We present the energy use situation in Hong Kong from 1979 to 2001. The primary energy requirement (PER) nearly tripled during the 23-year period, rising from 195,405 TJ to 572,684 TJ. Most of the PER was used for electricity generation, and the electricity use in residential buildings rose from 7556 TJ (2099 GWh) to 32,799 TJ (9111 GWh), an increase of 334%. Air-conditioning accounted for about 40% of the total residential sector electricity consumption. A total of 144 buildings completed in the month of June during 1992–2001 were surveyed. Energy performance of the building envelopes was investigated in terms of the overall thermal transfer value (OTTV). To develop the appropriated parameters used in OTTV calculation, long-term measured weather data such as ambient temperature (1960–2001), horizontal global solar radiation (1992–2001) and global solar radiation on vertical surfaces (1996–2001) were examined. The OTTV found varied from 27 to 44 W/m2 with a mean value of 37.7  W/m2. Building energy simulation technique using DOE-2.1E was employed to determine the cooling requirements and hence electricity use for building envelope designs with different OTTVs. It was found that cooling loads and electricity use could be expressed in terms of a simple two-parameter linear regression equation involving OTTV.  相似文献

Previous estimates of environmental impacts associated with the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle (FEFC) have focused primarily on energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Results have varied widely. This work builds upon reports from operating facilities and other primary data sources to build a database of front end environmental impacts. This work also addresses land transformation and water withdrawals associated with the processes of the FEFC. These processes include uranium extraction, conversion, enrichment, fuel fabrication, depleted uranium disposition, and transportation. To allow summing the impacts across processes, all impacts were normalized per tonne of natural uranium mined as well as per MWh(e) of electricity produced, a more conventional unit for measuring environmental impacts that facilitates comparison with other studies. This conversion was based on mass balances and process efficiencies associated with the current once-through LWR fuel cycle.Total energy input is calculated at 8.7 × 10 3 GJ(e)/MWh(e) of electricity and 5.9 × 10 3 GJ(t)/MWh(e) of thermal energy. It is dominated by the energy required for uranium extraction, conversion to fluoride compound for subsequent enrichment, and enrichment. An estimate of the carbon footprint is made from the direct energy consumption at 1.7 kg CO2/MWh(e). Water use is likewise dominated by requirements of uranium extraction, totaling 154 L/MWh(e). Land use is calculated at 8 × 10 3 m2/MWh(e), over 90% of which is due to uranium extraction. Quantified impacts are limited to those resulting from activities performed within the FEFC process facilities (i.e. within the plant gates). Energy embodied in material inputs such as process chemicals and fuel cladding is identified but not explicitly quantified in this study. Inclusion of indirect energy associated with embodied energy as well as construction and decommissioning of facilities could increase the FEFC energy intensity estimate by a factor of up to 2.  相似文献

Australia is a country with a vast amount of natural resources including sun and wind. Australia lies between latitude of 10–45°S and longitude of 112–152°E, with a daily solar exposure of between less than 3 MJ/(m2 day) in winter and more than 30 MJ/(m2 day) in summer.Global solar radiation in Australia varies between minimum of 3285 MJ/(m2 year) in Hobart to 8760 MJ/(m2 year) in Northern Territory. As a result of this wide range of radiation level there will be a big difference between costs of solar PV electricity in different locations.A study we have recently conducted on the solar PV electricity price in all states of Australia. For this purpose we have developed an economical model and a computer simulation to determine the accurate unit price of grid-connected roof-top solar photovoltaic (PV) electricity in A$/kWh for all state of Australia. The benefit of this computer simulation is that we can accurately determine the most appropriate feed-in tariff of grid-connected solar PV energy system. The main objective of this paper is to present the results of this study.A further objective of this paper is to present the details of the unit price of solar PV electricity in the state of Victoria in each month and then to compare with electricity price from conventional power systems, which is currently applied to this state. The state Victoria is located south of Australia and in terms of sun radiation is second lowest compared with the other Australian states. The computer simulation developed for this study makes it possible to determine the cost of grid-connected solar PV electricity at any location in any country based on availability of average daily solar exposure of each month as well as economical factors of the country.  相似文献

