ABSTRACT

A cross-flow fluidized bed paddy dryer with a capacily of 200 kgh was designed, fabricated and tested. Experimental results showed that final moisture content of paddy should not be lower than 23 % dry-basis if quality is to be maintained. Drying air temperature was keot constant at 115°C according to the recommendation of previous work. Results obtained from the mathematical model developed in this study indicatedthat optimum operating parameters should be as follows : air speed of 2.3 m/s, bed thickness of 10 cm and fraction of air recycled of 80 %. At this condition, energy consumption was close to the minimum while drying capacity was near the maximum. A prototype fluidized bed dryer with a capacity of 1 t/h was designed, fabricated and installed with the collaboration of a private company. The unit has been used for almost the whole past harvesting season in 1994 at a paddy merchant sile with preference compared to conventional column continuous dryers. More than 300 tons of paddy were dried without any problems.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The objective of this paper is to design and test a prototype, 0.82 ton/h capacity, fluidzed bed paddy dryer for high moisture paddy. Exhausted air is paritially recycled. Experimental results showed that the unit operated efficiently and yielded high product quality in terms of head yield and whiteness. In reducing the moisture content from 45% to 24% dry-basis using air temperature of 100–120°C, fraction of air recycled of 0.66, specific air flow rate of 0.05, kg/s-kg dry matter, superficial air velocity of 3.2 m/s, bed depth of 0.1 m, total primary energy consumption was 2.32 MJ/kg water evaporated of which 0.35 was primary energy from electricity (electrical energy multiplied by 2.6) and 1.79 was primary energy in terms of heat.  相似文献

A mathematical model for the drying of grain in a continuous vibrating fluidized bed dryer was developed. Simple equipment and material models were applied to describe the process. In the plug-flow equipment model, a thin layer of particles moving forward and well mixed in the direction of the gas flow was examined. Mass and heat transfer within a single wet particle was described by effective transport coefficients. Assuming constant effective mass transport coefficient and thermal conductivity, analytical solutions of the mass and energy balances were obtained. The variation in both transport coefficients along the dryer was taken into account by a stepwise application of the analytical solution in space intervals with averaged coefficients from previous locations in the dryer. Calculation results were in fairly good agreement with experimental data from the literature. However, the results depend strongly on relationships used to determine the heat and mass transfer coefficients; because the results from correlations found in the literature vary considerably, the correlations should be adapted to the specific equipment in order to obtain reliable results.  相似文献

Abstract

The use of a fluidized bed dryer with a lateral air flow and mechanical agitation to the drying of sludge from a wastewater treatment plant was investigated. Experimental curves of moisture content vs. drying time, as well as heat transfer coefficients and the size characteristics of the products, were determined at temperatures between 80°C and 110°C, a stirring rate of 55 rpm and air velocity of 0.9 m/s for 3 kg sludge batches with initial moisture contents of 0.55 and 0.65 (d.b.). Experimental drying kinetics were compared with values derived from three models based on Fick's second law, namely: the constant diffusivity model, the simplified variable diffusivity model, and the modified quasi-stationary model.  相似文献

This research explores the production of low-moisture, high-rank coal using a batch-type, laboratory-scale, circulating fluidized bed to dry low-rank Indonesian coal with a high moisture content of 35 wt%. The operation was performed using air as a fluidization gas in a riser (a 4-m-tall pipe with an inner diameter of 0.04 m) at a gas velocity ranging from 2.0 to 2.7 m/s and a riser temperature of 80 to 150°C. The electric heaters were installed in the upper part of a downcomer to prevent the condensation of the evaporated moist- ure. The drying rate of the coal was investigated in terms of the inlet gas temperature, the gas velocity, and the drying time in order to determine the optimum operating conditions. Changes in the moist- ure content of the coal, before and after the experiments, were char- acterized by a proximate analysis, an ultimate analysis, the higher heating value (HHV), the lower heating value (LHV), a particle size analysis, and by the equilibrium moisture content. The results show that 70 to 80 wt% (wet basis, wb) of the total moisture can be reduced when the gas velocity of the riser is 2.0 m/s and the gas temperature is 150°C. In experiments, a simple mathematical model based on the heat and mass balances and a thin-layer drying model were simul- taneously used to predict the drying behavior of coal under the given operating conditions. In this work, a four-section pulsed fluid bed apparatus with a 0.18 m2 cross-section area was used to investigate the influence of pulsed-fluidization variables on the drying process of molecular sieves, a test material that was chosen because it presents an initial constant drying rate period. A two-level factorial design was developed to evaluate the influences of the inlet gas temperature—40 and 70°C—the frequency of pulsation—250 and 900 rpm—and the air flow rate—500 and 600 m3(STP)/h—on the drying rate. In addition, a comparison was made between the drying rates achieved with conventional and pulsed fluidization. Results showed that all the investigated variables affect the drying rate. Moreover, drying rates with conventional fluidization are considerably higher, which shows that one must expect a lower drying rate when pulsation is used in a drying process controlled by the external evaporation. Concerning fluid dynamics, this work also analyzed the influence of the frequency of pulsation on the pressure drop across the bed. The higher the frequency, the higher the pressure drop. That result can be explained by the reduction of channeling.  相似文献

Thermal behavior and stresses developed in a wood particle are predicted using a mathematical model formulated for drying in fluidized bed. Drying experiments have been carried out on 10 mm long and 30 mm diameter cylindrical disks at a bed temperature of 403 K (130°C). Drying time, mass reduction, and shrinkage during drying have been measured and used to validate the thermal model. The stress model is validated with an analytical solution available in literature. The drying time is experimentally found to be 630 s. The wood particle shrinks by 4.6% in the radial direction and by 1.0% in the longitudinal direction. The model indicates splitting failure at the circumference, which was also noticed during experiments.  相似文献

