Abstract

The properties of states generated by the application of the two-mode squeeze operator to the pair coherent states are studied. These states are the two-mode analogues of the single-mode squeezed states generated by the application of the single-mode squeeze operator to an ordinary coherent state. In the present case there are correlations between the modes and strong non-classical properties are to be expected. We study the statistical properties of the photon number distributions, squeezing, violations of the Cauchy-Schwartz inequality, quasiprobability distributions and the phase distributions.  相似文献

Abstract

We introduce a new squeezed operator which is a combination of the two-mode squeezed operator and the two single photon squeezed operator. Here we study the effects of this operator on the photon number sum and difference. The squeezing in the frequency converter model has been examined, and statistical investigations are carried out for the quasi-probability distribution functions (Wigner function and Q-function). Abstract

The nonclassical photon statistics of one-mode and two-mode combination squeezed states introduced recently by Fan, which have less fluctuation in one quadrature phase than the usual two-mode squeezed states, is discussed. It is found that increasing the degree of two-mode squeezing cannot always increase the photon antibunching depth of these generalized two-mode squeezed states.  相似文献

Abstract

We examine the non-classical properties of two-mode coherent states based on different unitary irreducible representations of SU(1, 1). Such states are generated by the action of the two-mode squeezing operator on initial states of the field containing arbitrary numbers of photons in each of the two modes. If the initial state of the field is a two-mode vacuum state, the final state is of course the two-mode squeezed vacuum. An initial occupation generalizes the idea of a squeezed vacuum to the SU(1, 1) coherent states. We show that fields in such states have remarkable quantum properties such as sub-Poissonian statistics, violations of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, strong correlations in the photon number fluctuations and squeezing. Using information theory formalism, we show that these coherent states are less correlated than the usual two-mode squeezed vacuum. Moreover, we show that an initial coherent amplitude contribution, in a large amplitude limit, can result in the reduction of correlations between modes.  相似文献

Abstract

We discuss the connection between quantum correlations and squeezing in simple quantum optical systems. We illustrate this connection by a study of two-mode states of light produced by parametric down-conversion and similar two-photon processes. The intermode correlations in these systems are shown to be responsible for modifications in photon-number sum and difference operators, and for squeezing in the superpositions of the two modes. The disappearance of the diagonal coherent-state quasiprobability function P(α) when non-classical light properties are important is noted, and alternative and better-behaved Wigner functions and coherent-state expectation Q-functions for the two-mode system are developed.  相似文献

Abstract

The effect of thermal noise is studied on the statistical behaviour of the superposition of squeezed and displaced number states. In our analysis we have employed the s-parametrized characteristic function. For such superposition states exact expressions for quasiprobability distribution functions, normalized second-order correlation function, photon-number distribution and phase space distribution are obtained and discussed in detail.  相似文献

Abstract

In the present work we study the effects of squeezing on coherent states, number states, and on the thermal field states related to the time evolution operator, which is the result of the Hamiltonian describing the simultaneous non-degenerate parametric amplifier with mixing of two modes a and b via a rotation of their polarization. By using the Glauber second-order correlation function we examined the statistical properties of these various squeezed states. The quasi-probabilities of the W Wigner and Q functions are calculated. The Glauber P representation for the squeezed thermal state explicitly shows the limit of its applicability.  相似文献

Abstract

Two-mode squeezed Gaussons are non-classical states of light which are intermediate between single-mode and two-mode squeezed states. They may be prepared by coherently mixing two single-mode squeezed states at a beam-splitter or via a frequency converter. When equally squeezed single-mode squeezed states are incident on a 50/50 beam-splitter the output will range between a two-mode squeezed state and two single-mode squeezed states as the phase of the input squeezed light is varied. This behaviour is reflected when the properties of such states are investigated.  相似文献

Abstract

We show how one can prepare three-qubit entangled states like W-states, Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states as well as two-qutrit entangled states using the multi-atom two-mode entanglement. We propose a technique of preparing such a multi-particle entanglement using stimulated Raman adiabatic passage. We consider a collection of three-level atoms in Λ configuration simultaneously interacting with a resonant two-mode cavity for this purpose. Our approach permits a variety of multi-particle extensions.  相似文献

Abstract

Any future quantum information machine will contain unitary operators and entangled particle states. The Hilbert space describing the action of the quantum information machine separates into a bosonic and a fermionic sector. Because the bosonic sector is of higher dimension, it is always possible to encode more information into a multiboson state than into a multifermion state, given the same complexity, that is unitary representation, of the quantum information machine. This is explicitly studied for the case of two particles defined in two modes. There the beam splitter is a generic representation of any U(2) matrix, and it has recently been shown that one can realize any N-dimensional unitary operator by successive application of such two-dimensional operators. The two-boson two-mode Hilbert space is of dimension three, and thus one can encode log23 = 1·57 bits of information into such an entangled state. Finally, some explicit schemes for creating and detecting the three possible, two-photon, two-mode states spanning the bosonic Bell basis are given.  相似文献

