In this study, the relationships between dietary fat [as measured by serum cholesterol ester fatty acids (CE-FA)], age, smoking, body mass index, and serum lipids were analyzed in 151 subsistence horticulturalists, aged 20–86 yr, from Kitava, Trobriand Islands, Papua New Guinea. Their diet consists of tubers, fruit, coconut, fish, and vegetables with a negligible influence of western food and alcohol. Total fat intake is low [21% of energy (en%)], while saturated fat intake from coconuts is high (17 en%, mainly lauric and myristic acid). In multivariate analysis, 11–43% of the variation of the serum lipoprotein composition was explained by CE-FA, age, and smoking habits. The proportion of CE20∶5n-3 explained much of the variation of triglycerides (TG, negative relation) and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C, positive) in both sexes and serum apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1, positive) in the males. CE16∶0 was positively related to TG and negatively related to HDL-C and ApoA1 in both sexes, and in males it related negatively to total cholesterol (TC) and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDI-C). In males, negative relationships were present between CE18∶2n-6 and TC and between CE14∶0 and serum lipoprotein(a). Smoking was independently associated with lower ApoA1 in both sexes and with lower HDL-C and higher TG, TC, LDL-C, and apolipoprotein B in males. In conclusion, marine n-3 fatty acids and linoleic acid showed the same potentially beneficial relationships with lipoproteins and apolipoproteins as in western populations. The relations of palmitic acid to serum lipids may be explained in terms of endogenous fat synthesis at a low-fat intake, rather than reflecting its relative intake.  相似文献

Background

The need to promote a healthy diet to curb the current obesity epidemic has today been recognized by most countries. A prerequisite for planning and evaluating interventions on dietary intake is the existence of valid information on long-term average dietary intake in a population. Few large, population-based studies of dietary intake have been carried out in Sweden. The largest to date is the Västerbotten Intervention Program (VIP), which was initiated in 1985, with data collection still ongoing. This paper reports on the first comprehensive analyses of the dietary data and presents dietary intake patterns among over 60,000 women and men in northern Sweden during 1992–2005.

Methods

Between 1992 and 2005, 71,367 inhabitants in Västerbotten county aged 30, 40, 50, and 60 years visited their local health care center as part of the VIP. Participants of VIP filled in an 84- or 64-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and provided sociodemographic information. Complete and realistic information on consumption frequency was provided by 62,531 individuals. Food intake patterns were analyzed using K-means cluster analyses.

Results

The mean daily energy intake was 6,83 (± 1,77) MJ among women and 8,71 (± 2,26) MJ among men. More than half of both women and men were classified as Low Energy Reporters (defined as individuals reporting a food intake level below the lower 95% confidence interval limit of the physical activity level). Larger variation in frequency of daily intake was seen among women than among men for most food groups. Among women, four dietary clusters were identified, labeled "Fruit and vegetables", "High fat", "Coffee and sandwich", and "Tea and ice cream". Among men, three dietary clusters were identified, labeled "Fruit and vegetables", "High fat", and "Tea, soda and cookies".

Conclusion

More distinct food intake patterns were seen among women than men in this study in northern Sweden. Due to large proportions of Low Energy Reporters, our results on dietary intake may not be suitable for comparisons with recommended intake levels. However, the results on food intake patterns should still be valid and useful as a basis for targeting interventions to groups most in need.  相似文献

Fish consumption and intake of omega-3 fatty acids from fish are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. However, a prospective study from northern Sweden showed that high consumption of fish is associated with an increased risk of stroke in men, but not in women. The current study aimed to determine if fish consumption is differently related to lifestyle in men compared with women in northern Sweden. Lifestyle information on 32,782 men and 34,866 women (aged 30–60 years) was collected between 1992 and 2006 within the Västerbotten Intervention Programme (a health intervention in northern Sweden). Spearman correlations coefficients (Rs) were calculated between self-reported consumption of fish and other food items. Lifestyle variables were compared between fish consumption categories. Fish consumption was positively associated with other foods considered healthy (e.g., root vegetables, lettuce/cabbage/spinach/broccoli, chicken, and berries; Rs = 0.21-0.30), as well as with other healthy lifestyle factors (e.g., exercise and not smoking) and a higher educational level, in both men and women. The only gender difference found, concerned the association between fish consumption and alcohol consumption. Men who were high consumers of fish had a higher intake of all types of alcohol compared with low to moderate fish consumers. For women, this was true only for wine. Except for alcohol, the association between fish consumption and healthy lifestyle did not differ between men and women in northern Sweden. It is important to adjust for other lifestyle variables and socioeconomic variables in studies concerning the effect of fish consumption on disease outcome.  相似文献

