Design knowledge extraction from scenario-based databases using associative search engine for FR-induced decisions

The authors set the functional requirement of “reduce your own risk” and ran sessions of associative search to extract useful knowledge from databases. Ninety engineers found the most analogous knowledge using the associative search engine “GETA/IMAGINE” on scenario-based databases “Failure Knowledge Database” and “100 Scenarios of Failure.” Above 60% of their risk concern cases successfully reached the most analogous accident cases or failure scenarios from either database in about 10 min. Associative search can aid the designer in selecting design solutions for the functional domain.

Novel design approach for the creation of 3D geometrical model of personalized bone scaffold

Bone scaffolds provide a structural support for tissue development. Existing bone scaffolds are mainly characterized by complex porous designs whose shortcomings are a low level of permeability for growing tissue, and a difficult design customization. Scaffolds with nucleuses (rods or lattices) as basic elements should improve bone regeneration and enable higher design flexibility. In this paper, we present two new methods for building 3D geometrical models of personalized scaffolds, which are based on method of anatomical features. Methods are demonstrated in the case of scaffold for the mandible bone. This approach greatly reduces the designer effort and time, while enabling easy personalization of scaffolds’ shape and geometry.

A Hierarchical Co-Evolutionary Approach to Conceptual Design

Conceptual design is a key early activity of product development. Limited understanding of conceptual design process and lack of quantitative information at this stage of design pose difficulties on effective support for concept generation and evaluation. In this paper, a hierarchical co-evolutionary approach is proposed to support conceptual design. In this approach, higher-level functions are decomposed based on a set of grammar rules, and mappings between functions and their solutions, or means, are realized through a co-evolutionary computing process. The paper describes the details of the approach. An example of designing a mechanical personal transporter is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.     

Incorporating Lifecycle Considerations in Axiomatic Design

At the outset of designing a new product, knowledge about the product is limited, but the designer has a considerable amount of design freedom. Considering the environmental implications of a product design early in the design phase is a crucial step in achieving an environmentally efficient product. By applying the axiomatic approach to a product's design, the designer can ensure that the final embodiment of the product or service satisfies the obligatory and necessary set of functional requirements and constraints, including environmental issues. In this paper we show how the integration of environmental considerations early in the process of axiomatic design can lead to the development of an environmental-friendly product or service. The paper demonstrates an artificial case study of designing a modern manufacturing system. A major issue investigated in this work is the possibility of assessing environmental performance (or environmental-related information) already in the preliminary stages of the design process. An upper bound for the probability of a product failing to satisfy environmental requirements is introduced. In addition, the suitability of lifecycle analysis to the assessment of products during the process of axiomatic design is discussed.     

Knowledge Structuring for Function Design

Well-structured functional knowledge Is essential to conduct function design as stated by well-known design methods, Including Suh's axiomatic design approach and one of Pahl and Beltz. Innovative design is a consequence of combining different types of knowledge sources, and obviously requires well-structured functional knowledge. The paper focuses on Suh's axiomatic design approach. Through a design example, the paper shows that his first axiom (functional Independence axiom) depends on such well-structured knowledge. This confirms that good design results not from functional Independence of functional requirements but from such well-structured functional knowledge.

移位暂存法在复杂程序电控系统设计中的应用

复杂程序单稳态电控系统由于输入信号、约束和联锁条件多等原因,造成设计过程中对设计者的依赖性强、干扰信号的判断与消除困难等问题。移位暂存法无需设计者进行干扰信号的判断与消除,通过合理分级,结合级数、信号元件、时序三者的关系图即可实现复杂单稳态电控系统的设计。仿真和实验结果表明：该方法设计效率高,设计的电气回路结构简单而且具有故障诊断和排除简单、直观等优点,同时可降低设计成本,提高经济性和实用性。     

镁合金管材热挤压模AutoCAD参数化设计系统研究与开发

利用AutoCAD为开发平台，以其内嵌的VBA为开发工具，采用ACCESS及SQL Server建立数据库及作为数据库管理工具，建立了结合数据库的镁合金挤压管材模具参数化设计系统。利用本设计系统可方便地实现设计参数的选择及输入，快速地计算和输出图纸，明显地提高设计效率。
