Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) will distinguish urea formaldehyde (UF) resin on the surface of medium density fibreboard (MDF) fibre. High spatial resolution XPS imaging was employed to 2-dimensionally map the presence and concentration of carbon and nitrogen on pressed MDF fibre. Using image analysis routines, composite XPS images of fibre and UF resin were produced for laboratory and commercially prepared MDF panels using the C1s and N1s peaks respectively. Results showed that MDF could be analysed directly, and the presence of UF resin features imaged on fibre was comparable to UF resin characterised by confocal microscopy. Due to low surface nitrogen contents, the XPS imaging instrument was necessarily operated at a low resolution, and with a relatively small field of view. This may make the XPS imaging method less attractive for visualising UF resin on wood fibre compared to other microscopy techniques. 相似文献

In the present work, medium density fiberboard (MDF) panels were produced using multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) reinforced urea formaldehyde resin. Response surface methodology was employed to optimize the relationship between the three variables, viz. pressing time, percentage of UF resin and percentage of MWCNT, used in the fabrication of MDF, and the influence of variables on the internal bonding (IB) and modulus of rupture (MOR) was studied. The optimum conditions based on the IB strength were determined as 8.18 % of UF resin, pressing time of 232 s, and MWCNT of 3.5 %. Similarly, the optimized conditions for MOR are also reported in this paper. 相似文献

In this study, the effect of Al2O3 nanoparticles on the heat-transfer properties of medium density fiberboard (MDF) was investigated. Al2O3 nanoparticles were added at two levels (0.5 and 1.0 %) by percentage weight fraction of dry wood fibers to urea formaldehyde (UF) resin. The core temperature profile and thermal conductivity tests showed higher rate of heat transfer after addition of nanoparticles, subsequently it has improved the bonding strength of MDF. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to estimate the heat evolved during the exothermic reaction of UF resin curing. Scanning electron microscopy shows good dispersion of nanoparticles. Thermal conductivity of UF resin improved after nanoparticles addition proved by KD2 pro results. Modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity and thickness swelling also improved. 相似文献
