The solar radiation model SRAD was applied to a Mediterranean mountainous environment in southern California for estimating land surface temperature (LST). The simulated SRAD LST results were compared with high- and meso-resolution satellite-based LST data at daily, monthly and annual temporal scales to identify potential ways of improving the LST accuracy in either the SRAD or satellite-based approaches. It was found that mean monthly and annual LST from SRAD closely matched the MODIS LST observations (but for the fact they were from 0.7 to 1.5 °C lower) while the daily LST from SRAD agreed less well with ASTER observations and were 2.1 °C and 4.8 °C higher for 01/23/05 and 07/21/06, respectively. High mountainous, steep and south/north facing slopes resulted in large discrepancies in LST estimates and the winter LST estimates are more sensitive to terrain factors and their associated land use/cover characteristics than the summer estimates. It is therefore suggested that vertically variable elevation lapse rates, spatially distributed surface albedo and leaf area index for the time-specific simulations that represent the heterogeneity of land surface characteristics be used in SRAD inputs. The results also show how instantaneous model outputs rather than lumped average daily outputs offer better comparisons with satellite based data as well.  相似文献

This paper discusses the lessons learned from analysis of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Land-Surface Temperature/Emissivity (LST) products in the current (V4) and previous versions, and presents eight new refinements for V5 product generation executive code (PGE16) and the test results with real Terra and Aqua MODIS data. The major refinements include considering surface elevation when using the MODIS cloudmask product, removal of temporal averaging in the 1 km daily level-3 LST product, removal of cloud-contaminated LSTs in level-3 LST products, and the refinements for the day/night LST algorithm. These refinements significantly improved the spatial coverage of LSTs, especially in highland regions, and the accuracy and stability of the MODIS LST products. Comparisons between V5 LSTs and in-situ values in 47 clear-sky cases (in the LST range from − 10 °C to 58 °C and atmospheric column water vapor range from 0.4 to 3.5 cm) indicate that the accuracy of the MODIS LST product is better than 1 K in most cases (39 out of 47) and the root of mean squares of differences is less than 0.7 K for all 47 cases or 0.5 K for all but the 8 cases apparently with heavy aerosol loadings. Emissivities retrieved by the day/night algorithm are well compared to the surface emissivity spectra measured by a sun-shadow method in two field campaigns. The time series of V5 MODIS LST product over two sites (Lake Tahoe in California and Namco lake in Tibet) in 2003 are evaluated, showing that the quantity and quality of MODIS LST products depend on clear-sky conditions because of the inherent limitation of the thermal infrared remote sensing.  相似文献

Land surface temperature (LST) and emissivity are key parameters in estimating the land surface radiation budget, a major controlling factor of global climate and environmental change. In this study, Terra Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) and Aqua MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Collection 5 LST and emissivity products are evaluated using long-term ground-based longwave radiation observations collected at six Surface Radiation Budget Network (SURFRAD) sites from 2000 to 2007. LSTs at a spatial resolution of 90 m from 197 ASTER images during 2000-2007 are directly compared to ground observations at the six SURFRAD sites. For nighttime data, ASTER LST has an average bias of 0.1 °C and the average bias is 0.3 °C during daytime. Aqua MODIS LST at 1 km resolution during nighttime retrieved from a split-window algorithm is evaluated from 2002 to 2007. MODIS LST has an average bias of − 0.2 °C. LST heterogeneity (defined as the Standard Deviation, STD, of ASTER LSTs in 1 × 1 km2 region, 11 × 11 pixel in total) and instrument calibration error of pyrgeometer are key factors impacting the ASTER and MODIS LST evaluation using ground-based radiation measurements. The heterogeneity of nighttime ASTER LST is 1.2 °C, which accounts for 71% of the STD of the comparison, while the heterogeneity of the daytime LST is 2.4 °C, which accounts for 60% of the STD. Collection 5 broadband emissivity is 0.01 larger than that of MODIS Collection 4 products and ASTER emissivity. It is essential to filter out the abnormal low values of ASTER daily emissivity data in summer time before its application.  相似文献

