This paper considers a two-stage hybrid flowshop scheduling problem in machine breakdown condition. By machine breakdown condition we mean that the machine may not always be available during the scheduling period. Machine failure may occur with a known probability after completing a job. Probability of machine failure depends on the previous processed job. The problem to be studied has one machine at the first stage and M parallel identical machines at the second stage. The objective is to find the optimal job combinations and the optimal job schedule such that the makespan is minimized. The proposed problem is compatible with a large scope of real world situations. To solve the problem, first, we introduce one optimal approach for job precedence when there is one machine in both stages and then provide a heuristic algorithm when there are M machines in stage two. To examine the performance of the heuristic, some experiments used are provided as well.  相似文献

We consider the problem of minimizing total completion time in a two-stage hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with dedicated machines at stage 2. There exist one machine at stage 1 and two machines at stage 2. Each job must be processed on the single machine at stage 1 and depending upon the job type, the job is processed on either of the two machines at stage 2.  相似文献

This paper considers a two-stage hybrid flow shop scheduling with dedicated machines at stage 1 with the objective of minimizing the total completion time. There exist two machines at stage 1 and one machine at stage 2. Each job must be processed on one of the two dedicated machines at stage 1 depending on the job type; subsequently, the job is processed on the single machine at stage 2.First, we introduce the problem and establish the complexity of the problem. For a special case in which the processing times on the machine at stage 2 are identical, an optimal solution is presented; for three special cases, we show that the decision version is unary NP-complete. For the general case, two simple and intuitive heuristics are introduced, and a worst case bound on the relative error is found for each of the heuristics. Finally, we empirically evaluate the heuristics, including an optimal algorithm for a special case.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of minimizing the makespan in a two-stage hybrid flow shop with dedicated machines at stage 1. There exist multiple machines at stage 1 and one machine at stage 2. Each job must be processed on a specified machine at stage 1 depending on job type, and then the job is processed on the single machine at stage 2.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem of preemptive scheduling in a two-stage flowshop with parallel unrelated machines at the first stage and a single machine at the second stage. At the first stage, jobs use some additional resources which are available in limited quantities at any time. The resource requirements are of 0–1 type. The objective is the minimization of makespan. The problem is NP-hard. Heuristic algorithms are proposed which solve to optimality the resource constrained scheduling problem at the first stage of the flowshop, and at the same time, minimize the makespan in the flowshop by selecting appropriate jobs for simultaneous processing. Several rules of job selection are considered. The performance of the proposed heuristic algorithms is analyzed by comparing solutions with the lower bound on the optimal makespan. The extensive computational experiment shows that the proposed heuristic algorithms are able to produce near-optimal solutions in short computational time.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider two new types of the two-machine flowshop scheduling problems where a batching machine is followed by a single machine. The first type is that normal jobs with transportation between machines are scheduled on the batching and single machines. The second type is that normal jobs are processed on the batching machine while deteriorating jobs are scheduled on the single machine. For the first type, we formulate the problem to minimize the makespan as a mixed integer programming model and prove that it is strongly NP-hard. Furthermore, a heuristic algorithm along with a worst case error bound is derived and the computational experiments are also carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed heuristic algorithm. For the second type, the two objectives are considered. For the problem with minimizing the makespan, we find an optimal polynomial algorithm. For the problem with minimizing the sum of completion time, we show that it is strongly NP-hard and propose an optimal polynomial algorithm for its special case.  相似文献

A scheduling system is proposed and developed for a special type of flow shop. In this flow shop there is one machine at each stage. A job may require multiple operations at each stage. The first operation of a job on stage j cannot start until the last operation of the job on stage j - 1 has finished. Pre-emption of the operations of a job is not allowed. The flow shop that the authors consider has another feature, namely time lags between the multiple operations of a job. To move from one operation of a job to another requires a finite amount of time. This time lag is independent of the sequence and need not be the same for all operations or jobs. During a time lag of a job, operations of other jobs may be processed. This problem originates from a flexible manufacturing system scheduling problem where, between operations of a job on the same workstation, refixturing of the parts has to take place in a load/unload station, accompanied by (manual) transportation activities. In this paper a scheduling system is proposed in which the inherent structure of this flow shop is used in the formulation of lowerbounds on the makespan. A number of lowerbounds are developed and discussed. The use of these bounds makes it possible to generate a schedule that minimizes makespan or to construct approximate solutions. Finally, some heuristic procedures for this type of flow shop are proposed and compared with some well-known heuristic scheduling rules for job shop/flow shop scheduling. An earlier version of this paper was presented at the First International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Production Management 1993, 2–4 June 1993, Mons, Belgium.  相似文献

