An efficient metal‐free catalyst is presented for oxygen evolution and reduction based on oxidized laser‐induced graphene (LIG‐O). The oxidation of LIG by O2 plasma to form LIG‐O boosts its performance in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), exhibiting a low onset potential of 260 mV with a low Tafel slope of 49 mV dec?1, as well as an increased activity for the oxygen reduction reaction. Additionally, LIG‐O shows unexpectedly high activity in catalyzing Li2O2 decomposition in Li‐O2 batteries. The overpotential upon charging is decreased from 1.01 V in LIG to 0.63 V in LIG‐O. The oxygen‐containing groups make essential contributions, not only by providing the active sites, but also by facilitating the adsorption of OER intermediates and lowering the activation energy.  相似文献

Under the double pressures of both the energy crisis and environmental pollution, the exploitation and utilization of hydrogen, a clean and renewable power resource, has become an important trend in the development of sustainable energy‐production and energy‐consumption systems. In this regard, the electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) provides an efficient and clean pathway for the mass production of hydrogen fuel and has motivated the design and construction of highly active HER electrocatalysts of an acceptable cost. In particular, graphene‐based electrocatalysts commonly exhibit an enhanced HER performance owing to their distinctive structural merits, including a large surface area, high electrical conductivity, and good chemical stability. Considering the rapidly growing research enthusiasm for this topic over the last several years, herein, a panoramic review of recent advances in graphene‐based electrocatalysts is presented, covering various advanced synthetic strategies, microstructural characterizations, and the applications of such materials in HER electrocatalysis. Lastly, future perspectives on the challenges and opportunities awaiting this emerging field are proposed and discussed.  相似文献

Developing efficient and durable electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers represents a significant challenge. Herein, the cobalt-ruthenium oxide nano-heterostructures are successfully synthesized on carbon cloth (CoOx/RuOx-CC) for acidic OER through a simple and fast solution combustion strategy. The rapid oxidation process endows CoOx/RuOx-CC with abundant interfacial sites and defect structures, which enhances the number of active sites and the charge transfer at the electrolyte-catalyst interface, promoting the OER kinetics. Moreover, the electron supply effect of the CoOx support allows electrons to transfer from Co to Ru sites during the OER process, which is beneficial to alleviate the ion leaching and over-oxidation of Ru sites, improving the catalyst activity and stability. As a self-supported electrocatalyst, CoOx/RuOx-CC displays an ultralow overpotential of 180 mV at 10 mA cm−2 for OER. Notably, the PEM electrolyzer using CoOx/RuOx-CC as the anode can be operated at 100 mA cm−2 stably for 100 h. Mechanistic analysis shows that the strong catalyst-support interaction is beneficial to redistribute the electronic structure of Ru O bond to weaken its covalency, thereby optimizing the binding energy of OER intermediates and lowering the reaction energy barrier.  相似文献

Metal‐free electrocatalysts have been extensively developed to replace noble metal Pt and RuO2 catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in fuel cells or metal–air batteries. These electrocatalysts are usually deposited on a 3D conductive support (e.g., carbon paper or carbon cloth (CC)) to facilitate mass and electron transport. For practical applications, it is desirable to create in situ catalysts on the carbon fiber support to simplify the fabrication process for catalytic electrodes. In this study, the first example of in situ exfoliated, edge‐rich, oxygen‐functionalized graphene on the surface of carbon fibers using Ar plasma treatment is successfully prepared. Compared to pristine CC, the plasma‐etched carbon cloth (P‐CC) has a higher specific surface area and an increased number of active sites for OER and ORR. P‐CC also displays good intrinsic electron conductivity and excellent mass transport. Theoretical studies show that P‐CC has a low overpotential that is comparable to Pt‐based catalysts, as a result of both defects and oxygen doping. This study provides a simple and effective approach for producing highly active in situ catalysts on a carbon support for OER and ORR.  相似文献

