如何在XML文档中表达时间相关的数据,跟踪历史信息和恢复文档在以前任意时刻的状态的问题,在最近的研究中受到不少的关注.许多文献提出了各种不同的模型.我们将这一类的问题归为索引时态XML文档的问题.本文将时态XML文档转换到n维空间的节点和直线,使用UB-tree对这些 N维空间的节点和直线进行索引,并针对时态查询提出了新的查询算法.通过实验证明,这样的索引比之前针对时态模型提出的索引具有更好的性能.  相似文献

XML path summaries are compact structures representing all the simple parent-child paths of an XML document. Such paths have also been used in many works as a basis for partitioning the document’s content in a persistent store, under the form of path indices or path tables. We revisit the notions of path summaries and path-driven storage model in the context of current-day XML databases. This context is characterized by complex queries, typically expressed in an XQuery subset, and by the presence of efficient encoding techniques such as structural node identifiers. We review a path summary’s many uses for query optimization, and given them a common basis, namely relevant paths. We discuss summary-based tree pattern minimization and present some efficient summary-based minimization heuristics. We consider relevant path computation and provide a time- and memory-efficient computation algorithm. We combine the principle of path partitioning with the presence of structural identifiers in a simple path-partitioned storage model, which allows for selective data access and efficient query plans. This model improves the efficiency of twig query processing up to two orders of magnitude over the similar tag-partitioned indexing model. We have implemented the path-partitioned storage model and path summaries in the XQueC compressed database prototype [8]. We present an experimental evaluation of a path summary’s practical feasibility and of tree pattern matching in a path-partitioned store.  相似文献

Recently, there is an increasing research efforts in XML data mining. These research efforts largely assumed that XML documents are static. However, in reality, the documents are rarely static. In this paper, we propose a novel research problem called XML structural delta mining. The objective of XML structural delta mining is to discover knowledge by analyzing structural evolution pattern (also called structural delta) of history of XML documents. Unlike existing approaches, XML structural delta mining focuses on the dynamic and temporal features of XML data. Furthermore, the data source for this novel mining technique is a sequence of historical versions of an XML document rather than a set of snapshot XML documents. Such mining technique can be useful in many applications such as change detection for very large XML documents, efficient XML indexing, XML search engine, etc. Our aim in this paper is not to provide a specific solution to a particular mining problem. Rather, we present the vision of the mining framework and present the issues and challenges for three types of XML structural delta mining: identifying various interesting structures, discovering association rules from structural deltas, and structural change pattern-based classification.  相似文献

Search operations and browsing facilities over an XML document database require special support at the physical level. Typical search operations involve path queries. This paper proposes a hierarchical access method to support such operations and to facilitate browsing. It advocates the idea of searching large XML collections by administering efficiently XML schemata. The proposed approach may be used for indexing XML documents according to their structural proximity. This is obtained by organizing the schemata of a large XML document collection in a hierarchical way by merging structurally close schemata. The proposed structure, which is called XML Schema Directory (XSD), is a balanced tree and it may serve two purposes: (1) to accelerate XML query processing and (2) to facilitate browsing. Content-oriented XML retrieval systems support access to XML repositories by retrieving, in response to user queries, XML document components (XML elements) instead of whole documents. The retrieved XML elements should not only contain information relevant to the query, but also provide the right level of granularity. In INEX, the INitiative for the Evaluation of XML retrieval, a relevant element is defined to be at the right level of granularity if it is exhaustive and specific to the query. Specificity was specifically introduced to capture how focused an element is on the query (i.e., discusses no other irrelevant topics). To score XML elements according to how exhaustive and specific they are given a query, the content and logical structure of XML documents have been widely used. One source of evidence that has led to promising results with respect to retrieval effectiveness is element length. This work aims at examining a new source of evidence deriving from the semantic decomposition of XML documents. We consider that XML documents can be semantically decomposed through the application of a topic segmentation algorithm. Using the semantic decomposition and the logical structure of XML documents, we propose a new source of evidence, the number of topic shifts in an element, to reflect its relevance and more particularly its specificity. This paper has three research objectives. Firstly, we investigate the characteristics of XML elements reflected by their number of topic shifts. Secondly, we compare topic shifts to element length, by incorporating each of them as a feature in a retrieval setting and examining their effects in estimating the relevance of XML elements given a query. Finally, we use the number of topic shifts as evidence for capturing specificity to provide a focused access to XML repositories.  相似文献

