To replace the conventional chemical bath deposition method, which is time‐consuming and has a high impurity level, a chemical single‐step deposition process employing a S/Sb ratio‐controlled SbCl3‐thiourea complex solution is introduced to load Sb2S3 into a mesoporous TiO2 electrode. This technique enables the fabrication of efficient and reproducible Sb2S3‐sensitzed inorganic–organic heterojunction hybrid solar cells with hole‐conducting conjugated polymers. The most efficient cell exhibits a short‐circuit current density of 16.1 mA cm?2, an open circuit voltage of 595.5 mV, and a fill factor of 66.5%, yielding a power conversion efficiency of ≈6.4% at standard AM1.5G condition (100 mW cm?2).  相似文献

A new colorless electrolyte containing an organic redox couple, tetramethylthiourea (TMTU) and its oxidized dimer tetramethylformaminium disulfide dication ([TMFDS]2+), is applied to dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Advantages of this redox couple include its non‐corrosive nature, low cost, and easy handling. More impressively, it operates well with carbon electrodes. The DSCs fabricated with a lab‐made HCS‐CB carbon counter‐electrode can present up to 3.1% power conversion efficiency under AM 1.5 illumination of 100 mW·cm?2 and 4.5% under weaker light intensities. This result distinctly outperforms the identical DSCs with a Pt electrode. Corrosive experiments reveal that Al and stainless steel (SS) sheets are stable in the [TMFDS]2+/TMTU‐based electrolyte. Its electrochemical impedance spectrum (EIS) is used to evaluate the influence of different counter‐electrodes on the cell performance, and preliminary investigations reveal that carbon electrodes with large surface areas and ideal corrosion‐inertness toward the sulfur‐containing [TMFDS]2+/TMTU redox couple exhibit promise for application in iodine‐free DSCs.  相似文献

High‐efficiency all‐solid‐state dye‐sensitized nanocrystalline solar cells have been fabricated using a poly(ethylene oxide)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PEO/PVDF)/TiO2‐nanoparticle polymer redox electrolyte, which yields an overall energy‐conversion efficiency of about 4.8 % under irradiation by white light (65.2 mW cm–2). The introduction of PVDF (which contains the highly electronegative element fluorine) and TiO2 nanoparticles into the PEO electrolyte increases the ionic conductivity (by about two orders of magnitude) and effectively reduces the recombination rate at the interface of the TiO2 and the solid‐state electrolyte, thus enhancing the performance of the solar cell.  相似文献

A new type of ruthenium complexes 6 – 8 with tridentate bipyridine–pyrazolate ancillary ligands has been synthesized in an attempt to elongate the π‐conjugated system as well as to increase the optical extinction coefficient, possible dye uptake on TiO2, and photostability. Structural characterization, photophysical studies, and corresponding theoretical approaches have been made to ensure their fundamental basis. As for dye‐sensitized solar cell applications, it was found that 6 – 8 possess a larger dye uptake of 2.4 × 10–7 mol cm–2, 1.5 × 10–7 mol cm–2, and 1.3 × 10–7 mol cm–2, respectively, on TiO2 than that of the commercial N3 dye (1.1 × 10–7 mol cm–2). Compound 8 works as a highly efficient photosensitizer for the dye‐sensitized nanocrystalline TiO2 solar cell, producing a 5.65 % solar‐light‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency (compare with 6.01 % for N3 in this study), a short‐circuit current density of 15.6 mA cm–2, an open‐circuit photovoltage of 0.64 V, and a fill factor of 0.57 under standard AM 1.5 irradiation (100 mW cm–2). These, in combination with its superior thermal and light‐soaking stability, lead to the conclusion that the concomitant tridentate binding properties offered by the bipyridine‐pyrazolate ligand render a more stable complexation, such that extended life spans of DSSCs may be expected.  相似文献