Nitrogen and sulfur‐codoped graphene composites with Co9S8 (NS/rGO‐Co) are synthesized by facile thermal annealing of graphene oxides with cobalt nitrate and thiourea in an ammonium atmosphere. Significantly, in 0.1 m KOH aqueous solution the best sample exhibits an oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity that is superior to that of benchmark RuO2 catalysts, an oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity that is comparable to that of commercial Pt/C, and an overpotential of only ?0.193 V to reach 10 mA cm?2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). With this single catalyst for oxygen reversible electrocatalysis, a potential difference of only 0.700 V is observed in 0.1 m KOH solution between the half‐wave potential in ORR and the potential to reach 10 mA cm?2 in OER; in addition, an overpotential of only 450 mV is needed to reach 10 mA cm?2 for full water splitting in the same electrolyte. The present trifunctional catalytic activities are markedly better than leading results reported in recent literature, where the remarkable trifunctional activity is attributed to the synergetic effects between N,S‐codoped rGO, and Co9S8 nanoparticles. These results highlight the significance of deliberate structural engineering in the preparation of multifunctional electrocatalysts for versatile electrochemical reactions.  相似文献

Hydrogen is regarded as the most promising green clean energy in the 21st century. Developing the highly efficient and low‐cost electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great concern for the hydrogen industry. In the water electrolyzed reaction, the overpotential and the kinetics are the main hurdles for OER. Therefore, an efficient and durable oxygen evolution reaction electrocatalyst is required. In this study, an activated graphene (AG)–black phosphorus (BP) nanosheets hybrid is fabricated for supporting Ni3N particles (Ni3N/BP‐AG) in the application of OER. The Ni3N particles are combined with the BP‐AG heterostructure via facile mechanical ball milling under argon protection. The synthesized Ni3N/BP‐AG shows excellent catalytic performance toward the OER, demanding the overpotential of 233 mV for a current density of 10 mA cm?2 with a Tafel slope of 42 mV dec?1. The Ni3N/BP‐AG catalysts also show remarkable stability with a retention rate of the current density of about 86.4% after measuring for 10 000 s in potentiostatic mode.  相似文献

Transition metal (TM)‐based carbon hybrids have numerous applications in the field of regenerative electrochemical energy. The synergetic effects of high conductivity of carbon supports and abundant catalytic active sites in TMs make these hybrids promising oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts. However, strategies for modulating the catalytic active species in the above hybrids are limited despite being highly sought after. Furthermore, the exact roles of chemical species in the hybrids (e.g., N, C, or TM) mainly responsible for this high OER performance remain unknown. Herein, an innovative approach based on atomic layer deposition is developed to tune the true active species in Co nanoparticle/N‐doped carbon nanotube (Co/N‐CNT) hybrids. Specifically, the configuration predominantly promoting water oxidation in an alkaline medium is identified as pyridinic N–Co–C. Furthermore, a physicochemical intact interface between metallic Co nanoparticles and conductive N‐CNTs is demonstrated to induce synergetic effects for accelerating charge transfer and enhancing electrocatalytic activity as well as stability in the hybrid catalysts. The optimized hybrid catalyst is revealed to exhibit outstanding alkaline OER activity and stability, outperforming RuO2, a benchmark novel OER electrocatalyst.  相似文献

Herein, the facile preparation of ultrathin (≈3.8 nm in thickness) 2D cobalt phosphate (CoPi) nanoflakes through an oil‐phase method is reported. The obtained nanoflakes are composed of highly ordered mesoporous (≈3.74 nm in diameter) structure and exhibit an amorphous nature. Attractively, when doped with nickel, such 2D mesoporous Ni‐doped CoPi nanoflakes display decent electrocatalytic performances in terms of intrinsic activity, and low kinetic barrier toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Particularly, the optimized 10 at% Ni‐doped CoPi nanoflakes (denoted as Ni10‐CoPi) deliver a low overpotential at 10 mA cm?2 (320 mV), small Tafel slope (44.5 mV dec?1), and high stability for OER in 1.0 m KOH solution, which is comparable to the state‐of‐the‐art RuO2 tested in the same condition (overpotential: 327 mV at 10 mA cm?2, Tafel slope: 73.7 mV dec?1). The robust framework coupled with good OER performance enables the 2D mesoporous Ni10‐CoPi nanoflakes to be a promising material for energy conversion applications.  相似文献

