The objective of this work was to investigate the use of hydrothermal pre-treatment and enzymatic retting to remove non-cellulosic compounds and thus improve the mechanical properties of hemp fibre/epoxy composites. Hydrothermal pre-treatment at 100 kPa and 121 °C combined with enzymatic retting produced fibres with the highest ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 780 MPa. Compared to untreated fibres, this combined treatment exhibited a positive effect on the mechanical properties of hemp fibre/epoxy composites, resulting in high quality composites with low porosity factor (αpf) of 0.08. Traditional field retting produced composites with the poorest mechanical properties and the highest αpf of 0.16. Hydrothermal pretreatment at 100 kPa and subsequent enzymatic retting resulted in hemp fibre composites with the highest UTS of 325 MPa, and stiffness of 38 GPa with 50% fibre volume content, which was 31% and 41% higher, respectively, compared to field retted fibres.  相似文献

Ti3SiC2 filler has been introduced into SiCf/SiC composites by precursor infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) process to optimize the dielectric properties for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications in the temperatures of 25–600 °C at 8.2–12.4 GHz. Results indicate that the flexural strength of SiCf/SiC composites is improved from 217 MPa to 295 MPa after incorporating the filler. Both the complex permittivity and tan δ of the composites show obvious temperature-dependent behavior and increase with the increasing temperatures. The absorption, reflection and total shielding effectiveness of the composites with Ti3SiC2 filler are enhanced from 13 dB, 7 dB and 20 dB to 24 dB, 21 dB and 45 dB respectively with the temperatures increase from 25 °C to 600 °C. The mechanisms for the corresponding enhancements are also proposed. The superior absorption shielding effectiveness is the dominant EMI shielding mechanism. The optimized EMI shielding properties suggest their potentials for the future shielding applications at temperatures from 25 °C to 600 °C.  相似文献

The effect of adding graphene in epoxy containing either an additive (MP) or reactive-type (DOPO) flame retardant on the thermal, mechanical and flammability properties of glass fiber-reinforced epoxy composites was investigated using thermal analysis; flexural, impact, tensile tests; cone calorimetry and UL-94 techniques. The addition of MP or DOPO to epoxy had a thermal destabilization effect below 400 °C, but led to higher char yield at higher temperatures. The inclusion of 10 wt% flame retardants slightly decreased the mechanical behavior, which was attributed to the poor interfacial interactions in case of MP or the decreased cross-linking density in case of DOPO flame retarded resin. The additional graphene presence increased flexural and impact properties, but slightly decreased tensile performance. Adding graphene further decreased the PHRR, THR and burning rate due to its good barrier effect. The improved fire retardancy was mainly attributed to the reduced release of the combustible gas products.  相似文献

The electric heating and piezoresistive characteristics of CuO–woven carbon fiber (CuO–WCF) composite laminates were experimentally evaluated. Hybrid CuO–WCF composites were fabricated via a two-step seed-mediated hydrothermal method. The interlaminar interface between two plies of hybrid CuO–WCF/vinyl ester composite laminae was influenced by interlocked fiber–fiber cross-linking structures with CuO NRs and acted as electric heating and resistance elements. The contribution of CuO NRs (10–110 mM) to the interlaminar interface was determined by measuring the temperature profile, in order to investigate the electrical resistive heating behavior. At higher concentration of CuO NRs growth in the interlaminar region applied by 3 A, the average temperature reached to 83.55 °C at the interface area 50 × 50 mm2 and the heating efficiency was 0.133 W/°C owing to radiation and convection given by 10.5 W (3 A, 3.5 V). To investigate the piezoresistive response, the through-thickness gauge factor was observed at 0.312 during Joule heating applied by 2 A, compared with 0.639 at an ambient air temperature for CuO 110 mM concentration. The morphology and crystallinity of CuO NRs were investigated using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analyses, respectively. The temperature dependence of hybrid CuO–WCF composite laminates’ storage moduli were analyzed using a dynamic mechanical analyzer. These characterizations showed that the interlaminar interface, combined with the high specific surface area of CuO NRs, provided the electron traps for electrical conduction around multiple WCF junctions and adjacent cross-linked laminae.  相似文献

