT with five repeated 3 s microwave irradiation. The coating layers can be controlled by adjusting the concentration of the uncured polymer in the solution and controlling the CNT temperature via microwave power and irradiation time. The nanoscale coating strongly ties the junction between CNTs without filling the pores with the polymer, resulting in excellent resilience to compressive stress with large strains (≈180 kPa at 60%), which is maintained throughout repeated 8000 cycles of 0–60% strain. The unfilled pores allow for maintaining the low thermal conductivity, ≈26 mW m?1 K?1, and the electrical resistance is varied with strain. This facile selective polymer curing methodology can be utilized in processing various materials with uneven surfaces or pores.  相似文献

Efforts to utilize the high intrinsic thermal conductivity of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for thermal transport applications, namely for thermal interface materials (TIMs), have been encumbered by the presence of high thermal contact resistances between the CNTs and connecting materials. Here, a pyrenylpropyl‐phosphonic acid surface modifier is synthesized and applied in a straight forward and repeatable approach to reduce the thermal contact resistance between CNTs and metal oxide surfaces. When used to bond nominally vertically aligned multi‐walled CNT forests to Cu oxide surfaces, the modifier facilitates a roughly 9‐fold reduction in the thermal contact resistance over dry contact, enabling CNT‐based TIMs with thermal resistances of 4.6 ± 0.5 mm2 K W?1, comparable to conventional metallic solders. Additional experimental characterization of the modifier suggests that it may be used to reduce the electrical resistance of CNT‐metal oxide contacts by similar orders of magnitude.  相似文献

We present a detailed study of the influence of carbon nanotube (CNT) characteristics on the electrical conductivity of polystyrene nanocomposites produced using a latex‐based approach. We processed both industrially‐produced multi‐wall CNT (MWCNT) powders and MWCNTs from vertically‐aligned films made in‐house, and demonstrate that while the raw CNTs are individualized and dispersed comparably within the polymer matrix, the electrical conductivity of the final nanocomposites differs significantly due to the intrinsic characteristics of the CNTs. Owing to their longer length after dispersion, the percolation threshold observed using MWCNTs from vertically‐aligned films is five times lower than the value for industrially‐produced MWCNT powders. Further, owing to the high structural quality of the CNTs from vertically‐aligned films, the resulting composite films exhibit electrical conductivity of 103 S m?1 at 2 wt% CNTs. On the contrary, composites made using the industrially‐produced CNTs exhibit conductivity of only tens of S m?1. To our knowledge, the measured electrical conductivity for CNT/PS composites using CNTs from vertically‐aligned films is by far the highest value yet reported for CNT/PS nanocomposites at this loading.  相似文献

The rational combination of conductive nanocarbon with sulfur leads to the formation of composite cathodes that can take full advantage of each building block; this is an effective way to construct cathode materials for lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries with high energy density. Generally, the areal sulfur‐loading amount is less than 2.0 mg cm?2, resulting in a low areal capacity far below the acceptable value for practical applications. In this contribution, a hierarchical free‐standing carbon nanotube (CNT)‐S paper electrode with an ultrahigh sulfur‐loading of 6.3 mg cm?2 is fabricated using a facile bottom–up strategy. In the CNT–S paper electrode, short multi‐walled CNTs are employed as the short‐range electrical conductive framework for sulfur accommodation, while the super‐long CNTs serve as both the long‐range conductive network and the intercrossed mechanical scaffold. An initial discharge capacity of 6.2 mA·h cm?2 (995 mA·h g?1), a 60% utilization of sulfur, and a slow cyclic fading rate of 0.20%/cycle within the initial 150 cycles at a low current density of 0.05 C are achieved. The areal capacity can be further increased to 15.1 mA·h cm?2 by stacking three CNT–S paper electrodes—resulting in an areal sulfur‐loading of 17.3 mg cm?2—for the cathode of a Li–S cell. The as‐obtained free‐standing paper electrode are of low cost and provide high energy density, making them promising for flexible electronic devices based on Li–S batteries.  相似文献

