In consideration of the low efficiency of the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) with low-grade heat source (LGHS), an organic Rankine cycle with ejector (EORC) and a double organic Rankine cycle (DORC) based on the ORC is introduced in this paper. The thermodynamic first law and second law analysis and comparison on the ORC, EORC and DORC cycles are conducted on the cycle’s power output, thermal efficiency, exergy loss and exergy efficiency. Water is chosen as the LGHS fluid, and the same temperature and mass flow rate of the water is the standard condition for the comparative analysis on the cycles. The emphasis is on the thermodynamic performance at the maximum net power output of the cycles. The results show the power output is higher in the EORC and DORC compared to the ORC. And the cycle’s exergy efficiency could be ranked from high to low: DORC > EORC > ORC.  相似文献

This paper presents the integration of the Kalina cycle process in a combined heat and power plant for improvement of efficiency. In combined heat and power plants, the heat of flue gases is often available at low temperatures. This low-grade waste heat cannot be used for steam production and therefore power generation by a conventional steam cycle. Moreover, the steam supply for the purpose of heating is mostly exhausted, and therefore the waste heat at a low-grade temperature is not usable for heating. If other measures to increase the efficiency of a power plant process, like feed-water heating or combustion air heating, have been exhausted, alternative ways to generate electricity like the Kalina cycle process offer an interesting option. This process maximizes the generated electricity with recovery of heat and without demand of additional fuels by integration in existing plants. The calculations show that the net efficiency of an integrated Kalina plant is between 12.3% and 17.1% depending on the cooling water temperature and the ammonia content in the basic solution. The gross electricity power is between 320 and 440 kW for 2.3 MW of heat input to the process. The gross efficiency is between 13.5% and 18.8%.  相似文献

This paper investigates the possibility of enhancing the performances of micro-gas turbines through the addition of a bottoming organic Rankine cycle which recovers the thermal power of the exhaust gases typically available in the range of 250–300 °C. The ORC cycles are particularly suitable for the recovery of heat from sources at variable temperatures, and for the generation of medium to small electric power. With reference to a micro-gas turbine with a size of about 100 kWe, a combined configuration could increase the net electric power by about 1/3, yielding an increase of the electrical efficiency of up to 40%.A specific analysis of the characteristics of different classes of working fluids is carried out in order to define a procedure to select the most appropriate fluid, capable of satisfying both environmental (ozone depletion potential, global warming potential) and technical (flammability, toxicity, fluid critical temperature and molecular complexity) concerns. Afterwards, a thermodynamic analysis is performed to ascertain the most favourable cycle thermodynamic conditions, from the point of view of heat recovery. Furthermore, a preliminary design of the ORC turbine (number of stages, outer diameter and rotational speed) is carried out.  相似文献

The innovative configuration of low temperature solar thermal electric generation with regenerative Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is designed, mainly consisting of small concentration ratio compound parabolic concentrators (CPC) and the regenerative ORC. Advantages of the innovative configuration such as effectively reducing heat transfer irreversibility and permitting the use of thermal storage with phase change materials (PCMs) are outlined. The numerical simulation of the heat transfer and power conversion processes are carried out based on distributed parameters. The effects of regenerative cycle on the collector, ORC, and overall electricity efficiency are then analyzed. The results indicate that the regenerative cycle has positive effects on the ORC efficiency but negative ones on the collector efficiency due to increment of the average working temperature of the first-stage collectors. Thus, it is necessary to evaluate the overall electricity efficiency when regenerative cycle is adopted. Further investigation shows that there are maximum efficiencies for both the ORC and the system electric generation on conditions of constant irradiance, evaporation temperature, and environment temperature. And the regenerative temperature at which the system electricity efficiency reaches its maximum is smaller than that at which the ORC efficiency reaches its maximum by 12–21 °C. Thus, the regenerative cycle optimization of the solar thermal electric generation differs from that of a solo ORC. The system electricity efficiency with regenerative ORC is about 8.6% for irradiance 750 W/m2 and is relatively higher than that without the regenerative cycle by 4.9%.  相似文献