Evidence from animal and human studies indicates that abnormal lipid profile may contribute to renal disease progression. The effect of dietary fat level on renal function, electrolyte balance, cholesterol, triacylglycerol, and sex hormones was examined in 54 male and female adult rats. The rats were fed either low/high fat diet (3/20 g/100 g diet) for 12 weeks. In rats fed the high fat diet (HF), the kidney weight/body weight ratio was significantly increased in comparison with low fat diet (LF). Rats fed the LF diet had significantly lower mean of feed intake and body weight gain percentage compared with both HF and control groups (p<0.05). HF diets enhanced cholesterol and triacylglycerol significantly in male and female rats, and this increase was associated with a significant increase of testosterone and estradiol levels relative to controls. Uric acid, urea nitrogen and creatinine were increased significantly in HF diet groups for male and female rats. The results indicate that uric acid was increased 100% relative to the control group in male rats when switched to HF diets. In the female group uric acid was increased 35% relative to the control, and for urea nitrogen, 53.4 and 9.6% increase was observed for male and female rats, respectively. Lipid profile in the female group was better than male rats. Significant increase in sodium ions was detected in the serum of male and female rats fed (HF) high fat diets, and the opposite was noticed in potassium ions levels of male and female rats fed HF. Microscopically, examined kidneys of HF diet rats revealed two types of histopathological alterations in both sexes.  相似文献

Background

The relationship between fish intake and stroke incidence has been inconsistent in previous Swedish studies. Here, we report the risk of stroke and fish intake in a cohort from southern Sweden.

Findings

Data were obtained from an already available population based case-control study where the cases were defined as incident first-time ischemic stroke patients. Complete data on all relevant variables were obtained for 2722 controls and 2469 cases. The data were analyzed with logistic regression analysis. Stroke risk decreased with fat fish intake ([greater than or equal to] 1/week versus <1/month) in both men and women; adjusted pooled Odds Ratio (OR) 0.69, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.54-0.89. However, stroke risk for women increased with intake of lean fish; adjusted OR 1.63 (95% CI: 1.17-2.28), whereas there was no association with men's lean fish intake; adjusted OR 0.97(95% CI: 0.73-1.27). Fish intake was self-reported retrospectively, yielding uncertain exposure assessment and potential recall bias. The findings regarding lean fish could be explained by recall bias if an individual's inclination to report lean fish consumption depended on both disease status and sex. The fact that the association between fat fish intake and stroke was similar in men and women does not support such a differential in recall.

Conclusions

The results suggest fat fish intake to decrease ischemic stroke risk and lean fish intake to increase women's stroke risk. The inconsistent relationship between fish intake and stroke risk reported in previous studies is further stressed by the results of this study.  相似文献

This study evaluated the effects of dietary supplementation of gamma-Linolenic acid (18:3n-6, GLA) on the lipid profile of serum and other tissues of rats fed erucic acid (C22:1) rich oil like mustard oil. The rats were fed diet containing 20% mustard oil as erucic acid rich oil and 20% groundnut oil as dietary fat. These groups were kept as reference groups. Another group fed diet containing 20% fat to which evening primrose oil as a source of GLA was blended with mustard oil and groundnut oil at 5% level. The feeding experiment was done for 4 weeks. In another set mustard oil fed group was kept as control while the experimental group was fed evening primrose oil as a source of GLA blended with mustard oil at 2.5% level. The feeding experiment was carried out for 12 weeks. The other dietary components remained same for all the groups. After the scheduled feeding period, it was found that there was no significant change in weight gain, food intake and food efficiency ratio. It was found that dietary GLA resulted in significant decrease in serum triglyceride (TG) and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol and significant increase in high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol in serum in the experimental group. In liver total cholesterol (TC) is significantly higher and in heart and liver TG is significantly lower in GLA fed group.  相似文献