The results of the first consecutive 12 months of the NASA Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) global burned area product are presented. Total annual and monthly area burned statistics and missing data statistics are reported at global and continental scale and with respect to different land cover classes. Globally the total area burned labeled by the MODIS burned area product is 3.66 × 106 km2 for July 2001 to June 2002 while the MODIS active fire product detected for the same period a total of 2.78 × 106 km2, i.e., 24% less than the area labeled by the burned area product. A spatio-temporal correlation analysis of the two MODIS fire products stratified globally for pre-fire leaf area index (LAI) and percent tree cover ranges indicate that for low percent tree cover and LAI, the MODIS burned area product defines a greater proportion of the landscape as burned than the active fire product; and with increasing tree cover (> 60%) and LAI (> 5) the MODIS active fire product defines a relatively greater proportion. This pattern is generally observed in product comparisons stratified with respect to land cover. Globally, the burned area product reports a smaller amount of area burned than the active fire product in croplands and evergreen forest and deciduous needleleaf forest classes, comparable areas for mixed and deciduous broadleaf forest classes, and a greater amount of area burned for the non-forest classes. The reasons for these product differences are discussed in terms of environmental spatio-temporal fire characteristics and remote sensing factors, and highlight the planning needs for MODIS burned area product validation.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to estimate the fraction of photosynthetically active radiation absorbed by the canopy (fPAR) from point measurements to airborne lidar for hierarchical scaling up and assessment of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) fPAR product within a “medium-sized” (7 km × 18 km) watershed. Nine sites across Canada, containing one or more (of 11) distinct species types and age classes at varying stages of regeneration and seasonal phenology were examined using a combination of discrete pulse airborne scanning Light Detection And Ranging (lidar) and coincident analog and digital hemispherical photography (HP). Estimates of fPAR were first compared using three methods: PAR radiation sensors, HP, and airborne lidar. HP provided reasonable estimates of fPAR when compared with radiation sensors. A simplified fractional canopy cover ratio from lidar based on the number of within canopy returns to the total number of returns was then compared with fPAR estimated from HP at 486 geographically registered measurement locations. The return ratio fractional cover method from lidar compared well with HP-derived fPAR (coefficient of determination = 0.72, RMSE = 0.11), despite varying the lidar survey configurations, canopy structural characteristics, seasonal phenologies, and possible slight inaccuracies in location using handheld GPS at some sites. Lidar-derived fractional cover estimates of fPAR were ~ 10% larger than those obtained using HP (after removing wood components), indicating that lidar likely provides a more realistic estimate of fPAR than HP when compared with radiation sensors. Finally, fPAR derived from lidar fractional cover was modelled at 1 m resolution and averaged over 99 1 km areas for comparison with MODIS fPAR. The following study is one of the first to scale between plot measurements and MODIS pixels using airborne lidar.  相似文献

Light use efficiency (LUE) is an important variable characterizing plant eco-physiological functions and refers to the efficiency at which absorbed solar radiation is converted into photosynthates. The estimation of LUE at regional to global scales would be a significant advantage for global carbon cycle research. Traditional methods for canopy level LUE determination require meteorological inputs which cannot be easily obtained by remote sensing. Here we propose a new algorithm that incorporates the enhanced vegetation index (EVI) and a modified form of land surface temperature (Tm) for the estimation of monthly forest LUE based on Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery. Results demonstrate that a model based on EVI × Tm parameterized from ten forest sites can provide reasonable estimates of monthly LUE for temperate and boreal forest ecosystems in North America with an R2 of 0.51 (p < 0.001) for the overall dataset. The regression coefficients (a, b) of the LUE–EVI × Tm correlation for these ten sites have been found to be closely correlated with the average EVI (EVI_ave, R2 = 0.68, p = 0.003) and the minimum land surface temperature (LST_min, R2 = 0.81, p = 0.009), providing a possible approach for model calibration. The calibrated model shows comparably good estimates of LUE for another ten independent forest ecosystems with an overall root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.055 g C per mol photosynthetically active radiation. These results are especially important for the evergreen species due to their limited variability in canopy greenness. The usefulness of this new LUE algorithm is further validated for the estimation of gross primary production (GPP) at these sites with an RMSE of 37.6 g C m? 2 month? 1 for all observations, which reflects a 28% improvement over the standard MODIS GPP products. These analyses should be helpful in the further development of ecosystem remote sensing methods and improving our understanding of the responses of various ecosystems to climate change.  相似文献