A new class of organic sulfide mediators with programmable redox properties is designed via density functional theory calculations and synthesized for efficient dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Photophysical and electrochemical properties of these mediators derived from systematical functionalization of the framework with electron donating and withdrawing groups (MeO, Me, H, Cl, CF3, and NO2) are investigated. With this new class of organic mediators, the redox potential can be fine‐tuned over a 170 mV range, overlapping the conventional I?/I3?couple. Due to the suitable interplay of physical properties and electrochemical characteristics of the mediator involving electron‐donating MeO group, the DSCs based on this mediator behave excellently in various kinetic processes such as dye regeneration, electron recombination, and mass transport. Thus, the MeO derivative of the mediator is identified as having the best performance of this series of redox shuttles. As inferred from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry measurements, the addition of graphene into the normal carbon counter electrode material dramatically improves the apparent catalytic activity of the counter electrode towards the MeO derivative of mediator, resulting in N719 based DSCs showing a promising conversion efficiency of 6.53% under 100 mW·cm?2 simulated sunlight illumination.  相似文献

Dopant‐free, carrier‐selective contacts (CSCs) on high efficiency silicon solar cells combine ease of deposition with potential optical benefits. Electron‐selective titanium dioxide (TiO2) contacts, one of the most promising dopant‐free CSC technologies, have been successfully implemented into silicon solar cells with an efficiency over 21%. Here, we report further progress of TiO2 contacts for silicon solar cells and present an assessment of their industrial feasibility. With improved TiO2 contact quality and cell processing, a remarkable efficiency of 22.1% has been achieved using an n‐type silicon solar cell featuring a full‐area TiO2 contact. Next, we demonstrate the compatibility of TiO2 contacts with an industrial contact‐firing process, its low performance sensitivity to the wafer resistivity, its applicability to ultrathin substrates as well as its long‐term stability. Our findings underscore the great appeal of TiO2 contacts for industrial implementation with their combination of high efficiency with robust fabrication at low cost. A novel heteroleptic RuII complex (BTC‐2) employing 5,5′‐(2,2′‐bipyridine‐4,4′‐diyl)‐bis(thiophene‐2‐carboxylic acid) (BTC) as the anchoring group and 4,4′‐ dinonyl‐2,2′‐bipiridyl and two thiocyanates as ligands is prepared. The photovoltaic performance and device stability achieved with this sensitizer are compared to those of the Z‐907 dye, which lacks the thiophene moieties. For thin mesoporous TiO2 films, the devices with BTC‐2 achieve higher power conversion efficiencies than those of Z‐907 but with a double‐layer thicker film the device performance is similar. Using a volatile electrolyte and a double layer 7 + 5 μm mesoporous TiO2 film, BTC‐2 achieves a solar‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency of 9.1% under standard global AM 1.5 sunlight. Using this sensitizer in combination with a low volatile electrolyte, a photovoltaic efficiency of 8.3% is obtained under standard global AM 1.5 sunlight. These devices show excellent stability when subjected to light soaking at 60 °C for 1000 h. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and transient photovoltage decay measurements are performed to help understand the changes in the photovoltaic parameters during the aging process. In solid state dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) using an organic hole‐transporting material (spiro‐MeOTAD, 2,2′,7,7′‐tetrakis‐(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenylamine)‐9,9′‐spirobifluorene), the BTC‐2 sensitizer exhibits an overall power conversion efficiency of 3.6% under AM 1.5 solar (100 mW cm?2) irradiation.  相似文献

Dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSC) are a realistic option for converting light to electrical energy. Hybrid architectures offer a vast materials library for device optimization, including a variety of metal oxides, organic and inorganic sensitizers, molecular, polymeric and electrolytic hole‐transporter materials. In order to further improve the efficiency of solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells, recent attention has focused on using light absorbing polymers such as poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT), to replace the more commonly used “transparent” 2,2′,7,7′‐tetrakis‐(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenyl‐amine)9,9′spiro‐bifluorene (spiro‐OMeTAD), in order to enhance the light absorption within thin films. As is the case with spiro‐OMeTAD based solid‐state DSSC, the P3HT‐based devices improve significantly with the addition of lithium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide salts (Li‐TFSI), although the precise role of these additives has not yet been clarified in solid‐state DSCs. Here, we present a thorough study on the effect of Li‐TFSI in P3HT based solid‐state DSSC incorporating an indolene‐based organic sensitizer termed D102. Employing ultrafast transient absorption and cw‐emission spectroscopy together with electronic measurements, we demonstrate a fine tuning of the energetic landscape of the active cell components by the local Coulomb field induced by the ions. This increases the charge transfer nature of the excited state on the dye, significantly accelerating electron injection into the TiO2. We demonstrate that this ionic influence on the excited state energy is the primary reason for enhanced charge generation with the addition of ionic additives. The deepening of the relative position of the TiO2 conduction band, which has previously been thought to be the cause for enhanced charge generation in dye sensitized solar cells with the addition of lithium salts, appears to be of minor importance in this system.  相似文献

