Jini, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), Salutation, and Service Location Protocol are among the front-runners in this new race. However, choosing service discovery as the topic of the hour goes beyond the need for plug-and-play solutions or support for the SOHO (small office/home office) user. The technology available to building designers now makes it possible to monitor buildings on a very large scale. Video cameras and motion sensors are commonplace in practically every office space, and are slowly making their way into living spaces. The application of such technologies, in particular video cameras, while improving security, also violates privacy. On the other hand, motion sensors, while being privacy-conscious, typically do not provide enough information for a human operator to maintain the same degree of awareness about the space that can be achieved by using video cameras. We propose a novel approach in which we use a large number of simple motion sensors and a small set of video cameras to monitor a large office space. In our system we deployed 215 motion sensors and six video cameras to monitor the 3,000-square-meter office space occupied by 80 people for a period of about one year. The main problem in operating such systems is finding a way to present this highly multidimensional data, which includes both spatial and temporal components, to a human operator to allow browsing and searching recorded data in an efficient and intuitive way. In this paper we present our experiences and the solutions that we have developed in the course of our work on the system. We consider this work to be the first step in helping designers and managers of building systems gain access to information about occupants' behavior in the context of an entire building in a way that is only minimally intrusive to the occupants' privacy.  相似文献

This forecasting procedure, in use at our facility for ten years, has gone through many updates and changes. These updates have provided us with a system which is reliable, and addresses all of our requirements for flexibility and ease of operation.

In addition to production floor space, other categories of areas can be projected using this method. We have successfully used this same process to forecast office requirements, based on manpower projections. A percentage of the production requirement is established to forecast services, and laboratory needs. When added to the production and office floor space, a projection of the total facility floor space is provided.  相似文献

We envision future office buildings that partly or fully implement a flexible office organization where office rooms are dynamically assigned to currently present employees. Such organizational principles save required office space, therefore decrease costs, but require a sophisticated software system that is highly dynamic, scalable, context-aware, self-configuring, self-optimizing and self-healing. We propose an autonomic/organic middleware approach for such ubiquitous indoor environments with an extensive monitoring at different system levels and demonstrate the software by using our Smart Doorplate Project that is designed to support a flexible office organization.  相似文献

The ability to reliably merge independent updates of a document is a crucial prerequisite to efficient collaboration in office work. However, merge support for common office document standards like OpenDocument or OfficeOpenXML is still in its infancy. In this paper, we present a consistent versioning model for XML documents in general including merge support. This is achieved by using context-aware fingerprints that identify edit operations and allow for a conflict detection. We show how to extract tracked changes from office documents and map them on our delta model. Experimental results indicate that our fingerprinting technique is efficient and reliable.  相似文献
