To realize a flat display panel for a high-definition TV (HDTV) receiver, the feasibility of a planar gas-discharge panel simply arranged with both the display and auxiliary cells on the same plane in the panel structure was studied. This would allow for a thick-film printing technique to be used for all fabrication processes. Using a pulse discharge driving scheme to provide internal memory, a monochrome current TV picture with 256 gray levels was reproduced on a small panel with 72 × 100 cells (horizontal cell pitch: 0.7 mm, vertical cell pitch: 0.5 mm).  相似文献

A new 40-inch-diagonal color dc plasma display panel (cell pitch: 0.65 mm, 800×1340 cells) with both a resistor-in-cell structure and a phosphor screen on the side wall and bottom of the cell has been developed through the improvement on the large-area panel fabrication technologies. Stable HDTV pictures have been experimentally reproduced on a compact display using the new panel and pulse memory drive circuits. The peak white luminance is 150 cd/m2. The lifetime of the 40-inch panel is expected to be over 30,000 hours, judging from the results obtained using a medium-sized panel under the same conditions  相似文献

Cadmium selenide (CdSe) switches have been devised to control the luminous emittance of electroluminescent cells in a solid-state display. The technique employed makes use of the hysteresis in CdSe to change the resistance of the material to some low value when a switching voltage is applied. In its low-resistance state, the CdSe switch can energize an electroluminescent cell connected in series with it. By wiring the cells in rows and the switches in columns, a display panel results in which each cell-switch combination can be individually addressed by energizing the appropriate row and column. This paper describes the principles of operation and outlines the construction techniques for this display. Performance characteristics of a 100-unit display panel are discussed. This panel, with 20 lines per inch resolution, has been operated with addressing pulses of 25 microseconds duration, providing an output brightness of 20 footlamberts. The construction process is adaptable to mass production, resulting ultimately in low cost. The display has memory thus allowing random access, and operates on very little power. Demonstration of this display represents a significant advancement in the state of the art. This small display possesses the characteristics necessary for development of practical large-area displays.  相似文献

With the objective of realizing a luminescent gas-discharge panel for color picture display, we made a comprehensive study of the various gas-discharge cells, including a planar positive-column (PPC) cell of our own design, with emphasis on the geometry of the gas discharge. First, ultraviolet spectroscopic measurements were performed on the PPC cell and on a conventional longitudinal cell filled with rare-gas mixtures. Next, the luminance characteristics of both types of phosphor-coated cells having various dimensions were examined from many points of view. As a result, fundamental differences in the luminescence characteristics between the positive column and the negative glow were revealed, demonstrating the excellence of the PPC cell for a luminescent color display. Furthermore, detailed measurements of luminance, luminous efficiency, and chromaticity were made for PPC cells coated with phosphors for the three primaries, giving basic data for the design of an actual display panel.  相似文献

Techniques of changing the state of plasma display cells with externally applied light are presented. Optical write-in offers the advantage of high-speed parallel data transfer from a photographic transparency to a plasma display panel. It is established that light incident on a plasma cell causes a photoemission from the inner glass surface. The emitted electrons perturb the wall voltage and cause a change in state. The intensity of light needed to change the state of cells can be reduced, without changing the solid panel materials, by two techniques, Electron avalanches initiated by the photoelectrons can be used to decrease the light needed by a factor of 100. By flashing light during the plasma display cell gas discharge, the intensity of the light can be further reduced.  相似文献

A flat dc-cyclic, gas discharge panel is described that employs a simple three-layer structure with a priming and a display anode in each cell. The priming anodes act in conjunction with phased cathodes to cause sequential breakdown of cells within a group of cell columns and the short-duration, low-current (and, therefore, low-brightness) discharges so formed serve to prime and select which cells will produce longer, high-current (and, therefore, high-brightness) discharges to the display anodes. The design is not limited to the 80-character/line display reported here; it can be extended to longer displays without the duty cycle or brightness being affected.  相似文献
