Efficient transparent organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) with improved stability based on conductive, transparent poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) electrodes are reported. Based on optical simulations, the device structures are carefully optimized by tuning the thickness of doped transport layers and electrodes. As a result, the performance of PEDOT:PSS‐based OLEDs reaches that of indium tin oxide (ITO)‐based reference devices. The efficiency and the long‐term stability of PEDOT:PSS‐based OLEDs are significantly improved. The structure engineering demonstrated in this study greatly enhances the overall performances of ITO‐free transparent OLEDs in terms of efficiency, lifetime, and transmittance. These results indicate that PEDOT:PSS‐based OLEDs have a promising future for practical applications in low‐cost and flexible device manufacturing.  相似文献

MXenes (Ti3C2) are 2D transition‐metal carbides and carbonitrides with high conductivity and optical transparency. However, transparent MXene electrodes suitable for polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) have rarely been demonstrated. With the discovery of the excellent electrical stability of MXene under an alternating current (AC), herein, PLEDs that employ MXene electrodes and exhibit high performance under AC operation (AC MXene PLEDs) are presented. The PLED exhibits a turn‐on voltage, current efficiency, and brightness of 2.1 V, 7 cd A?1, and 12 547 cd m?2, respectively, when operated under AC with a frequency of 1 kHz. The results indicate that the undesirable electric breakdown associated with heat arising from the poor interface of the MXene with a hole transport layer in the direct‐current mode is efficiently suppressed by the transient injection of carriers accompanied by the alternating change of the electric polarity under the AC, giving rise to reliable light emission with a high efficiency. The solution‐processable MXene electrode can be readily fabricated on a flexible polymer substrate, allowing for the development of a mechanically flexible AC MXene PLED with a higher performance than flexible PLEDs employing solution‐processed nanomaterial‐based electrodes such as carbon nanotubes, reduced graphene oxide, and Ag nanowires.  相似文献

In response to the call for a physiologically‐friendly light at night that shows low color temperature, a candle light‐style organic light emitting diode (OLED) is developed with a color temperature as low as 1900 K, a color rendering index (CRI) as high as 93, and an efficacy at least two times that of incandescent bulbs. In addition, the device has a 80% resemblance in luminance spectrum to that of a candle. Most importantly, the sensationally warm candle light‐style emission is driven by electricity in lieu of the energy‐wasting and greenhouse gas emitting hydrocarbon‐burning candles invented 5000 years ago. This candle light‐style OLED may serve as a safe measure for illumination at night. Moreover, it has a high color rendering index with a decent efficiency.  相似文献

Orange‐emitting phosphorescent copolymers containing iridium complexes and bis(carbazolyl)fluorene groups in their side chains are employed as the emissive layer in multilayer organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). The efficiency of the OLED devices is optimized by varying characteristics of the copolymers: the molecular weight, the iridium loading level, and the nature and length of the linker between the side chains and the polymer backbone. A maximum efficiency of 4.9 ± 0.4%, 8.8 ± 0.7 cd A−1 at 100 cd m−2 is achieved with an optimized copolymer.  相似文献

Here, a new series of crosslinkable heteroleptic iridium (III) complexes for use in solution processed phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) is reported. These iridium compounds have the general formula of (PPZ‐VB)2Ir(CˆN), where PPZ‐VB is phenylpyrazole (PPZ) vinyl benzyl (VB) ether; and the CˆN ligands represent a family of four different cyclometallating ligands including 1‐phenylpyrazolyl (PPZ) (1), 2‐(4,6‐difluorophenyl)pyridyl (DFPPY) (2), 2‐(p‐tolyl)pyridyl (TPY) (3), and 2‐phenylquinolyl (PQ) (4). With the incorporation of two crosslinkable VB ether groups, these compounds can be fully crosslinked after heating at 180 °C for 30 min. The crosslinked films exhibit excellent solvent resistance and film smoothness which enables fabrication of high‐performance multilayer OLEDs by sequential solution processing of multiple layers. Furthermore, the photophysical properties of these compounds can be easily controlled by simply changing the cyclometallating CˆN ligand in order to tune the triplet energy within the range of 3.0–2.2 eV. This diversity makes these materials not only suitable for use in hole transporting and electron blocking but also as emissive layers of several colors. Therefore, these compounds are applied as effective materials for all‐solution processed OLEDs with (PPZ‐VB)2IrPPZ (1) acting as hole transporting and electron blocking layer and host material, as well as three other compounds, (PPZ‐VB)2IrDFPPY ( 2 ), (PPZ‐VB)2IrTPY(3), and (PPZ‐VB)2IrPQ( 4 ), used as crosslinkable phosphorescent emitters.  相似文献