路径查询是XML查询的一个主要特征,现已提出了多种XML索引方法.DTD的结构信息对于XML索引的建立及查询效率的提高很重要,但现有的大部分索引方法没有利用DTD这一有效资源,提出一种利用DTD的XML索引方法——DBXI(DTD-based XML indexing),该方法采用了新的编码方法,可使路径查询具备如下特征:对于由N个元素/属性组成的具有1个谓词约束的路径表达式,DBXI处理每个XML文档仅需0次或1次元素/属性结点集的结构连接操作;对于在XML文档中不存在匹配结构的路径查询,DBXI能够在比现有的XML索引方法较短的时间内给出无查询结果的判断.实验表明,与Lore,SphinX和XISS等索引方法相比,DBXI能够缩短路径查询的响应时间.  相似文献

Text search engines are inadequate for indexing and searching XML documents because they ignore metadata and aggregation structure implicit in the XML documents. On the other hand, the query languages supported by specialized XML search engines are very complex. In this paper, we present a simple yet flexible query language, and develop its semantics to enable intuitively appealing extraction of relevant fragments of information while simultaneously falling back on retrieval through plain text search if necessary. Our approach combines and generalizes several available techniques to obtain precise and coherent results.

An important application of XML is the interchange of electronic data (EDI) between multiple data sources on the Web. As XML data proliferates on the Web, applications will need to integrate and aggregate data from multiple source and clean and transform data to facilitate exchange. Data extraction, conversion, transformation, and integration are all well-understood database problems, and their solutions rely on a query language. We present a query language for XML, called XML-QL, which we argue is suitable for performing the above tasks. XML-QL is a declarative, `relational complete' query language and is simple enough that it can be optimized. XML-QL can extract data from existing XML documents and construct new XML documents.  相似文献

The hierarchical and semistructured nature of XML data may cause complicated update behavior. Updates should not be limited to entire document trees, but should ideally involve subtrees and even individual elements. Providing a suitable scheduling algorithm for semistructured data can significantly improve collaboration systems that store their data—e.g., word processing documents or vector graphics—as XML documents. In this paper we show that concurrency control mechanisms in CVS, relational, and object-oriented database systems are inadequate for collaborative systems based on semistructured data. We therefore propose two new locking schemes based on path locks which are tightly coupled to the document instance. We also introduce two scheduling algorithms that can both be used with any of the two proposed path lock schemes. We prove that both schedulers guarantee serializability, and show that the conflict rules are necessary.  相似文献

XML has already become the de facto standard for specifying and exchanging data on the Web. However, XML is by nature verbose and thus XML documents are usually large in size, a factor that hinders its practical usage, since it substantially increases the costs of storing, processing, and exchanging data. In order to tackle this problem, many XML-specific compression systems, such as XMill, XGrind, XMLPPM, and Millau, have recently been proposed. However, these systems usually suffer from the following two inadequacies: They either sacrifice performance in terms of compression ratio and execution time in order to support a limited range of queries, or perform full decompression prior to processing queries over compressed documents.In this paper, we address the above problems by exploiting the information provided by a Document Type Definition (DTD) associated with an XML document. We show that a DTD is able to facilitate better compression as well as generate more usable compressed data to support querying. We present the architecture of the XCQ, which is a compression and querying tool for handling XML data. XCQ is based on a novel technique we have developed called DTD Tree and SAX Event Stream Parsing (DSP). The documents compressed by XCQ are stored in Partitioned Path-Based Grouping (PPG) data streams, which are equipped with a Block Statistics Signature (BSS) indexing scheme. The indexed PPG data streams support the processing of XML queries that involve selection and aggregation, without the need for full decompression. In order to study the compression performance of XCQ, we carry out comprehensive experiments over a set of XML benchmark datasets. His research interests are in the areas of databases and information Systems, which include XML data, database query languages, web data management, and data mining. Mark Levene received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1990 from Birkbeck College, University of London, having previously been awarded a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Auckland University, New Zealand in 1982. He is currently professor of Computer Science at Birkbeck College, where he is a member of the Information Management and Web Technologies research group. His main research interests are Web search and navigation, Web data mining and stochastic models for the evolution of the Web. 针对XML数据特有的树型结构模式,提出了一种将树型结构的XML数据和查询语句转化为特定格式的字符串,基于串匹配原理对结构复杂的XML数据进行查询的方法,避免了传统的基于路径的查询方式所必需的路径之间的连接(join)操作,从而提高查询效率。利用本文提出的编码方式,可以建立关于XML数据结构和数据内容舍为一体的索引。实验显示,本文使用的针对XML数据查询的方法比传统的基于连接操作的数据查询方式高效,且本方法具有良好的扩展性。  相似文献