Over the last two decades, global electricity production has more than doubled and electricity demand is rising rapidly around the world as economic development spreads to emerging economies. Not only has electricity demand increased significantly, it is the fastest growing end-use of energy. Therefore, technical, economic and environmental benefits of hydroelectric power make it an important contributor to the future world energy mix, particularly in the developing countries. This paper deals with policies to meet increasing energy and electricity demand for sustainable energy development in Turkey. Turkey has a total gross hydropower potential of 433 GWh/year, but only 125 GWh/year of the total hydroelectric potential of Turkey can be economically used. By the commissioning of new hydropower plants, which are under construction, 36% of the economically usable potential of the country would be tapped. Turkey's total economically usable small hydropower potential is 3.75 GWh/year.  相似文献

In Spain, solar electricity (photovoltaic and thermoelectric) has reached a stable annual capacity factor above 20% since 2009; while wind achieved 23% since more than 10 years ago. This is the demonstration of an ongoing transition towards a more sustainable energy mix, further corroborated by the reduction of the capacity factor of gas-fired technology, which has seen a decline to values lower than 10% after an initial promising rise; this is a very low value for a fossil-fuel technology. Additionally, hydro installed capacity, which has been stable for the past 20 years, have demonstrated that can be used as a back-up power source in combination with solar and wind electricity, and it is capable of producing energy peaks that may increase from a stable base of 2000 GWh/month up to 6000 GWh/month and therefore meet demand at some particular times when solar and wind are generating less electricity without the need of installing new additional capacity at national level.  相似文献

This paper discusses solar power prospects in Oman. First, the geographic and topographic information about Oman are presented. The methodology of producing solar radiation maps using GIS tools is then discussed. The results obtained show very high potential of solar radiation over all the lands of Oman during the whole year. A slope analysis has allowed calculating the yearly electricity generation potential for different Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies such as the parabolic trough, parabolic dish, tower, and concentrated PV. For instance if only 10% of the land of Oman with a slope less than 1% is considered an exploitable land for the parabolic trough CSP technology, then the total calculated potential of yearly electricity generation would be about 7.6 million GWh, which is many multiples of (680 times) the current generation supply in Oman which was about 11,189 GWh in 2007.  相似文献

Solar and wind energies are likely to play an important role in the future energy generation in Oman. This paper utilizes average daily global solar radiation and sunshine duration data of 25 locations in Oman to study the economic prospects of solar energy. The study considers a solar PV power plant of 5-MW at each of the 25 locations. The global solar radiation varies between slightly greater than 4 kWh/m2/day at Sur to about 6 kWh/m2/day at Marmul while the average value in the 25 locations is more than 5 kWh/m2/day. The results show that the renewable energy produced each year from the PV power plant varies between 9000 MWh at Marmul and 6200 MWh at Sur while the mean value is 7700 MWh of all the 25 locations. The capacity factor of PV plant varies between 20% and 14% and the cost of electricity varies between 210 US$/MWh and 304 US$/MWh for the best location to the least attractive location, respectively. The study has also found that the PV energy at the best location is competitive with diesel generation without including the externality costs of diesel. Renewable energy support policies that can be implemented in Oman are also discussed.  相似文献

