It is pointed out that many organizations have decentralized their operations to respond more quickly to rapid changes in markets and technologies. Decentralization has legitimized crossfunctional communication and decision making at relatively low levels in these organizations as a means of improving the quantity and timeliness of information. However, decentralization can adversely affect an organization's communications unless a new communication system is designed as part of the altered communication process. It is suggested that working within a new approach to organizational change, called sociotechnical design, technical communicators can help define performance standards for new communication systems, including those integrated with computer-mediated information systems. The objectives of sociotechnical design are consistent with the language-action perspective of the modern office. That perspective asserts that language organizes work relationships and actions by means of conversations (or transactions) in which requests and promises are made among individuals and groups. Every year that passes, new standardized and proprietary wireless communication technologies are introduced in the market that seeks to find its place within the already highly congested spectrum. Regulation bodies all around the globe are struggling to keep up with the continuously increasing demand for new bands to offer to specific technologies, some of them requiring by design an exclusive frequency band in order to operate efficiently. Even wireless bands offered for public or scientific usage like the ISM bands are becoming the natural habitat of multiple wireless technologies that seek to use or “abuse” them in order to provide even more bandwidth to their offered applications. Wireless research teams targeting heterogeneous wireless communication coexistence are developing techniques for enabling one-to-one coexistence between various wireless technologies. Can such an exhaustive approach be the solution for N wireless technologies that wish to operate in the same band? We believe that a one-to-one approach is inefficient and cannot lead to a generic coexistence paradigm, applicable to every existing or new wireless communication technology that will arise in the future. Can another approach provide a more generic solution in terms of frequency reuse and coexistence compared to the one-dimensional frequency separation approach commonly used in commercial deployments today. Can such a generic approach provide a simple and easily adoptable coexistence model for existing technologies? In this paper we present a new generic medium sharing model that solves the huge coexistence problems observed today in a simple and efficient way. Our approach is technology-agnostic and compatible with all existing wireless communication technologies and also has the capability to support emerging ones with minimum overhead.

The spread of online communication technologies has brought with it new perspectives on international communication. Now, with the Internet, email, and application service providers, interacting with coworkers an entire hemisphere away can be almost as easy as interacting with coworkers in the same building. As a result of the "leveling of distance" created by online communication technologies, new kinds of international business models have been proposed; models that attempt to reduce production costs while maintaining product quality. However, some of these models fail to account for cultural differences that could cause communication problems in international online exchanges. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the communications paradigm that can provide the potential of ultimate communication. The IoT paradigm describes communication not only human to human (H2H) but also machine to machine (M2M) without the need of human interference. In this paper, we examine, review and present the current IoT technologies starting from the physical layer to the application and data layer. Additionally, we focus on future IoT key enabling technologies like the new fifth generation (5G) networks and Semantic Web. 电子封装业界正遭受着前所未有的来自手机和其他移动通讯终端设备挑战。在这一领域里,IC封装的关键是尺寸微型化,缩减成本和市场时机。这一挑战的背后隐含着手机技术发展的两大趋势:系统模块化和日益增长的复杂性及功能。越来越多的功能正在被组合到手机上即PDA、MP3、照相机、互联网等等。功能的增加需要靠模块化来实现,而模块化又促进了更多功能的组合。同时,模块化使得移动通讯终端设备得以微型化、降低成本和缩短设计周期。业界越来越多地感受到整体射频模块和通讯模块解决方案的必要性。这些整体模块把手机设计师从电路设计的细节中解脱出来,从而能专著于高层的手机应用和系统的设计。为了满足上诉移动通讯产品的苛刻要求,大量的新兴电子封装技术和封装产品应运而生。最引人注目的例子在于对系统模块穴SiP雪和三维穴3D雪封装的重点资金和技术投入。这两项先进封装技术有着各自不同的特征和应用范围。总体介绍先进封装技术在移动通讯中的应用,重点讨论电子封装材料和工艺所面临的挑战和最新发展趋势。对移动通讯带来的新一轮集成化及其所产生的潜在供应链问题也做了适当的讨论。  相似文献

Scientists have recently learned of many surprosing roles played by human emotion — especially in cognitive processes such as perception, decision making, memory, judgment, and more. Moreover, psychologists have redefined human intelligence to include emotional intelligence, especially the ability to accurately recognise and express affective information. This paper suggests that affective intelligence, the communication and management of affective information in human/computer interaction, is a key link that is missing in telepresence environments and other technologies that mediate human/human communication. This paper discusses new research in affective intelligence, and how it can impact upon and enhance the communication process, allowing the delivery of the more natural interaction that is critical for a true sense of telepresence.  相似文献

Emergency response involves the management of several different types of critical infrastructures and resources. Because of the interdependent nature of these systems, it is often very difficult for human decision makers to determine what the second‐ or third‐order effects of their decisions or actions might be. This has resulted in the development of several simulation tools that could be used to evaluate decisions or behaviours and better inform decision makers about the potential impacts of their decisions. One area that remains underdeveloped in this regard is the engagement of communication technologies by human agents, which has the potential to seriously affect delay times in response coordination. Given the size and complexity of simulating the interconnection of heterogeneous systems, developing reduced‐order simulation models has become important to maintain reasonable computation times. This paper describes the derivation of the distribution of the total connection time for a communication link where multiple technologies are engaged. Results show that communication link simulation times, which are among the most time‐consuming simulation routines can be significantly reduced by using the closed‐form distributions.  相似文献

Recent advances in micro‐electro‐mechanical systems, wireless communication, low‐power intelligent sensors, and semiconductor technologies have allowed the realization of a wireless body area network (WBAN). A WBAN provides unobtrusive health monitoring for a long period of time with real‐time updates to the physician. It is widely used for ubiquitous health care, entertainment, and military applications. The implantable and wearable medical devices have several critical requirements such as power consumption, data rate, size, and low‐power medium access control (MAC) protocols. This article consists of two parts: body implant communication, which is concerned with the communication to and from a human body using radio frequency (RF) technology, and WBAN MAC protocols, which presents several low‐power MAC protocols for a WBAN with useful guidelines including a case study of IEEE 802.15.4, PB‐TDMA, and SMAC protocols. In body implant communication, the in‐body RF performance is affected considerably by the implant's depth and different polarization combinations inside the human body as well as by the muscle and fat. We observe best performance at a depth of 3 to 5 cm and not close to the human skin. Furthermore, the study of low‐power MAC protocols highlights the most important aspects of developing a novel low‐power and reliable MAC protocol for a WBAN. First of all are set the basis for an overall problematic on feeling how important the new communication technologies should be to business strategy in large companies. Then the adaptation to cultural logic is discussed and the innovative usage of new communication technologies as implemented in a given company are widely clarified. Especially the solution to ambivalent attitude towards new communication technologies is given when moving to innovation in some fields and by total lack of creativity in others. The cultural system as responsible for such kind of adaptation relies on a certain management logic intricately bound with economic technical and personnal promotion logics. Finally, the paper shows that changes in technology may contribute well to company development, the proper structure being already at hand, provided their cultural behavior consents to it.  相似文献
