This work presents a scheduling algorithm to reduce the energy of hard real-time tasks with fixed priorities assigned in a rate-monotonic policy. Sets of independent tasks running periodically on a processor with dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) are considered as well. The proposed online approach can cooperate with many slack-time analysis methods based on low-power work demand analysis (lpWDA) without increasing the computational complexity of DVS algorithms. The proposed approach introduces a novel technique called low-power fluid slack analysis (lpFSA) that extends the analysis interval produced by its cooperative methods and computes the available slack in the extended interval. The lpFSA regards the additional slack as fluid and computes its length, such that it can be moved to the current job. Therefore, the proposed approach provides the cooperative methods with additional slack. Experimental results show that the proposed approach combined with lpWDA-based algorithms achieves more energy reductions than do the initial algorithms alone.  相似文献

Most dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVS) techniques adjust only CPU parameters; however, recent embedded systems provide multiple adjustable clocks which can be independently tuned. When considering multiple components, energy optimal frequencies depend on task set characteristics such as the number of CPU and memory access cycles. In this work, we propose a realistic energy model considering multiple components with individually adjustable frequencies such as CPUs, system bus and memory, and related task set characteristics. The model is validated on a real platform and shows less than 2% relative error compared to measured values. Based on the proposed energy model, we present an optimal static frequency assignment scheme for multiple DVS components to schedule a set of periodic real-time tasks. We simulate the energy gain of the proposed scheme compared to other DVS schemes for various task and system configurations, showing up to a 20% energy reduction. We also experimentally verify energy savings of the proposed scheme on a real hardware platform.  相似文献

Natural language processing has been studied for many years, and it has been applied to many researches and commercial applications. A new model is proposed in this paper, and is used in the English document-level emotional classification. In this survey, we proposed a new model by using an ID3 algorithm of a decision tree to classify semantics (positive, negative, and neutral) for the English documents. The semantic classification of our model is based on many rules which are generated by applying the ID3 algorithm to 115,000 English sentences of our English training data set. We test our new model on the English testing data set including 25,000 English documents, and achieve 63.6% accuracy of sentiment classification results.  相似文献

Real-time systems are often designed using preemptive scheduling and worst-case execution time estimates to guarantee the execution of high priority tasks. There is, however, an interest in exploring non-preemptive scheduling models for real-time systems, particularly for soft real-time multimedia applications. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm that uses multiple scheduling strategies for efficient non-preemptive scheduling of tasks. Our goal is to improve the success ratio of the well-known Earliest Deadline First (EDF) approach when the load on the system is very high and to improve the overall performance in both underloaded and overloaded conditions. Our approach, known as group-EDF (gEDF) is based on dynamic grouping of tasks with deadlines that are very close to each other, and using Shortest Job First (SJF) technique to schedule tasks within the group. We will present results comparing gEDF with other real-time algorithms including, EDF, Best-effort, and Guarantee, by using randomly generated tasks with varying execution times, release times, deadlines and tolerance to missing deadlines, under varying workloads. We believe that grouping tasks dynamically with similar deadlines and utilizing a secondary criteria, such as minimizing the total execution time (or other metrics such as power or resource availability) for scheduling tasks within a group, can lead to new and more efficient real-time scheduling algorithms.  相似文献

Process scheduling, an important issue in the design and maintenance of hard real-time systems, is discussed. A pre-run-time scheduling algorithm that addresses the problem of process sequencing is presented. The algorithm is designed for multiprocessor applications with preemptable processes having release times, computation times, deadlines and arbitrary precedence and exclusion constraints. The algorithm uses a branch-and-bound implicit enumeration technique to generate a feasible schedule for each processor. The set of feasible schedules ensures that the timing specifications of the processes are observed and that all the precedence and exclusion constraints between pairs of processes are satisfied. the algorithm was tested using a model derived from the F-18 mission computer operational flight program  相似文献

At early stages in the design of real-time embedded applications, the timing attributes of the computational activities are often incompletely specified or subject to changes. Later in the development cycle, schedulability analysis can be used to check the feasibility of the task set. However, the knowledge of the worst-case response times of tasks is often not sufficient to precisely determine the actions that would correct a non-schedulable design. In these situations, sensitivity analysis provides useful information for changing the implementation, by giving a measure of those computation times that must be reduced to achieve feasibility, or those that can be increased in case of a product extension, or providing the range of feasible periods for selecting the proper task activation rates. In this work, we exploit the concept of feasibility region to propose a faster and more concise solution to the sensitivity analysis problem with respect to existing techniques based on binary search. Furthermore, we show how the formalization of other problems in the feasibility domain, such as managing overloads through elastic scheduling, can be extended to the exact analysis.  相似文献