The thermal conductivity of gas‐permeated single‐walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) aerogel (8 kg m?3 density, 0.0061 volume fraction) is measured experimentally and modeled using mesoscale and atomistic simulations. Despite the high thermal conductivity of isolated SWCNTs, the thermal conductivity of the evacuated aerogel is 0.025 ± 0.010 W m?1 K?1 at a temperature of 300 K. This very low value is a result of the high porosity and the low interface thermal conductance at the tube–tube junctions (estimated as 12 pW K?1). Thermal conductivity measurements and analysis of the gas‐permeated aerogel (H2, He, Ne, N2, and Ar) show that gas molecules transport energy over length scales hundreds of times larger than the diameters of the pores in the aerogel. It is hypothesized that inefficient energy exchange between gas molecules and SWCNTs gives the permeating molecules a memory of their prior collisions. Low gas‐SWCNT accommodation coefficients predicted by molecular dynamics simulations support this hypothesis. Amplified energy transport length scales resulting from low gas accommodation are a general feature of CNT‐based nanoporous materials.  相似文献

Lithium‐ion, sodium‐ion, and potassium‐ion batteries have captured tremendous attention in power supplies for various electric vehicles and portable electronic devices. However, their practical applications are severely limited by factors such as poor rate capability, fast capacity decay, sluggish charge storage dynamics, and low reversibility. Herein, hetero‐structured bimetallic sulfide (NiS/FeS) encapsulated in N‐doped porous carbon cubes interconnected with CNTs (Ni‐Fe‐S‐CNT) are prepared through a convenient co‐precipitation and post‐heat treatment sulfurization technique of the corresponding Prussian‐blue analogue nanocage precursor. This special 3D hierarchical structure can offer a stable interconnect and conductive network and shorten the diffusion path of ions, thereby greatly enhancing the mobility efficiency of alkali (Li, Na, K) ions in electrode materials. The Ni‐Fe‐S‐CNT nanocomposite maintains a charge capacity of 1535 mAh g?1 at 0.2 A g?1 for lithium ion batteries, 431 mAh g?1 at 0.1 A g?1 for sodium ion batteries, and 181 mAh g?1 at 0.1 A g?1 for potassium‐ion batteries, respectively. The high performance is mainly attributed to the 3D hierarchically high‐conductivity network architecture, in which the hetero‐structured FeS/NiS nanocubes provide fast Li+/Na+/K+ insertion/extraction and reduced ion diffusion paths, and the distinctive 3D networks maintain the electrical contact and guarantee the structural integrity.  相似文献

The lamination of a high‐capacitance ion gel dielectric layer onto semiconducting carbon nanotube (CNT) thin‐film transistors (TFTs) that are bottom‐gated with a low‐capacitance polymer dielectric layer drastically reduces the operating voltage of the devices resulting from the capacitive coupling effect between the two dielectric layers sandwiching the CNT channel. As the CNT channel has a network structure, only a compact area of ion gel is required to make the capacitive coupling effect viable, unlike the planar channels of previously reported transistors that required a substantially larger area of ion gel dielectric layer to induce the coupling effect. The capacitively coupled CNT TFTs possess superlative electrical characteristics such as high carrier mobilities (42.0 cm2 (Vs)?1 for holes and 59.1 cm2 (Vs)?1 for electrons), steep subthreshold swings (160 mV dec?1 for holes and 100 mV dec?1 for electrons), and low gate leakage currents (<1 nA). These devices can be further integrated to form complex logic circuits on flexible substrates with high mechanical resilience. The layered geometry of the device coupled with scalable solution‐based fabrication has significant potential for large‐scale flexible electronics.  相似文献

Multidimensional hierarchical architecturing is a promising chemical approach to provide unique characteristics synergistically integrated from individual nanostructured materials for energy storage applications. Herein, hierarchical complex hybrid architectures of CNT‐on‐OCNT‐Fe are reported, where iron oxide nanoparticles are encapsulated inside carbon nanotube (CNT) branches grown onto the ozone‐treated surface of 3D CNT internetworked porous structures. The activated surface of the 3D ozonated CNT (OCNT) interacts with the iron oxide nanoparticles, resulting in different chemical environments of inner and outer tubes and large surface area. The mixed phases of iron oxide nanoparticles are confined by full encapsulation inside the conductive nanotubes and act as catalysts to vertically grow the CNT branches. This unique hierarchical architecture allows CNT‐on‐OCNT‐Fe to achieve a reasonable capacity of >798 mA h g?1 at 50 mA g?1, with outstanding rate capability (≈72% capacity retention at rates from 50 to 1000 mA g?1) and cyclic stability (>98.3% capacity retention up to 200 cycles at 100 mA g?1 with a coulombic efficiency of >97%). The improved rate and cyclic capabilities are attributed to the hierarchical porosity of 3D OCNT internetworks, the shielding of CNT walls for encapsulated iron oxide nanoparticles, and a proximate electronic pathway for the isolated nanoparticles.  相似文献

