Writer identification is an important field in forensic document examination. Typically, a writer identification system consists of two main steps: feature extraction and matching and the performance depends significantly on the feature extraction step. In this paper, we propose a set of novel geometrical features that are able to characterize different writers. These features include direction, curvature, and tortuosity. We also propose an improvement of the edge-based directional and chain code-based features. The proposed methods are applicable to Arabic and English handwriting. We have also studied several methods for computing the distance between feature vectors when comparing two writers. Evaluation of the methods is performed using both the IAM handwriting database and the QUWI database for each individual feature reaching Top1 identification rates of 82 and 87 % in those two datasets, respectively. The accuracies achieved by Kernel Discriminant Analysis (KDA) are significantly higher than those observed before feature-level writer identification was implemented. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the improved versions of both chain-code features and edge-based directional features.  相似文献

Adaptive control systems have been developed and used for a number of decades. However, there are still some problems with their operation, which limit wider industrial adoption. This paper addresses one aspect of adaptive control, namely the on-line system identification of the time-varying process being controlled. The approach adopted is to use a blackboard system to identify the time-varying process model. The blackboard system contains knowledge sources with, algorithmic, fuzzy-logic and evolutionary reasoning. The paper describes the design of a computer simulation of this approach, concentrating on the fuzzy reasoning used to validate the multiple models, and the evolutionary techniques used to reject poor models and introduce better models. The computer simulation is then evaluated, firstly using simulated plant data and then using real plant data from an experimental hot air dryer. It is concluded that the technique is practical, and worthy of further testing on a pilot plant.  相似文献

To identify on-line a quite general class of non-linear systems, this paper proposes a new stable learning law of the multilayer dynamic neural networks. A Lyapunov-like analysis is used to derive this stable learning procedure for the hidden layer as well as for the output layer. An algebraic Riccati equation is considered to construct a bound for the identification error. The suggested learning algorithm is similar to the well-known backpropagation rule of the multilayer perceptrons but with an additional term which assure the stability property of the identification error.  相似文献

The aim of writer identification is determining the writer of a piece of handwriting from a set of writers. In this paper, we present an architecture for writer identification in old handwritten music scores. Even though an important amount of music compositions contain handwritten text, the aim of our work is to use only music notation to determine the author. The main contribution is therefore the use of features extracted from graphical alphabets. Our proposal consists in combining the identification results of two different approaches, based on line and textural features. The steps of the ensemble architecture are the following. First of all, the music sheet is preprocessed for removing the staff lines. Then, music lines and texture images are generated for computing line features and textural features. Finally, the classification results are combined for identifying the writer. The proposed method has been tested on a database of old music scores from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries, achieving a recognition rate of about 92% with 20 writers.  相似文献

Several Web-based on-line judges or on-line programming trainers have been developed in order to allow students to train their programming skills. However, their pedagogical functionalities in the learning of programming have not been clearly defined. EduJudge is a project which aims to integrate the “UVA On-line Judge”, an existing on-line programming trainer with an important number of problems and users, into an effective educational environment consisting of the e-learning platform Moodle and the competitive learning tool QUESTOURnament. The result is the EduJudge system which allows teachers to apply different pedagogical approaches using a proven e-learning platform, makes problems easy to search through an effective search engine, and provides an automated evaluation of the solutions submitted to these problems. The final objective is to provide new learning strategies to motivate students and present programming as an easy and attractive challenge. EduJudge has been tried and tested in three algorithms and programming courses in three different Engineering degrees. The students’ motivation and satisfaction levels were analysed alongside the effects of the EduJudge system on students’ academic outcomes. Results indicate that both students and teachers found that among other multiple benefits the EduJudge system facilitates the learning process. Furthermore, the experiment also showed an improvement in students’ academic outcomes. It must be noted that the students’ level of satisfaction did not depend on their computer skills or their gender.  相似文献

Programming languages tend to be more and more frequently interpreted rather than compiled. This is mainly because hardware is becoming cheaper and newer hardware with a still higher degree of complexity is rapidly appearing.The well-known separation of interpretation and execution is used together with an intermediate code to present a technique which achieves an important improvement in program execution speed. The solution given involves a highly interactive multiprocessor with extremely short parallel processes. A pipelining system at the level of the intermediate code together with a first-in first-out queuing buffer is used.Our proposal amounts to combining a set of microprocessors into a multiprocessor system. The set consists of an interpretation processor and one or more execution processors. The execution processors run a code that is free of jumps. The performance thus reaches the level of compiled code. No restriction on intermediate codes is made. However, a complex an powerful code that is not storage consuming will generally speed up the type of machine presented.The machine architecture together with the technological possibilities and the realization of the machine are emphasized in this paper.  相似文献