Novel non-toxic halogen-free flame retardants are replacing traditional flame retardants in polymer and polymer matrix composite structures. In this study, graphene nanosheet (GNS) is investigated in combination with traditional layered double hydroxide (LDH), layered rare-earth hydroxide (LRH), and phosphorus-based flame retardant (DOPO) to enhance the flame retardancy of epoxy resin. A synergistic flame retardancy effect is achieved in GNS/LDH and GNS/DOPO systems where combined GNS and LDH increased the viscosity of the epoxy melt, and limited the flame propagation through inhibition of dripping. The limiting oxygen index of epoxy increased from 15.9 to 23.6 with addition of 0.5 wt.% each of GNS and LDH. With the addition of 2.5 wt.% of both GNS and LDH, the total heat release of epoxy resin also reduced from 33.4 MJ/m2 to 24.6 MJ/m2. The synergistic effect of GNS and DOPO adopted a different mechanism. The addition of 2.5 wt.% of GNS and DOPO reduced the peak heat release rate from 1194 kW/m2 to 396 kW/m2, and the total heat release rate from 72.5 MJ/m2 to 48.1 MJ/m2. The synergistic mechanisms of the flame retardants were closely analyzed and correlated with the flame retardant properties.  相似文献

Polyimide (PI) composites containing one-dimensional SiC nanowires grown on two-dimensional graphene sheets (1D–2D SiCNWs-GSs) hybrid fillers were successfully prepared. The PI/SiCNWs-GSs composites synchronously exhibited high thermal conductivity and retained electrical insulation. Moreover, the heat conducting properties of PI/SiCNWs-GSs films present well reproducibility within the temperature range from 25 to 175 °C. The maximum value of thermal conductivity of PI composite is 0.577 W/mK with 7 wt% fillers loading, increased by 138% in comparison with that of the neat PI. The 1D SiC nanowires grown on the GSs surface prevent the GSs contacting with each other in the PI matrix to retain electrical insulation of PI composites. In addition, the storage modulus and Young’s modulus of PI composites are remarkably improved in comparison with that of the neat PI.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of pectin and hemicellulose removal from hemp fibres on the mechanical properties of hemp fibre/epoxy composites. Pectin removal by EDTA and endo-polygalacturonase (EPG) removed epidermal and parenchyma cells from hemp fibres and improved fibre separation. Hemicellulose removal by NaOH further improved fibre surface cleanliness. Removal of epidermal and parenchyma cells combined with improved fibre separation decreased composite porosity factor. As a result, pectin removal increased composite stiffness and ultimate tensile strength (UTS). Hemicellulose removal increased composite stiffness, but decreased composite UTS due to removal of xyloglucans. In comparison of all fibre treatments, composites with 0.5% EDTA + 0.2% EPG treated fibres had the highest tensile strength of 327 MPa at fibre volume content of 50%. Composites with 0.5% EDTA + 0.2% EPG  10% NaOH treated fibres had the highest stiffness of 43 GPa and the lowest porosity factor of 0.04.  相似文献

A new type of composites containing eutectic oxide fibres and a high entropy alloy (HEA) with a melting point of about 1450 °C as the matrix is obtained via liquid infiltration route. A low pressure of argon gas necessary to infiltrate a fibre bundle with the molten matrix alloy is an evidence of good wetting in this system that provides a sufficiently high strength to the fibre/matrix interface. Composite specimens were tested to measure the strength at 20–1300 °C. It was found that the composite strength does not decrease to a temperature of 1200 °C. The analysis of the microstructure and strength data suggests an expectation of a high creep resistance of the composites under development.  相似文献

H2Ti2O3·H2O nanotubes (TNTs) were prepared through hydrothermal synthesis and dispersed in bamboo fiber/HDPE (BH) composites to improve the flame retardancy of the composites. TEM observation showed that TiO2 particles were transformed into TNTs through hydrothermal treatment at 120 °C for 12 h in 8 M NaOH solution. Then, a cone calorimeter and a limiting oxygen index chamber were used to evaluate the effects of the TNTs on the flame retardancy of the BH composites. Results demonstrated that TNTs definitely improved the flame retardancy of BH composites by absorbing decomposition products from combustion due to its large specific area and tubular structure. Additionally, the TNTs reduced the free volume in the microzone, strengthened the molecular chain rigidity, and then contributed to the thermostability and flame retardancy of the BH composites.  相似文献

A Tyranno ZMI fiber/TiSi2–Si matrix composite was fabricated via melt infiltration (MI) of a Si–16at%Ti alloy at 1375 °C under vacuum. The Si–Ti alloy was used as an infiltrant to conduct MI processing below 1400 °C and inhibit the strength degradation of the amorphous SiC fibers. The alloy matrix formed was dense and comprised primarily of TiSi2–Si eutectic structures. The TiSi2–Si matrix composite melt-infiltrated at 1375 °C showed a pseudo-plastic tensile stress–strain behavior followed by final fracture at ∼290 MPa and ∼0.9% strain. When the MI temperature was increased to 1450 °C, however, substantial reduction in the stiffness and ultimate strength occurred under tensile loading. Microstructural observations revealed that these degradations were attributed to the damages that occurred on the reinforcing fibers and pyrolytic carbon interfaces during the MI process. The present experimental results clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of the low-temperature MI process in strengthening Tyranno ZMI fiber composites and reducing the processing cost.  相似文献