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) plays a vital role in many energy conversion and storage processes including electrochemical water splitting for the production of hydrogen and carbon dioxide reduction to value‐added chemicals. IrO2 and RuO2, known as the state‐of‐the‐art OER electrocatalysts, are severely limited by the high cost and low earth abundance of these noble metals. Developing noble‐metal‐free OER electrocatalysts with high performance has been in great demand. In this review, recent advances in the design and synthesis of noble‐metal‐free OER electrocatalysts including Ni, Co, Fe, Mn‐based hydroxides/oxyhydroxides, oxides, chalcogenides, nitrides, phosphides, and metal‐free compounds in alkaline, neutral as well as acidic electrolytes are summarized. Perspectives are also provided on the fabrication, evaluation of OER electrocatalysts and correlations between the structures of the electrocatalysts and their OER activities.  相似文献

Electrochemical water splitting is a promising method for storing light/electrical energy in the form of H2 fuel; however, it is limited by the sluggish anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). To improve the accessibility of H2 production, it is necessary to develop an efficient OER catalyst with large surface area, abundant active sites, and good stability, through a low‐cost fabrication route. Herein, a facile solution reduction method using NaBH4 as a reductant is developed to prepare iron‐cobalt oxide nanosheets (Fex Coy ‐ONSs) with a large specific surface area (up to 261.1 m2 g?1), ultrathin thickness (1.2 nm), and, importantly, abundant oxygen vacancies. The mass activity of Fe1Co1‐ONS measured at an overpotential of 350 mV reaches up to 54.9 A g?1, while its Tafel slope is 36.8 mV dec?1; both of which are superior to those of commercial RuO2, crystalline Fe1Co1‐ONP, and most reported OER catalysts. The excellent OER catalytic activity of Fe1Co1‐ONS can be attributed to its specific structure, e.g., ultrathin nanosheets that could facilitate mass diffusion/transport of OH? ions and provide more active sites for OER catalysis, and oxygen vacancies that could improve electronic conductivity and facilitate adsorption of H2O onto nearby Co3+ sites.  相似文献

Exploration of the relationship between electrocatalytic activities and their chemical valence is very important in rational design of high‐efficient electrocatalysts. A series of porous nickel sulfides hybridized with N and S co‐doped carbon nanoparticles (NixSy‐NSCs) with different chemical valences of Ni, Ni9S8‐NSCs, Ni9S8‐NiS1.03‐NSCs, and NiS1.03‐NSCs are successfully fabricated, and their electrocatalytic performances as oxygen evolution reaction electrocatalysts are systematically investigated. The NixSy‐NSCs are obtained via a two‐step reaction including a low‐temperature synthesis of Ni‐Cys precursor followed by thermal decomposing of the precursor in Ar atmosphere. By controlling the sulfidation process during the formation of NixSy‐NSCs, Ni9S8‐NSCs, Ni9S8‐NiS1.03‐NSCs, and NiS1.03‐NSCs are obtained, respectively, giving rise to the increase of high‐valence Ni component, and resulting in gradually enhanced oxygen evolution reaction electrocatalytic activities. In particular, the NiS1.03‐NSCs show an exceptional low overpotential of ≈270 mV versus reversible hydrogen electrode at a current density of 10 mA cm?2 and a small Tafel slope of 68.9 mV dec?1 with mass loading of 0.25 mg cm?2 in 1 m KOH and their catalytic activities remained for at least 10 h, which surpass the state‐of‐the‐art IrO2, RuO2, and Ni‐based electrocatalysts.  相似文献

Nitrogen‐doped graphene exhibits high electrocatalytic activity toward the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), which is essential for many renewable energy technologies. To maximize the catalytic efficiency, it is desirable to have both a high concentration of robust nitrogen dopants and a large accessible surface of the graphene electrodes for rapid access of oxygen to the active sites. Here, 3D bicontinuous nitrogen‐doped mesoporous graphene synthesized by a low‐temperature carbide‐mediated graphene‐growth method is reported. The mesoporous graphene has a mesoscale pore size of ≈25 nm and large specific surface area of 1015 m2 g?1, which can effectively host and stabilize a high concentration of nitrogen dopants. Accordingly, it shows an excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the ORR with an efficient four‐electron‐dominated pathway and high durability in alkaline media. The synthesis route developed herein provides a new economic approach to synthesize bicontinuous porous graphene materials with tunable characteristic length, porosity, and chemical doping as high efficiency electrocatalysts for a wide range of electrochemical reactions.  相似文献