A novel, highly efficient hole injection material based on a conducting polymer polythienothiophene (PTT) doped with poly(perfluoroethylene‐perfluoroethersulfonic acid) (PFFSA) in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) is demonstrated. Both current–voltage and dark‐injection‐current transient data of hole‐only devices demonstrate high hole‐injection efficiency employing PTT:PFFSA polymers with different organic charge‐transporting materials used in fluorescent and phosphorescent organic light‐emitting diodes. It is further demonstrated that PTT:PFFSA polymer formulations applied as the hole injection layer (HIL) in OLEDs reduce operating voltages and increase brightness significantly. Hole injection from PTT:PFFSA is found to be much more efficient than from typical small molecule HILs such as copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) or polymer HILs such as polyethylene dioxythiophene: polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT‐PSS). OLED devices employing PTT:PFFSA polymer also demonstrate significantly longer lifetime and more stable operating voltages compared to devices using CuPc.  相似文献

Highly power‐efficient white organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) are still challenging to make for applications in high‐quality displays and general lighting due to optical confinement and energy loss during electron‐photon conversion. Here, an efficient white OLED structure is shown that combines deterministic aperiodic nanostructures for broadband quasi‐omnidirectional light extraction and a multilayer energy cascade structure for energy‐efficient photon generation. The external quantum efficiency and power efficiency are raised to 54.6% and 123.4 lm W?1 at 1000 cd m?2. An extremely small roll‐off in efficiency at high luminance is also obtained, yielding a striking value of 106.5 lm W?1 at 5000 cd m?2. In addition to a substantial increase in efficiency, this device structure simultaneously offers the superiority of angular color stability over the visible wavelength range compared to conventional OLEDs. It is anticipated that these findings could open up new opportunities to promote white OLEDs for commercial applications.  相似文献

White organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs) are currently under intensive research and development worldwide as a new generation light source to replace problematic incandescent bulbs and fluorescent tubes. One of the major challenges facing WOLEDs has been to achieve high energy efficiency and high color rendering index simultaneously to make the technology competitive against other alternative technologies such as inorganic LEDs. Here, an all‐phosphor, four‐color WOLEDs is presented, employing a novel device design principle utilizing molecular energy transfer or, specifically, triplet exciton conversion within common organic layers in a cascaded emissive zone configuration to achieve exceptional performance: an 24.5% external quantum efficiency (EQE) at 1000 cd/m2 with a color rendering index (CRI) of 81, and an EQE at 5000 cd/m2 of 20.4% with a CRI of 85, using standard phosphors. The EQEs achieved are the highest reported to date among WOLEDs of single or multiple emitters possessing such high CRI, which represents a significant step towards the realization of WOLEDs in solid‐state lighting.  相似文献

Improving the lifetime and the operational and thermal stability of organic thin‐film materials while maintaining high conductivity and mechanical flexibility is critical for flexible electronics applications. Here, it is reported that highly conductive and environmentally stable organic transparent electrodes (TEs) can be fabricated by mechanically laminating poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) films containing dimethylsulfoxide and Zonyl fluorosurfactant (PDZ films) with a monolayer graphene barrier. The proposed lamination process allows graphene to be coated onto the PDZ films uniformly and conformally with tight interfacial binding, free of wrinkles and air gaps. The laminated films exhibit an outstanding room‐temperature hole mobility of ≈85.1 cm2 V?1 s?1 since the graphene can serve as an effective bypass for charge carriers. The significantly improved stability of the graphene‐laminated TEs against high mechanical/thermal stress, humidity, and ultraviolet irradiation is particularly promising. Furthermore, the incorporation of the graphene barrier increases the expected lifetime of the TEs by more than two orders of magnitude.  相似文献

Based on the results of first‐principles calculations of the electronic properties of blue light‐emitting materials, the molecular structures of oligofluorenes are optimized by incorporating electron‐withdrawing groups into the molecules to balance hole and electron injection and transport for organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). The result is a remarkable improvement in the maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the undoped device from 2.0% to 4.99%. Further optimization of the device configurations and processing procedures, e.g., by changing the thickness of the emitting layer and through thermal annealing treatments, leads to a very high maximum EQE of 7.40% for the undoped sky‐blue device. Finally, by doping the emitter in a suitable host material, 4,4’‐bis(carbazol‐9‐yl)biphenyl (CBP), at the optimal concentration of 6%, pure blue emission with extremely high maximum EQE of 9.40% and Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.147, 0.139) is achieved.  相似文献