The aim of this research is to manufacture intermingled hybrid composites using aligned discontinuous fibres to achieve pseudo-ductility. Hybrid composites, made with different types of fibres that provide a balanced suite of modulus, strength and ductility, allow avoiding catastrophic failure that is a key limitation of composites. Two different material combinations of high strength carbon/E-glass and high modulus carbon/E-glass were selected. Several highly aligned and well dispersed short fibre hybrid composites with different carbon/glass ratios were manufactured and tested in tension in order to investigate the carbon ratio effect on the stress–strain curve. Good pseudo-ductile responses were obtained from the high modulus carbon/E-glass composites due to the fragmentation of the carbon fibres. The experimental results were also compared with an analytical solution. The intermingled hybrid composite with 0.25 relative carbon ratio gave the maximum pseudo-ductile strain, 1.1%, with a 110 GPa tensile modulus. Moreover, the initial modulus of the intermingled hybrids with 0.4 relative carbon ratio is 134 GPa, 3.5 times higher than that of E-glass/epoxy composites. The stress–strain curve shows a clear “yield point” at 441 MPa and a well dispersed and gradual damage process.  相似文献

Composites made of polypropylene and man-made cellulose fibres that are intended for injection moulding applications show potential for use in sustainable and light weight engineering with high energy absorption capacity. Due to the thermal sensitivity of the cellulose fibres, process parameters play an important role during the injection moulding process. A polypropylene and a man-made cellulose fibre were chosen for this investigation. Effective melt temperatures between 200 °C and 269 °C were used to process the compounds into test specimens. Tensile, impact and colorimetric tests, as well as an SEM analysis, and a measurement of the fibre length distribution were carried out in order to characterise the mechanical and optical properties of the composites. It was observed that the fibre length becomes shorter above 256 °C and elongation at break and Charpy strength (notched) of the composites already decrease at lower temperatures than tensile strength. A direct correlation between mechanical properties and discoloration was not observed. Therefore, melt temperatures up to 250 °C are suitable for these composites.  相似文献

A metal matrix composite has been obtained by a novel synthesis route, reacting Al3Ti and graphite at 1000 °C for about 1 min after ball-milling and compaction. The resulting composite is made of an aluminium matrix reinforced by nanometer sized TiC particles (average diameter 70 nm). The average TiC/Al ratio is 34.6 wt.% (22.3 vol.%). The microstructure consists of an intimate mixture of two domains, an unreinforced domain made of the Al solid solution with a low TiC reinforcement content, and a reinforced domain. This composite exhibits uncommon mechanical properties with regard to previous micrometer sized Al–TiC composites and to its high reinforcement volume fraction, with a Young’s modulus of ∼110 GPa, an ultimate tensile strength of about 500 MPa and a maximum elongation of 6%.  相似文献

Mechanical performance of three oxide/oxide ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) based on Nextel 610 fibers and SiOC, alumina, and mullite/SiOC matrices respectively, is evaluated herein. Tensile strength and stiffness of all materials decreased at 1000 °C and 1200 °C, probably because of degradation of fiber properties beyond 1000 °C. Microstructural changes in the composites during exposure at 1000 °C and 1200 °C for 50 h reduce their flexural strength, fracture toughness and work of fracture. A literature review regarding mechanical properties of several oxide/oxide CMCs revealed lower influence of fiber properties on composite strength compared with elastic modulus. The tested composites exhibit comparable stiffness and strength but higher fracture toughness compared with average values determined from a literature review. Considering CMCs with different compositions, we observed an interesting linear trend between strength and fracture toughness. The validity of the linear relationship between fracture strength and flexural toughness for CMCs is discussed.  相似文献

In order to employ polyethersulfone (PES) in cryogenic engineering field, its cryogenic mechanical performance should be examined and should also be improved to meet the high requirement for cryogenic engineering application. In this work, pure PES, graphene oxide (GO)/PES, short carbon fiber (SCF)/PES, GO/SCF/PES and GO-coated SCF/PES composites are prepared using the extrusion compounding and injection molding techniques. The tensile and flexural properties of these composites are systematically investigated at a typical cryogenic temperature (77 K). It is shown that the cryogenic mechanical properties are enhanced by the addition of GO, SCFs and coated-SCFs. In particular, the GO-coated SCF/PES composites display the greatly enhanced cryogenic mechanical properties with the highest values compared to other PES composites. In addition, it is exhibited that the cryogenic mechanical properties at 77 K of PES and its composites are far higher than those at room temperature (RT).  相似文献