Land surface temperature (LST) is a key parameter in numerous environmental studies. Surface heterogeneity induces uncertainty in pixel-wise LST. Spatial scaling may account for the uncertainty, however, different approaches lead to differences in scaled values. Satellite-retrieved LST may be representative of the pixel-wise LST and useful for scaling analysis, but the limited accuracy of retrieved values adds uncertainty into the scaled values. Based on the Stefan-Boltzmann (S-B) law, this study proposed scaling approaches for LST over flat and relief areas to explore the combined uncertainties in scaling using satellite-retrieved data. To take advantage of simultaneous, multi-resolution observations at coincident nadirs by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) and the MODerate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), LST products from these two sensors were examined for part of the Loess Plateau in China. 90-m ASTER LST data were scaled up to 1 km using the proposed approaches, and variation in the LST was generally reduced after scaling. Amongst the sources of uncertainties, surface heterogeneity (emissivity) and different scaling approaches resulted in very minor differences, with a maximum difference of 0.2 K for the upscaled LST. Terrain features, taken as an areal weighting factor, had negligible effects on the upscaled value. Limited accuracy of the retrieved LST was the major uncertainty. The overall LST increased 0.6 K on average with correction for terrain-induced angular effect and 0.4 K for both angular and adjacency effects over the study area. Accounting for terrain correction in scaling is necessary for rugged areas. With terrain correction, the upscaled ASTER LST achieved an agreement of − 0.1 ± 1.87 K and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.87 K overall with the 1-km MODIS LST rectified by Wan et al.'s approach [Wan, Z., Zhang, Y., Zhang Q., Li, Z.-L. (2002b), Validation of the land-surface temperature products retrieved from Terra Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer data. Remote Sensing of Environment, 83, 163-180]. Refining the rectification approach resulted in a better agreement of − 0.2 ± 1.57 K and a RMSE of 1.58 K.  相似文献

The electrochemical sensor of triazole (TA) self-assembled monolayer (SAM) modified gold electrode (TA SAM/Au) was fabricated. The electrochemical behaviors of epinephrine (EP) at TA SAM/Au have been studied. The TA SAM/Au shows an excellent electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of EP and accelerates electron transfer rate. The diffusion coefficient is 1.135 × 10−6 cm2 s−1. Under the optimum experiment conditions (i.e. 0.1 mol L−1, pH 4.4, sodium borate buffer, accumulation time: 180 s, accumulation potential: 0.6 V, scan rate: 0.1 Vs−1), the cathodic peak current of EP versus its concentration has a good linear relation in the ranges of 1.0 × 10−7 to 1.0 × 10−5 mol L−1 and 1.0 × 10−5 to 6.0 × 10−4 mol L−1 by square wave adsorptive stripping voltammetry (SWASV), with the correlation coefficient of 0.9985 and 0.9996, respectively. Detection limit is down to 1.0 × 10−8 mol L−1. The TA SAM/Au can be used for the determination of EP in practical injection. Meantime, the oxidative peak potentials of EP and ascorbic acid (AA) are well separated about 200 ± 10 mV at TA SAM/Au, the oxidation peak current increases approximately linearly with increasing concentration of both EP and AA in the concentration range of 2.0 × 10−5 to 1.6 × 10−4 mol L−1. It can be used for simultaneous determination of EP and AA.  相似文献

