The temporal property to-always has been proposed for specifying progress properties of concurrent programs. Although the to-always properties are a subset of the leads-to properties for a given program, to-always has more convenient proof rules and in some cases more accurately describes the desired system behavior. In this paper, we give a predicate transformerwta, derive some of its properties, and use it to define to-always. Proof rules for to-always are derived from the properties ofwta. We conclude by briefly describing two application areas, nondeterministic data flow networks and self-stabilizing systems where to-always properties are useful.  相似文献

D. R. Simon stated a problem, so-called Simons problem, whose computational complexity is in the class BQP but not in BPP, where is the function or oracle given in the problem. This result indicates that BPP may be strictly included in its quantum counterpart, BQP. Later, G. Brassard and P. Høyer showed that Simons problem and its extended version can be solved by a deterministic polynomial time quantum algorithm. That is, these problems are in the class EQP. In this paper, we show that Simons problem and its extended version can be deterministically solved in a simpler and more concrete way than that proposed by G. Brassard and P. Høyer.  相似文献

In Pninis grammar of Sanskrit one finds the ivastras, a table which defines the natural classes of phonological segments in Sanskrit by intervals. We present a formal argument which shows that, using his representation method, Pninis way of ordering the phonological segments to represent the natural classes is optimal. The argument is based on a strictly set-theoretical point of view depending only on the set of natural classes and does not explicitly take into account the phonological features of the segments, which are, however, implicitly given in the way a language clusters its phonological inventory. The key idea is to link the graph of the Hasse-diagram of the set of natural classes closed under intersection to ivastra-style representations of the classes. Moreover, the argument is so general that it allows one to decide for each set of sets whether it can be represented with Pninis method. Actually, Pnini had to modify the set of natural classes to define it by the ivastras (the segment h plays a special role). We show that this modification was necessary and, in fact, the best possible modification. We discuss how every set of classes can be modified in such a way that it can be defined in a ivastra-style representation.1  相似文献

Games such as CHESS, GO and OTHELLO can be represented by minimax game trees. Among various search procedures to solve such game trees,- and SSS* are perhaps most well known. Although it is proved that SSS* explores only a subset of the nodes explored by-, - is commonly believed to be faster in real applications, since it requires very little memory space and hence its storage management cost is low. Contrary to this folklore, however, this paper reports, using the OTHELLO game as an example, that SSS* is much faster than-. It is also demonstrated that SSS* can be modified to make the required memory space controllable to some extent, while retaining the high efficiency of the original SSS*.This research was partially supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of Japan, under a Scientific Grant-in-Aid.  相似文献

We consider alternative scale space representations beyond the well-established Gaussian case that satisfy all reasonable axioms. One of these turns out to be subject to a first order pseudo partial differential equation equivalent to the Laplace equation on the upper half plane {(x, s) d × | s > 0}. We investigate this so-called Poisson scale space and show that it is indeed a viable alternative to Gaussian scale space. Poisson and Gaussian scale space are related via a one-parameter class of operationally well-defined intermediate representations generated by a fractional power of (minus) the spatial Laplace operator.  相似文献

Logical Comparison of Inconsistent Perspectives using Scoring Functions   总被引:3,自引:1,他引:2  
The language for describing inconsistency is underdeveloped. If a database (a set of formulae) is inconsistent, there is usually no qualification of that inconsistency. Yet, it would seem useful to be able to say how inconsistent a database is, or to say whether one database is more inconsistent than another database. In this paper, we provide a more general characterization of inconsistency in terms of a scoring function for each database . A scoring function S is from the power set of into the natural numbers defined so that S() gives the number of minimally inconsistent subsets of that would be eliminated if the subset was removed from . This characterization offers an expressive and succinct means for articulating, in general terms, the nature of inconsistency in a set of formulae. We then compare databases using their scoring functions. This gives an intuitive ordering relation over databases that we can describe as more inconsistent than. These techniques are potentially useful in a wide range of problems including monitoring progress in negotiations between a number of participants, and in comparing heterogeneous sources of information.  相似文献