The foreseen depletion of the traditional fossil fuels for the forthcoming decades is forcing us to seek for new sustainable and non-pollutant energy sources. Renewable energies rely on a decentralized scheme strongly dependent on the local resources availability. In this work, we tackle the study of the renewable energies potential for an intensive electricity production in the province of Jaén (southern Spain) which has a pronounced unbalance between its inner electricity production and consumption. The potential of biomass from olive pruning residues, solar photovoltaics (PV) and wind power has been analyzed using Geographical Information System tools, and a proposal for a massive implementation of renewable energies has been arisen. In particular, we propose the installation of 5 biomass facilities, totaling 98 MW of power capacity, with an estimated annual production of 763 GWh, 12 PV facilities, totaling 420 MW of power capacity, with an estimated annual production of 656 GWh and 506 MW of wind power capacity in a number of wind farms, with an estimated annual production of 825 GWh. Overall, this production frame would meet roughly a 75% of the electricity demands in the province and thus would mitigate the current unbalance.  相似文献

The Linear Fresnel Collector (LFC) technology is currently being commercialised by several companies for the application in solar thermal power plants. This study compares the electricity generation costs for LFC and Parabolic Trough Collector (PTC). PTC is the most commercial CSP technology to date and is therefore regarded as the benchmark. For reasons of comparability, direct steam generation is assumed for both LFC and PTC.For the LFC, cost data comparable to typical CSP plant sizes are hardly available. Therefore, the break even cost – referring to aperture-specific collector investment – is determined, where cost-parity of the electricity generation with a PTC reference plant is reached. This study varies the assumptions on collector performance and operation and maintenance costs to reflect different designs of LFC technologies. The calculations were carried out using cost and hourly simulation performance models. Depending on the assumptions, the costs for a linear Fresnel collector solar field should range between 78 and 216 €/m2 to reach cost-parity at assumed reference solar field costs of 275 €/m2 for the PTC.The LFC principle of arranging the mirrors horizontally leads to lower aperture-related optical efficiency which must be compensated by lower cost per m2 of aperture compared to PTC. The LFC is a collector with significant cost reduction potential, mainly due to cheaper mirrors and structural advantages. The presented cost and performance targets shown in this study must be met by LFC technology developers to reach the PTC benchmark.  相似文献

In this study, performance assessment of an integrated cooling plant having both free cooling system and solar powered single-effect lithium bromide–water absorption chiller in operation since August 2002 in Oberhausen, Germany, was performed. A floor space of 270 m2 is air-conditioned by the plant. The plant includes 35.17 kW cooling (10-RT) absorption chiller, vacuum tube collectors’ aperture area of 108 m2, hot water storage capacity of 6.8 m3, cold water storage capacity of 1.5 m3 and a 134 kW cooling tower. The results show that free cooling in some cooling months can be up to 70% while it is about 25% during the 5 years period of the plant operation. For sunny clear sky days with equal incident solar radiation, the daily solar heat fraction ranged from 0.33 to 0.41, collectors’ field efficiency ranged from 0.352 to 0.492 and chiller COP varies from 0.37 to 0.81, respectively. The monthly average value of solar heat fraction varies from 31.1% up to 100% and the five years average value of about 60%. The monthly average collectors’ field efficiency value varies from 34.1% up 41.8% and the five-year average value amounts about 28.3%. Based on the obtained results, the specific collector area is 4.23 (m2/kWcold) and the solar energy system support of the institute heating system for the duration from August 2002 to November 2007 is 8124 kWh.  相似文献

Concentrated solar power (CSP) plants generate an almost continuous flow of fully dispatchable “renewable” electricity and can replace the present fossil fuel power plants for base load electricity generation. Nevertheless, actual CSP plants have moderate electricity costs, in most cases quite low capacity factors and transient problems due to high inertia. Hybridization can help solve these problems and, if done with the integration of forest waste biomass, the “renewable” goal can be maintained, with positive impact on forest fire reduction. Local conditions, resources and feed in tariffs have great impact on the economical and technical evaluation of hybrid solutions; one of the premium European locations for this type of power plants is the Portuguese Algarve region.Due to the concept innovation level, conservative approaches were considered to be the best solutions. In this perspective, for a lower capital investment 4 MWe power plant scale, the best technical/economical solution is the hybrid CRS/biomass power plant HVIB3S4s with CS3 control strategy. It results in a levelized electricity cost (LEC) of 0.146 €/kWh, with higher efficiency and capacity factor than a conventional 4 MWe CRS. A larger 10 MWe hybrid power plant HVIB3S10s could generate electricity with positive economical indicators (LEC of 0.108 €/kWh and IRR of 11.0%), with twice the annual efficiency (feedstock to electricity) and lower costs than a conventional 4 MWe CRS. It would also lead to a 17% reduction in biomass consumption (approximately 12,000 tons less per year) when compared with a typical 10 MWe biomass power plant – FRB10; this would be significant in the case of continuous biomass price increase.  相似文献