The relatively high sheet resistance of graphene compared with indium tin oxide (ITO) blocks the applications of graphene as transparent electrodes in organic light‐emitting diodes. A novel copper (Cu)/graphene composite electrode is presented and employed as the anode of a top‐emission organic light‐emitting diode with the structure of Cu/graphene/V2O5/NPB/Alq3/Alq3: C545T/Bphen: Cs2CO3/Sm/Au. The Cu/graphene composite electrodes are fabricated by growing graphene directly on Cu substrates via the chemical vapor deposition method without any transfer process. The maxima of current efficiency and power efficiency of a typical Cu/graphene composite anode device reach 6.1 cd/A and 7.6 lm/W, respectively, which are markedly higher than those of the control devices with a graphene anode, a Cu anode or an ITO anode. The low sheet resistance of the composite electrode, the high quality of graphene without any transfer process and the avoidance of wave guiding loss in glass or polyethylene terephthalate substrates result in the improvements of light emission efficiencies.  相似文献

A new series of blue‐light‐emitting fluorene derivatives have been synthesized and characterized. The fluorene derivatives have high fluorescence yields, good thermal stability, and high glass‐transition temperatures in the range 145–193 °C. Organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) fabricated using the fluorene derivatives as the host emitter show high efficiency (up to 5.3 cd A–1 and 3.0 lm W–1) and bright blue‐light emission (Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of x = 0.16, y = 0.22). The performance of the non‐doped fluorene‐based devices is among the best fluorescent blue‐light‐emitting OLEDs. The good performance of the present blue OLEDs is considered to derive from: 1) appropriate energy levels of the fluorene derivatives for good carrier injection; 2) good carrier‐transporting properties; and 3) high fluorescence efficiency of the fluorene derivatives. These merits are discussed in terms of the molecular structures.  相似文献

For most applications of displays based on organic light‐emitting diodes (LEDs), it is desirable to have good daylight contrast in combination with a high intensity of emitted light. The conventional approaches to enhance the daylight contrast, using a black cathode or circular polarizers, result in a significant loss of light emitted by the LED. A rather novel approach to enhance daylight contrast while keeping loss of emitted light to a minimum is the introduction of a chiral‐nematic film in the device. This approach leads to an increase in light efficiency by a factor of 1.8 (with respect to circular polarizers) with some loss in daylight contrast values within the reflection band of the chiral‐nematic film. Outside the reflection band, however, the contrast approaches infinity.  相似文献

Switching and control of efficient red, green, and blue active matrix organic light‐emitting devices (AMOLEDs) by printed organic thin‐film electrochemical transistors (OETs) are demonstrated. These all‐organic pixels are characterized by high luminance at low operating voltages and by extremely small transistor dimensions with respect to the OLED active area. A maximum brightness of ≈900 cd m?2 is achieved at diode supply voltages near 4 V and pixel selector (gate) voltages below 1 V. The ratio of OLED to OET area is greater than 100:1 and the pixels may be switched at rates up to 100 Hz. Essential to this demonstration are the use of a high capacitance electrolyte as the gate dielectric layer in the OETs, which affords extremely large transistor transconductances, and novel graded emissive layer (G‐EML) OLED architectures that exhibit low turn‐on voltages and high luminescence efficiency. Collectively, these results suggest that printed OETs, combined with efficient, low voltage OLEDs, could be employed in the fabrication of flexible full‐color AMOLED displays.  相似文献

White organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) are highly efficient large‐area light sources that may play an important role in solving the global energy crisis, while also opening novel design possibilities in general lighting applications. Usually, highly efficient white OLEDs are designed by combining three phosphorescent emitters for the colors blue, green, and red. However, this procedure is not ideal as it is difficult to find sufficiently stable blue phosphorescent emitters. Here, a novel approach to meet the demanding power efficiency and device stability requirements is discussed: a triplet harvesting concept for hybrid white OLED, which combines a blue fluorophor with red and green phosphors and is capable of reaching an internal quantum efficiency of 100% if a suitable blue emitter with high‐lying triplet transition is used is introduced. Additionally, this concept paves the way towards an extremely simple white OLED design, using only a single emitter layer.  相似文献

Intermolecular interactions play a crucial role in the performance of organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). Here we report the photophysical and electroluminescence properties of a fac‐tris(2‐phenylpyridyl)iridium(III ) cored dendrimer in which highly branched biphenyl dendrons are used to control the intermolecular interactions. The presence of fluorene surface groups improves the solubility and enhances the efficiency of photoluminescence, especially in the solid state. The emission peak of the dendrimer is around 530 nm with a PL quantum yield of 76 % in solution and 25 % in a film. The photophysical properties of this dendrimer are compared with a similar dendrimer with the same structure but without the fluorene surface groups. Dendrimer LEDs (DLEDs) are prepared using each dendrimer as a phosphorescent emitter blended in a 4,4′‐bis(N‐carbazolyl)biphenyl host. Device performance is improved significantly by the incorporation of an electron‐transporting layer of 1,3,5‐tris(2‐N‐phenylbenzimidazolyl)benzene. A peak external quantum efficiency of 10 % (38 Cd A–1) for the dendrimer without surface groups and 13 % (49.8 Cd A–1) for the dendrimer with fluorene surface groups is achieved in the bilayer LEDs.  相似文献
