建立了一个多信号共存情形下宽带碲基掺铒光纤放大器(EDTFA)四能级模型,系统研究了EDTFA 增益谱随着光纤激活长度、输入信号功率、泵浦功率和纤芯掺杂浓度的演变关系。研究表明,在输入信号功率减小、泵浦功率提高时,C 波段信号增益迅速增大;在光纤长度增长、掺杂浓度提高时,增益谱向 L 波段偏移;在小信号状态下,其 20dB 增益带宽大于 80nm。研究揭示了EDTFA 适合于作为 WDM 系统中的 L 波段和 C L 波段光纤放大器。  相似文献

A thermally tunable erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) gain equalizer filter based on compact point symmetric cascaded Mach-Zehnder (CMZ) coupler is presented with its mathematical model and is found to be polarization dependent due to stress anisotropy caused by local heating for thermo-optic phase change from its mathematical analysis. A thermo-optic delay line structure with a stress releasing groove is proposed and designed for the reduction of polarization dependent characteristics of the high index contrast point symmetric delay line structure of the device. It is found from thermal analysis by using an implicit finite difference method that temperature gradients of the proposed structure, which mainly causes the release of stress anisotropy, is approximately nine times more than that of the conventional structure. It is also seen that the EDFA gain equalized spectrum by using the point symmetric CMZ device based on the proposed structure is almost polarization independent.  相似文献

We present a stable and switchable dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser. In the ring cavity, an inverse-Gaussian apodized fiber Bragg grating serves as an ultranarrow dual-wavelength passband filter, a semiconductor optical amplifier biased in the low-gain regime reduces the gain competition of the two wavelengths, and a feedback fiber loop acts as a mode filter to guarantee a stable single-longitudinal-mode operation. Two lasing lines with a wavelength separation of approximately 0.1 nm are obtained experimentally. A microwave signal at 12.51 GHz is demonstrated by beating the dual wavelengths at a photodetector.  相似文献

We propose a simple procedure for designing an integrated single-chip grating-based thin-film filter. A simulation from a rigorous coupled-wave analysis shows that structural adjustment based on the effective medium theory can achieve the desired integration without notable performance degradation. Our spectropolarimetric filter design maintains spectral filter characteristics, while its extinction ratio is significantly enhanced over the passband. The integrated spectropolarimetric filter can be a basis for building multispectral multipolarimetric filters for spectropolarimetry in remote-sensing applications.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate that the stability of cw and mode-locked erbium-doped fiber ring lasers can be improved significantly with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) inside the cavity. The fast saturable gain of the SOA suppresses significantly the self-pulsing that is due to ion pairs in the erbium-doped fiber, which acts as a saturable absorber. A linear stabilization analysis of the laser system agrees with our experimental results.  相似文献

Thin-film interference has been observed in the transmittance of a filter consisting of 263.5-nm-thick magnesium with a 32.2-nm-thick aluminum layer on each side. The transmittance, measured by synchrotron radiation, has an oscillatory behavior in the 25-70-nm wavelength range. On the basis of the calculation of the transmittance, the oscillatory behavior results from interference associated with the relatively transmissive magnesium and aluminum layers and the reflection from the oxidized aluminum surface layers. The bandpass performance of magnesium and aluminum layers deposited on a silicon photodiode detector is presented.  相似文献

通过优化铒光纤长度,获得了平坦谱宽达30nm(0.7dB)的L波段超荧光光源,该光源具有7.21dBm的输出功率。在此基础上,研究L波段放大器增益特性,通过对铒光纤长度的进一步优化,用1480nm激光器作前向泵浦源,实验上获得了波长从1565nm~1595nm范围平坦的增益带宽,小信号增益可达22dB。  相似文献

利用Er3 离子四能级结构速率方程组和光功率传输方程组,数值模拟了铋基掺铒光纤放大器(EDFA)的增益及噪声特性,模拟结果与实验报道结果取得了很好的一致。同时,详尽地分析了增益及噪声特性与光纤长度、泵浦功率和输入信号功率的关系,优化了放大器的性能,从理论上得出一个20dB增益带宽达76nm、噪声系数接近4dB的铋基EDFA。研究表明了铋基掺铒光纤放大器适合用作于现代DWDM系统中C L波段的光纤放大器。  相似文献

A new structure for the L-band multiwavelength switchable erbium-doped fiber laser is proposed. Overlapping laser cavities are formed by cascading fiber Bragg gratings as reflectors in a ring structure with a C-band EDFA as a common gain medium. The proposed laser is made to be wavelength-switchable by individually adjusting the loss of each overlapping cavity. Instead of using an L-band EDFA as the gain medium in the L-band fiber laser, we have experimentally demonstrated that by tailoring the gain of the C-band EDFA to have a significant gain tilt in the L-band, a lasing power efficiency of 26% can be achieved over a wide range of switchable lasing wavelengths. Following this optimal design, the side-mode suppression ratio and the minimal separation between two switchable lasing wavelengths were found to be over 42 dB and 0.33 nm, respectively.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a novel sensor by using a single-fiber Bragg grating that can simultaneously measure strain and temperature with the aid of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier. By using a linear variation in the amplified spontaneous emission power of the erbium-doped fiber amplifier with temperature, we determine the temperature. By subtracting the temperature effect from the fiber Bragg grating Bragg wavelength shift, we determine the strain. Experiments show rms deviations of 18.2 muepsilon and 0.7 degrees C for strain and temperature, respectively.  相似文献