This paper discusses solar power prospects in Wilayat Duqum in Oman. First, the geographic and topographic information about the selected region is presented. The methodology of producing solar radiation map for Duqum using GIS tools is then presented. The results obtained show very high potential of solar radiation over Wilayat Duqum during the whole year. A slope analysis has allowed calculating the yearly electricity generation potential for different concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies such as the parabolic trough, parabolic dish, tower, and concentrated PV. Based on the development plan of the Duqum region, and the topologies of the land areas in the region, it is suggested that, for the CSP technologies requiring large amount of water for washing the mirrors, the selected area is a flat land (slope < 1%) located proximity to the sea (~2 km) inside a total industrial area of around 50 km2, hence, allowing easy future expansion of the plant. It was proposed to start with a 100 MW power plant which is expected to consume about 2.4 km2 of flat land for the parabolic trough CSP technology. The total calculated potential of yearly electricity generation would be about 2.3 TWh. If half of the selected land (0.5 × 50 km2) is reserved for future expansion of the plant, the total future capacity can attain 1 GW of electric power. The selected area can also accommodate in the future different types of CSP technologies as they mature with time.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to investigate the monthly and seasonal variation of the wind characteristics in term of wind energy potential using the wind speed data collected between 2002 and 2008 for four meteorological stations in Liguria region, in Northwest of Italy, namely Capo Vado, Casoni, Fontana Fresca and Monte Settepani. The results show that Capo Vado is the best site with a monthly mean wind speed between 2.80 and 9.98 m/s at a height of 10 m and a monthly wind power density between 90.71 and 1177.97 W/m2, while the highest energy produced may be reached in December with a value of 3800 MWh. This study may provide information for developing wind energy sites and planning economical wind turbines capacity for the electricity production in Liguria region, as well as an example of how, deepening the analysis at monthly and seasonal scale, the characteristics of the sites might fall in quite different classes of power density.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken with the objective of evaluating plastic as an alternative material for biogas plant on a par with conventional brick material. The field study was carried out for one year (October, 2005–September, 2006) in a small hamlet at Nilgiris incorporating solar energy to study its influence on biogas production. During summer (April–June) the temperature reaches to the maximum of 21–25 °C and the minimum of 10–12 °C. During winter (October–December), the temperature available is maximum of 16–21 °C and minimum of 2 °C. The solar insolation in the study area ranges from 250 to 600 W/m2. This study involves the control conventional Deenabandhu model (Indian standard model prevailing in most part of India made of masonry structure only) and the experimental plastic tank with greenhouse canopy of similar capacity. Our previous work [Vinoth Kumar, K., Kasturi Bai, R., 2005. Plastic biodigesters – a systematic study. Energy for Sustainable Development 9 (4), 40–49] on lab scale digester made from plastic material was compared over other materials and the results gave us much confidence to carry out further study on pilot scale. In continuation, a semi-continuous study was conducted for one year with the retention time of 55 days. The gas generated from the biogas plants was utilized for cooking (burner) and lighting (lamp) purposes. The yearly average slurry temperatures recorded during the study period was 26.3 and 22.4 °C in experimental and control biogas plants against ambient temperature of 17.0 °C. The yearly average greenhouse chamber temperature recorded was 29.1 °C in the experimental biogas plant. The yearly average gas yield from the experimental and control biogas plants were 39.1 and 34.6 l kg?1 day?1 respectively. Gas productions in the winter season registered lower than other months. It can be concluded that the solar greenhouse assisted plastic biogas plant can be efficiently adopted with minor modifications in hilly regions since the temperature profile plays a major role in biogas production.  相似文献

