This paper describes the 3-D array of scintillation detectors made of a plastic scintillator. Its operation is based on obtaining simultaneously the signal arrival time, spatial coordinates, and amplitude of scintillation signal produced in detection elements by radiation. Such arrays are capable of identifying and localizing neutron and gamma sources, discriminating signals from these sources, and reducing the background caused by gamma rays, cosmic-ray muons, and neutrons.  相似文献

We measure high-temporal-resolution time-of-flight distributions of picosecond laser pulses in the visible and near-infrared, scattered in the forward direction by solid and liquid phantoms, and compare them to those obtained by using ex vivo tissues. We demonstrate that time-of-flight distributions from solid phantoms made of Delrin, Nylon, and Teflon are modulated by ripples that are absent in the biological samples and disappear when the temporal and/or angular resolution of the measuring apparatus is decreased. This behavior prevents the use of such materials as tissue phantoms when spatial mode and time selection are required, such as in imaging methods exploiting early arriving photons.  相似文献

The mechanical performance of TRIP-120 a novel transformation induced plasticity steel alloy, is evaluated for different loading cases and strain rates. The performance is compared with HSLA-100, a low-alloy steel developed by the United States Navy and currently used in naval hulls. The response of these materials under uniaxial tension and shear was investigated to the point of fracture at isothermal and adiabatic conditions. TRIP-120 shows a significant improvement in dissipated energy at fracture compared to HSLA-100. SEM images of ductile fracture surfaces for tensile and torsion samples of both TRIP-120 and HSLA-100 are compared, and the presence of transformed martensite in the TRIP-120 dynamic torsion specimens is confirmed with optical microscopy and magnetometry.  相似文献

The premature failure mode of the nozzle unit in the plastic injection moulding machines was discovered to be cavitation erosion, rather than corrosion. The microscopic features of the cavitation erosion on the soft aluminium alloy have its own distinct characteristics. Three types of erosion pits in different size order have been discovered: a large round pit with very smooth surface are in the size range of 1–2 mm, small round overlapping pits in the pattern of parallel line are approximately 100 μm, and micro erosion pits are about 5 μm. These different size order erosion pits might be associated with the different size order of bubbles imploding. The root cause of the bubble formation was the alteration in surface tension and the vapour pressures due to the dosing chemicals in the coolant. The solution to the cavitation erosion with substituting stainless steel to aluminium alloy has been successful.  相似文献

Experimental data on the heat evolution in the course of plastic deformation of technical-purity niobium and iron are reported. Dependence of the dissipated heat Q on the relative deformation ε of Nb and Fe samples deformed in a microcalorimetric cell was traced. The Q(ε) curve exhibits regions corresponding to a virtually constant rate of the dissipative process (dQ/dε≈const). It is suggested that these regions reflect regular changes in the dislocation substructure and a multistage character of the plastic deformation process in both iron and niobium.  相似文献
