We demonstrate that linearly tapered fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) display nonlinear group delay under strain or stress. The nonlinear group delay of the tapered FBG is analyzed theoretically. Experimental results show a good agreement with the analysis. We are the first to find that linearly tapered FBGs can be used in dispersion slope compensation.  相似文献

Binary and multilevel phase-only sampling functions are proposed for the sampled fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) with high channel count, which require significantly less refractive-index modulation than that does the sampled grating with amplitude sampling. The design using the new simulated quenching optimization with temperature rescaling results in high channel uniformity and minimum energy in the out-of-band channels. The technique can be applied to the sampled FBGs with very high channel count. A five-channel nonlinearly chirped multilevel phase-only sampled FBG for tunable chromatic dispersion compensation is demonstrated.  相似文献

报道了一种新型实用的用单根光纤布拉格光栅(FBG)实现温度和应变分离传感的技术。当光纤光栅一部分包层直径变小时,整个光栅可以看成由两个周期相同但直径不同的子光栅连接而成。理沦分析和实验都证实了这两个子光栅具有相同的温度敏感性和不同的应变敏感性.由此实现光纤光栅传感器中温度和应变两参数的分离测量,而且这两个子光栅的中心波长间距可以直接测量应变大小.温度变化不影响所测量的应变值。实验中光栅的一部分包层直径被HF酸腐蚀到82μm.获得了两子光栅应变响应系数分别为0.00201nm/με.0.000858nm/με,二峰间距的应变响应系数为0.00116nm/με.二峰的温度响应系数均为0.01nm/℃的测量结果.依据这些结果可以对温度和应变进行同时分离测量。  相似文献

We measure the in-band dispersion penalty in a cascade of five 50-GHz low-dispersion linear-phase fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) and compare the results with conventional apodised FBGs. At the 0.5-dB power penalty level, the usable bandwidth of a single linear-phase FBG (40 GHz) is twice as wide as that of a conventional apodised FBG (19 GHz). The bandwidth-utilization factor of a single linear-dispersion grating is 89%, while for the five-grating cascade, it is 76%. To our knowledge, these are the highest values reported to date for cascaded optical devices. The corresponding factors for the conventional gratings are 53% and 31%. We also measure the additional penalty on a dropped channel caused by a cascade of five adjacent-channel gratings. The bandwidth narrowing due to the adjacent-channel FBGs is 6 GHz both for linear-phase and conventional FBGs, giving a usable bandwidth of 34 GHz (linear-phase) and 13 GHz (conventional).  相似文献

研究了一种对外腔式F-P干涉型(EFPI)传感器和光纤光栅(FBG)传感器进行混合测量的技术。用窄线宽的扫描光注入EFPI或FBG,通过测量FBG的反射光波长和EFPI的反射光光谱完成在同一台仪器的不同通道实现了对FBG或EFPI的同时测量。还研究了在一根光纤上同时实现FBG和EFPI测量的技术,结果表明FBG串联在EFPI前面时,可准确测量出FBG的波长和EFPI的腔长。而EFPI串联在FBG前时,只能测量EFPI,而不能完成FBG的同时测量。  相似文献

Optical Arbitrary Waveform Generation Based on Sampled Fiber Bragg Gratings   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Two approaches are proposed for generating optical arbitrary waveforms using sampled fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). The manipulation of the optical spectrum of an input pulse is achieved by a sampled FBG which is fabricated using a novel technique based on the reconstruction-equivalent-chirp (REC) method. The key advantage of the REC technique is that it can produce FBGs with various phase profiles using a fabrication system having only micrometer precision. Two examples for the generation of Gaussian doublet pulses are demonstrated, which would find applications in ultra-wideband over fiber systems.  相似文献

We introduce a general approach for designing ultrabroadband arbitrary-order all-optical (all-fiber) time differentiators based on the use of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). Specifically, we numerically demonstrate that an Nth-order time differentiator can be implemented using a single specially apodized highly dispersive linearly chirped FBG operated in transmission. A concatenated reflection phase-shifted FBG is also required for implementing any odd-order differentiator. Our numerical simulations show that accurate and efficient time differentiation of optical signals with bandwidths up to a few hundreds of gigahertz can be realized using readily feasible FBG structures.  相似文献

An optical fiber sensor for strain and temperature measurement based on long period fiber grating (LPFG) cascaded with fiber Bragg grating (FBG) structure has been proposed and realized both theoretically and experimentally. Theoretical analysis shows that two microstructures with similar sensitivities cannot be used for double parameters measurement. The LPFG is micromachined by the CO2 laser, and the FBG is micromachined by the excimer laser. For the validation and comparison, two FBGs and one LPFG are cascaded with three transmission valleys, namely FBG1 valley at 1 536.3 nm, LPFG valley at 1 551.2 nm, and FBG2 valley at 1 577.3 nm. The temperature and strain characteristics of the proposed sensor are measured at 45—70 °C and 250—500 με, respectively. The sensitivity matrix is determined by analyzing wavelength shifts and parameter response characterization of three different dips. The proposed optical fiber sensor based on LPFG cascaded with FBG structure can be efficiently used for double parameters measurement with promising application prospect and great research reference value.  相似文献

为了消除温度对实现电流测量的影响,提出了一种具有温度补偿 功能的光纤Bragg光栅(FBG)交流电流互感器。利用两个FBG和超磁致伸缩材料(GMM)组成的 传感单元分别放置在两个相邻对称的铁磁回中,并加上两个方向相反的直流偏置磁场,利用 匹配检测方法对两只FBG进行解调,实现交流的测量。测量结果表明,在温度的影响下,系 统的静态工作点几乎未发生变化,在线性区测得最大电流为93.78A , 可获得1.68%的满量程精度。这种FBG电流传感器不仅可以测量交流电 流,也可以实现直流电流的测量。  相似文献