For four weeks, groups of eight male and eight female F344/N rats were fed diets containing 15.5, 20, 30 or 40% of energy (en%) as fat. The fat was composed of corn oil and beef tallow with 9 en% from linoleate in all diets. Females had greater mean hepatic α-tocopherol levels, whereas males had greater plasma α-tocopherol and cholesterol concentrations. In males, the plasma ratio of α-tocopherol/cholesterol was significantly greater than in females (P<0.05). Plasma α-tocopherol increased with increasing en% fat (r=0.51,P<0.001) in both sexes, but dietary fat did not alter hepatic α-tocopherol levels. These results suggest that plasma α-tocopherol may serve as a biomarker of total dietary fat intake and that in F344/N rats gender differences affect α-tocopherol and cholesterol status.  相似文献

Young adult female rats were fed diets containing 2% of calories from corn oil plus 20, 40, 60 or 80% of calories as beef tallow or diets containing 2% corn oil and the calorie allowance restricted to 80, 60, 40 or 20% of ad libitum consumption. Incorporation of C14-acetate into cholesterol and total fat was determined as an indication of rate of synthesis. As dietary fat was increased there was a linear increase in cholesterol radioactivity, as measured in serum, liver and carcass. As calories were decreased there were small but significant increases in cholesterol radioactivity. There was a highly significant decrease in incorporation of acetate into total fat as dietary fat increased, and a decrease in total fat radioactivity when calorie intake was restricted. The differences in rate of cholesterol biosynthesis were not accompanied by differences in total quantity of cholesterol. The conclusion reached was that utilization of fat for energy results in accelerated cholesterol biosynthesis. We examined the minimal effective dose on serum cholesterol concentration and the safety of dressing containing plant sterol in humans. EXP.1: Sixty-eight healthy Japanese males (total cholesterol (TC) > or = 170 mg/dL) were randomly divided into four groups, and were given 0, 400, 800 or 1200 mg/day of plant sterol in 15 g dressing for 4 weeks followed by the washout period of 4 weeks. Although there were no significant differences in serum TC and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentrations among all groups after feeding plant sterol for 4 weeks, in 36 subjects with TC > or = 220 mg/dL, serum LDL-C concentration tended to reduce when received 800 or 1200 mg of plant sterol, and the difference between 0 and 1200 mg groups was statistically significant. The difference between 0 and 800 mg groups was near significant (p=0.053). Intake of 400 mg of plant sterol did not change serum LDL-C concentration. EXP.2: Twenty-one healthy Japanese subjects (TC > or = 180 mg/dL, 10 men, 11 women) were given 2400 mg/day of plant sterol in 45 g dressing for 4 weeks. Clinical data were all remained normal. These results indicated that minimal effective dose of the plant sterol on serum cholesterol concentration in healthy male subjects is around 800 mg/day, and intake of 2400 mg/day of plant sterol is regarded to be safe.  相似文献

Background

The association between milk and dairy intake and the incidence of cardiometabolic diseases, cancer and mortality has been evaluated in many studies, but these studies have had conflicting results with no clear conclusion on causal or confounding associations. The present study aims to further address this association by cross-sectional and longitudinal evaluation of the associations between exposure to various types of dairy products and metabolic risk markers among inhabitants in northern Sweden while taking other lifestyle factors into account.

Methods

Respondents in the Västerbotten Intervention Programme with complete and plausible diet data between 1991 and 2016 were included, yielding 124,934 observations from 90,512 unique subjects. For longitudinal analysis, 27,682 participants with a visit 8–12?years after the first visit were identified. All participants completed a validated Food Frequency Questionnaire. Metabolic risk markers, including body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, serum (S) cholesterol and triglycerides, and blood glucose, were measured. Participants were categorized into quintiles by intake of dairy products, and risk (odds ratios, OR) of undesirable levels of metabolic risk markers was assessed in multivariable logistic regression analyses. In longitudinal analyses, intake quintiles were related to desirable levels of metabolic risk markers at both visits or deterioration at follow-up using Cox regression analyses.

Results

The OR of being classified with an undesirable BMI decreased with increasing quintiles of total dairy, cheese and butter intake but increased with increasing non-fermented milk intake. The OR of being classified with an undesirable S-cholesterol level increased with increasing intake of total dairy, butter and high fat (3%) non-fermented milk, whereas an undesirable S-triglyceride level was inversely associated with cheese and butter intake in women. In longitudinal analyses, increasing butter intake was associated with deterioration of S-cholesterol and blood glucose levels, whereas increasing cheese intake was associated with a lower risk of deterioration of S-triglycerides.

Conclusions

Confounding factors likely contribute to the demonstrated association between dairy intake and mortality, and other medical conditions and analyses should be stratified by dairy type.