A tapered fiber is fabricated by heating and stretching a piece of optical fiber after the polymer protective cladding has been removed. An equidistant comb-like transmission spectrum, with a spacing of 1.6?nm and an extinction ratio of more than 5?dB, was obtained by the tapered fiber due to the multibeam interferences of the cladding modes. The tapered fiber was applied in a ring erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) to generate dual-wavelength lasing oscillations. The EDFL operates at wavelengths of 1557.0?nm and 1558.6?nm with a stable peak power and a signal-to-noise ratio of more than 40?dB.  相似文献

A novel spectrometer that is based on the use of the thermal lens effect for sensitive measurements of absorption in the near-IR region has been developed. In this instrument the near-IR excitation light (from 1515 to 1590 nm) was provided by an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA). An acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) was used to spectrally disperse the light from the EDFA. The AOTF was used in a new configuration in which, instead of the diffracted light, the transmitted light was used. The heat generated as a consequence of the absorption of the near-IR excitation beam by the sample was monitored by a He-Ne laser. The sensitivity of this spectrometer was found to be at least two to three times higher than that of conventional transmission measurements. Its application in the sensitive determination of nucleotides (adenosine, cytidine, guanosine, and thymidine) is described.  相似文献

Abstract

Amplification of multiwavelength signals by an erbium-doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) is becoming critical, due to the proliferation of wavelength division multiplexed systems. However, when a standard EDFA is employed, dissimilarities between signal gains may prove unacceptable. Thus, a novel gain-clamped EDFA is proposed here to tackle the issue of gain tilt, a measure of maximum gain difference. The suitability of the configuration is then investigated through a numerical model, which is developed based on the standard EDFA and fibre laser models.  相似文献

A high-performance multiple-channel erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated, using graphene-polymer nanocomposite as a multiwavelength equalizer and an asymmetric two-stage polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) Sagnac loop as a flexible comb filter. At first, the filtering characteristics of the PMF Sagnac loop filter (SLF) are investigated. Both theoretical and experimental results show that it can provide a flexibly switchable and tunable comblike filtering. Then, the two-stage PMF SLF is inserted into a graphene-assisted EDFL cavity for generating multiwavelength oscillation. The extreme-high third-order optical nonlinearity of graphene is exploited to suppress the mode competition of the EDFL, and a stable multiple-channel lasing is observed. By carefully adjusting the polarization controllers in the two-stage PMF SLF, not only can the lasing-line number per channel be switchable between single and multiple wavelengths, but also the wavelength spacing in the triple-wavelength condition can be tunable. In the case of triple wavelengths per channel, up to 12 wavelengths with four channels stable oscillations can be achieved. The multiple-channel EDFL can keep a high extinction ratio of >40 dB and a narrow linewidth of <0.01 nm.  相似文献

We report on the recovery of population inversion in a CW-pumped erbium-doped fiber amplifier. Spontaneous emissions after the input of signal pulses were temporally resolved. The recovery time for population inversion was estimated to be a few hundred microseconds. The pump power and signal width dependences of the recovery were measured. We discuss the dependences by applying an analytical formula derived for the temporal evolution of population inversion.  相似文献

We describe the experimental construction of a single-longitudinal-mode erbium-doped fiber ring laser equipped with a ring resonator filter. The system is designed to avoid mode hopping and can be frequency scanned for spectroscopic sensor applications. We modified a conventional ring resonator filter to have the capability to reduce transmittance of unwanted modes, which is essential for frequency scanning without mode hopping.  相似文献

基于Er/Tm共掺石英光纤的能级跃迁及能量转移特性,建立了Er3 /Tm3 共掺石英光纤放大器的理论模型。采用离散算法,计算了自发辐射输出功率谱和放大器的信号增益。结果表明,依据模型计算的正向自发辐射输出功率谱与实验结果基本一致;输出信号的3dB增益带宽随不同的光纤长度和泵浦功率而变化;当输入的泵浦功率为0.2W,信号功率为1μW时,Er3 /Tm3 共掺石英光纤放大器的3dB带宽可达到110nm。  相似文献

Broadband optical monitoring for thin-film filter manufacturing is more and more developed thanks to better performances of spectrometers with array detectors. We compare this optical monitoring with turning point monitoring and quartz monitoring of different designs. The sensitivity to thickness errors and to refractive index errors is evaluated. We show that real time determination of deposited thickness is a valuable criterion. We also present our experimental setup of transmittance and reflectance broadband optical monitoring. The use of a 400-1000 nm range combined with a signal-to-noise ratio of ~2500 in transmittance and 1000 in reflectance permits us to expect the manufacturing of high-performance non-quarter-wave designs. A first manufacturing of an 18-layer non-quarter-wave high-pass filter is provided.  相似文献