This paper describes the use of a genetic algorithm and two thermally modulated fiber Bragg grating (FBG) reflection intensity spectra to perform the inverse extraction of multiple physical parameters of arbitrary FBGs, including the grating period, grating position, grating length, chirped direction, and refractive-index modulation. The developed numerical approach is applied to synthesize the parameters of uniform and chirped FBGs. The experimental results confirm the ability of the proposed method to recover the grating period, grating length, grating position, refractive-index modulation depth, and apodize factor of a 10-mm-length uniform FBG. The proposed method is suitable for fiber communication applications and smart structure-monitoring systems.  相似文献

The ultrasonic (US) wave detection and an acoustic emission (AE) linear location system are proposed, which employ fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) as US wave sensors. In the theoretical analysis, the FBG sensor response to longitudinal US wave is investigated. The result indicates that the FBG wavelength can be modulated as static case when the grating length is much shorter than US wavelength. The experimental results of standard sinusoidal and spindle wave test agree well with the generated signal. Further research using two FBGs for realizing linear location is also achieved. The maximum linear location error is obtained as less than 5 mm. FBG-based US wave sensor and AE linear location provide useful tools for specific requirements.  相似文献

We propose a unique all-fiber Q-switched erbium-doped fiber ring laser. It consists of a phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and an apodized FBG reflector. By using the piezoelectric transducer (PZT) to periodically stretch the apodized FBG and detune it with the phases-shifted FBG, the cavity loss of the fiber ring laser is switched between high and low states to achieve Q-switching. This Q-switched fiber laser has advantages of narrow spectral bandwidth, stable oscillation wavelength, and the repetition rate of the Q-switched pulses can be double of the PZT modulation frequency. A numerical model is developed and presented to simulate and analyze this FBGs-based Q-switched fiber ring laser with consideration of the dynamic response of FBGs during Q-switching. We experimentally demonstrate 10 and 20 kHz Q-switching operation with 10 kHz PZT modulation frequency. The experimental result is similar to the simulation result.  相似文献

Analysis for the influences of writing-beam size on the performances of a dispersion-free multi-channel fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is presented. It is found that the writing-beam size strongly affects the response of this kind of grating and would make the grating spectrum considerably distorted once the beam size of the UV light is too large to form the complex index-modulation pattern within the fiber core. A novel design method has been proposed to compensate this beam-size effect and a nine-channel dispersion-free FBG with identical spectrum response has been obtained. This compensation method could decrease the tolerance for the demand of small writing-beam size and can be easily extended to the design and fabrication for most of the other complex FBGs.  相似文献

A novel time-division-multiplexing fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor for multipoint temperature warning sensor is proposed and demonstrated. A multiwavelength pulsed laser based on a multichannel matched FBG is employed. The sensor array consists of multiple uniform FBGs at different positions and with different nominal wavelengths. When the temperature exceeds the threshold at a certain position, the light at the corresponding time slot and wavelength can be detected. The sensor provides a simple and flexible solution to locate the abnormal temperature increase with different tolerable thresholds at different locations.  相似文献

Photodarkening and photobleaching in fiber optic Bragg gratings   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A photobleaching effect is reported which reduces the broadband losses induced by the single-pulse writing of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). A primary application of the optical FBG reflector is as arrays of wavelength-encoded sensing elements for detecting mechanical strain. Instrumentation is being developed to interrogate >100 point sensors along a single fiber with FBGs and detectors operating in the 790-820 nm band. In this paper, we describe broadband absorptions induced by writing single-pulse FBGs which would impose a 10 dB power penalty with as few as 40 serialized FBGs. We have reduced these photo-induced losses more than seven-fold (measured near 800 nm) using a photobleaching process which minimally affects the FBG's reflectivities. After treatment, optical losses are sufficiently low to allow the interrogation of hundreds of FBGs along a single fiber. Photodarkening and photobleaching are measured in gratings prepared by single laser pulses, and by multiple pulses with and without hydrogen loading. Parasitic loss following photobleaching is lower for single-pulse FBGs operated near 800 nm than for FBGs written with multiple pulses in hydrogen loaded fibers and operated near 1300 nm  相似文献

为了提高光纤Bragg光栅(FBG)振动传感系统的 解调灵敏度和解调范围,消除环境温度对解调信号的影响,设计了一种具有 温度补偿功能的双匹配FBG振动传感系统。系统采用两个中心波长对称地位于传 感FBG两侧的透射式匹配FBG,建立 了两个互补对称的传感通道,并利用差分原理实现振动传感。通过Matlab软件对系统性能进 行了仿真分析,结果表明,与传 统方法相比,本文方法有效地提高了系统解调灵敏度和解调范围。将匹配FBG与热电制冷器( TEC)集成封装,并建立温度补偿判断通道,当 判断通道输出电压超过已设置好的阈值时,利用TEC改变封装环境温度,使匹配FBG 与传感FBG中心波长重新匹配, 实现系统温度补偿。经实验测试,系统的归一化解调灵敏度为5.168/ nm,解调范围为1.2nm,判断通道的归一化阈值电压 为0.890。在4种不同环境温度下,利用本系统 对同一振动信号进行测量,实验结果验证了系统温度补偿的可行性。  相似文献