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: An association between fluid intake and limb swelling has been described for 100-km ultra-marathoners. We investigated a potential development of peripheral oedemata in Ironman triathletes competing over 3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.2 km running. METHODS: In 15 male Ironman triathletes, fluid intake, changes in body mass, fat mass, skeletal muscle mass, limb volumes and skinfold thickness were measured. Changes in renal function, parameters of skeletal muscle damage, hematologic parameters and osmolality in both serum and urine were determined. Skinfold thicknesses at hands and feet were measured using LIPOMETER(R) and changes of limb volumes were measured using plethysmography. RESULTS: The athletes consumed a total of 8.6 +/- 4.4 L of fluids, equal to 0.79 +/- 0.43 L/h. Body mass, skeletal muscle mass and the volume of the lower leg decreased (p <0.05), fat mass, skinfold thicknesses and the volume of the arm remained unchanged (p >0.05). The decrease in skeletal muscle mass was associated with the decrease in body mass (p >0.05). The decrease in the lower leg volume was unrelated to fluid intake (p >0.05). Haemoglobin, haematocrit and serum sodium remained unchanged (p >0.05). Osmolality in serum and urine increased (p <0.05). The change in body mass was related to post-race serum sodium concentration ([Na+]) (r = -0.52, p <0.05) and post-race serum osmolality (r = -0.60, p <0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In these Ironman triathletes, ad libitum fluid intake maintained plasma [Na+] and plasma osmolality and led to no peripheral oedemata. The volume of the lower leg decreased and the decrease was unrelated to fluid intake. Future studies may investigate ultra-triathletes competing in a Triple Iron triathlon over 11.4 km swimming, 540 km cycling and 126.6 km running to find an association between fluid intake and the development of peripheral oedemata.  相似文献

Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) are believed to influence body composition, blood lipids and certain endocrine parameters in animals and humans. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a six months dietary supplementation of 7 g CLA‐oil (containing 54% CLA) daily in two groups of male and female resistance‐trained athletes who were at a different training stage. The volunteers were matched according to their previous training: 7 beginners (3♀/4♂) and 7 advanced athletes (2♀/5♂). During the intervention period they performed a standardized training routine three times per week. Blood samples were taken and body mass index, body composition (bioelectrical impedance assessment) and nutrient intake (7‐day food record) were recorded at baseline as well as during and following dietary supplementation Results: Serum lipid concentrations, serum leptin, soluble leptin receptor and IGF‐I levels or body composition were similar in the two categories of athletes after CLA supplementation. However, despite a higher energy intake, a significant reduction of body fat (P <0.05) was observed and both groups tended to increase their body cell mass (not significant). Total body water increased in the novice athletes (P <0.05). Furthermore, total cholesterol (P = 0.049) increased over baseline levels in the novice athletes. These levels remained within the physiological range. In all athletes there was a significant correlation between percentage body fat and leptin (baseline: r2 = 0.46, P = 0.01, CLA: r2 = 0.49, P = 0.011), as well as between fat mass and serum leptin levels (baseline: r2 = 0.35, P = 0.033, CLA: r2 = 0.60, P = 0.002). Conclusions: Over a period of six months no differences were observed in the effects of a commercial CLA‐triacylglyceride (54% CLA, 7g/d) on selected endocrine parameters, blood lipids, food intake and body composition between advanced and novice resistance‐trained athletes who take part in a regular training program.  相似文献