A dataset of 237 human Ether-à-go-go Related Gene (hERG) potassium channel inhibitors (180 of which were used for model building and validation, whereas 57 constituted the “true” external prediction set) collected from 22 literature sources was modeled by 3D-SDAR. To produce reliable and reproducible classification models for hERG blocking, the initial set of 180 chemicals was split into two subsets: a balanced modeling set consisting of 118 compounds and an unbalanced validation set comprised of 62 compounds. A PLS bagging-like algorithm written in Matlab was used to process the data and assign each compound to one of the two (hERG+ or hERG-) activity classes. The best predictive model evaluated on the basis of a fully randomized hold-out test set (comprising 20% of the modeling set) used 4 latent variables and a grid of 6 ppm × 6 ppm × 1 Å in the C-C region, 6 ppm × 30 ppm × 1 Å in the C-N region, and 30 ppm × 30 ppm × 1 Å in the N-N region. An overall accuracy of 0.84 was obtained for both the hold-out test set and the validation set. Further, an external prediction set consisting of 57 drugs and drug derivatives was used to estimate the true predictive power of the reported 3D-SDAR model – a slight reduction of the overall accuracy down to 0.77 was observed. 3D-SDAR map of the most frequently occurring bins and their projection on the standard coordinate space of the chemical structures allowed identification of a three-center toxicophore composed of two aromatic rings and an amino group. A U test along the distance axis of the most frequently occurring 3D-SDAR bins was used to set the distance limits of the toxicophore. This toxicophore was found to be similar to an earlier reported phospholipidosis (PLD) toxicophore.  相似文献

One of the main difficulties using multi-point statistical (MPS) simulation based on annealing techniques or genetic algorithms concerns the excessive amount of time and memory that must be spent in order to achieve convergence. In this work we propose code optimizations and parallelization schemes over a genetic-based MPS code with the aim of speeding up the execution time. The code optimizations involve the reduction of cache misses in the array accesses, avoid branching instructions and increase the locality of the accessed data. The hybrid parallelization scheme involves a fine-grain parallelization of loops using a shared-memory programming model (OpenMP) and a coarse-grain distribution of load among several computational nodes using a distributed-memory programming model (MPI). Convergence, execution time and speed-up results are presented using 2D training images of sizes 100 × 100 × 1 and 1000 × 1000 × 1 on a distributed-shared memory supercomputing facility.  相似文献

This paper presents an evaluation of the Earth Observing System (EOS) Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) thermal infrared bands and the status of land surface temperature (LST) version-3 standard products retrieved from Terra MODIS data. The accuracy of daily MODIS LST products has been validated in more than 20 clear-sky cases with in situ measurement data collected in field campaigns in 2000–2002. The MODIS LST accuracy is better than 1°C in the range from ?10 to 50°C. Refinements and improvements were made to the new version of MODIS LST product generation executive code. Using both Terra and Aqua MODIS data for LST retrieval improves the quality of the LST product and the diurnal feature in the product due to better temporal, spatial and angular coverage of clear-sky observations.  相似文献

This article presents the procedure and results of a temperature-based validation approach for the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Land Surface Temperature (LST) product provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Terra and Aqua Earth Observing System satellites using in-situ LST observations recorded at the Cooperative Remote Sensing Science and Technology Center – Snow Analysis and Field Experiment (CREST-SAFE) during the years of 2013 (January–April) and 2014 (February–April). A total of 314 day-and-night clear-sky thermal images, acquired by the Terra and Aqua satellites, were processed and compared to ground-truth data from CREST-SAFE with a frequency of one measurement every 3 min. CREST-SAFE is a synoptic ground station, located in the cold county of Caribou in Maine, USA, with a distinct advantage over most meteorological stations because it provides automated and continuous LST observations via an Apogee Model SI-111 Infrared Radiometer. This article also attempts to answer the question of whether a single pixel (1 km2) or several spatially averaged pixels should be used for satellite LST validation by increasing the MODIS window size to 5 × 5, 9 × 9, and 25 × 25 windows.

