Although epoxy resins exhibit a wide range of useful properties for protective coatings on metal substrates, an increasing trend in the coatings industry toward more formable coatings places a severe burden on the traditional bisphenol. Presented in this work are the results of experiments with a new series of epoxy resins based on alkylenedioxy diphenols demonstrating the relationship between coating performance properties (formability, chemical resistance, and adhesion) and structural parameters such as resin backbone flexibility, degree of phenol/formaldehyde crosslinkmg, and concentration of OH groups in the backbone of epoxy resins. Optimizing the three structural parameters for the new resins results in substantial improvements in coating performance properties over the traditional bisphenol A based resins. 相似文献

High performance waterborne coatings were developed which could be utilized as an adhesive primer for sideseam bonded cans. The manufacturing process is unique; blending an epoxy / phenolic solution and an acrylic resin solution and dispersing the mixture in an aqueous medium by the phase transition method. The epoxy resins are neither chemically modified by grafting nor esterified by acrylic resin, which is thought to develop the excellent performance of epoxy / phenolic coatings. The morphology of the coatings and cured film was characterized and found to be quite different from the conventional waterborne coatings, i.e., the acrylic-modified epoxy resin systems. It was confirmed that acrylics and epoxy / phenolic resins exist in separate phases in the cured film, and that the epoxy / phenolic resin constitutes the continuous phase. 相似文献

Epoxy resins are key materials used in various applications, including coatings, adhesives, and composites. Tougheners, such as nanoparticles, soft polymers, elastomeric polyurethanes, and core/shell particles, have been widely applied to compensate for the brittleness of the epoxy matrix and to enhance the impact resistance. Modifying epoxy resin by reacting it with a flexible component is one of the representative methods to overcome the weakness of cured epoxy polymers upon impact. For introducing flexible parts, we synthesized three types of epoxy-modified resins by reacting acid anhydride with glycidol, followed by reaction with bisphenol [F, S, or J] glycidyl ether to produce flexible modified epoxy resins. Mechanical tests, such as flexural strength and impact resistance tests, were performed by adding various amounts of the synthesized resin to the epoxy composites. The results of these tests suggest that the modified resins were effective in improving the toughness of the epoxy matrix. 相似文献