On improving the accuracy of the Hough transform   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The subject of this paper is very high precision parameter estimation using the Hough transform. We identify various problems that adversely affect the accuracy of the Hough transform and propose a new, high accuracy method that consists of smoothing the Hough arrayH(, ) prior to finding its peak location and interpolating about this peak to find a final sub-bucket peak. We also investigate the effect of the quantizations and ofH(, ) on the final accuracy. We consider in detail the case of finding the parameters of a straight line. Using extensive simulation and a number of experiments on calibrated targets, we compare the accuracy of the method with results from the standard Hough transform method of taking the quantized peak coordinates, with results from taking the centroid about the peak, and with results from least squares fitting. The largest set of simulations cover a range of line lengths and Gaussian zero-mean noise distributions. This noise model is ideally suited to the least squares method, and yet the results from the method compare favorably. Compared to the centroid or to standard Hough estimates, the results are significantly better—for the standard Hough estimates by a factor of 3 to 10. In addition, the simulations show that as and are increased (i.e., made coarser), the sub-bucket interpolation maintains a high level of accuracy. Experiments using real images are also described, and in these the new method has errors smaller by a factor of 3 or more compared to the standard Hough estimates.  相似文献

The training time of ANN depends on size of ANN (i.e. number of hidden layers and number of neurons in each layer), size of training data, their normalization range and type of mapping of training patterns (like X–Y, X–Y, X–Y and X–Y), error functions and learning algorithms. The efforts have been done in past to reduce training time of ANN by selection of an optimal network and modification in learning algorithms. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop a new neuron model using neuro-fuzzy approach to overcome the problems of ANN incorporating the features of fuzzy systems at a neuron level. Fuzzifying the neuron structure, which incorporates the features of simple neuron as well as high order neuron, has used this synergetic approach.  相似文献

This paper presents a detailed study of Eurotra Machine Translation engines, namely the mainstream Eurotra software known as the E-Framework, and two unofficial spin-offs – the C,A,T and Relaxed Compositionality translator notations – with regard to how these systems handle hard cases, and in particular their ability to handle combinations of such problems. In the C,A,T translator notation, some cases of complex transfer are wild, meaning roughly that they interact badly when presented with other complex cases in the same sentence. The effect of this is that each combination of a wild case and another complex case needs ad hoc treatment. The E-Framework is the same as the C,A,T notation in this respect. In general, the E-Framework is equivalent to the C,A,T notation for the task of transfer. The Relaxed Compositionality translator notation is able to handle each wild case (bar one exception) with a single rule even where it appears in the same sentence as other complex cases.  相似文献

Reduction, equality, and unification are studied for a family of simply typed -calculi with subtypes. The subtype relation is required to relate base types only to base types and to satisfy some order-theoretic conditions. Constants are required to have a least type, that is, no overloading. We define the usual and a subtype-dependent -reduction. These are related to a typed equality relation and shown to be confluent in a certain sense. We present a generic algorithm for preunification modulo -conversion and an arbitrary subtype relation. Furthermore it is shown that unification with respect to any subtype relation is universal.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a statistical method to automaticallyextract collocations from Korean POS-tagged corpus. Since a large portion of language is represented by collocation patterns, the collocational knowledge provides a valuable resource for NLP applications. One difficulty of collocation extraction is that Korean has a partially free word order, which also appears in collocations. In this work, we exploit four statistics, frequency,randomness, convergence, and correlation' in order to take into account the flexible word order of Korean collocations. We separate meaningful bigrams using an evaluation function based on the four statistics and extend the bigrams to n-gram collocations using a fuzzy relation. Experiments show that this method works well for Korean collocations.  相似文献

This paper proposes an effective method for reducing test data volume under multiple scan chain designs. The proposed method is based on reduction of distinct scan vectors using selective don‘t-care identification. Selective don‘t-care identification is repeatedly executed under condition that each bit of frequent scan vectors is fixed to binary values (0 or1). Besides, a code extension technique is adopted for improving compression efficiency with keeping decompressor circuits simple in the manner that the code length for infrequent scan vectors is designed as double of that for frequent ones. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown through experiments for ISCAS‘89 and ITC‘99 benchmark circuits.  相似文献

