[Correction Notice: An erratum for this article was reported in Vol 60(4) of Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research (see record 2008-17523-003). The title of the journal was printed incorrectly on page 257 as "Counseling Psychology Journal: Practice and Research." The correct title of the journal is Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research.] A content analysis of articles published in Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research was performed from 1992 (Vol. 44) through 2007 (Vol. 59). A total of 342 articles were categorized into 21 derived content categories and an "Other" category. Results show that the leading categories for publication were Coaching, Development and Training, and History of Consulting. The content was fairly stable over time. The journal does appear to be meeting its primary mission of disseminating information pertinent to the field of consulting psychology. Reports an error in "Consulting for diversity and social justice: Challenges and rewards" by Patricia Romney (Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research, 2008[Jun], Vol 60[2], 139-156). The author refers to "Paul Winn." The referenced author's last name was printed incorrectly. The correct spelling is Winum. (The following abstract of the original article appeared in record 2008-07255-002.) Consulting and training for cultural diversity is both challenging and rewarding. This article issues a call to face the challenges of diversity consulting and describes strategies and approaches for successful work. Using examples from the author's practice, the author calls on consultants to (1) get up to speed with knowledge about diversity and social justice, (2) avoid consultations that are too superficial, (3) balance content and process, (4) find ways to sustain themselves and their clients, and (5) work for the Common Good. A social justice frame is seen as a necessary adjunct to promoting equity and excellence in organizations. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

This issue marks the beginning of my editorship of Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research. Each incoming editor of a journal puts a new stamp on it, emphasizing continuity in some areas and undertaking new directions in others. In this statement of editorial policy for my tenure as the journal's editor I identify planned changes and new directions for the journal as well as editorial policies. I base these approaches both on my sense of the journal's needs and on issues I consider important for advancing the intellectual vitality of the field of consulting psychology. Outgoing editor Richard Diedrich's stewardship of this journal for the past 10 years is recognized. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Despite the fact that the Division of Consulting Psychology was one of the earliest divisions organized within APA, a distinct literature for consulting psychology has been slow in developing. As President-elect Dave Hellkamp has discussed in his historical articles in this journal, Division 13 was originally a division of Fellows of APA and membership was restricted to psychologists who had already demonstrated competency and achievement in another area of psychology, often clinical psychology. In this Editor's Column, the editor introduces the current special issue of the Consulting Psychology Journal. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