Results from several studies have suggested that vitamin E intake could inhibit the progression of atherosclerotic lesions. Therefore, this study was designed to evaluate Costa Rican adolescents' serum alpha-tocopherol levels and their correlation with Body Mass Index (BMI) and the dietary intake of vitamin E and saturated and polyunsaturated fat. Ninety-five healthy, non-smoking adolescents and non-vitamin supplement users (aged 13-18) from urban and rural areas in San José, Costa Rica, were included in this study. Serum levels of lipid adjusted alpha-tocopherol were significantly higher in rural adolescents compared with urban youngsters (4.192 mumol/mmol +/- 0.831 and 3.486 mumol/mmol +/- 0.996, respectively). Likewise, reported mean daily 1000 kcal adjusted-vitamin E intake was higher in rural adolescents than in urban youngsters (9.2 +/- 3.7 mg. 16.0 +/- 8.7 mg). An important correlation was observed between intake of energy from saturated fat and adjusted-alpha-tocopherol serum levels (r = 0.430). Contrariwise, they correlated poorly with dietary alpha-tocopherol (r = 0.273), suggesting that serum is not a good biomarket of intake for alpha-tocopherol. Additionally, our results showed a negative relationship between BMI and adjusted-serum vitamin E levels (beta = 0.189; CI 95% -0.153, -0.013). The analysis of vitamin E intake showed that over 25% of adolescents have inadequate intake of the nutrient. This study suggests that nutritionists and pediatricians should encourage alpha-tocopherol intake and monitor the food sources of the nutrient and the adolescents' body weight as part of the strategies aimed at developing a healthy lifestyle.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to verify the effect of a daily intake of a new fermented soy milk produced with Enterococcus faecium and Lactobacillus jugurti on the serum lipid levels in normocholesterolemic middle-aged men. The study was randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled and was performed for a period of 6 weeks. Forty-four normocholesterolemic healthy, male volunteers, aged 40-55 years old were randomly separated in two groups: The F-group received 200 ml of the fermented product daily and the P-group received 200 ml of placebo (chemically fermented). The blood samples were drawn initially and after 3 and 6 weeks and serum values for total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride were determined. The LDL-cholesterol value was estimated. No significant changes in the fermented group (F) were observed for total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol or triglyceride levels, while the HDL-cholesterol level was significantly higher (p < or = 0.05) after 6 weeks. The total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels were significantly higher (p < or = 0.05) in the placebo group (P), but no changes were found for the HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride levels during the experimental period. In conclusion, the intake of 200 ml/day of the fermented soy milk, produced with E. faecium and L. jugurti, for 6 weeks, did not affect the serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, and led an increase of 10% in the HDL-cholesterol level.  相似文献

The modulating effect of energy and exogenous triglyceride supply on serum lipids and fatty acid composition of liver, tibialis anterior muscle, subcutaneous and peri-epididymal fat was assessed in rats using Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN). Nutrients were infused continuously for 10 days through a central vein catheter. Four levels of fat were tested: No fat, Low fat (6% non-protein calories), Medium fat (30%) and High fat (60%), at 2 energy levels (270 kcal and 350 kcal/kg·day). An isonitrogenous supply was given to all groups as 0.9 g N/kg·day. At the highest level of fat intake (20.4 g/kg) at the high energy level triglycerides, cholesterol and phospholipids of serum were elevated. Biochemical signs of essential fatty acid (EFA) deficiency were observed as rising levels of eicosatrienoic acid and lowered concentrations of linoleic and arachidonic acid, mostly in the liver and the muscle in the No fat groups. EFA levels were reduced significantly in the No fat and Low fat groups and more pronounced at the high energy level. In conclusion, our study suggests that when energy intake is increased the EFA status becomes more critical. It seems evident that more EFA is required in absolute values when hypercaloric diets are given.  相似文献