Membranes are among the most promising means of delivering increased supplies of fit‐for‐purpose water, but membrane fouling remains a critical issue restricting their widespread application. Coupling photocatalysis with membrane separation has been proposed as a potentially effective approach to reduce membrane fouling. However, commonly used materials in photocatalysis limit use of low‐cost sources such as sunlight due to their large bandgaps. There are few examples of in situ photocatalytic self‐cleaning of membranes, with removal from the filtration system and ex situ illumination being more common. In this work, a visible‐light‐activated photocatalytic film prepared by nitrogen doping into the lattice of TiO2 is deposited on commercial ceramic membranes via atomic layer deposition. The synergy between membrane separation and redox reactions between organic pollutants and reactive oxygen species produced by the visible‐light‐activated layer offers a possibility for stable and sustainable membrane operation under in situ solar irradiation.  相似文献

Hybrid bulk heterojunction solar cells based on nanocrystalline TiO2 (nc‐TiO2) nanorods capped with trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) and regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) are processed from solution and characterized in order to relate the device function (optical absorption, charge separation, and transport and photovoltaic properties) to active‐layer properties and device parameters. Annealing the blend films is found to greatly improve the polymer–metal oxide interaction at the nc‐TiO2/P3HT interface, resulting in a six‐fold increase of the charge separation yield and improved photovoltaic device performance under simulated solar illumination. In addition, the influence of the organic ligand at the nc‐TiO2 particle surface is found to be crucial for charge separation. Ligand‐exchange procedures applied on the TOPO‐capped nc‐TiO2 nanorods with an amphiphilic ruthenium‐based dye are found to further improve the charge‐separation yield at the polymer–nanocrystal interface. However, the poor photocurrents generated in the hybrid blend devices, before and after ligand exchange, suggest that transport within or between nanoparticles limits performance. By comparison with other donor–acceptor bulk heterojunction systems, we conclude that charge transport in the nc‐TiO2:P3HT blend films is limited by the presence of an intrinsic trap distribution mainly associated with the nc‐TiO2 particles.  相似文献

In this study, highly mesoporous TiO2 composite photoanodes composed of functional {001}‐faceted TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) and commercially available 20 nm TiO2 NPs are employed in efficient porphyrin‐sensitized solar cells together with cobalt polypyridyl‐based mediators. Large TiO2 NPs (approximately 50 nm) with exposed {001} facets are prepared using a fast microwave‐assisted hydrothermal (FMAH) method. These unique composite photoanodes favorably mitigate the aggregation of porphyrin on the surface of TiO2 NPs and strongly facilitate the mass transport of cobalt‐polypyridyl‐based electrolytes in the mesoporous structure. Linear sweep voltammetry reveals that the transportation of Co(polypyridyl) redox is a diffusion‐controlled process, which is highly dependent on the porosity of TiO2 films. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy confirms that the FMAH TiO2 NPs effectively suppress the interfacial charge recombination toward [Co(bpy)3]3+ because of their oxidative {001} facets. In an optimal condition of 40 wt% addition of FMAH TiO2 NPs in the final formula, the power conversion efficiency of the dye‐sensitized cells improves from 8.28% to 9.53% under AM1.5 (1 sun) conditions.  相似文献

Despite recent progress in photo‐electrochemical (PEC) water oxidation systems for TiO2‐based photoanodes, PEC performance improvement is still seriously hampered due to poor carrier transport efficiency and sluggish surface water oxidation kinetics of pristine TiO2. Herein, for the first time a brand new metal–organic framework (MOF)‐derived Co3C nanosheet with narrow bandgap energy is demonstrated, to effectively sensitize TiO2 hollow cages as a heterostructure photoanode for PEC water oxidation. It is found that MOF‐derived Co3C nanosheet with narrow bandgap characteristic can simultaneously accelerate the surface water oxidation kinetics and extend the light harvesting range of pristine TiO2. Meanwhile, a uniquely matched type‐II heterojunction constructed between MOF‐derived Co3C and TiO2 results in an evidently spontaneous e?/h+ separation. MOF‐derived Co3C/TiO2 heterostructure photoanodes bring about drastically improved PEC water oxidation performance. Specifically, MOF‐derived Co3C‐3/TiO2 photoanode with an optimized content of Co3C achieves the highest photocurrent density and charge separation efficiency of 2.6 mA cm?2 and 92.6% at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode, corresponding to 201% and 152% improvement compared with pristine TiO2 nanocages. The ingeniously prepared MOF‐derived Co3C carbide with narrow bandgap energy as a cocatalyst paves new way to construct potentially high performance solar‐energy conversion system.  相似文献