Reachability analysis of real-time systems using time Petri nets   总被引:13,自引:0,他引:13  
Time Petri nets (TPNs) are a popular Petri net model for specification and verification of real-time systems. A fundamental and most widely applied method for analyzing Petri nets is reachability analysis. The existing technique for reachability analysis of TPNs, however, is not suitable for timing property verification because one cannot derive end-to-end delay in task execution, an important issue for time-critical systems, from the reachability tree constructed using the technique. In this paper, we present a new reachability based analysis technique for TPNs for timing property analysis and verification that effectively addresses the problem. Our technique is based on a concept called clock-stamped state class (CS-class). With the reachability tree generated based on CS-classes, we can directly compute the end-to-end time delay in task execution. Moreover, a CS-class can be uniquely mapped to a traditional state class based on which the conventional reachability tree is constructed. Therefore, our CS-class-based analysis technique is more general than the existing technique. We show how to apply this technique to timing property verification of the TPN model of a command and control (C2) system.  相似文献

A static scheduling algorithm is presented for off-line scheduling of tasks in distributed hard real-time systems. The tasks considered are instances of periodic jobs and have deadlines, resource requirements and precedence constraints. Tasks are divided into nonpreemptable blocks and all task characteristics are known a priori. The algorithm orders the tasks and iteratively schedules the tasks according to the order. Each task is scheduled globally by selecting a node to which it is assigned. Then, the task is scheduled locally by adding the task to the schedule of the selected node. Heuristics are used for both task ordering and node selection in order to guide the algorithm to a feasible schedule. Whenever local scheduling leads to an infeasible schedule, backtracking is used.Results of simulation studies of randomly generated task sets are presented. Although the scheduling problem is NP-hard, the results show that time performance is acceptable for off-line scheduling, except for extremely difficult task sets which make extensive use of the available resources.  相似文献

CPS (Cyber Physical Systems) tightly couple their cyber factor and physical factor in distributed computing or Grids environments to provide real-time services such as avionics, transportation, manufacturing processes, energy, healthcare, etc. We need to consider not only the cyber space (CPU, network, storage systems, etc.) and the physical space (location, migration, etc.) but also the socio space and mental space for the precise analysis and useful services. In this paper, real-time scheduling algorithms, namely ELST (Effective Least Slack Time First) and H-ELST (Heuristic-Effective Least Slack Time First), are presented for CPS, where servicing node needs to move to serviced node for real-time services. We measure the real-time performance in terms of deadline meet ratio by mathematical analysis and simulations. The results show that our algorithms reduce a deadline miss ratio approximately up to 50% and 20% compared to the conventional real-time scheduling algorithm, FIFO (First In First Out) and LST (Least Slack Time First), respectively.  相似文献

The most important goal in hard real-time systems is to guarantee that all timing constraints are satisfied. Even though object-based techniques (which contain reusable software components) are used to manage the complexity in the software development process of such systems, execution efficiency may have to be sacrificed, due to the large number of procedure calls and contention for accessing software components. These issues are addressed by the following parallelizing techniques: (a) converting potentially inefficient procedure calls to a source of concurrency via asynchronous remote procedure calls (ARPC) (b) replicating (or cloning) software components to reduce the contention. The existing object-based scheduling algorithms construct an initial schedule and apply incremental parallelization techniques to modify the initial schedule till a feasible schedule is generated. But these algorithms are applicable for scheduling only multiple independent tasks. This paper describes a pre-run-time scheduling algorithm for a set of periodic object-based tasks having precedence constraints among them. The algorithm allocates the components of object-based periodic real-time tasks to the sites of a distributed system based on a clustering heuristic which takes into account the ARPC parallelism and load balancing, and schedules them on respective sites. The algorithm also finds a schedule for communication channel(s). Further, it clones the components of object-based periodic tasks, if contention occurs in accessing them. In addition to the above (periodicity and precedence) constraints, the tasks handled by our algorithm can have resource constraints among them. The experimental evaluation of the algorithm shows that the combination of the proposed clustering heuristic and cloning enhances schedulability.  相似文献

High temperature will affect the stability and performance of multi-core processors. A temperature-aware scheduling algorithm for soft real-time multi-core systems is proposed in this paper, namely LTCEDF (Low Thermal Contribution Early Deadline First). According to the core temperature and thread thermal contribution, LTCEDF performs thread migration and exchange to avoid thermal saturation and to keep temperature equilibrium among all the cores. The core temperature calculation method and the thread thermal contribution prediction method are presented. LTCEDF is simulated on ATMI simulator platform. Simulation results show that LTCEDF can not only minimize the thermal penalty, but also meet real-time guarantee. Moreover, it can create a more uniform power density map than other thermal-aware algorithms, and significantly reduce thread migration frequency.  相似文献

This paper presents an approach to the schedulability analysis of real-time systems modeled in time Petri nets by separating timing properties from other behavioral properties. The analysis of behavioral properties is conducted based on the reachability graph of the underlying Petri net, whereas timing constraints are checked in terms of absolute and relative firing domains. If a specific task execution is schedulable, we calculate the time span of the task execution, and pinpoint nonschedulable transitions to help adjust timing constraints. A technique for compositional timing analysis is also proposed to deal with complex task sequences, which not only improves efficiency but also facilitates the discussion of the reachability issue with regard to schedulability. We identified a class of well-structured time Petri nets such that their reachability can be easily analyzed.  相似文献