This reviews articles in a special issue (Civiello, 2009) of the Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research on applications of psychology in the U.S. intelligence and military contexts. It identifies some common themes of the articles, as well as provides individual critiques of them. In general, the reviewer notes that the articles focus more on the current and desired state conditions than on the strategies, process, and mechanisms that might have been employed to obtain those desired states. This suggests that embedded psychologists might adopt a socio-technical-structural systems perspective and attempt to expand their specialized roles to include consulting on organizational change. Reports an error in "Clinical child psychology: A practice specialty serving children, adolescents, and their families" by Yo Jackson, Fred L. Alberts Jr. and Michael C. Roberts (Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, 2010[Feb], Vol 41[1], 75-81). The following sentence on page 79 is incorrect: “As evidence of the growing recognition of board certification, many institutions providing services to children, adolescents, and families are requiring their psychologists to become certified by ABPP (e.g., Mayo Clinic) and some insurance companies now mandate this for their panels (e.g., Group Health in Seattle).” In fact Group Health in Seattle does not mandate ABPP certification for psychologists. The sentence should not contain the example in the second set of parentheses. (The following abstract of the original article appeared in record 2010-02467-010.) Clinical child psychology is a growing and vibrant field of practice and research within professional psychology. The purpose of this article is to contribute to the recent series of articles on specialties in Professional Psychology Research and Practice and delineate the development, design, and purpose of clinical child psychology. The article describes the current trends in the specialty and the challenges clinical child psychologists face in tending to the mental health needs of youth and their families. The need for the specialty and the definition of the scope of the work of clinical child psychologists is described. The parameters of training are also discussed, with a focus on the distinctiveness of the role of the clinical child psychologist. Outlined are applications of the work with children, adolescents, and their families including types of professional practice and collaborations with other professionals. States that the development of psychology as a science and its application to the control of human conduct may in the course of the coming century be as significant for civilization as has been the industrial revolution. The growth of applied psychology is discussed as well as the importance of professional schools and professional standards to the development of psychology as a profession, and the growth of the American Psychological Association since its founding in 1892. The author describes his involvement in 2 efforts to develop psychology as a profession and notes 2 successful undertakings: the Journal of Consulting Psychology and the Psychological Corporation. (This reprinted article originally appeared in the Journal of Consulting Psychology, 1937, Vol 1, 4–5. The following abstract of the original article appeared in PA, Vol 11:2786.) The future of clinical psychology or "personal service psychology" is very promising. The field of work will be varied but unified. At present there are many charlatans and half trained practitioners, but "as the profession grows in competence and in numbers its influence and authority will increase." Reports an error in "The evolving profession of psychology: Comment on Lowe Hays-Thomas's (2000) "The silent conversation." by Ronald F. Levant, Stanley Moldawsky and Tommy T. Stigall (Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, 2000[Jun], Vol 31[3], 346-348). On page 346 in the author note, Louisiana Southern University was given as the university where Tommy T. Stigall received his PhD. The correct university is Louisiana State University. (The following abstract of the original article appeared in record 2000-03894-017.) The authors comment on R. Lowe Hays-Thomas (2000; see record 2000-03894-016). The article begins with a few comments about the master's-degree issue and then examines the evolution of professional psychology in relationship to the master's issue over the past 50 years and into the future. This article is reprinted from the Journal of Consulting Psychology, 1965, 29, 97. The present editor wishes to affirm that the Journal of Consulting Psychology is the APA publication in the area of clinical psychology (child and adult), and it is his intention that its range of content will reflect the many facets of this area. Relevant topics would include: personality assessment and diagnosis, theories and techniques of behavior modification, community mental health concepts and techniques, etiology of behavior, structure and dynamics of personality, clinical psychopathology, etc. The etc. that concludes the last sentence should register the fact that the definition of clinical psychology is open-ended, and as a consequence, the Journal of Consulting Psychology will not arbitrarily exclude from consideration any topic of pertinence to clinical psychology. Authors should note that the burden for demonstrating the pertinence of their papers to clinical psychology rests with them. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

This article introduces a special section of the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology titled "Measuring Cognitive Products in Research and Practice." The practice of cognitive behavior therapies—and research on their effectiveness and the validity of the models of psychopathology and therapy associated with these treatments—requires valid assessment of cognition. Cognitive variables can be considered at several levels; the main focus of the articles in this special section is on techniques suited to measurement of cognitive products, thoughts, and images of which people are conscious. Six APA journals (Developmental Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Journal of Counseling Psychology, Journal of Educational Psychology, and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology) were content analyzed for the presence of empirical articles on African Americans during the 1970–1989 publication period. The analysis revealed a declining representation of African-American research in the 6 journals. In addition, the empirical literature that does exist was found to be lacking in methodological rigor, as defined by characteristics such as the reporting of the socioeconomic status (SES) of Ss and experimenter race. Explanations for the decline were suggested, and recommendations were proposed for alleviating the growing marginalization of African-American research in the journals of mainstream psychology. This Special Issue of Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research identifies new and emerging areas for the practice of consulting psychology. It identifies five diverse consulting practices that address new or emerging opportunities for the practice of consulting psychology. These include: applied statistical consulting (Cole & Dang, 2010), litigation consulting (Finkelman, 2010), somatic learning for leadership development (Goldman Schuyler, 2010), the impact of emotional excess on executive performance (Turner & Goodrich, 2010), and the blending of executive coaching with team development to facilitate successful leadership transition (Levin, 2010). An integrative concluding article (Newman, 2010) identifies common themes in these emerging directions for consulting psychology.