A quasi‐solid‐state, dye‐sensitized photoelectrochemical solar cell employing a gel electrolyte obtained by sol–gel chemistry is described. The gel electrolyte is based on a ureasil precursor (i.e., a poly(propylene oxide) oligomer end‐capped by triethoxysilane groups through urea bridges) and sulfolane and it incorporates the I3/I redox couple. It is shown that the combination of these two reagents prevents crystallization of KI, thus ensuring a long life for the cell and a satisfactory overall efficiency that surpasses 5 %. Cell efficiency increases with temperature. Optimization of gel‐electrolyte performance has been obtained by studying mobility with fluorescence‐quenching techniques complemented by direct‐current conductivity measurements.  相似文献

Novel conjugated organic dyes that have N,N‐dimethylaniline (DMA) moieties as the electron donor and a cyanoacetic acid (CAA) moiety as the electron acceptor were developed for use in dye‐sensitized nanocrystalline‐TiO2 solar cells (DSSCs). We attained a maximum solar‐energy‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency (η) of 6.8 % under AM 1.5 irradiation (100 mW cm–2) with a DSSC based on 2‐cyano‐7,7‐bis(4‐dimethylamino‐phenyl)hepta‐2,4,6‐trienoic acid (NKX‐2569): short‐circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) = 12.9 mA cm–2, open‐circuit voltage (Voc) = 0.71 V, and fill factor (ff) = 0.74. The high performance of the solar cells indicated that highly efficient electron injection from the excited dyes to the conduction band of TiO2 occurred. The experimental and calculated Fourier‐transform infrared (FT‐IR) absorption spectra clearly showed that these dyes were adsorbed on the TiO2 surface with the carboxylate coordination form. A molecular‐orbital calculation indicated that the electron distribution moved from the DMA moiety to the CAA moiety by photoexcitation of the dye.  相似文献

In this paper, a way of utilizing thin and conformal overlayer of titanium dioxide on an insulating mesoporous template as a photoanode for dye‐sensitized solar cells is presented. Different thicknesses of TiO2 ranging from 1 to 15 nm are deposited on the surface of the template by atomic layer deposition. This systematic study helps unraveling the minimum critical thickness of the TiO2 overlayer required to transport the photogenerated electrons efficiently. A merely 6‐nm‐thick TiO2 film on a 3‐μm mesoporous insulating substrate is shown to transport 8 mA/cm2 of photocurrent density along with ≈900 mV of open‐circuit potential when using our standard donor‐π‐acceptor sensitizer and Co(bipyridine) redox mediator.  相似文献

Hybrid dye‐sensitized solar cells are typically composed of mesoporous titania (TiO2), light‐harvesting dyes, and organic molecular hole‐transporters. Correctly matching the electronic properties of the materials is critical to ensure efficient device operation. In this study, TiO2 is synthesized in a well‐defined morphological confinement that arises from the self‐assembly of a diblock copolymer—poly(isoprene‐b‐ethylene oxide) (PI‐b‐PEO). The crystallization environment, tuned by the inorganic (TiO2 mass) to organic (polymer) ratio, is shown to be a decisive factor in determining the distribution of sub‐bandgap electronic states and the associated electronic function in solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells. Interestingly, the tuning of the sub‐bandgap states does not appear to strongly influence the charge transport and recombination in the devices. However, increasing the depth and breadth of the density of sub‐bandgap states correlates well with an increase in photocurrent generation, suggesting that a high density of these sub‐bandgap states is critical for efficient photo‐induced electron transfer and charge separation.  相似文献