Based on the mechanism of falling film evaporation condensation, a new four-stage distillation unit with triple-effect regeneration has been designed, constructed and field tested. The seawater desalination system is driven by 80 m2 all-glass vacuum tube solar collection system with an additional 1 kW wind power system to provide electricity for pumps. The field testing and monitoring of the system had been carried out under the real weather condition for 2 years. The results show that the water production of the system for per unit of solar collector area could reach up to more than 12 kg/m2/day under the fine weather conditions. Water production of the system was stable in long period and the annual production could reach to 250 tons in northern China. The economic performance of the system is also discussed. The cost of water production is estimated approximately 4.6 Dollar/ton for the 15-year service life.  相似文献

With the advent of the year 2008, Pakistan faces a gap of 4500 MW between the demand and supply of electricity, registering a shortfall of 40%. The article provides an overview of the key dimensions of the crisis, i.e. growing gap between demand and supply, diminishing indigenous oil and gas reserves, rising energy cost and security concerns. It also explores hydropower, solar energy, biomass and wind power as sustainable energy options for the country. In has been found that the total estimated hydropower potential is more than 42 GW out of which only 6.5 GW has been tapped so far. In terms of available solar energy Pakistan is amongst the richest countries in the world, having an annual global irradiance value of 1900–2200 kWh/m2. Despite that fact that the biomass plays an important role in the primary energy mix by contributing to 36% of the total supplies, it has not managed to break into the commercial energy market. Wind power, also been identified as a potential source of energy, is yet to take off.  相似文献

The formal and legal requirements as well as the support system for building agricultural biogas plants in Poland have been presented. There are currently 24 agricultural biogas plants operating in Poland. The fermentation substrates are slurry, food waste and maize silage. It is most often mesophilic fermentation. Produced biogas is combusted in cogeneration and thus obtained electrical and thermal energy is used for the biogas plant's own needs and sold. The support system for biogas plants' operation in Poland is based on a system of certificates. In this system it is cost-effective to use waste for fermentation whilst it is not cost-effective for a biogas plant to run on maize silage. It has been calculated that in Poland the theoretical annual biogas potential for cattle slurry is 3646 million m3, for pig slurry it is 2581 million m3, for poultry manure it is 717 million m3, from maize after seed harvest it is 1044 million m3, from municipal waste biofraction it is 100 million m3 of biogas.  相似文献

The implementation of the emissions market should imbue renewable energies with a greater degree of competitiveness regarding conventional generation. In order to comply with the Kyoto protocol, utilities are going to begin to factor in the cost of CO2 (environmental costs) in their overall generating costs, whereby there will be an increase in the marginal prices of the electricity pool. This article reviews the progress made in the La Rioja Autonomous Community (LRAC) in terms of the introduction of renewable energy technologies since 1996, where renewable energy represents approximately only 10% of the final energy consumption of the LRAC. Nonetheless, the expected exploitation of renewable energies and the recent implementation of a combined cycle facility mean that the electricity scenario in La Rioja will undergo spectacular change over the coming years: we examine the possibility of meeting a target of practical electrical self-sufficiency by 2010.In 2004, power consumption amounted to 1494 GWh, with an installed power of 1029.0 MW of electricity. By 2010, the Arrúbal combined cycle facility will produce around 9600 GWh/year, thereby providing a power generation output in La Rioja of close to 2044.7 MW, which will involve almost doubling the present output, and multiplying by 8.9 that recorded in this Autonomous Community in 2001.  相似文献