Rational design of sulfur host materials with high electrical conductivity and strong polysulfides (PS) confinement is indispensable for high‐performance lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries. This study presents one type of new polymer material based on main‐chain imidazolium‐based ionic polymer (ImIP) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs); the polymer composites can serve as a precursor of CNT/NPC‐300, in which close coverage and seamless junction of CNTs by N‐doped porous carbon (NPC) form a 3D conductive network. CNT/NPC‐300 inherits and strengthens the advantages of both high electrical conductivity from CNTs and strong PS entrapping ability from NPC. Benefiting from the improved attributes, the CNT/NPC‐300‐57S electrode shows much higher reversible capacity, rate capability, and cycling stability than NPC‐57S and CNTs‐56S. The initial discharge capacity of 1065 mA h g?1 is achieved at 0.5 C with the capacity retention of 817 mA h g?1 over 300 cycles. Importantly, when counter bromide anion in the composite of CNTs and ImIP is metathesized to bis(trifluoromethane sulfonimide), heteroatom sulfur is cooperatively incorporated into the carbon hosts, and the surface area is increased with the promotion of micropore formation, thus further improving electrochemical performance. This provides a new method for optimizing porous properties and dopant components of the cathode materials in Li–S batteries.  相似文献

As a low dimensional crystal, graphene attracts great attention as heat dissipation material due to its unique thermal transfer property exceeding the limit of bulk graphite. In this contribution, flexible graphene–carbon fiber composite paper is fabricated by depositing graphene oxide into the carbon fiber precursor followed by carbonization. In this full‐carbon architecture, scaffold of one‐dimensional carbon fiber is employed as the structural component to reinforce the mechanical strength, while the hierarchically arranged two‐dimensional graphene in the framework provides a convenient pathway for in‐plane acoustic phonon transmission. The as‐obtained hierarchical carbon/carbon composite paper possesses ultra‐high in‐plane thermal conductivity of 977 W m?1 K?1 and favorable tensile strength of 15.3 MPa. The combined mechanical and thermal performances make the material highly desirable as lateral heat spreader for next‐generation commercial portable electronics.  相似文献

Polymer‐based composites are of high interest in the field of thermoelectric (TE) materials because of their properties: abundance, low thermal conductivity, and nontoxicity. In applications, like TE for wearable energy harvesting, where low operating temperatures are required, polymer composites demonstrate compatible with the targeted specifications. The main challenge is reaching high TE efficiency. Fillers and chemical treatments can be used to enhance TE performance of the polymer matrix. The combined application of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes forest (VA‐CNTF) is demonstrated as fillers and chemical post‐treatment to obtain high‐efficiency TE composites, by dispersing VA‐CNTF into a poly (3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate matrix. The VA‐CNTF keeps the functional properties even in flexible substrates. The morphology, structure, composition, and functional features of the composites are thoroughly investigated. A dramatic increase of power factor is observed at the lowest operating temperature difference ever reported. The highest Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity are 58.7 µV K?1 and 1131 S cm?1, respectively. The highest power factor after treatment is twice as high in untreated samples. The results demonstrate the potential for the combined application of VA‐CNTF and chemical post‐treatment, in boosting the TE properties of composite polymers toward the development of high efficiency, low‐temperature, flexible TEs.  相似文献

Nitrogen‐doped carbon aerogels (NCAs) have received great attention for a wide range of applications, from thermal electronics to waste water purification, heavy metal or gas adsorption, energy storage, and catalyst supports. Herein NCAs are developed via the synthesis of a Schiff‐base porous organic polymer aerogel followed by pyrolysis. By controlling the pyrolysis temperature, the polymer aerogel can be simply converted into porous NCAs with a low bulk density (5 mg cm?3), high surface area (2356 m2 g?1), and high bulk porosity (70%). The NCAs containing 1.8–5.3 wt% N atoms exhibit remarkable CO2 uptake capacities (6.1 mmol g?1 at 273 K and 1 bar, 33.1 mmol g?1 at 323 K and 30 bar) and high ideal adsorption solution theory selectivity (47.8) at ambient pressure. Supercapacitors fabricated with NCAs display high specific capacitance (300 F g?1 at 0.5 A g?1), fast rate (charge to 221 F g?1 within only 17 s), and high stability (retained >98% capacity after 5000 cycles). Asymmetric supercapacitors assembled with NCAs also show high energy density and power density with maximal values of 30.5 Wh kg?1 and 7088 W kg?1, respectively. The outstanding CO2 uptake and energy storage abilities are attributed to the ultra‐high surface area, N‐doping, conductivity, and rigidity of NCA frameworks.  相似文献