We study a problem of scheduling a set of n jobs with unit processing times on a set of m multipurpose machines in which the objective is to minimize the makespan. It is assumed that there are two different job types, where each job type can be processed on a unique subset of machines. We provide an optimal offline algorithm to solve the problem in constant time and an online algorithm with a competitive ratio that equals the lower bound. We show that the worst competitive ratio is obtained for an inclusive job-machine structure in which the first job type can be processed on any of the m machines while the second job type can be processed only on a subset of m/2 machines. Moreover, we show that our online algorithm is 1-competitive if the machines are not flexible, i.e., each machine can process only a single job type.  相似文献

The scheduling problem in a multi-stage hybrid flowshop has been the subject of considerable research. All the studies on this subject assume that each job has to be processed on all the stages, i.e., there are no missing operations for a job at any stage. However, missing operations usually exist in many real-life production systems, such as a system in a stainless steel factory investigated in this note. The studied production system in the factory is composed of two stages in series. The first stage contains only one machine while the second stage consists of two identical machines (namely a 1 × 2 hybrid flowshop). In the system, some jobs have to be processed on both stages, but others need only to be processed on the second stage. Accordingly, the addressed scheduling problem is a 1 × 2 hybrid flowshop with missing operations at the first stage. In this note, we develop a heuristic for the problem to generate a non-permutation schedule (NPS) from a given permutation schedule, with the objective of minimizing the makespan. Computational results demonstrate that the heuristic can efficiently generate better NPS solutions.  相似文献

This paper presents several search heuristics and their performance in batch scheduling of parallel, unrelated machines. Identical or similar jobs are typically processed in batches in order to decrease setup times and/or processing times. The problem accounts for allotting batched work parts into unrelated parallel machines, where each batch consists of a fixed number of jobs. Some batches may contain different jobs but all jobs within each batch should have an identical processing time and a common due date. Processing time of each job of a batch is determined according to the machine group as well as the batch group to which the job belongs. Major or minor setup times are required between two subsequent batches depending on batch sequence but are independent of machines. The objective of our study is to minimize the total weighted tardiness for the unrelated parallel machine scheduling. Four search heuristics are proposed to address the problem, namely (1) the earliest weighted due date, (2) the shortest weighted processing time, (3) the two-level batch scheduling heuristic, and (4) the simulated annealing method. These proposed local search heuristics are tested through computational experiments with data from dicing operations of a compound semiconductor manufacturing facility.  相似文献

This paper addresses the scheduling problem of minimizing maximum earliness (or more generally — maximizing minimum lateness) on parallel identical machines. We prove that the two-machine case is NP-hard in the ordinary sense, and introduce a pseudo-polynomial dynamic programming algorithm for this case. When the number of machines is arbitrary, the problem is shown to be NP-hard in the strong sense. Then we introduce an efficient heuristic and two simple upper bounds on the optimal minimum lateness value. Finally we provide an extensive numerical study which indicates that the heuristic performs well in various job and machine settings.Scope and purposeIn recent years many researchers have focused on minimizing both earliness and tardiness costs. Only a few studies have considered problems with (maximum or total) earliness as the sole performance measure. We believe that the earliness measure is appropriate for many real-life settings, where the main cost component is the earliness (inventory) cost, and the tardiness (positive lateness) cost component is negligible. Our paper studies the scheduling problem of minmax earliness on parallel identical machines: we analyze the complexity of the problem, and introduce an efficient heuristic and simple bounds on the optimal cost.  相似文献

This paper considers a two-stage hybrid flow shop scheduling problem for the objective of minimizing the number of tardy jobs. Each job is processed through the two production stages in series, each of which has multiple identical parallel machines. The problem is to determine the allocation of jobs to the parallel machines as well as the sequence of the jobs assigned to each machine. To solve the problem, a branch and bound algorithm, which incorporates the methods to obtain the lower and upper bounds as well as the dominance properties to reduce the search space, is suggested that gives the optimal solutions. In addition, two-phase heuristic algorithms are suggested to obtain good solutions for large-size problems within a reasonable amount of computation time. To show the performances of the optimal and heuristic algorithms suggested in this paper, computational experiments are done on a number of randomly generated test problems, and the test results are reported.  相似文献

Batch processing machines are frequently encountered in many industrial environments. A batch processing machine is one which can process several jobs simultaneously as a batch. The processing time of a batch is equal to the largest processing time of any job in the batch. This study deals with the problem of scheduling jobs in a flowshop with two batch processing machines such that the makespan is minimized. A heuristic based on Tabu search (TS) technique is proposed. The proposed heuristic is compared with a heuristic based on mixed integer linear programming (MILP). Because the complexity of the MILP-based heuristic is depended on the number of job batches, the comparison is under up-to-eight batches problem. In order to measure the proposed TS-based heuristic in larger batch problem, the relative error percentage with the lower bound (REPLB) is used. The results show that the proposed heuristic is efficient and effective for the problems with relative large job sizes.  相似文献