Several trends in the MODIS LST data were observed, including the underestimation of daytime values and night-time values. Results indicate that although all the data sets (Terra and Aqua, diurnal and nocturnal) showed high correlation with ground measurements, day values yielded slightly higher accuracy (about 1°C), both suggesting that MODIS LST retrievals are reliable for similar land-cover classes and atmospheric conditions. Increasing the MODIS window size showed an overestimation of in-situ LST and some improvement in the daytime Terra and night-time Aqua biases, with the highest accuracy achieved with the 5 × 5 window. A comparison between MODIS emissivity from bands 31, 32, and in-situ emissivity showed that emissivity errors (relative error = ?0.30%) were insignificant.  相似文献

A flow-injection biamperometric method for the determination of iron(III) has been described. The detector consists of two chambers separated by a salt bridge, and one platinum wire working electrode is embedded in each chamber, respectively. When iron(III) solution and hydrogen peroxide solution simultaneously flow through two chambers, the reduction of iron(III) at one platinum electrode is associated with the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide at the other platinum electrode, forming such a system as similar to a reversible couple one. The biamperometric system can perform the determination of iron(III) without any external potential difference. The linear relationship is obtained from 1.0 × 10−6 to 1.0 × 10−4 mol l−1 with a detection limit of 6.0 × 10−7 mol l−1. The proposed method exhibits the satisfactory reproducibility with a relative standard derivation (R.S.D.) of 1.4% for 17 successive determinations of 2.0 × 10−5 mol l−1 iron(III) and is applied to the determination of iron(III) in soil.  相似文献

We have previously shown that concurrent head movements impair head-referenced image motion perception when compensatory eye movements are suppressed (Li, Adelstein, & Ellis, 2009) [16]. In this paper, we examined the effect of the field of view on perceiving world-referenced image motion during concurrent head movements. Participants rated the motion magnitude of a horizontally oscillating checkerboard image presented on a large screen while making yaw or pitch head movements, or holding their heads still. As the image motion was world-referenced, head motion elicited compensatory eye movements from the vestibular-ocular reflex to maintain the gaze on the display. The checkerboard image had either a large (73°H × 73°V) or a small (25°H × 25°V) field of view (FOV). We found that perceptual sensitivity to world-referenced image motion was reduced by 20% during yaw and pitch head movements compared to the veridical levels when the head was still, and this reduction did not depend on the display FOV size. Reducing the display FOV from 73°H × 73°V to 25°H × 25°V caused an overall underestimation of image motion by 7% across the head movement and head still conditions. We conclude that observers have reduced perceptual sensitivity to world-referenced image motion during concurrent head movements independent of the FOV size. The findings are applicable in the design of virtual environment countermeasures to mitigate perception of spurious motion arising from head tracking system latency.  相似文献

A cobaloxime ([chlorobis(dimethylglyoximeato)(triphenylphosphine)] cobalt (III), [Co(dmgH)2pph3Cl]) incorporated in a plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) membrane was used to develop a perchlorate-selective electrode. The influence of membrane composition on the electrode response was studied. The electrode exhibits a Nernstian response over the perchlorate concentration range 1.0 × 10−6 to 1 × 10−1 mol l−1 with a slope of −56.8 ± 0.7 mV per decade of concentration, a detection limit of 8.3 × 10−7, a wide working pH range (3–10) and a fast response time (<15 s). The electrode shows excellent selectivity towards perchlorate with respect to many common anions. The electrode was used to determine perchlorate in water and human urine.  相似文献