Traveling-wave thermoacoustic electricity generator is a new external-combustion type device capable of converting heat such as solar energy into electric power. In this paper, a 1 kW solar-powered traveling-wave thermoacoustic electricity generation system is designed and fabricated. The system consists of a traveling-wave thermoacoustic electricity generator, a solar dish collector and a heat receiver. In the preliminary tests, using electric cartridge heaters to simulate the solar energy, a maximum electric power of 481 W and a maximum thermal-to-electric efficiency of 15.0% were achieved with 3.5 MPa pressurized helium and 74 Hz working frequency. Then, after integrating the traveling-wave thermoacoustic electricity generator with the solar dish collector and the heat receiver, the solar-powered experiments were performed. In the experiments, a maximum electric power of about 200 W was obtained. However, due to the solar dish collector problems, the heating temperature of the receiver was much lower than expected. Optimizations of the collector and the heat receiver are under way.  相似文献

A new type of adsorber for an adsorption ice maker on fishing boats, which uses a compound adsorbent (activated carbon and CaCl2) and ammonia working pair, is designed. This type of heat pipe adsorber solves the problem of incompatibility between ammonia, copper, seawater and steel. The heating/cooling power for the adsorption/desorption process of the adsorbent, which is required to be transferred by one heat pipe in the adsorber, is computed by the test results of the adsorbent, and the heat transfer performance of one heat pipe in the adsorber is simulated according to the theory of the two phase closed thermosyphon. The heat transfer performance of the heat pipe can meet the heat demands for adsorption/desorption of the adsorbent when the evaporating temperature is −15 °C and the cycle time is 10 min. A test unit is set up to test the heating/cooling performance of the heat pipe type adsorber, and the experimental results are coincident with the simulation. The performance of a two bed adsorption ice maker with heat pipe adsorbers is predicted, and the cooling power is about 17.1–17.8 kW at the evaporating temperature of −15 °C and cycle time of 10 min with mass recovery between two 29 kg compound adsorbent beds.  相似文献

A small combined cold and power (SCCP) system is presented. An experimental study of the performance of the SCCP system is described. The gas fuelled SCCP system uses a micro gas turbine generator set and an absorption chiller. The test facility designed and built is also described. The rated electricity power of the micro gas turbine generator is about 24.5 kW at the experimental conditions. When exhaust gas from the micro gas turbine is used to drive the absorption chiller, the rated cooling capacity is 52.7 kW without supplying fuel to burn in the absorption chiller and 136.2 kW with supplying about 78.9 kW LPG fuel to burn in the absorption chiller, respectively. Primary energy rate (PER) and comparative saving of primary energy demand are used to evaluate the performance of the SCCP system. PER of the SCCP system decreases rapidly with the decrease of electric power output when the electric power output is less than 10 kW. The calculated results also show that comparative saving of primary energy demand of the SCCP system decreases with the decrease of electric power output and the SCCP system do not save primary energy comparing to conventional energy system when the electric power output is less than 10 kW.  相似文献

The paper reports on experimental results of an energetic characterization of a cogenerative plant. The generator is a microturbine Turbec T100-CHP integrated in a heat recovery system. For operation in standard conditions the maximum electrical and thermal power generated are, respectively, 105 and 167 kW. Experimental tests were run by varying the electrical power produced between 50 and 110 kW with 10 kW stepping. For each step the set-point of the water temperature at the outlet of the recuperator was varied in the range 60–80 °C with 5 °C stepping. In every operating condition the measurement system allows the real-time calculation of the quantities needed for the energetic characterization of the plant, such as efficiency indices and PES (primary energy saving index). It is seen that performances remain essentially constant in the range 80–110 kW. A moderate decrease is then observed until about 60 kW, while a further reduction of the electrical power implies a clear worsening (PES decreases from about 30% to 16% in the tested range). Furthermore, environmental impact has been investigated with respect to gaseous and acoustic emissions. In particular the concentration of pollutants in exhaust gases, except for NOx and CO2, strongly increases by reducing the electrical power output.  相似文献

A high temperature high lift solid sorption based heat transformer has been successfully designed and tested. The sorption reactor concept is based on a tube-fin heat exchanger where the heat exchanging fluids can flow through the hollow fins. The plates were brazed together with porous metal foam that was impregnated with either of the sorbents, LiCl and MgCl2. The adsorbate is ammonia. The batch system was tested as to the power delivered at high temperatures, 150–200 °C. Peak power at 200 °C was about 0.8 kW, the average power about 0.4 kW. The thermal efficiency, COP, was calculated from the experimental results to be 0.11. This is only 40% of the expected theoretical value and can largely be attributed to the thermal mass of the reactor.  相似文献