In this paper we define an extension ofF [CUG92] to which we add functions that dispatch on different terms according to the type they receive as argument. In other words, we enrich the explicit parametric polymorphism ofF by an explicit ad hoc polymorphism (according the classification of [Str67]). We prove that the calculus we obtain, calledF & , enjoys the properties of Church-Rosser and Subject Reduction and that its proof system is coherent. We also define a significant subcalculus for which the subtyping is decidable. This extension has not only a logical interest but it is strongly motivated by the foundation of a broadly used programming style: object-oriented programming. We introduce a calculus which is a direct extension of both the and the calculi. We give a simple type system for it, that encompasses both Curry's type inference for the -calculus, and Milner's sorting for the -calculus as particular cases of typing. We observe that the various continuation passing style transformations for -terms, written in our calculus, actually correspond to encodings already given by Milner and others for evaluation strategies of -terms into the -calculus. Furthermore, the associated sortings correspond to well-known double negation translations on types. Finally we provide an adequate CPS transform from our calculus to the -calculus. This shows that the latter may be regarded as an assembly language, while our calculus seems to provide a better programming notation for higher-order concurrency. This paper considers two classes of infinite-dimensional systems described by an abstract differential equationx (t) = (A + BC)x(t),x(0) =x 0, on a Hilbert space, whereA, B, C are linear, possibly unbounded operators and is an unknown, linear, bounded perturbation. The two classes of systems are defined in terms of properties imposed on the triple (A, B, C). In this paper we deepen Mundici's analysis on reducibility of the decision problem from infinite-valued ukasiewicz logic to a suitable m-valued ukasiewicz logic m , where m only depends on the length of the formulas to be proved. Using geometrical arguments we find a better upper bound for the least integer m such that a formula is valid in if and only if it is also valid in m. We also reduce the notion of logical consequence in to the same notion in a suitable finite set of finite-valued ukasiewicz logics. Finally, we define an analytic and internal sequent calculus for infinite-valued ukasiewicz logic.  相似文献

The proofs of the Church–Rosser theorems for , , and reduction in untyped -calculus are formalized in Isabelle/HOL, an implementation of Higher Order Logic in the generic theorem prover Isabelle. For -reduction, both the standard proof and Takahashi's are given and compared. This paper proposes the use of accessible information (data/knowledge) to infer inaccessible data in a distributed database system. Inference rules are extracted from databases by means of knowledge discovery techniques. These rules can derive inaccessible data due to a site failure or network partition in a distributed system. Such query answering requires combining incomplete and partial information from multiple sources. The derived answer may be exact or approximate. Our inference process involves two phases to reason with reconstructed information. One phase involves using local rules to infer inaccessible data. A second phase involves merging information from different sites. We shall call such reasoning processes cooperative data inference. Since the derived answer may be incomplete, new algebraic tools are developed for supporting operations on incomplete information. A weak criterion called toleration is introduced for evaluating the inferred results. The conditions that assure the correctness of combining partial results, known as sound inference paths, are developed. A solution is presented for terminating an iterative reasoning process on derived data from multiple knowledge sources. The proposed approach has been implemented on a cooperative distributed database testbed, CoBase, at UCLA. We present MMC, a model checker for mobile systems specified in the style of the -calculus. MMCs development builds on that of XMC, a model checker for an expressive extension of Milners value-passing calculus implemented using the XSB tabled logic-programming engine. MMC addresses the salient issues that arise in the -calculus, including scope extrusion and intrusion and dynamic generation of new names to avoid name capture. We show that logic programming provides an efficient implementation platform for model checking -calculus specifications and can be used to obtain an exact encoding of the -calculuss transitional semantics. Moreover, MMC is easily extended to handle process expressions in the spi-calculus of Abadi and Gordon. Our experimental data show that MMC outperforms other known tools for model checking the -calculus.  相似文献

The Gelfond-Lifschitz operator associated with a logic program (and likewise the operator associated with default theories by Reiter) exhibits oscillating behavior. In the case of logic programs, there is always at least one finite, nonempty collection of Herbrand interpretations around which the Gelfond-Lifschitz operator bounces around. The same phenomenon occurs with default logic when Reiter's operator is considered. Based on this, a stable class semantics and extension class semantics has been proposed. The main advantage of this semantics was that it was defined for all logic programs (and default theories), and that this definition was modelled using the standard operators existing in the literature such as Reiter's operator. In this paper our primary aim is to prove that there is a very interestingduality between stable class theory and the well-founded semantics for logic programming. In the stable class semantics, classes that were minimal with respect to Smyth's power-domain ordering were selected. We show that the well-founded semantics precisely corresponds to a class that is minimal w.r.t. Hoare's power domain ordering: the well-known dual of Smyth's ordering. Besides this elegant duality, this immediately suggests how to define a well-founded semantics for default logic in such a way that the dualities that hold for logic programming continue to hold for default theories. We show how the same technique may be applied to strong autoepistemic logic: the logic of strong expansions proposed by Marek and Truszczynski.  相似文献