This paper aims at minimizing the total completion time together with the maximum lateness. Jobs are processed by parallel machines in batches. A setup is required before processing a batch, which is common for all jobs in the batch. Jobs are continuously processed after the setup time. The processing length of a batch is the sum of the setup time and processing times of the jobs it contains. Due to the availability constraint, the completion time of a job is the time when a batch is totally processed. Considering due dates, the jobs need to be processed in a way that the total completion time and the maximum lateness are minimized. This problem is a kind of NP-hard so first we present a constructive heuristic to solve the problem. Then we propose a genetic algorithm whose initial population is formed by using the heuristic approach. Computational experiments are carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms.  相似文献

This paper considers the identical parallel machines scheduling problem (PMSP) with a single server in charge of job setups. A job can be processed with a precedent setup by a server on one of the machines. The setup can be processed at only one machine at any time. In this paper, the problem P, S1|sj|Cmax with a general job set is formulated using mixed integer programming in two ways. The first one is developed by taking into account the characteristics of the single server problem, and the second one is developed by adding the concept of the server waiting time suggested by Abdekhodaee and Wirth (2002) [3]. Abdekhodaee and Wirth (2002) [3] define the equation of the server waiting time applied to only the special case with two machines and a regular job set. The general model for several machines is studied in this paper by developing the properties on the server waiting time. The hybrid heuristic algorithm is developed for the practical use, which can yield a near-optimal schedule in a reasonable computational time. The performance of algorithm is evaluated by comparing with the results of MIP models and heuristics appearing in the literature.  相似文献

This paper presents a three-stage algorithm for resource-aware scheduling of computational jobs in a large-scale heterogeneous data center. The algorithm aims to allocate job classes to machine configurations to attain an efficient mapping between job resource request profiles and machine resource capacity profiles. The first stage uses a queueing model that treats the system in an aggregated manner with pooled machines and jobs represented as a fluid flow. The latter two stages use combinatorial optimization techniques to solve a shorter-term, more accurate representation of the problem using the first-stage, long-term solution for heuristic guidance. In the second stage, jobs and machines are discretized. A linear programming model is used to obtain a solution to the discrete problem that maximizes the system capacity given a restriction on the job class and machine configuration pairings based on the solution of the first stage. The final stage is a scheduling policy that uses the solution from the second stage to guide the dispatching of arriving jobs to machines. We present experimental results of our algorithm on both Google workload trace data and generated data and show that it outperforms existing schedulers. These results illustrate the importance of considering heterogeneity of both job and machine configuration profiles in making effective scheduling decisions.

We study machine scheduling problems in which the jobs belong to different job classes and they need to be delivered to customers after processing. A setup time is required for a job if it is the first job to be processed on a machine or its processing on a machine follows a job that belongs to another class. Processed jobs are delivered in batches to their respective customers. The batch size is limited by the capacity of the delivery vehicles and each shipment incurs a transport cost and takes a fixed amount of time. The objective is to minimize the weighted sum of the last arrival time of jobs to customers and the delivery (transportation) cost. For the problem of processing jobs on a single machine and delivering them to multiple customers, we develop a dynamic programming algorithm to solve the problem optimally. For the problem of processing jobs on parallel machines and delivering them to a single customer, we propose a heuristic and analyze its performance bound.  相似文献

The flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP) is a generalization of the classical job shop scheduling problem (JSP), where each operation is allowed to be processed by any machine from a given set, rather than one specified machine. In this paper, two algorithm modules, namely hybrid harmony search (HHS) and large neighborhood search (LNS), are developed for the FJSP with makespan criterion. The HHS is an evolutionary-based algorithm with the memetic paradigm, while the LNS is typical of constraint-based approaches. To form a stronger search mechanism, an integrated search heuristic, denoted as HHS/LNS, is proposed for the FJSP based on the two algorithms, which starts with the HHS, and then the solution is further improved by the LNS. Computational simulations and comparisons demonstrate that the proposed HHS/LNS shows competitive performance with state-of-the-art algorithms on large-scale FJSP problems, and some new upper bounds among the unsolved benchmark instances have even been found.  相似文献

An extended version of the multiprocessor machine scheduling problem with makespan objective, which arises from single-hop multi-channel LANs, is presented in this paper. In this scheduling model, each job consists of two operations, and each operation may be processed by anyone of a given set of machines, while in the job shop scheduling problem, such a set contains only one machine. For this NP-complete problem, we first analyze the performance ratios of two simple strategies, List Scheduling and Longest Processing Time First, for the off-line cases, which have performance ratios (5/2−1/2m) and (2+1/2(m+1)), respectively, with (m+1) being the number of the machines. We also show that the competitive ratio of the List Scheduling strategy for the on-line cases is (7/2−1/2m).  相似文献