Lead sulfide (PbS) and cadmium sulfide (CdS) quantum dots (QDs) are prepared over mesoporous TiO2 films by a successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) process. These QDs are exploited as a sensitizer in solid‐state solar cells with 2,2′,7,7′‐tetrakis(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenylamine)‐9,9′‐spirobifluorene (spiro‐OMeTAD) as a hole conductor. High‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images reveal that PbS QDs of around 3 nm in size are distributed homogeneously over the TiO2 surface and are well separated from each other if prepared under common SILAR deposition conditions. The pore size of the TiO2 films and the deposition medium are found to be very critical in determining the overall performance of the solid‐state QD cells. By incorporating promising inorganic QDs (PbS) and an organic hole conductor spiro‐OMeTAD into the solid‐state cells, it is possible to attain an efficiency of over 1% for PbS‐sensitized solid‐state cells after some optimizations. The optimized deposition cycle of the SILAR process for PbS QDs has also been confirmed by transient spectroscopic studies on the hole generation of spiro‐OMeTAD. In addition, it is established that the PbS QD layer plays a role in mediating the interfacial recombination between the spiro‐OMeTAD+ cation and the TiO2 conduction band electron, and that the lifetime of these species can change by around 2 orders of magnitude by varying the number of SILAR cycles used. When a near infrared (NIR)‐absorbing zinc carboxyphthalocyanine dye (TT1) is added on top of the PbS‐sensitized electrode to obtain a panchromatic response, two signals from each component are observed, which results in an improved efficiency. In particular, when a CdS‐sensitized electrode is first prepared, and then co‐sensitized with a squarine dye (SQ1), the resulting color change is clearly an addition of each component and the overall efficiencies are also added in a more synergistic way than those in PbS/TT1‐modified cells because of favorable charge‐transfer energetics.  相似文献

Submicrometer‐sized (830 ± 40 nm) mesoporous TiO2 beads are used to form a scattering layer on top of a transparent, 6‐µm‐thick, nanocrystalline TiO2 film. According to the Mie theory, the large beads scatter light in the region of 600–800 nm. In addition, the mesoporous structure offers a high surface area, 89.1 m2 g?1, which allows high dye loading. The dual functions of light scattering and electrode participation make the mesoporous TiO2 beads superior candidates for the scattering layer in dye‐sensitized solar cells. A high efficiency of 8.84% was achieved with the mesoporous beads as a scattering layer, compared with an efficiency of 7.87% for the electrode with the scattering layer of 400‐nm TiO2 of similar thickness.  相似文献

Titanium dioxide is shown to afford good passivation to non‐diffused silicon surfaces and boron‐diffused surfaces after a low‐temperature anneal. The passivation most likely owes to the significant levels of negative charge instilled in the films, and passivation is enhanced by illumination—advantageous for solar cells—indicating that a titanium dioxide photoreaction is at least partly responsible for the low surface recombination. We demonstrate a surface recombination velocity of less than 30 cm/s, on a 5‐Ω cm n‐type silicon, and an emitter saturation current density of 90 fA/cm2 on a 200‐Ω/sq boron diffusion. If these titanium dioxide passivated boron‐diffused surfaces were employed in a crystalline silicon solar cell, an open‐circuit voltage as high as 685 mV could be achieved. Given that TiO2 has a high refractive index and was deposited with atmospheric pressure chemical vapour deposition, an inexpensive technique, it has the potential as a passivating antireflection coating for industrial boron‐diffused silicon solar cells. The light‐harvesting Sb2S3 surface on mesoporous‐TiO2 in inorganic–organic heterojunction solar cells is sulfurized with thioacetamide (TA). The photovoltaic performances are compared before and after TA treatment, and the state of the Sb2S3 is investigated by X‐ray diffraction, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and deep‐level transient spectroscopy (DLTS). Although there are no differences in crystallinity and composition, the TA‐treated solar cells exhibit significantly enhanced performance compared to pristine Sb2S3‐sensitized solar cells. From DLTS analysis, the performance enhancement is mainly attributed to the extinction of trap sites, which are present at a density of (2–5) × 1014 cm?3 in Sb2S3, by TA treatment. Through such a simple treatment, the cell records an overall power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 7.5% through a metal mask under simulated illumination (AM 1.5G, 100 mW cm–2) with a very high open circuit voltage of 711.0 mV. This PCE is, thus far, the highest reported for fully solid‐state chalcogenide‐sensitized solar cells.  相似文献