Reduced graphene oxide (RGO) films are promising in applications ranging from electronics to flexible sensors. Though high electrical and thermal conductivities have been reported for RGO films, existing thermal conductivity data for RGO films show large variations from 30 to 2600 W m?1 K?1. Further, there is a lack of data at low temperatures (<300 K), which is critical for the understanding of thermal transport mechanisms. In this work, a temperature‐dependent study of thermal (10–300 K) and electrical (10–3000 K) transport in annealed RGO films indicates the potential application of RGO films for sensing temperatures across an extremely wide range. The room‐temperature thermal conductivity increases significantly from 46.1 to 118.7 W m?1 K?1 with increasing annealing temperature from 1000 to 3000 K with a corresponding increase in the electrical conductivity from 5.2 to 1481.0 S cm?1. In addition, films reduced at 3000 K are promising for sensing extreme temperatures as demonstrated through the measured electrical resistivity from 10 to 3000 K. Sensors based on RGO films are advantageous over conventional temperature sensors due to the wide temperature range and flexibility. Thus, this material is useful in many applications including flexible electronics and thermal management systems.  相似文献

Thermal conductance measurements of individual single‐ (S), double‐ (D), and multi‐ (M) walled (W) carbon nanotubes (CNTs) grown using thermal chemical vapor deposition between two suspended microthermometers are reported. The crystal structure of the measured CNT samples is characterized in detail using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The thermal conductance, diameter, and chirality are all determined on the same individual SWCNT. The thermal contact resistance per unit length is obtained as 78–585 m K W?1 for three as‐grown 10–14 nm diameter MWCNTs on rough Pt electrodes, and decreases by more than 2 times after the deposition of amorphous platinum–carbon composites at the contacts. The obtained intrinsic thermal conductivity of approximately 42–48, 178–336, and 269–343 W m?1 K?1 at room‐temperature for the three MWCNT samples correlates well with TEM‐observed defects spaced approximately 13, 20, and 29 nm apart, respectively; whereas the effective thermal conductivity is found to be limited by the thermal contact resistance to be about 600 W m?1 K?1 at room temperature for the as‐grown DWCNT and SWCNT samples without the contact deposition.  相似文献

Nickel ethenetetrathiolate (NiETT) polymers are promising n‐type thermoelectric (TE) materials, but their insolubility requires the use of an inert polymer matrix to form films, which is detrimental to the TE performance. In this work, the use of thermal annealing as a post‐treatment process simultaneously enhances the electrical conductivity from 6 ± 2 to 23 ± 3 S cm?1 and thermopower from ?28 ± 3 to ?74 ± 4 µV K?1 for NiETT/PVDF composite films. Spectroscopic characterization reveals that the underlying mechanism involves removal of residual solvent and volatile impurities (carbonyl sulfide and water) in the NiETT polymer backbone. Additionally, microscopic characterization reveals morphological changes caused by a densification of the film that improves chain packing. These effects result in a 25 × improvement in power factor from 0.5 to 12.5 µW m?1 K?2 for NiETT/PVDF films and provide insight into the composition of these coordination polymers that maintain their stability under ambient conditions.  相似文献

A novel method for fabricating micro‐patterned interdigitated electrodes based on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and carbon nanotube (CNT) composites for ultra‐high power handling micro‐supercapacitor application is reported. The binder‐free microelectrodes were developed by combining electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) and photolithography lift‐off methods. Without typically used thermal or chemical reduction, GO sheets are readily reduced to rGO during the ESD deposition. Electrochemical measurements show that the in‐plane interdigital design of the microelectrodes is effective in increasing accessibility of electrolyte ions in‐between stacked rGO sheets through an electro‐activation process. Addition of CNTs results in reduced restacking of rGO sheets and improved energy and power density. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements show that the specific capacitance of the micro‐supercapacitor based on rGO–CNT composites is 6.1 mF cm?2 at 0.01 V s?1. At a very high scan rate of 50 V s?1, a specific capacitance of 2.8 mF cm?2 (stack capacitance of 3.1 F cm?3) is recorded, which is an unprecedented performance for supercapacitors. The addition of CNT, electrolyte‐accessible and binder‐free microelectrodes, as well as an interdigitated in‐plane design result in a high‐frequency response of the micro‐supercapacitors with resistive‐capacitive time constants as low as 4.8 ms. These characteristics suggest that interdigitated rGO–CNT composite electrodes are promising for on‐chip energy storage application with high power demands.  相似文献
