This paper discusses the approach adopted by the authors for teaching an undergraduate course (lecture and laboratory) in digital controls. Theoretical material is developed in the lecture concerning the application of direct digital control (DDC) to an analog bench-scale system consisting of a DC motor and tachometer. A simulation of the closed-loop control system with embedded digital controller is developed and run by the students using the TUTSIM dynamic simulation language. Finally, students perform a laboratory experiment in which they write a program to control the actual system using a personal computer and inexpensive interface card. The combination of hands-on experience and computer simulation with the more traditional, theoretical lecture material provides a well-rounded learning experience that better prepares the students to implement digital control systems in the real world  相似文献

A significant academic concern is discussed in terms of introducing the study of methods of discrete-event control in hierarchical systems. This is an area with a blend of computer and control system concepts that is often avoided (or perhaps lost between areas) in undergraduate engineering programs. Applications to factory automation may involve very extensive and critical design considerations, and this area is often an important concern to practicing engineers. The techniques are applicable to a broad range of system design, including systems that provide both discrete and continuous actions such as robots and machine tools. Discrete-action concepts using state-transition techniques are readily assimilated into an undergraduate control systems program, and basic concepts are discussed in terms of introducing this type of program into both the classroom and laboratory. Several variations of state-transition techniques are described, and the various techniques are compared with examples utilizing state-transition diagrams, Petri nets, and state program tables. With the application of digital techniques expanding control concepts in various directions, this is an interdisciplinary area that should be considered to be a fundamentally important part of control system studies  相似文献

Major advances in the state of the art of integrated circuit fabrication have created a revolution in computer system technology. Due to the permeation of microcomputer systems into other fields of Engineering and Science, the use of the microcomputer as a laboratory instrument can be integrated into courses other than the core digital systems courses. The development of a laboratory with high level program development tools on a dedicated timesharing system, coupled with facilities to load these programs into a variety of stand-alone microcomputers to support laboratory courses is described. The approach is inherently independent of the evolution in the microcomputer industry and can be used by "non-digital" students. This paper presents a unique facility capable of exhibiting the operation of modern day power system energy management systems (EMS). The purpose is educational with possible research applications. We present the design and construction of the laboratory facility. Key elements of the facility include a real-life, flexible power system network, signal conditioning hardware, data acquisition (DAQ) equipment, and client/server industry standard computer networking technology. The designed EMS system will allow students to get experience on the realistic operation and control of power systems and expose students to modern supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) equipment and procedures used by the power industry  相似文献

Educational aspects of CAD supported real time control are discussed. The historical development of the equipment and appropriate software concerning laboratory exercises in the field of real-time control is briefly described. The hardware and software equipment used in the education process at Ljubljana University is briefly described. Emphasis is given to the equipment developed: a hydraulic-thermal pilot plant, two CACSD program packages with their real-time capabilities, and a special program for real time control in addition to emphasizing their connection in a powerful educational system. Some typical exercises from undergraduate courses, e.g., some experiments on the connection of analog and digital computer, identification of the hydraulic process and its level control, as well as some exercises from a graduate course, e.g., the implementation of adaptive digital filtering in real-time are described. A low cost microcomputer control facility for the teaching of computer control theory to final year undergraduates is described. The teaching objectives are the need to offer direct "hands-on" experience of operating an on-line digital computer control system and the provision of a versatile method of studying the efficacy of a range of different computer control algorithms, thus allowing theoretical concepts to be more immediately related to a realistic on-line control environment. The recent availability of microcomputers now makes the provision of such a low cost teaching facility a real possibility.  相似文献

This paper describes a digital control laboratory facility which teaches the central concepts of digital control without requiring a background in digital systems and/or machine language programming. The heart of the laboratory is a flexible hardware digital controller replacing the traditional analog control components in a D. C. servo system. The digital controller can be adjusted to provide versions of the standard PID control algorithm with adjustable word length and computation delay. Through a series of graded experiments this hardware can provide: (1) an introduction to digital control concepts and components, (2) an introduction to digital signal processing, (3) experience with basic DDC algorithms, (4) experience with problems encountered in the choice of sampling rate and digital word length, and (5) experience in working with and trouble-shooting an operating digital control system. Since one controller can be provided for each laboratory station the student has considerable freedom to learn by doing at his own rate.  相似文献