In this paper, we present the design and performance of XCube, a tag-based system for managing XML data in a hypercube overlay network. In XCube, each node in a d-dimensional hypercube is identified by a d-bit vector. A peer manages a smaller hypercube with dimension d′?d. An XML document is compactly represented as a structure summary and a content summary. The structure summary comprises a d-bit vector derived from the distinct tag names in the document and a synopsis capturing the structure of the document. The content summary consists of a bit map that summarizes the document content. The metadata of a document, i.e., owner IP, document identifier, structure summary and content summary, is indexed at its anchor peer (the peer that manages the node with matching bit vector). In addition, the structure summary is further indexed at all peers that manages nodes whose bit vectors are covered by the document’s bit vector. An XPath query is processed in four phases. In phase 1, the query is routed to its anchor peer according to the bit vector of the query. In phase 2, the query is evaluated against all the synopses stored in its anchor peer and forwarded to the anchor peers of the matching synopses. In phase 3, the anchor peer of each related synopsis examines the query on the related bit maps and forwards the query to the related owner peers. Finally in phase 4, the owner peers evaluate the query on the XML documents and return answers to the querying peer. We also present a scheme that dynamically partitions the hypercube to balance the load across peers. We further exploit the partition history to remove redundant messages. We conduct a comprehensive experimental study and the results show the efficiency of XCube.  相似文献

GML文档是XML技术在GIS方面的应用,成为空间数据在Internet上的实际表示、传输和交换的标准。目前,GML文档的查询是GIS领域的研究热点。对这一问题,研究了GML文档的数据特点和结构特点,设计了一种新的索引结构--GB树,GB树是专门针对GML文档中空间数据节点的索引结构。将XML Twig模式查询思想引入GML文档查询,借助GB树的索引特点,提出了GML文档的Twig模式查询算法--GMLTwigStackGB。GMLTwigStackGB算法保留了XML文档Twig模式查询算法的优势和特点,具有完整的空间查询功能。测试实验表明,该算法能够高效地满足GML文档上的各种数据查询。  相似文献

XML's increasing diffusion makes efficient XML query processing and indexing all the more critical. Given the semistructured nature of XML documents, however, general query processing techniques won't work. Researchers have proposed several specialized indexing methods that offer query processors efficient access to XML documents, although none are yet fully implemented in commercial products. In this article the classification of XML indexing techniques identifies current practices and trends, offering insight into how developers can improve query processing and select the best solution for particular contexts.  相似文献

Program slicing is a well-known technique to extract the program statements that (potentially) affect the values computed at some point of interest. In this work, we introduce a novel slicing method for XML documents. Essentially, given an XML document (which is valid w.r.t. some DTD), we produce a new XML document (a slice) that contains the relevant information in the original XML document according to some criterion. Furthermore, we also output a new DTD such that the computed slice is valid w.r.t. this DTD. A prototype implementation of the XML slicer has been undertaken.  相似文献

To populate a data warehouse specifically designed for Web data, i.e. web warehouse, it is imperative to harness relevant documents from the Web. In this paper, we describe a query mechanism called coupling query to glean relevant Web data in the context of our web warehousing system called Warehouse Of Web Data (WHOWEDA). Coupling query may be used for querying both HTML and XML documents. Some of the important features of our query mechanism are ability to query metadata, content, internal and external (hyperlink) structure of Web documents based on partial knowledge, ability to express constraints on tag attributes and tagless segment of data, ability to express conjunctive as well as disjunctive query conditions compactly, ability to control execution of a web query and preservation of the topological structure of hyperlinked documents in the query results. We also discuss how to formulate query graphically and in textual form using coupling graph and coupling text, respectively.  相似文献