This paper reports on fabrication and design considerations of an integrated folded shorted-patch chip-size antenna for applications in short-range wireless microsystems and operating inside the 5–6 GHz ISM band. Antenna fabrication is based on wafer-level chip-scale packaging (WLCSP) techniques and consists of two adhesively bonded glass wafers with patterned metallization and through-wafer electrical interconnects. Via formation in glass substrates is identified as the key fabrication step. Various options for via formation are compared and from these, a 193 nm excimer laser ablation is selected for fabrication of the antenna demonstrator. The fabricated antenna has dimensions of 4 mm × 4 mm × 1 mm, measured operating frequency of 5.05 GHz with a bandwidth of ∼200 MHz at the return loss of −10 dB and a simulated radiation efficiency of 60% were achieved.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a method that simplifies the interconnect complexity of N × M resistive sensor arrays from N × M to N + M. In this method, we propose to use two sets of interconnection lines in row–column fashion with all the sensor elements having one of their ends connected to a row line and other end to a column line. This interconnection overloading results in crosstalk among all the elements. This crosstalk causes the spreading of information over the whole array. The proposed circuit in this method takes care of this effect by minimizing the crosstalk. The circuit makes use of the concept of virtual same potential at the inputs of an operational amplifier in negative feedback to obtain a sufficient isolation among various elements. We theoretically present the suitability of the method for small/moderate sized sensor arrays and experimentally verify the predicted behavior by lock-in-amplifier based measurements on a light dependent resistor (LDR) in a 4 × 4 resistor array. Finally, we present a successful implementation of this method on a 16 × 16 imaging array of LDR.  相似文献

Tamarix leaf beetles (Diorhabda carinulata) have been widely released on western U.S. rivers to control introduced shrubs in the genus Tamarix. Part of the motivation to control Tamarix is to salvage water for human use. Information is needed on the impact of beetles on Tamarix seasonal leaf production and subsequent water use over wide areas and multiple cycles of annual defoliation. Here we combine ground data with high resolution phenocam imagery and moderate resolution (Landsat) and coarser resolution (MODIS) satellite imagery to test the effects of beetles on Tamarix evapotranspiration (ET) and leaf phenology at sites on six western rivers. Satellite imagery covered the period 2000 to 2010 which encompassed years before and after beetle release at each study site. Phenocam images showed that beetles reduced green leaf cover of individual canopies by about 30% during a 6–8 week period in summer, but plants produced new leaves after beetles became dormant in August, and over three years no net reduction in peak summer leaf production was noted. ET was estimated by vegetation index methods, and both Landsat and MODIS analyses showed that beetles reduced ET markedly in the first year of defoliation, but ET recovered in subsequent years. Over all six sites, ET decreased by 14% to 15% by Landsat and MODIS estimates, respectively. However, results were variable among sites, ranging from no apparent effect on ET to substantial reduction in ET. Baseline ET rates before defoliation were low, 394 mm yr? 1 by Landsat and 314 mm yr? 1 by MODIS estimates (20–25% of potential ET), further constraining the amount of water that could be salvaged. Beetle–Tamarix interactions are in their early stage of development on this continent and it is too soon to predict the eventual extent to which Tamarix populations will be reduced. The utility of remote sensing methods for monitoring defoliation was constrained by the small area covered by each phenocam image, the low temporal resolution of Landsat, and the low spatial resolution of MODIS imagery. Even combined image sets did not adequately reveal the details of the defoliation process, and remote sensing data should be combined with ground observations to develop operational monitoring protocols.  相似文献

Human activities are inherently translation invariant and hierarchical. Human activity recognition (HAR), a field that has garnered a lot of attention in recent years due to its high demand in various application domains, makes use of time-series sensor data to infer activities. In this paper, a deep convolutional neural network (convnet) is proposed to perform efficient and effective HAR using smartphone sensors by exploiting the inherent characteristics of activities and 1D time-series signals, at the same time providing a way to automatically and data-adaptively extract robust features from raw data. Experiments show that convnets indeed derive relevant and more complex features with every additional layer, although difference of feature complexity level decreases with every additional layer. A wider time span of temporal local correlation can be exploited (1 × 9–1 × 14) and a low pooling size (1 × 2–1 × 3) is shown to be beneficial. Convnets also achieved an almost perfect classification on moving activities, especially very similar ones which were previously perceived to be very difficult to classify. Lastly, convnets outperform other state-of-the-art data mining techniques in HAR for the benchmark dataset collected from 30 volunteer subjects, achieving an overall performance of 94.79% on the test set with raw sensor data, and 95.75% with additional information of temporal fast Fourier transform of the HAR data set.  相似文献