The authors' telecomputing laboratory is a multiuse state-of-the-art undergraduate teaching facility designed to be both flexible and powerful. The controlled workstation and computer communications facilities allow undergraduate students an opportunity to apply and integrate classroom knowledge in communications, signal processing, computer architecture and algorithm and software development via a set of practical experiments. Students are exposed to state-of-the-art computer communications systems, on which they can implement everything from modern digital communication and signal processing algorithms to parallel algorithms and real-time databases. State-of-the-art computer software provides the undergraduate students modern models of quality software, as well as the tools necessary to design and build sophisticated software/hardware systems. An approach is proposed for including a sequence of four computer engineering courses in required undergraduate electrical engineering curricula. Justification of the need is presented in terms of the modern electrical engineer's involvement with the digital computer. Each course is described in terms of objectives, content, prerequisites, laboratory, credit, scheduling, and possible texts. Implementation of the sequence is also considered in relation to laboratory facility needs, availability of qualified instructors, and accommodation in existing curricula. An integrated laboratory for system modeling, simulation, real-time digital signal processing, and control is being developed at Bucknell University for undergraduate electrical engineering education. The laboratory bridges the gap between software simulation and testing of actual systems through a common visual programming interface. Students can explore the iterative process of developing a model and then refining the model until computer simulation results agree with experimental measurements. A liquid level control system is presented to illustrate the features of the laboratory environment. The key components of the laboratory are networked digital signal processing (DSP) hardware units and a simulation software package. A microprocessor-based direct digital control system laboratory developed at Purdue University is discussed. The microprocessor controller interfaces directly to an analog computer for simulation control or to control components such as motors, heaters, etc. Available resident processor routines (A/D, D/A, arithmetic, timing, etc.) can be easily configured into a digital control system program allowing strategies to be quickly developed and tested. Al operations are performed directly at the control station via a terminal keyboard, and the system has the potential for stand-alone operation with a graphics output terminal A typical digital control system example-servo position control-has been developed for use in the Junior Control Laboratory. In addition to unlimited possibilities for software strategies, patchable features such as comparators, logic circuitry, timing functions, etc., are available on the front panel, allowing quick, efficient development of a complete digital control system.  相似文献

本文介绍了逻辑信号源的原理和系统组成.阐述了系统平台的硬件设计及主要单元模块的功能,并对FPGA内部程序设计的主要思想和数据流程作了较详细介绍.仿真结果表明,系统可以输出包括SPI、IIC、USB、RS232、CAN等协议在内的多种串行数字码流,以及并行的数字码流. 测试结果表明,系统可以满足各种数字激励需求的数字信号,它们可以生成所需的1和0的码流,测试计算机总线、微处理器IC设备和其他数字系统.  相似文献

This paper describes a laboratory equipped for the teaching of advanced courses in computer engineering, computer science, information systems, and software engineering. Other related work areas include computer vision, real-time systems, programming languages, and computer architectures. The laboratory has been built around a digital model railroad platform controlled by a client-server system using an object-oriented language. The characteristics of this laboratory are suitable for implementing Web activities for educational purposes. 为研究在光谱响应度测量中使用的精密光栅单色仪McPherson的Model207的波长特性,介绍了为此建立的基于LabVIEW的光栅单色仪波长标定装置系统。通过RS232与GPIB总线接口将装置的各自动控制部件连接到计算机,实现光谱的自动标定;针对光栅单色仪的性能研究,编写了对应的性能实验程序;在程序中给出了对采集的数据进行处理分析。通过实验得到单色仪波长准确度能达到0.02nm。  相似文献
