Abstract: The development of a reliable bridge management system (BMS) constitutes a formidable engineering challenge due to both the multiobjective nature of the task and the large amount of information to be considered in formulating the required automated judgments. This article deals with a procedure for bridge condition assessment by visual inspection developed during the planning and preliminary design of the BMS for the public railway networks in Italy. The main modules adopted in the procedure are: bridge inventory, computer-aided visual inspection, automated defect catalog, and priority-ranking procedure. The probabilistic models used to calibrate the condition evaluation algorithm are discussed. Different levels of deficiency have been individuated for each class of bridge structure belonging to the managed stock. The procedure allows comparison and relative ranking of deficiency conditions across different types of bridge structures. The results of a visual inspection campaign conducted for a set of bridges with different structural characteristics are reported and evaluated within the framework of the developed BMS. 相似文献

Abstract: The present article addresses the development of a spatial information system (SIS), which aims to facilitate risk management of large‐scale concrete structures. The formulation of the SIS is based on ideas developed in the context of indicator‐based risk modeling for concrete structures subject to corrosion and geographical information system based risk modeling concerning large‐scale risk management. The term “risk management” here refers in particular to the process of condition assessment and optimization of the inspection and repair activities. The SIS facilitates the storage and handling of all relevant information to the risk management. The probabilistic modeling utilized in the condition assessment takes basis in a Bayesian hierarchical modeling philosophy. It facilitates the updating of risks as well as optimizing inspection plans whenever new information about the condition of the structure becomes available. In the SIS, the various data of relevance for the risk management can be visualized in three dimensions. This feature and the other functionalities of the SIS are illustrated in an example considering the Danish Farø bridges. 相似文献

Abstract: A class of environmental information systems, called environmental decision support systems, is defined. The requirements for such systems are elaborated, and a software architecture that supports these requirements is developed. This architecture is then illustrated through the example of the Sandia Environmental Decision Support System (SEDSS). The SEDSS is a family of workstation applications based on the architecture developed by AT&T Bell Laboratories and prototyped in collaboration with the Environmental Restoration Organization of Sandia National Laboratories. Sharing a common user interface philosophy and software architecture, the members of the SEDSS family are designed to facilitate human decision making with respect to the hydrologic aspects of hazardous waste management. In order to achieve these objectives, the SEDSS family integrates geographic information systems, hydrologic models, Monte Carlo simulation, and a highly interactive graphical user interface, into a coherent software system based on the X Window System.
This architecture is currently being applied to such similar environmental management problems as well-head protection area analysis, in addition to nongroundwater problems such as coastal fisheries management. Applied research in environmental decision support systems continues in the areas of uncertainty management, treatment of qualitative parameters, and the human factors of environmental decision making. 相似文献

The traffic of special overloaded trucks (special permits) over bridges may create structural problems not only in the time of crossing but also in the service life of the bridge (cracking in concrete bridges affecting their durability, fatigue in steel bridges, etc.). Therefore, the owner agency responsible for a bridge network should look carefully at the maximum loads acting on the bridges and the problems they may cause according to their actual condition. This article presents the work carried out by the authors concerning the possibility of passage permission of overload permits in the main highway network of Spain. Most of the bridges are quite new and very well documented, but also older bridges are present whose documentation is not available. The work is summarized in a bridge management system (BMS) installed on a PC. The computational model performs the structural analysis of the bridges crossed by a defined special vehicle in a quick and automatic way and compares the results with the maximum allowable actions over the bridge, the result being authorization or not of the passage. The computational models are developed for most common bridge types in the network and are of limited value for very complex structures such as cable-stayed or suspension bridges. The BMS is now in use in the complete trunk road system in Spain. The software developed has shown its usefulness in assisting bridge engineers in the decision-making process of permit passage. 相似文献

Recently, the maintenance of bridges has become a major social concern, and thus the development of a practical bridge management system is required. The present study is an attempt to develop a new bridge management system (BMS) for deteriorated concrete bridges by evaluating the output results from a bridge rating expert system that is currently under development. The proposed BMS offers various maintenance plans based on a combination of maintenance cost minimization and quality maximization. Genetic algorithms (GAs) are adopted for solving the optimization problem. These algorithms, which are based on the theory of evolution, create a suitable individual (optimal) solution through the repetition of three operators: selection, crossover, and mutation. Furthermore, applications to several existing concrete bridges are presented so as to demonstrate the validity of the proposed bridge management system. 相似文献

Environmental management is a scientifically and procedurally complex task requiring the involvement of a range of disciplines. Increasingly this process is being rendered more tractable through the application of geographic information systems (GIS) technology. When such systems are effectively integrated with biophysical modelling software a spatial decision support system can be achieved. The outputs of such a system are often in the form of visualizations, i.e. a sequence of graphics (perhaps of unit length and possibly including text), designed to meet specific communication objectives.
