A rectangular negative branch off-axis hybrid resonator was coupled to a 10 kW class chemical oxygen-iodine laser. Resonator setup and alignment turned out to be straightforward. The extracted power was 6.6 kW and reached approximately 70% of the power for an optimized stable resonator. The divergence of the emitted laser beam in the unstable direction was lower than two times the diffraction limit. Experimentally measured margins for mirror misalignment were found in close agreement with numerical calculations.  相似文献

A laser resonator containing two regions of tight intracavity focus and incorporating off-axis elements (Brewster angled cell or crystal, and off-axis focusing mirrors) has been investigated using a system matrix approach and computer analysis. Conditions for achieving maximum overlap of the stability regions for tangential and sagittal planes have been explored. The compensation condition due to Kogelnik et al., derived originally for the three-mirror laser resonator with only a single region of intracavity focus, is discussed in relation to the present arrangement with two focal regions. Cavities with two intracavity focal regions are important in lasers incorporating non-linear elements (for example, second harmonic converters).  相似文献

Unusual transverse patterns were observed in a cw-lamp-pumped Nd:YAG laser near the boundaries of the stability zones of the laser resonator. An interpretation of these patterns is given in terms of off-axis modes, which can be excited owing to spherical aberrations and astigmatism of the thermal lens and thermally induced birefringence. Additional evidence of the off-axis character of the observed modes was obtained by analysis of the temporal behavior of the observed patterns.  相似文献

In extension to known concepts of wavelength-multiplexing diode laser arrays, a new external cavity is presented. The setup simultaneously improves the beam quality of each single emitter of a standard 25 emitter broad-area stripe laser bar and spectrally superimposes the 25 beams into one. By using this external resonator in an "off-axis" arrangement, beam qualities of Mslow2<14 and Mfast2<3 with optical powers in excess of 10 W in cw operation are obtained.  相似文献

The application of an off-axis negative-branch unstable resonator to an active medium of rectangular geometry is examined. The presented unstable resonator consists of spherical mirrors and a scraper mirror. The adaptation to the rectangular cross section is performed by the scraper, which takes two different shapes. One shape resembles a rectangular bracket "[" and the other resembles the letter "L." The [ and L configurations correspond to a shift of the optical axis away from the center of the cross section, toward one of the edges or toward one of the corners, respectively. Both scraper setups are examined numerically and experimentally. Experiments are performed with a multikilowatt class chemical oxygen iodine laser. The active medium is characterized by a low amplification coefficient. Measured results of the intensity distribution in the far field and of the phase distribution in the near field are shown for both resonator configurations. Using the same resonator magnification, the setup with the L-shaped scraper has a lower output coupling and, therefore, a higher output power and a slightly higher beam divergence. The L-shaped scraper configuration is able to cover the gain medium completely.  相似文献

We describe a combined computer simulation and experimental investigation of the intracavity spatial beam profile characteristics of a planar-waveguide rf-excited CO(2) laser that incorporates a hybrid waveguide confocal unstable negative-branch resonator. The study includes results for the intracavity lateral beam intensity profile and output power of the laser as a function of resonator mirror misalignment. In addition, the behavior of the unstable resonator, observed experimentally and predicted by the simulation, in generating localized high intensity hot-spots when it is subjected to relatively large misalignment angles is reported.  相似文献

A research program involving two applications of tunable infrared laser differential absorption spectroscopy (TILDAS) with multipass, long-path absorption cells to the detection of explosives contamination in soils is reported. In the first application, sensitive, specific real-time species concentration measurements by TILDAS have led to new understanding of the processes involved in explosives detection by the heating of contaminated soils and the quantification of the resulting pyrolysis gases. In the second, we present results of our calculations of the properties of astigmatic off-axis resonator absorption cells, which show that useful TILDAS path lengths can be achieved inside a cone penetrometer probe.  相似文献

Eikonal analyses are applied to a hybrid micro/macro-optical shuffle interconnection approach that minimizes distortion in a multichip smart-pixel shuffle interconnection system. The optical system uses off-axis imaging elements to link clusters of dense arrays of vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) sources to matching clusters within arrays of detectors. A critical requirement for such a system is that the images of the two-dimensional arrays of the VCSELs must be registered on their associated detector arrays with a precision of the order of 10 microm across the entire multichip array. The hybrid approach exploits the typical narrow-beam cone angles of VCSELs by use of beam-deflecting micro-optics to create a distortion-canceling symmetry about a central aperture in the optical system for each VCSEL-detector link. The second- and third-order aberrations of the plane-symmetric system created by the global off-axis imaging system are analyzed. The results prove that the hybrid concept cancels distortion and minimizes the spot size at the detector array plane.  相似文献

Abstract

Diaphragmed resonators have been widely studied in the axially symmetric case. Here we present some experimental and theoretical results concerning the field distribution of an off-axis apertured laser. Measurements have been made with a commercial Argon laser based on a plano-concave cavity and operating at 488 nm. Calculations have been carried out using and extending a method presented previously for a symmetric resonator. Numerical results are given for the field distributions inside and outside the laser, the round-trip loss for the amplitude and the round-trip phase shift for various transverse misadjustments of the aperture. We find the asymmetric field distribution of the fundamental mode in both experimental and theoretical aspects.  相似文献

