The theoretical principles involved in the design of tuneable oscillators are presented in the context of a practical design which generates a sinusoidal output with a constant amplitude and low harmonic content over the range 7-2500 Hz in three overlapping bands, each with a continuous tuning range exceeding 20 : 1. We introduce a figure of merit ζ, the product of the fractional amplitude variation on tuning and the fractional harmonic content, and show that ζ = LλδL/L where L is the insertion loss at the resonant frequency w, (essentially L = Q-1) of the frequency selective element, δL/L its fractional variation on tuning and λ is a constant depending on the structure of the oscillator and of the amplitude control system. When a subsidiary low-pass control loop characterized by a time constant T, which influences the settling time, is used, λ is inversely proportional to w o T. 相似文献

In this paper a new CMOS transconductor structure based on a gm-boosted degenerated differential pair is presented for applications in the video frequency range. The proposed circuit combines two techniques, a switchable array of source degenerating MOS resistors and a programmable output current mirror, in order to widen the Gm tuning range while maintaining linearity. Degeneration MOS resistors are made common-mode voltage independent thanks to a simple control circuit. Post-layout simulation results from a 0.35 μm design supplied at 3.3 V show a wide tuning range (10–100 MHz), good linearity (−58.4 dB for an output signal voltage of 1.1 Vp–p) and low excess phase (<0.5° over the whole tuning range). 相似文献

A low phase noise with wide tuning range complementary LC cross-coupled voltage control oscillator (LC-VCO) using 0.18 μm CMOS technology is presented. This paper proposes a design formula for the choice of the value of varactor (ΔCvar) and band switch capacitor (Cs) for the binary-weighted band-switching LC tank which is convenient to determine the proper tuning constant for wideband, low-phase-noise operations. This general formula considers the ratio of frequency overlap (ov) and all the parasitic effects from band-switching capacitor array and transistors. The designed VCO using a 4-bit band-switching capacitor array demonstrates the operating frequencies from 4.166 to 5.537 GHz with an equivalent tuning bandwidth of 28.26%. The measured tuning range of all sub-bands is well agreed with that of the post-layout simulation results. The measured phase noise is −123.1 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset in the 5.2 GHz band. The calculated figure-of-merit (FoM) of this VCO was as high as −187 dB. When considering the tuning bandwidth the designed VCO obtains a FoM-bandwidth product of 52.83, which is much better than previously published works. 相似文献

A novel square-root domain (SRD) second order filter with automatic tuning control is described. The tuning system is based on a master-slave configuration, where the master is a SRD current-mode magnitude locked loop. The control circuitry allows tuning of the cut-off frequency as well as the quality factor and gain of the filter. The basic building blocks of the complete system are implemented employing a design strategy based on the inherent nonlinear characteristic of Class-AB linear transconductors. A proper biasing scheme in such transconductors leads to operation with very low supply voltages (as low as V/sub GS/+2V/sub DSsat/). Simulation and numerical results together with measurements from a fabricated prototype in a 0.8-/spl mu/m CMOS technology are included in order to validate the design technique proposed. 相似文献