Computer simulation and analysis of a ground source heat pump system with horizontal ground heat exchangers operating in heating (max 5.5 kW) and cooling (max 3.3 kW) mode was carried out for a typical residential house, with 200 m2 of living space, located in Sapporo (Japan). In spite of high electricity rate, the ground source heat pump system is more beneficial alternative for space heating than an oil furnace and an electric resistance system. Besides, the heat pump technology offers relatively low thermal degradation of the ground environment, lower cost of heating and cooling, higher operating efficiency than electric resistance heating or air-source heat pump and is environmentally clean, i.e. without greenhouse gas emission, if the electricity is generated from renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar. The use of the cooling mode can provide further benefits like a shorter investment payback and human thermal comfort in summer. As a result, application of horizontal loops for new and retrofit residential and commercial use in northern Japan is feasible particularly in farmland areas.  相似文献

This paper discusses configuration, attainable performances and thermodynamic features of stand-alone plants for the co-production of de-carbonized hydrogen and electricity from natural gas (NG) based on commercially available technology. We focus on the two basic technologies currently used in large industrial applications: fired tubular reformer (FTR) and auto-thermal reformer (ATR). In both cases we assume that NG is pre-heated and humidified in a saturator providing water for the reforming reaction; this reduces the amount of steam to be bled from the power cycle and increases electricity production. Outputs flows are made available at conditions suitable for transport via pipeline: 60 bar for pure hydrogen, 150 bar for pure CO2. To reduce hydrogen compression power requirements reforming is carried out at relatively high pressures: 25 bar for FTR, 70 bar for ATR. Reformed gas is cooled and then passed through two water–gas shift reactors to optimize heat recovery and maximize the conversion to hydrogen. In plants with CO2 capture, shifted gas goes through an amine-based chemical absorption system that removes most of the CO2. Pure hydrogen is obtained by pressure swing absorption (PSA), leaving a purge gas utilized to fire the reformer (in FTR) and to boost electricity production. For the power cycle we consider conventional steam cycles (SC) and combined cycles (CC). The scale of plants based on a CC is determined by the gas turbine. To maintain NG input within the same range (around 1200 MW), we considered a General Electric 7FA for ATR, a 6FA for FTR. The scale of plants with SC is set by assuming the same NG input of the corresponding CC plant.Heat and mass balances are evaluated by a model accounting for the constraints posed by commercial technology, as well as the effects of scale. Results show that, from a performance standpoint, the technologies of choice for the production of de-carbonized hydrogen from NG are FTR with SC or ATR with CC. When operated at high steam-to-carbon ratios, the latter reach CO2 emissions chargeable to hydrogen of 10–11 kg of CO2 per GJLHV—less than 20% of NG—with an equivalent efficiency of hydrogen production in excess of 77%.  相似文献

An experimental analysis was conducted on a 30 kW fuel cell power train with the aim to elucidate specific concerns of dynamic behaviour of hydrogen fuel cells in automotive applications. The study was conducted on a dynamic test bench able to simulate the behaviour of the reference vehicle, a minibus for historical centres collective service, on predefined driving cycle. The transient performance of the fuel cell system was firstly investigated without electric drive, using as load electric resistances electronically controlled. Experimental data were collected during warmup phases characterized by two acceleration slopes (150 W/s and 1500 W/s) and during a sequence of dynamic test cycles characterized by a very high acceleration slope of about 6 kW/s. The role of reactant feeding, humidification and cooling systems was investigated during all tests evaluating the performance during the transient steps in terms of cell voltage uniformity, expressed by the coefficient of variation Cv, used as statistical indicator. A driving cycle characterized by stop-and-go pattern and acceleration slopes compatible with a real utilization of the reference vehicle was finally adopted for tests on the overall power train. The results demonstrated a very good dynamic performance of the fuel cell stack as evidenced by the analysis of Cv, which resulted lower than 2.5% in all investigated working conditions, and by the overall power train efficiency which resulted about 30% with fuel cell system efficiency close to 50%.  相似文献