We present a scheme to create quantum entanglement between multi-atom Dicke states and two cavity modes by passing N three-level atoms in Λ configuration through a resonant two-mode cavity one by one. We further show that such a scheme can be used to generate arbitrary two-mode N-photon entangled states, arbitrary superposition of Dicke states, and a maximal entangled state of Dicke states. These states may find applications in the demonstration of quantum non-locality, high-precision spectroscopy and quantum information processing.  相似文献

Abstract

The idea of counter-intuitive transfer is taken over from atomic systems to a two-mode Jaynes-Cummings model with degenerate mode frequencies. We show that an arbitrary photon state can be transferred between the two modes utilizing a suitable pulse sequence. The method is illustrated by the transfer of pure n-states and coherent states. The numerical analysis of the situation allows us to determine which parameters give adiabatic transfer and the magnitude and character of the corrections. The method is related to earlier work and possible extensions are discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

A simple scheme for the generation of a class of maximally entangled two-mode field states is presented. Our proposal provides the possibility of manipulating the quantum coherence between the superposed states, simply varying an experimentally easily controllable parameter. Abstract

The possibility of using squeezed states for improving the shot-noise limit of the strain sensitivity of Michelson interferometers is discussed. We find that the spectrum of squeezing required depends on the method of stabilization used in the experiment. Details are given for the widely used phase-modulation technique (which also allows for recycling of the field), where we find an important application for broadband (‘two-mode’) squeezing.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper a two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model interacting with a Kerr-like medium is studied. It is assumed that the electromagnetic field is in different states such as coherent, squeezed vacuum and pair coherent, and that the atom is initially in the excited state. The temporal evolution of the population of the excited level, and the second-order coherence function are studied. The results obtained show that this system has some similarities with the two-mode Stark system. Two photon entanglement are analysed at different initial conditions.  相似文献

Abstract

It is shown that the deflection of an atom de Broglie wave at two adjacent cavities containing non-resonant weak fields can yield a highly entangled quantum state of the atom–field system in which discernible atomic beams are entangled to internal states of the atom and to two-mode photon-number states of the fields. Two-mode anticorrelated entangled photon-number states characterized by the total photon number can be prepared by the detection of the atom in given directions of the propagation.  相似文献

The entanglement between Gaussian entangled states can be increased by non-Gaussian operations. We design a new scheme, named coherent photon addition, which can coherently add one photon generated by a spontaneous parametric down-conversation process to Gaussian quadrature-entangled light pulses created by a non-degenerate optical parametric amplifier. This operation can increase the entanglement of input two-mode Gaussian states as an entanglement distillation, and provides us with a new method of non-Gaussian operation. This scheme can also help us to study the decoherence of adding one- to two-mode Gaussian states from coherent photon addition to normal photon addition.  相似文献

Abstract

We investigate quantum phase properties of two-mode optical fields whose quasidistributions have Gaussian form. We show how to simplify the calculation of the joint phase distribution defined via radial integration of the quasidistribution related to s-ordering of the field operators. We find an analytical formula for the joint phase distribution when coherent components of both modes vanish. The general results are applied to analysis of quantum phase properties of the two-mode Stokes-anti-Stokes field generated by means of Raman scattering with a broad reservoir phonon system and strong coherent laser pumping.  相似文献

We investigate some of the basic features of the interaction of superpositions of coherent states of light with two-level atoms in the framework of the Jaynes-Cummings model. We compare the behaviour of the system in the case of having a coherent superposition state and a statistical mixture of coherent states as an initial field. We investigate the collapses and revivals of the atomic inversion by studying the evolution of the Q function of the cavity field. We also establish the connection between the purity of the field and the collapses and revivals of the atomic inversion.  相似文献

Abstract

We present a detailed discussion of even and odd coherent states defined as eigenstates of the single mode two-photon annihilation operator a 2. We study the non-classical properties such as squeezing, higher-order squeezing, and photon antibunching. Also discussed are the various quantum quasiprobability distributions, namely the P function, which is shown to be highly singular, the Q function, and the Wigner, which can take on negative values for these states. Finally, we present a discussion of a possible mechanism for the generation of such states based on the competition between parametric amplification and the incoherent losses from two-photon resonant absorption.  相似文献
