The address and drive circuit requirements of dc gas discharge display panels are described with particular reference to devices developed by Weston and Hall [1]-[3] and de Boer [6.] Drive systems are being developed for displays both with and without inherent memory. The choice of system available is dependent both on the type of information to be displayed and the characteristics of the discharge cells. In this paper the influence of factors such as ignition, maintaining and extinguishing potentials and spreads, ignition delay time and deionization or "recovery" time is discussed in relation to cyclically driven and storing displays and for various types of data. Two systems of particular interest are a tabular alphanumeric data display and a random-address graphics display. An experimental tabular display has been constructed in the laboratory and is briefly described. This is designed ultimately to present 800 characters simultaneously, but at present uses a composite matrix of 48 rows and 50 columns to show up to 48 characters for test purposes. Random-address drive systems for use with panels having internal resistors are also discussed. It is shown how, in both systems, a careful choice of bias and pulse switching conditions makes optimum use of the gas discharge characteristics.  相似文献

The dc gas-discharge display panel introduced combines internal memory characteristics with the positive column discharge, yielding high luminance and efficiency. The nature of the memory function is based on shifts in the discharge path between display and auxiliary discharge spaces. Because of this operating principle, the panel has a switching time as fast as 10 µs, enabling use of the panel for real-time color TV displays with 64 gray levels.  相似文献

A new gas discharge device for electrostatic printing is described, which is flat in shape, simple in structure, and has inherent scanning capability. As a glow discharge is sequentially transferred in the device, voltage pulses are generated from the discharge spaces and fed to recording styluses one after another. These voltage pulses are applied to the dielectric coating of the electrostatic recording paper and form latent electrostatic images on the dielectric coating in response to recording signal voltages applied simultaneously to the back side of the paper. A facsimile receiver employing the device has satisfactorily recorded facsimile signals at a rate of 9000 picture elements per second.  相似文献

Tube assemblies of forsterite ceramic and titanium are outgassed and then sealed together with reactive alloys in an atmosphere of the noble gas with which they are to be filled. The gettering action of the hot titanium results in a very pure gas filling. Examples of gas tubes constructed by this new process include voltage regulators, voltage reference tubes, thyratrons, and spark gaps. This method of making ceramic-metal seals in an inert atmosphere may be applied to the production of ceramic-metal sub-assemblies and tube types that do not require gas filling or evacuation at the time of assembly. The fact that a vacuum system is not required to make these seals, and that the cooling time is shorted by convection currents, results in simplification of equipment and reduction of expense and should extend the usefulness of this type of ceramic-metal sealing.  相似文献

To realize a flat display panel for a high-definition TV (HDTV) receiver, the feasibility of a planar gas-discharge panel simply arranged with both the display and auxiliary cells on the same plane in the panel structure was studied. This would allow for a thick-film printing technique to be used for all fabrication processes. Using a pulse discharge driving scheme to provide internal memory, a monochrome current TV picture with 256 gray levels was reproduced on a small panel with 72 × 100 cells (horizontal cell pitch: 0.7 mm, vertical cell pitch: 0.5 mm).  相似文献

The first TV pictures have been achieved on a dc gas-discharge memory panel (green color, 50 × 50 cells, 1-mm pitch). A contrast ratio 90: 1 with continuous gray scale (128 levels) is reported. A time-averaged green area luminance of 360 fL at 0.74 lm/W and a power consumption of 0.53 W/cm2(15 µA/cell) are obtained. The discharge cell has a triode structure, in which a positive-resistance discharge containing a positive column is formed in the cathode-grid-anode space. This permits elimination of the current-limiting resistors. The UV radiation emitted by the Xe + He (47 percent) gas discharge is used to excite the phosphors.  相似文献

Reconfigurability of processor arrays is important due to two reasons (1) to efficiently execute different algorithms and (2) to isolate faulty processors. An array processor that is reconfigurable by the user any number of times to yield a different topology or to isolate faults is envisaged in this paper. The system has a host or controller that broadcasts a command to the interconnect to configure itself into a particular fashion. The interconnect uses static-RAM programming technology and can be programmed to different configurations by sending a different set of bits to the configuration random access memory (RAM) in the interconnect. We present three designs reconfigurable into array, ring, mesh, or Illiac mesh topologies. The first design provides no redundancy or fault tolerance. The second design is capable of graceful degradation by bypassing faulty elements. The third design is capable of graceful degradation by rerouting. The details of the interconnect and the configuration RAM contents for typical configurations are illustrated. It is seen that reconfigurable interconnect results in a highly reconfigurable or polymorphic computer  相似文献