We have studied a laser system with quick electronic tuning of the spectrum shape and continuous distribution. The proposed method is based on separate control of phase and amplitude spatial distributions of resonator transmittance. Evolution of the spectral function of the diffractively coupled dispersive resonators and the model for the formation of the resonator with the spectral function given by its moments are studied theoretically. The synthesis of continuous spectra is investigated experimentally in the laser with a novel control element including a spatial acousto-optic modulator and a tunable lens telescope.  相似文献

We demonstrate a high-power laser diode stacks double-end-pumped Nd:YVO4 1064 nm slab laser with a folded stable-unstable hybrid resonator. An output power of 220 W was obtained at the pump power of 490 W with optical conversion efficiency of 44.9%. At the output power of 202 W, the M2 factors in the unstable direction and in the stable direction were 1.7 and 2.3, respectively.  相似文献

Hybrid laser – metal active gas (MAG) arc welding is an emerging joining technology that is very promising for shipbuilding applications. This technique combines the synergistic qualities of the laser and MAG arc welding techniques, which permits a high energy density process with fit-up gap tolerance. As the heat input of hybrid laser – arc welding (HLAW) is greater than in laser welding, but much smaller than in MAG arc welding, a relatively narrow weld and restricted heat affected zone (HAZ) is obtained, which can minimize the residual stress and distortion. Furthermore, adding MAG arc can increase the penetration depth for a given laser power, which can translate to faster welding speeds or fewer number of passes necessary for one-sided welding of thick plates. In this work, a new hybrid fiber laser – arc welding system was successfully applied to fully penetrate 9.3 mm thick butt joints using a single-pass process through optimization of the groove shape, size and processing parameters.  相似文献

A two-beam chirped-pulse-amplification Nd:glass laser system dedicated to x-ray laser research is described. Each beam provides an output energy of 20 J with a typical pulse duration of 1.3 ps. A prepulse of variable duration is generated by use of a novel, to our knowledge, optical system. A reflection optical system, comprised of an off-axis parabolic mirror and a spherical mirror, produces a line focus with 6-mm length and 165-microm width without chromatic aberration. By use of this pumping laser system, the nickel-like silver x-ray laser at a wavelength of 13.9 nm has been demonstrated.  相似文献

We demonstrate the use of both 510.6- and 578.2-nm components and the extension of the tuning range of a Rhodamine 6G dye laser in a novel coupled resonator scheme. Rhodamine 6G is pumped by 510.6-nm light in one resonator and Sulforhodamine B is pumped by 578.2 nm in the other. The spectral tuning range of 564-609 nm of the Rhodamine 6G laser is extended up to 640 nm. A two-mirror arrangement ensures continuous tuning across the spectral ranges of the two dyes by rotation of a single plane mirror.

Waveguide gas lasers (CO(2) ones especially) continue to be widely used. We have previously studied simple resonator designs with plane mirrors close to each end of the waveguide. Here we examine theoretical predictions concerning hybrid waveguide/free-space resonators with square-bore guides and curved mirrors. We show how resonator mode losses vary as functions of guide length and width, guide-to-mirror distance, mirror radius of curvature, and mirror tilt. We have tested a 7-W cw rf-excited CO(2) laser with unusually good near-TEM(00) transverse-mode quality; it is one of many promising resonator geometries not covered by earlier published research. The common case 3 reflector, sometimes viewed as guaranteeing near-TEM(00) mode performance, is shown to be alarmingly sensitive to small misalignments for certain guide geometries.  相似文献

This study demonstrates successive higher-order Hermite-Gaussian (HG(0,m)) mode operations in a microchip solid-state laser with a controlled off-axis laser diode (LD) pumping and generation of the corresponding doughnutlike laser beam of tunable ring diameter and orbital angular momentum, by experimentally focusing a Hermite-Gaussian mode (HGM) lasing beam into an astigmatic mode converter (AMC) with a mode-matching lens. Based on the successful generation of stable doughnutlike vortex beams by combining the LD off-axis pumping of microchip lasers and an AMC, this study proposes a design for a compact, solid doughnutlike vortex laser beam generator that combines three elements (i.e., laser cavity, mode-matching lens, and AMC) into one practical device. The desired doughnutlike vortex beam with different orbital angular momentum is easily generated by simply controlling the lateral off-axis pump position and pump beam shape on the laser crystal by numerical simulation.  相似文献

Using a ray matrix method, we analyze theoretically how the r and theta polarizations affect the resonator stability condition of two laser heads with or without thermal birefringence compensation. The resonator stability condition is analyzed graphically for a plane-parallel and a concave-concave resonator. The maximum range of stable region is found for both the short and the long cavity. The characteristics of the laser output power are confirmed experimentally in association with the resonator stability condition. The laser output power of 776 W is obtained with the optical-to-optical efficiency of 45% for a plane-parallel resonator with a short crystal separation.  相似文献

A sandwich-type laser device with a surface-relief grating inside was infiltrated with dye-doped nematic liquid-crystals which functioned as gain media. The surface-relief grating was fabricated by soft lithographic technique on a sol-gel derived zirconium-doped hybrid film using a polydimethyl-siloxane replica. The optical properties of the distributed feedback (DFB) resonator were modified by introducing a high refractive index layer consisting of niobium pentoxide subsequently. Thermal induced shift of amplified spontaneous emission spectrum, switching of multi-wavelength DFB laser emission and occurrence of random lasing were demonstrated.  相似文献