In this article we give an overview of the worst-case execution time (WCET) analysis research performed by the WCET group of the ASTEC Competence Centre at Uppsala University. Knowing the WCET of a program is necessary when designing and verifying real-time systems. The WCET depends both on the program flow, such as loop iterations and function calls, and on hardware factors, such as caches and pipelines. WCET estimates should be both safe (no underestimation allowed) and tight (as little overestimation as possible). We have defined a modular architecture for a WCET tool, used both to identify the components of the overall WCET analysis problem, and as a starting point for the development of a WCET tool prototype. Within this framework we have proposed solutions to several key problems in WCET analysis, including representation and analysis of the control flow of programs, modeling of the behavior and timing of pipelines and other low-level timing aspects, integration of control flow information and low-level timing to obtain a safe and tight WCET estimate, and validation of our tools and methods. We have focussed on the needs of embedded real-time systems in designing our tools and directing our research. Our long-term goal is to provide WCET analysis as a part of the standard tool chain for embedded development (together with compilers, debuggers, and simulators). This is facilitated by our cooperation with the embedded systems programming-tools vendor IAR Systems.  相似文献

Energy consumption of large scale systems has been severely studied due to economic and ecological reasons. This paper studies energy gains that come from the application of two popular energy saving techniques, Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) and Dynamic Power Management (DPM), in a real-time 2-level heterogeneous grid system. While these techniques generally work in a competitive way, we show that under certain circumstances they can work together and achieve greater savings when they are both applied at the processor level. A simulation model is used to evaluate the performance of the system. Experimental results show encouraging energy savings up to 46% and minimum performance degradation when both energy saving techniques are applied.  相似文献

In this paper, the challenge of fast stereo matching for embedded systems is tackled. Limited resources, e.g. memory and processing power, and most importantly real-time capability on embedded systems for robotic applications, do not permit the use of most sophisticated stereo matching approaches. The strengths and weaknesses of different matching approaches have been analyzed and a well-suited solution has been found in a Census-based stereo matching algorithm. The novelty of the algorithm used is the explicit adaption and optimization of the well-known Census transform in respect to embedded real-time systems in software. The most important change in comparison with the classic Census transform is the usage of a sparse Census mask which halves the processing time with nearly unchanged matching quality. This is due the fact that large sparse Census masks perform better than small dense masks with the same processing effort. The evidence of this assumption is given by the results of experiments with different mask sizes. Another contribution of this work is the presentation of a complete stereo matching system with its correlation-based core algorithm, the detailed analysis and evaluation of the results, and the optimized high speed realization on different embedded and PC platforms. The algorithm handles difficult areas for stereo matching, such as areas with low texture, very well in comparison to state-of-the-art real-time methods. It can successfully eliminate false positives to provide reliable 3D data. The system is robust, easy to parameterize and offers high flexibility. It also achieves high performance on several, including resource-limited, systems without losing the good quality of stereo matching. A detailed performance analysis of the algorithm is given for optimized reference implementations on various commercial of the shelf (COTS) platforms, e.g. a PC, a DSP and a GPU, reaching a frame rate of up to 75 fps for 640 × 480 images and 50 disparities. The matching quality and processing time is compared to other algorithms on the Middlebury stereo evaluation website reaching a middle quality and top performance rank. Additional evaluation is done by comparing the results with a very fast and well-known sum of absolute differences algorithm using several Middlebury datasets and real-world scenarios.  相似文献

With the emergence of multicore processors, the research on multiprocessor real-time scheduling has caught more researchers’ attention recently. Although the topic has been studied for decades, it is still an evolving research field with many open problems. In this work, focusing on periodic real-time tasks with quantum-based computation requirements and implicit deadlines, we propose a novel optimal scheduling algorithm, namely boundary fair (Bfair), which can achieve full system utilization as the well-known Pfair scheduling algorithms. However, different from Pfair algorithms that make scheduling decisions and enforce proportional progress (i.e., fairness) for all tasks at each and every time unit, Bfair makes scheduling decisions and enforces fairness to tasks only at tasks’ period boundaries (i.e., deadlines of periodic tasks). The correctness of the Bfair algorithm to meet the deadlines of all tasks’ instances is formally proved and its performance is evaluated through extensive simulations. The results show that, compared to that of Pfair algorithms, Bfair can significantly reduce the number of scheduling points (by up to 94%) and the overhead of Bfair at each scheduling point is comparable to that of the most efficient Pfair algorithm (i.e., PD2). Moreover, by aggregating the time allocation of tasks for the time interval between consecutive period boundaries, the resulting Bfair schedule can dramatically reduce the number of required context switches and task migrations (as much as 82% and 85%, respectively) when compared to those of Pfair schedules, which in turn reduces the run-time overhead of the system.  相似文献