This study pursued to evaluate the adequacy of the dietary intake of students graduating from Basic Education in the Metropolitan Area of Santiago, Chile. A random sample of 258 students from public and non-public schools (1:1), of both sexes (1:1) and from high, medium and low socioeconomic level (SEL) (1:1:1), was selected. Standard procedures for 24-hr dietary recall individual interviews were used to collect data. The students' dietary intake was then compared with the FAO/WHO 1973 Recommended Dietary Allowances. Results revealed that 53.5% and 62.0% of the sample registered a deficient and excessive intake for energy and protein, respectively. Protein contributed 13.2% of the dietary energy, fat, 27.1%, and carbohydrates, 59.8%. Animal and vegetable protein intake was found in the proportion of 1:1. As findings indicated, the dietary intake of students differed significantly according to SEL. Deficiencies in energy, vitamin A, riboflavin, niacin and calcium intake were observed, in both sexes, besides iron deficiency in the female group. It is considered that results could be useful for food and nutrition planning in school feeding programs.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine in adolescents the relationship between insulin levels and body mass index (BMI), body fat distribution, diet, life style and lipid profile. We studied 167 adolescents (68 boys and 99 girls) whose ages ranged from 14 to 17 years. A detailed medical (including pubertal stage) and nutritional record was obtained from each subject. Biochemical measurements included fasting serum insulin, glucose, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (Tg), HDL-C, LDL-C and VLDL-C. HOMA insulin resistance (IR) and HOMA beta-cell function (beta-cell) were calculated. Insulin levels were over 84 pmol/L (cut off normal value in our lab) in 56% of the boys and 43% of the girls. Thirty-seven percent of lean adolescents whose BMI was 21.5 +/- 1.9 kg/m2 presented higher fasting insulin levels. HOMA IR, Tg, systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) values when compared to a lean normoinsulinemic group. Insulin levels were correlated (p < 0.01) with body mass index. Both boys and girls in the highest BMI quartile (BMI > 24 kg/m2) had significantly higher serum insulin, HOMA beta-cell, and Tg levels, and the lowest HDL-C levels. A high-energy intake rich in saturated fat and low physical activity were found in this lean but metabolically altered adolescents. We conclude that even with a BMI as low as 21 kg/m2 an inappropriate diet and low physical activity might be responsible for the high insulin levels and dislipidemias in adolescents.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to correlate the fatty acids characteristic of dairy fat (14:0, 14:1, 15:0, 17:0 and 17:1) in adipose tissue, serum lipid fractions and the estimated intake of dairy fat, and to investigate whether they can be used as biomarkers for dairy fat/product intake. The highest correlations were observed between 14:0 in adipose tissue and the estimated intakes of 14:0 (r = 0.60) and dairy fat (r = 0.50), and between 15:0 in adipose tissue and the estimated intakes of 15:0 (r = 0.55) and dairy fat (r = 0.55). Among the fatty acids in serum lipid fractions, 15:0 in cholesteryl esters (CE) and triacylglycerols showed the highest correlation to both 15:0 in adipose tissue, intakes of 15:0, dairy fat and dairy products. The results from our study suggest that the contents of fatty acids characteristic of dairy fat (14:0, 14:1, 15:0, 17:0, 17:1) in adipose tissue might be used as markers not only for the intake of dairy fat, but also of dairy products (times/day). When adipose tissue specimens are not available, 15:0 in serum CE appears to be the best marker for dairy fat intake. It was also observed that fatty acids from dairy fat are incorporated differently into serum lipid fractions and adipose tissue.  相似文献

Rats were fed cholesterol-free or cholesterol-enriched diets containing olive oil or partially hydrogenated corn oil at the 10% level for ca. 30 days (c-18∶1, 77.0% in the former diet andc-18∶1, 24.7% andt-18∶1, 42.5% in the latter). The linoleic acid content of these fat diets was made equivalent (1.7 energy%). After feeding cholesterol-free diets, trans fat compared tocis fat showed(a) no untoward effects on growth parameters, (b) a reduction of serum cholesterol levels without influencing concentrations of serum apolipoproteins A-I, B and E, (c) no effects on the bile flow and the concentration of biliary cholesterol and bile acids, (d) an increasing trend of fecal excretion of neutral and acidic steroids, both in terms of mg/day and mg/g feces, and (e) rather equivocal change in the composition of fecal, but not biliary steroids. Similar response patterns were also observed when cholesterol-enriched diets were fed except for a decrease in serum apo B and an ineffectiveness to increase fecal acidic steroids. Together with the results obtained from experiments simultaneously performed with safflower oil and completely hydrogenated corn oil, it seems that the steroid metabolism can be specificallymodified by the geometry of dietary fats.  相似文献

Leptin is closely related to obesity and its complications. In order to determine serum levels of this hormone in children and adolescents, and its associations to age, gender, socioeconomic status, nutritional anthropometrical status and dietary intake, 166 children and adolescents (91 normal and 75 obese, aged 2 to 15 years), from low socioeconomic status were assessed. A socioeconomic evaluation (Grafffar-Mendez C method), dietary intake (24 hour recalls), anthropometrical assessment and leptin by ELISA were performed. Normal or eutrophic was defined as weight for height (W/H) or Body mass index (BMI) and fatty area between 10th and 90th percentile. Obesity when indicators were over 90th percentile. Leptin was significantly higher in obese than in normal, without differences by gender or age. Leptin percentile distribution showed 11.53 microg/L and 24.29 microg/L as 90th percentile for normal and obese children, respectively. There was a tendency to inverse correlation among leptin, fat dietary intake and waist-thigh ratio. Excessive fat intake was associated to lower serum leptin. Results suggest that obese children had leptin resistance, independently of age and gender. It is recommended to develop nutritional education programs regarding obesity and dietary intake in order to prevent and control infantile obesity.  相似文献