Cu/diamond composites were fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) after the surface pretreatment of the diamond powders, in which the diamond particles were mixed with copper powder and tungsten powder (carbide forming element W). The effects of the pretreatment temperature and the diamond particle size on the thermal conductivity of diamond/copper composites were investigated. It was found that when 300 μm diamond particles and Cu–5 wt.% W were mixed and preheated at 1313 K, the composites has a relatively higher density and its thermal conductivity approaches 672 W (m K)−1.  相似文献

In this paper, the growth of n-type aluminum boron co-doped ZnO (n-AZB) on a p-type silicon (p-Si) substrate by sol–gel method using spin coating technique is reported. The n-AZB/p-Si heterojunctions were annealed at different temperatures ranging from 400 to 800 °C. The crystallite size of the AZB nanostructures was found to vary from 28 to 38 nm with the variation in annealing temperature. The band gap of the AZB decreased from 3.29 to 3.27 eV, with increasing annealing temperature from 400 to 700 °C and increased to 3.30 eV at 800 °C probably due to the formation of Zn2SiO4 at the interface. The band gap variation is explained in terms of annealing induced stress in the AZB. The n-AZB/p-Si heterojunction exhibited diode behavior. The best rectifying behavior was exhibited at 700 °C.  相似文献

Magnetically-sensitive polyurethane composites, which were crosslinked with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and were filled with Fe3O4 nanoparticles, were synthesized via in situ polymerization method. MWCNTs pretreated with nitric acid were used as crosslinking agents. Because of the crosslinking of MWCNTs with polyurethane prepolymer, the properties of the composites with a high content of Fe3O4 nanoparticles, especially the mechanical properties, were significantly improved. The composites showed excellent shape memory properties in both 45 °C hot water and an alternating magnetic field (f = 45 kHz, H = 29.7 kA m−1). The shape recovery time was less than one minute and the shape recovery rate was over 95% in the alternating magnetic field.  相似文献

A PMR polyimide composite reinforced with three-dimensional (3D) woven basalt fabric is fabricated for medium high temperature applications. The PMR polyimide matrix resin is derived from 4,4′-methylenediamine (MDA), diethyl ester of 3,3′,4,4′-oxydiphthalic (ODPE) and monoethyl ester of Cis-5-norbornene-endo-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (NE). The rheological properties of the PMR polyimide matrix resin are investigated. Based on the curing reaction of the PMR type polyimide and the rheological properties, an optimum two-step fabrication method is proposed. The three dimensional fabric preforms are impregnated with the polyimide resin in a vacuum oven at 70 °C for 1 h followed by removing the solvent and pre-imidization. The composites are then consolidated by an optimized molding procedure. Scanning electron microscopy analysis shows that needle shaped voids are generated in yarns and the void volume fraction is 4.27%. The decomposition temperature and the temperature at 5% weight loss of the composite post-cured at 320 °C for 24 h are 440 °C and 577 °C, respectively. The dielectric constant and the dielectric loss of the composite are measured by circular cavity method at 7–12 GHz. The tensile strength and the modulus in the warp direction of the composite are 436 MPa and 22.7 GPa. The composite shows a layer-by-layer fracture mode in three-point bending test. The flexure strength and modulus in the warp direction of the composite are 673 MPa and 27.1 GPa, respectively.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to analyze the methods and effects of introducing tungsten ions in a hexagonal barium ferrite structure by partial substitute of barium with tungsten. For this investigation we prepared a tungsten substitution on the barium hexaferrite Ba0.5W0.5Fe12O19 using sol–gel self-combustion technology. The powder was treated for 30 min, without atmosphere precautions, at 850 °C, 900 °C, 950 °C, 1000 °C and 1050 °C. Scanning electron microscopy has revealed the crystallite size and shape, and the X-ray diffraction was provided information related to the phase compositions. The investigation was focused on the variation of permittivity and electrical resistivity, in relation to the treatment temperature, frequency and humidity. We have also investigated the influence of thermal treatment on to Curie temperature and frequency characteristics of the relative permeability. Because barium–tungsten ferrite shows a porous structure, the measurements are strongly influenced by humidity conditions, and in this respect we analyzed the variations with humidity of permittivity and electrical resistivity.  相似文献