The drying kinetics of oil palm frond particles in a laboratory-scale agitated fluidized bed dryer were investigated under various operating conditions: inlet air temperature (50–80°C), superficial air velocity (0.6–1.0 m/s), bed load (200–300 g), and agitation speed (300–500 rpm). To study the effects of these variables on the drying time and drying rate, an experimental design using Taguchi orthogonal array was employed. Based on analysis of variance (ANOVA), the results indicated that inlet air temperature greatly affected the drying rate, followed by superficial air velocity and bed load. The effect of agitation speed on the drying rate was found to be small. The experimental drying kinetics data were compared with the values obtained from three different models, namely, the Page model, modified quasi-stationary method (MQSM), and a new composite model. It was found that the proposed new model could satisfactorily predict the complete drying rate curve for the drying of oil palm fronds.  相似文献

Experimental investigation on drying of ragi (Eleusine corocana) in a fluidized bed has been attempted covering the operating parameters such as temperature, flow rate of the drying medium, and solids holdup. The drying rate was found to increase significantly with increase in temperature and marginally with flow rate of the heating medium and to decrease with increase in solids holdup. The duration of constant rate period was found to be insignificant, considering the total duration of drying and the entire drying period was considered to follow falling rate period. The drying rate was compared with various simple exponential time decay models and the model parameters were evaluated. The Page model was found to match the experimental data very closely with the maximum root mean square of error (RMSE) less than 2.5%. The experimental data were also modeled using Fick's diffusion equation and the effective diffusivity coefficients were estimated. The effective diffusion coefficient was found to be within 5.7 to 14 × 10?11 m2/s for the range of experimental data covered in the present study with RMSE less than 5%.  相似文献

Residence time of paddy was approximately 1.3 minutes. Test results showed that moisture content of paddy was reduced from 32.6 % dry-basis to 25.8 % dry-basis. Consumption of electrical power and diesel fuel was 12.9 kW and 21.71 1/h respectively. Primary energy consumption was 910.9 MJ/h. The dryer could evaporate water 218.8 kg/h. Specific primary energy consumption was 4.2 MJ/kg-water evaporated. Cost of paddy drying was 1.48 baht/kg-water evaporated of which 0.53 was fixed cost and 0.95 was energy cost (US$1 =34baht).  相似文献

本文在两种不同的有机玻璃床中(φ50×1200+φ100×500 mm),采用示踪粒子的方法,对液固流态化的流况及其随液速的变迁进行了研究。实验发现,液固流态化的流况随液速的增大,首先由固定床进入均匀散式流化;当液連增大到某一值(本文称为起始湍流速度)后,床层将进入湍流流化状态;再进一步增大液速,则床层变成下部湍流流化和上部均匀散式流化共存的流化状态。在本实验条件范围内,实验测得的湍流流化床层高度与有关的参数关系为而床层的总高可由Richardson方程式求得。  相似文献

Fluidized bed dryers are utilised in almost every area of drying applications and therefore improved control strategies are always of great interest. The nonlinear character of the process, exhibited in the mathematical model and the open loop analysis, implies that a fuzzy logic controller is appropriate because, in contrast with conventional control schemes, fuzzy control inherently compensates for-process nonlinearities and exhibits more robust behaviour. In this study, a fuzzy logic controller is proposed; its design is based on a heuristic approach and its performance is compared against a conventional PI controller for a variety of responses. It is shown that the fuzzy controller exhibits a remarkable dynamic behaviour, equivalent if not better than the PI controller, for a wide range of disturbances. In addition, the proposed fuzzy controller seems to be less sensitive to the nonlinearities of the process, achieves energy savings and enables MIMO control.  相似文献

V-type amylose–lipid complexes present in partially parboiled rice can decrease starch digestibility. Formation of such complexes can be accomplished using high-temperature fluidized bed drying; the degree of the complexes depends on the thermal condition. The effects of drying media (hot air and humidified hot air), operating conditions (drying air temperature and relative humidity [RH]), and the initial moisture content on the degree of V-type crystallinity and subsequent starch digestibility (or glycemic index, GI) and brown rice texture were examined experimentally. The results showed that paddy drying with humidified hot air (HHA) requires a longer time than hot air (HA). Higher drying air temperature, RH, and initial moisture content of paddy yield higher degrees of starch gelatinization and V-type amylose–lipid complexes. The brown rice dried by HA or HHA had lower starch digestibility and a harder texture than the reference sample. Within the range of parameters studied, to obtain the lowest GI for the dried brown rice, paddy at an initial moisture content of 33% (db) should be dried by HHA at 150°C and 6.4% RH.  相似文献

Drying of diced carrot (∼90% wet basis) was carried out in a laboratory microwave fluidized-bed dryer (MFB) and in a standard fluidized-bed dryer (FB). It was found that the drying time in the MFB dryer is 2-5 times shorter than in the FB dryer. Drying efficiency (DE) is a function of moisture content, microwave power and temperature of drying agent. Higher values of DE are obtained for MFB dryer. For both drying systems the water removal was proceeding in two-stage falling rate period (except short initial term).  相似文献

本文利用一种新型复合振动充化装置,使在一般操作条件下无法实现正常流化的细颗粒床层处于良好的流化状态。通过观察发现,振动的引入可以破坏沟流的存在而使细颗粒流化;其振动流化有三种存在形式,提出了振动流化的物理模型和流化相同,可以解释细颗流化状态与振动条件及其物性的关系。  相似文献