Ammonia absorption chiller systems of a single-stage cycle and a Generator Absorber heat exchanger cycle (GAX) were simulated and studied. At heat source temperatures of TH = 120 °C, TM = 25 °C and TL = 5 °C, the coefficient of performances of the two cycles are 0.589 and 0.776, the GAX cycle is higher 31.8% than the single-stage cycle. And the exergy efficiencies of the two cycles are 15.4% and 27.4%, the GAX cycle is higher up to 77.9%. This paper proposes a new method that adopts the energy quality factor α as a evaluation criterion and also uses the αh diagram as a thermodynamic analysis tool graphically, and a concept that divides absorption cycle to a heat pump subcycle and a heat engine subcycle. By means of the αh diagram, the thermodynamic frameworks of the two cycles were illustrated. The comparison analysis indicates that the improvement of cycle performance depends on its thermodynamic perfectibility. In fact, the exergy demand of heat pump subcycle in the GAX cycle is as the same as that of the single-stage cycle, however, the energy cascading use and the exergy coupling framework of the heat engine subcycle in GAX cycle is retrofitted, so that the exergy consumption is reduced and the increased benefit is obtained from the overall cycle.  相似文献

Fuel cell power for locomotives combines the environmental benefits of a catenary-electric locomotive with the higher overall energy efficiency and lower infrastructure costs of a diesel-electric. A North American consortium, a public–private partnership, is developing a prototype hydrogen-fueled fuel cell-battery hybrid switcher locomotive for urban and military-base rail applications. Switcher locomotives are used in rail yards for assembling and disassembling trains and moving trains from one point to another. At 127 tonnes (280,000 lb), continuous power of 250 kW from its (proton exchange membrane) PEM fuel cell prime mover, and transient power well in excess of 1 MW, the hybrid locomotive will be the heaviest and most powerful fuel cell land vehicle yet. This fast-paced project calls for completion of the vehicle itself near the end of 2007. Several technical challenges not found in the development of smaller vehicles arise when designing and developing such a large fuel cell vehicle. Weight, center of gravity, packaging, and safety were design factors leading to, among other features, the roof location of the lightweight 350 bar compressed hydrogen storage system. Harsh operating conditions, especially shock loads during coupling to railcars, require component mounting systems capable of absorbing high energy. Vehicle scale-up by increasing mass, density, or power presents new challenges primarily related to issues of system layout, hydrogen storage, heat transfer, and shock loads.  相似文献

Efficient cooling system is an essential part of heavy duty extrusion pelleting line which plays an important role in production engineering of megaton polyolefin. In this paper, a new cooling system based on two-phase closed thermosyphon (TPCT) used in heavy duty extrusion pelleting line was presented. Comparative experimental results show that thermal performance of TPCT is more efficient, and the temperature uniformity is much better than traditional extruder (similar to coiled heat exchanger) in preheating process and extrusion reaction process. The effects of different operation conditions: filling ratio (0.2, 0.35, 0.5, 0.65 and 0.8), flow rate of cooling water (120 L/h, 180 L/h, 240 L/h, 300 L/h and 360 L/h) and heating power (7 kW, 9 kW and 11 kW) on thermal characteristics were experimental investigated, respectively. The results show that temperature of barrel inner wall increased significantly as filling ratio increased and evaporator appeared dry out when filling ratio is 0.2. The flow rate of cooling water affected the condenser section obviously, but had little influence on evaporation section. With increase of heating power, the start-up time decreases and the heat transfer coefficient increased. An ideal cooling scheme was concluded: the liquid filling ratio was 0.35, the cooling water flow rate was 180 L/h and the heating power was 11 kW when working medium was water.  相似文献

In this paper, two single-acting, twin power piston and four power pistons, gamma-configuration, low-temperature differential Stirling engine are designed and constructed. The engine performance is tested with air at atmospheric pressure by using a gas burner as a heat source. The engine is tested with various heat inputs. Variations of engine torque, shaft power and brake thermal efficiency at various heat inputs with engine speed and engine performance are presented. The Beale number obtained from testing of the engines is also investigated. The results indicate that, for twin power piston engine, at a maximum actual heat input of 2355 J/s with a heater temperature of 589 K, the engine produces a maximum torque of 1.222 N m at 67.7 rpm, a maximum shaft power of 11.8 W at 133 rpm, and a maximum brake thermal efficiency of 0.494% at 133 rpm, approximately. For the four power pistons engine, the results indicate that at the maximum actual heat input of 4041 J/s with the heater temperature of 771 K, the engine produces a maximum torque of 10.55 N m at 28.5 rpm, a maximum shaft power of 32.7 W at 42.1 rpm, and a maximum brake thermal efficiency of 0.809% at 42.1 rpm, approximately.  相似文献