A simple model for the components that make up a rapid thermal processing system is given. These components are the furnace, the pyrometer used to measure temperature, and the control system that utilizes the pyrometer measurement to control the power to the lamps. The models for each of the components are integrated in a numerical code to give a computer simulation of the complete furnace operation. The simulation can be used to investigate the interaction of the furnace, temperature-sensing technique, and the control system. Therefore, the interplay of heat transfer (furnace) properties, optical (pyrometer) parameters, and control gains can be studied. The objective is to define variability in wafer temperature as process parameters change. The following three applications of the model are included: (1) a simulation of open-loop operation; (2) a simulation of the ramp up and subsequent operation with a step change in wafer optical properties; and (3) a simulation of the rapid thermal chemical vapor deposition of polysilicon on silicon oxide which demonstrates the applicability model for actual processes. A newly designed dc plasma display panel (PDP) using a microbridge structure and hollow cathode has been proposed, and its characteristics have been measured. This new plasma display panel operates in an abnormal glow in the current range from 0-50 μA at 500 torr, with an effective internal resistance of 800 KΩ. This means that the internal resistance is high enough that a resistor-in-cell structure is not necessary any more for the dc PDP. The luminous efficiency of the hollow cathode discharge is at least five times as great as that of subnormal and normal glow discharges. The lifetime of the display panel is shown to be quite insensitive to gas pressure in the range of 400-1100 torr because the sputtered materials are trapped inside the hollow cathode  相似文献

Digit serial architectures, which have digit serial data transmission combined with digit serial computation, are uniquely suited for the design of VLSI signal processors. The speed disadvantages of digit serial input are overcome if the input is overlapped with the computation—what we refer to as digit pipelining. Digit pipelining allows us to break up long strings of combinatorial logic and, thus, to increase the clock rate of the system while still preserving much of the circuit structure. In general, for a modest increase in hardware (which in VLSI translates to a modest increase in area) digit serial architectures offer the potential of higher throughput than equivalent word parallel architectures. Several designs for various digit serial adders are presented. Then two filter examples are discussed that use the digit serial adders to achieve digit pipelining.  相似文献

A novel driver with discharge current compensation is proposed to drive an AC plasma display panel (PDP). This proposed circuit uses resonance between the inductor and the AC PDP to avoid abrupt charging/discharging. The four switches of the full bridge are all operated with zero-voltage-switching turn-on. In addition, an 8-in AC PDP equipped with the proposed driving circuit, operating at 100 kHz, is investigated. With the discharge current compensation, the experimental results show that the proposed driver can maintain the AC PDP to light at lower voltage (129 V)  相似文献

A new addressing method has been studied, making use of the internal memory obtained by operating with repetitive pulse discharges, applied to gas-discharge panels having a three-electrode positive-column structure. Using this method, color TV pictures with 64 gray levels and a contrast ratio of 42:1 have been produced on a panel with 59 × 50 cells, each color picture element consisting of four cells (two green cells, one red, and one blue). In operation a peak area luminance of 70 fL and a luminous efficacy of 0.35 lm/W were obtained with an average power consumption of 110 mW/cm2.  相似文献

General-purpose multicore processors are being accepted in all segments of the industry, including signal processing and embedded space, as the need for more performance and general-purpose programmability has grown. Parallel processing increases performance by adding more parallel resources while maintaining manageable power characteristics. The implementations of multicore processors are numerous and diverse. Designs range from conventional multiprocessor machines to designs that consist of a "sea" of programmable arithmetic logic units (ALUs). In this article, we cover some of the attributes common to all multicore processor implementations and illustrate these attributes with current and future commercial multicore designs. The characteristics we focus on are application domain, power/performance, processing elements, memory system, and accelerators/integrated peripherals.  相似文献

The regularity of the pulsed discharges in the plasma display panel is attributed to processes which automatically damp out perturbations from equilibrium conditions. With rectangular wave excitation, these processes are controlled by the dependence of wall voltage changes during a discharge on the cell voltage at the beginning of a discharge. Conditions for stability and instability are derived for both simple series, in which all discharges are identical, and for more complex series of recurrent discharge sequences, for which the discharges within a sequence need not be identical.  相似文献