The gas turbine-modular helium reactor (GT-MHR) is currently being developed by an international consortium. In this power plant, circulating helium that has to be compressed in a single or two successive stages cools the reactor core. For thermodynamic reasons, these compression stages require pre-cooling of the helium to about 26 °C through the use of intercooler and pre-cooler in which water is used to cool the helium. Considerable thermal energy (≈300 MWth) is thus dissipated in these components. This thermal energy is then rejected to a heat sink. For different designs, the temperature ranges of the helium in the intercooler and pre-cooler could be about 100 and 150 °C, respectively. These are ideal energy sources to be used in an organic Rankine cycles for power generation. This study examines the performance of a gas-cooled nuclear power plant with closed Brayton cycle (CBC) combined with two organic Rankine cycles (ORC). More attention was paid to the irreversibilities generated in the combined cycle. Individual models are developed for each component through applications of the first and second laws of thermodynamics. The effects of the turbine inlet temperature, compressor pressure ratio, evaporator temperature and temperature difference in the evaporator on the first- and second-law efficiencies and on the exergy destruction rate of the combined cycle were studied. Finally the combined cycle was optimized thermodynamically using the EES (Engineering Equation Solver) software. Based on identical operating conditions, a comparison between the GT-MHR/ORC and a simple GT-MHR cycle is also made. It was found that both the first- and second-law efficiencies of GT-MHR/ORC cycle are about 3%-points higher than that of the simple GT-MHR cycle. Also, the exergy destruction rate for GT-MHR/ORC cycle is about 5% lower than that of the GT-MHR cycle.  相似文献

The objective of this paper is to analyze the energy use profile of the babassu (Orbignya ssp—Palmae) oil extraction industry in Brazil in order to establish the basis for a cogeneration study of this important part of the Brazilian Northeast region economy, which is still ignored by energetic biomass studies. The work used information from new equipment suppliers that was analyzed against field information from operating units. The data was used to establish a basis for the thermal and mechanical energy consumption for the two main basic unit profiles for the sector: a simple one with just oil extraction and the other, more vertically integrated with other secondary by-products. For the energetic demand taken from the only oil extraction unit profile study, the minimum pressure for the steam process was estimated at 1.4 MPa, electric demand at 5.79 kW/ton of processed kernel and heat consumption at 2071 MJ/ton of processed kernel (829 kg steam/ton of processed kernel). For the vertically integrated unit profile, the following values were found: minimum pressure for the steam process 1.4 MPa, electric demand 6.22 kW/ton of processed kernel and heat consumption 21,503 MJ/ton of processed kernel (7600 kg steam/ton of processed kernel).  相似文献

An experimental study on in-tube flow boiling heat transfer of R-134a/R-290/R-600a refrigerant mixture has been carried out under varied heat flux test conditions. The heat transfer coefficients are experimentally measured at temperatures between ?8 and 5 °C for mass flow rates of 3–5 g s?1. Acetone is used as a hot fluid which flows in the outer tube of diameter 28.57 mm while the refrigerant mixture flows in the inner tube of diameters 9.52 and 12.7 mm. By regulating the acetone flow conditions, the heat flux is maintained between 2 and 8 kW/m2 and the pressure of the refrigerant is maintained between 3.2 and 5 bar. The comparison of experimental results with the familiar correlations shows that the correlations over predict the heat transfer coefficients for this mixture when stratified and stratified-wavy flow prevail. Multiple regression technique is used to evolve and modify existing correlations to predict the heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant mixture. It is found that the modified version of Lavin–Young correlation (1965) predicts the heat transfer coefficient of the considered mixture within an average deviation of ±20.5 %.  相似文献

This paper addresses recent activities relating to energy storage systems capable of delivering very high power. Specific power in the range of 2.0–2.2 kW/kg and power density in the range of 5.0–6.5 kW/l were obtained at current densities of 0.43–0.86 A/cm2 (400–800 A/ft2). The designs incorporate the use of thin, plastic bound electrodes laminated to nickel foil substrates. The units tested were nominal 28 V, 24 Ah batteries, as well as individual cells.  相似文献
